I like 7's intro more cause the bombing mission is such a nice and tight sequence, but 9 from intro to flying out of the city into the forest is an insanely good intro too. So many POVs, different things going all that all interconnect during the heist

there is so much happening at the beginning but zero stakes are laid out
even as a kid it was jarring to see that much plot movement without consequence or importance. I think tonally it needed something because by the time the ship crashes and basically the game starts for real, I'm wondering why I should even care.
The play is insanely kino, especially with the fake fight. Very creative minds at work here. And vivis journey to watch it was very fun

You missed the staff with the spells sold in the monastery, its the only item that had them i think. I did the same thing, it still turned out fine even without. Its final fantasy not smt so not exactly the hardest thing, but it does kind of suck as one of the biggest appeal in ff is seeing how strong you can make a character
It's okay, I found a synth with flare and vivi is doing 9999 every turn. My party is Zidane, Freya vivi and dagger, it's honestly terrible but I picked the characters I liked and the game isn't that hard

And that's why he stopped experimenting after just one bad result. The only reason 2 has a reputation for being experimental is because it never resulted in any quality staple of the genre. When it first came out, the ATB in FF4 was also experimental but people loved it so much that it's continued to be used and now we take it for granted. This was Ito's idea, one of the actual geniuses Square has who Sakaguchi rides on the success of. Also, Sakaguchi did Spirits Within further proving how mediocre he is.
Yeah Lindblum > Cleyra is much more challenging than most the game since you don't have access to either of the healers. The other party is ultimately lackluster since no combo sword arts and I think the equipment distribution is pretty lackluster
