>i got filtered at the tutorial
You almost sound proud of being a massive pleb. Using a snowball fight as a tutorial to teach the basics of tactics combat is kino
>not immediately friendly firing the cripple frick until he actually "dies" in the snowball fight
You can't do that, there's not enough turns and crits still only deal 1 damage. Please seek help immediately.
You absolutely can get him down to "0 hp", but the cutscene of the kid saying "hey, no running away" starts playing immediately instead of him having a defeated animation or something.
I get a strong urge to play this again a couple times a month, but then I remember the horrible optimization autism, there are just so many layers to it
Randomly picking FFTA in the store on the rare occasion that my mom would buy me a new game was probably the luckiest I'll ever get.
I tried the Tactics Ogre remaster on PC but couldn't get into it. Partly because the gameplay doesn't feel like something I should have in front of a computer for. But 2bh if I were to play FFTA for the first time today, I'd probably drop it because of the laws.
What sucks is there's no decent way to sink hours into Tactics Ogre in handheld format >Handheld PCs like Steam Deck - All 2-3hr battery life >Switch - 3hr battery life
Stuck having to recharge the things so many times just to do one playthrough.
I should get into the original Tactics at some point but I was always unclear on what version to play because I heard conflicting account.
Does the PSP version have some problems or is that a good choice? I'd choose that one mostly for ease of emulation.
You can't really go wrong, as far as I know. I played the original, and it was great. People mostly say that WOTL (the PSP one) is even better, and I believe that's probably true. I know WOTL has more content, and a different translation (which people loved at launch but is sort of divisive now).
This is going to be kind of a silly question and I don't know if you're familiar but what translation sounds more like the FFT quotes in the ivalice raid in XIV?
That raid alone, and specifically the shit Cidolfus says, made me want to play the original to know more about it and if I can get the translation that inspired that I'd be very happy.
The main difference, afaik, is WOTL has everyone speaking in sort of an olde timey way that might be appropriate for a medieval setting, and the original didn't bother with that. Anything in XIV is probably more like WOTL.
If you're emulating, play the PSP version. A lot of what made it suck was the loading for spell animations, the game would hang while it was reading off the UMD and you'd be waiting 10+ seconds for a spell to go off. 84J5G
>have to remove the fricking slowdown when casting skills >have to add quotes back in
Frick off Black person, at that point just add cutscenes from psp to psx and it's way easier/better
>He needs a belt. >>What does he keep on his belt, sir? >A ladybug. >>What? >And hang another belt from his belt >>What the frick >And wrap a gigantic bag from that secondary belt >>Dare I ask nani the hell is in the bag? >The book of grudges!
its a promotion picture that accompanied all the loot and items the game has, hes supposed to be overloaded you never actually get depicted like this ingame.
The ol' glass pizzacutter blade that would probably shatter from a single swing and hurt the hell out of your hand because of its poor grip and lack of guard against recoil.
FFTA2s story and characters are generally worse than 1, but everything else is significantly better.
Theres just loads more content, the mechanics are much more polished, more jobs etc.
A2 was way better in terms of UI, gameplay, mechanics, endgame but man I remember the story and main character being total dogshit and the recurring missions were unnecessary. I couldn't beat the last challenge tower for some reason either.
>THE RULES ARE NO COUNTERS
...Excuse me Judge, half my team has counter as a passive and I cant chang.... >NO COUNTERS
*Enemy attacks*
*I counter* >RED CARD
Were the rules random? I remember there were at least a few times where a banned thing made it impossible to complete a scenario without someone going to jail.
there was a list of laws in FFT that would change every day, if you didn't like a ruleset you'd walk around a couple of days and it'd be different laws
However in FFTA rules were handpicked for each battle and it showed, sometimes you'd get bullshit such as "no dodging" on a fight with a bunch of morons that only did low accuracy moves
I like FFTA, but I don't see how you could like it more than FFT if you've played them both. FFTA is more forgiving and polite with your time, but I don't think that strictly makes the game better. You do see some discussions about FFTA's story (particularly the commentary on escapism) even after 20 years, but I don't think it's as interesting as FFT.
>sell useless item from a random side quest early on >it's required to complete another side quest much later >can't complete every single side quest to unlock the last special character
Two decades later and I'm still mad.
I played the game as a kid and liked it.
I tried playing the game as an adult and hated it.
I now prefer just to listen to the radio drama once every year or two to revisit the story, and that's good enough for me.
Same. I don't know why, I loved it as a kid. I thought the job system was cool, and I liked finding the secret party members like Cid and Ritz. Didn't know there was a drama CD, maybe I'll have a listen.
>love the law system >love FFTA1 >love FFTA2 >love the addition of races and new classes >loved how fast gameplay was compared to psp and its remakes >loved the soundtrack >loved the art
ffta remake when, maybe add co-op tower or multi
I never looked up guides but I remember I always had two Dragoons a sniper or gunner MC a light and dark mage and then the card guy when you get him later. I dont think i completed the challenge tower and got filtered by stinky breath spam on the last tower. Theres probably autistically perfect synergy with this game that I made a total mockery of, id change peoples jobs drastically halfway and had no idea how stats worked.
>id change peoples jobs drastically halfway and had no idea how stats worked
Game's beatable without caring, but stat growths are tied to classes and speed capping breaks the game
I wish the ff14 mmo had nu-mou, bangaa and moogle (new design) as playable races, but instead we just got shitty variations of humans. I just wanna play an annoying little moogle gunner shithead man
>MMO wasn't set in this Ivalice
fricking sucks mang, you can tell the XIV team would've done something like it with how much they wank off Matsuno stuff too.
The funny thing is that grinding for that dagger is the only way you can get to access steal:weapon ability. To get steal weapon you need a knife that teach steal weapon which can only be obtain by either stealing (which you can't due to lacking the ability) or lucky drop
Yeah everytime I do it I think there's another way but you really have to do that shit before actually playing the game properly. Then there's all the stuff about rolling with a 5 member clan to recruit job/race combos that give higher base stats and stuff but they can't use any weapons early on so you have to change them back etc
still kino though
A bunch of things, off the top of my head: >OG uses a more rudimentary and down to earth translation (LITTLE MONEY) while WotL goes for a loftier Shakespearean script >WotL removes spell incantations >new classes added (Onion Knight, Dark Knight) >multiplayer support
I remember FFTA2 had these post game tournament quests that were totally unbeatable because the enemy would take 2-3 turns each unit before you even got to move once and it resulted in struggling to fight back with half your party dead and the other half maimed. Wonder if there was some gimmick I missed.
post game tournaments? im drawing a blank. when in doubt, you could always bring one or two seeq hunters with reverse item and instakill things with elixers
IIRC they were trivial if you just took your units and slapped dual wield on them.
Nah, the tournament is real easy once you get some gears and skills. The enemies AI is really dumb and they prioritize debuffing and buff first. Debuff can be deal with by a healer while buff can be dispel. Or equip your frontline with counter to punish them. Really the only 2 hard quests are the fight with 5 level 99 bosses and the Moggle Fight ( you have to escort the Moggles with less unit and the Moggle classes suck)
It's been possibly a decade since I last played it but I recall there being a summoner or some other caster with aoe nukes and they would just wreck my party because they moved twice before I moved a single character unless I specifically used ninjas/assassins in which case they still got one turn which was plenty to sweep me. I have a craving to replay it now.

i remember having a tough time with the antlion boss in the early game on hard difficulty, since its chomp can pretty much ohko a unit, and i think the little antlions spawn consistently
so i cheesed it with reverse items. but that was the only one i ever cheesed
Great game
great setting
people are just mad it isnt FFTs medieval super serious story, which is inferior to tactics Ogre anyway.
That or theyre mad that Marche wouldnt let them have their isekai adventure.
I emulated this once, saw a bunch of 6 year olds having a snowball fight, and then promptly shut it off. What a decline from PSX FFT.
goys, its not 2000s anymore. you can stop playing shit games feelsgoodman
>goys
>shit games
filtered
Shit games do filter me indeed. I had the same reaction when I played Diablo 3 for the first time.
It's a shit game with a shit story. Which is a damn shame considering FFT probably has the best story in the entire franchise minus Endwalker.
>minus Endwalker.
pfffffffffffffffffff aAEHuhaEhuaEhuAEhueahua
>i got filtered at the tutorial
You almost sound proud of being a massive pleb. Using a snowball fight as a tutorial to teach the basics of tactics combat is kino
I was expecting a sequel to tactics not a Saturday morning cartoon. You wouldn't understand if you had beaten tactics beforehand.
hadn't beaten* I meant
>game cover has school children reading a book
>WTF WHY IS THERE SCHOOL CHILDREN IN MUH RPG?!!!
>not immediately friendly firing the cripple frick until he actually "dies" in the snowball fight
Do you even fun?
lel I thought it was just me
>not immediately friendly firing the cripple frick until he actually "dies" in the snowball fight

Holy mother of filtered.
Crazy how so many people just quit on tutorials. What can devs even do for this kind of mentally ill people?
Let people skip them?
>quitting a game because it has a tutorial
low iq post holy shit
Agreed
Ogre Battle 64 > Ogre Battle > FFTA > FFT
>64
weak bait
I agree in a way, most tactics ogre and FFT suck.
true and based, best thread of the past decade and Frimelda is my wife
But Frimelda is an A2 character
She's a recurring character in A2.
in FFA you can recruit her in a special mission in the late game.
Oh, sweet. I always wanted to see more of best girl
ive never played psx fft and i never will because the people who like it are insanely fricking gay about it without fail
Anything with Final Fantasy in the title is bad.
I get a strong urge to play this again a couple times a month, but then I remember the horrible optimization autism, there are just so many layers to it
Play one of the hacked versions.
It fixes the balance and even adds a Hard mode.
I played the absolute frick out of this game many years ago on my GBA and then on my PC. Probably around 1000 hours. Its in my top 10 for sure
I loved ffta. It deserves a remaster
No it doesn't.
I love FFTA and FFTA2. We don't need a remaster nor a collection, we need a FFTA3.
>Kupo!

Randomly picking FFTA in the store on the rare occasion that my mom would buy me a new game was probably the luckiest I'll ever get.

I never really found the laws to be even remotely an issue
What sucks is there's no decent way to sink hours into Tactics Ogre in handheld format
>Handheld PCs like Steam Deck - All 2-3hr battery life
>Switch - 3hr battery life
Stuck having to recharge the things so many times just to do one playthrough.
The Switch is closer to 5 hours. About the same as PSP.
Tactics Ogre > Final Fantasy Tactics
The balance is really all over the place in the most nonsensical way, but I really like the game
>2 best girls are mutually exclusive
>Stupid CF system
Destroying the mothercrystals in FF16 gave me FFTA vibes
I should get into the original Tactics at some point but I was always unclear on what version to play because I heard conflicting account.
Does the PSP version have some problems or is that a good choice? I'd choose that one mostly for ease of emulation.
PSP with the slowdown fix, or Android version if that's even for sale still.
You can't really go wrong, as far as I know. I played the original, and it was great. People mostly say that WOTL (the PSP one) is even better, and I believe that's probably true. I know WOTL has more content, and a different translation (which people loved at launch but is sort of divisive now).

You want WOTL
The main difference, afaik, is WOTL has everyone speaking in sort of an olde timey way that might be appropriate for a medieval setting, and the original didn't bother with that. Anything in XIV is probably more like WOTL.
Good to know, thanks, I love that old timey feel a lot, it's the one thing I really like about FFXIV english localization (despite everything else).
WotL has the best dialogue of any game in existence. That and the new cutscenes took an already amazing game and turned the soul up to 11.
If you're emulating, play the PSP version. A lot of what made it suck was the loading for spell animations, the game would hang while it was reading off the UMD and you'd be waiting 10+ seconds for a spell to go off. 84J5G
frick EVERY homosexual recommending the psp version which doesnt have the kino quotes when casting spells.
Congrats moron have some spoon feeding, you can reactivate spell quotes with Valhalla
https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/1478/
>have to remove the fricking slowdown when casting skills
>have to add quotes back in
Frick off Black person, at that point just add cutscenes from psp to psx and it's way easier/better
No
>NOOOO THE GAME IS SHIT BECAUSE IT FORCES ME TO TRY NEW THINGS WAAAAAA
Second best FF title ever and period, the best is FFTA2.
You like homosexual MC with his homosexual personality?
The has to be one of the worst looking characters I have ever see.
>He needs a belt.
>>What does he keep on his belt, sir?
>A ladybug.
>>What?
>And hang another belt from his belt
>>What the frick
>And wrap a gigantic bag from that secondary belt
>>Dare I ask nani the hell is in the bag?
>The book of grudges!
its a promotion picture that accompanied all the loot and items the game has, hes supposed to be overloaded you never actually get depicted like this ingame.
Yeah, the MC looks like fricking shit
Thanfully, the only thing you will see throughout the game is his face
The ol' glass pizzacutter blade that would probably shatter from a single swing and hurt the hell out of your hand because of its poor grip and lack of guard against recoil.
The worst part about the pizzacutter?
It's not in the game
FFTA2s story and characters are generally worse than 1, but everything else is significantly better.
Theres just loads more content, the mechanics are much more polished, more jobs etc.
I like FFTA2 stories, it just the story of a kid chilling with his new friends.
A2 was way better in terms of UI, gameplay, mechanics, endgame but man I remember the story and main character being total dogshit and the recurring missions were unnecessary. I couldn't beat the last challenge tower for some reason either.
>yes the game was better but the story man
To this date I still don't know what Metroid is about.
>everything about the gameplay was better
>but the story though
So no one who likes games cares, in other words? Glad you agree.
Story isn't the most important thing but it's not irrelevant either, especially in an RPG.
The mainstory was really bland, but the sidestories were way better.
>THE RULES ARE NO COUNTERS
...Excuse me Judge, half my team has counter as a passive and I cant chang....

FFTA had the rotating laws, I think maybe it was FFTA2 that had the non-rotating ones.
You can unequip the skills during preparation but its still annoying.
If its not fun to play, why bother? Just read the walkthrough or use cheats or mods to fix the game.
2000s Square was so good, we didn't know what we had
>sell useless item from a random side quest early on
>it's required to complete another side quest much later
>can't complete every single side quest to unlock the last special character
Two decades later and I'm still mad.
Never sell that shit senpai.

They don't want to go through the trouble of editing the gear to match a different bodytype.
>MMO wasn't set in this Ivalice
fricking sucks mang, you can tell the XIV team would've done something like it with how much they wank off Matsuno stuff too.
That game had terrible speed balance and you suffered it naturally by having a viera in the team.
>missables out of the ass
>need to grind negotiations at start for that dagger

And FFTA2: GotR is even better.
I remember playing the frick out of this game on my gba sp back in the day, this and metroid fusion
Man I miss those comfy times so much
Never played any of the FFT games. Should I play the original, PSP remake or Advance first?
Original if you want original
PSP if you want medieval retranslation
Advanced / 2 if you want isekai wants to go home
patched psp version is the best
advance is kind of it's own thing
Android version is best currently.
My wife Adelle!
sharing fanart i did a little while back
love all the fft games, but the gameboy ones hold a special place in my heart
You should do one where they're all eating pizza together and the main guy has melty mozarella cheese dripping off his sword
That's cute, reminds me of my own time with A2 back in the day. I really liked going from town to town and owning all of Ivalice through auctions.
what's the difference between OG FFT and FFT WoTL?
https://finalfantasy.fandom.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_Tactics_version_differences
TLDR WoTL is better, with fan patches
A bunch of things, off the top of my head:
>OG uses a more rudimentary and down to earth translation (LITTLE MONEY) while WotL goes for a loftier Shakespearean script
>WotL removes spell incantations
>new classes added (Onion Knight, Dark Knight)
>multiplayer support
