Aerith is also technically the mandatory date purely based on game design and not alot of people realise it. Half of Aeriths affinity boosting dialogue choices are tied to the main story. Kalm, Gongaga, Cosmo Canyon. So if you are
just doing the main story without doing any affinity boosting sidequests you will get Aerith mandatory. Every other party members affinity scenes (with exception of Tifa in Junon) are optional
and you have to go out of your way to find them. Aerith route is canon in almost every way in game and this is not factoring in interviews, the credits, and the trophy icon lol.

You can get Yuffie as the date in Chapter 8, you just have to tank both Aerith/Tifa’s affection levels and pick all of Yuffies top answers to put her above Red/Barret
So basically you can't accidentaly get Yuffie's date you have to go out of your way and plan to get it. And that requires making 0 point answers for every party member for the first 6 chapters without yuffie.
There is so much evidence to support Aerith’s GS route as canon that it is insane that there are people who still try to debate on which date is canon. Not to mention Aerith is default Rosa in 4/6 routes and the NPTK scene just makes more sense on Aeriths date as she is singing a love song to him alone with no other person present beside him. Cloud on the side staring at her in awe and them smiling at each other just makes more narrative sense.

The story of Loveless only works with Aerith. Everything it talks about relates to Ch14 Cloud vs Sephiroth to save her, fate ensuring Aerith dies, fate being defied, and Cloud needing to part ways with Aerith while making no promise to return to each other after Sephiroth is stopped because they know it will happen. Aerith stays behind in a burning building, which further symbolizes her ongoing connection to phoenix. The entirety of Loveless played out in chapter 14, and even has the same ending where both temporarily part ways followed by NPTK playing. And of course the name Loveless is a direct reference to the street they met on.

Meanwhile Cloud or Yuffie can decimate anything in the game by the time Aerith is able to set up her first ward. Absolute trash tier character

I'm not. That's part of what made up the identity of FF. Series turned noticably shittier the more it took itself seriously, which started from 12 and got progressively worse as the games went on
idk man it's been a while since I've played the original FF7 but I remember it being a bit grittier than what they've covered so far in the remakes. Obviously there was goofy shit mixed in too but that's just it - the goofy shit was secondary and a temporary respite from the drama while the general atmosphere was more consistent with the world/story they were crafting

Does anybody know how to make Aerith viable in combat? I feel like she's extremely weak, underpowered and irrelevant compared to literally everyone else. She didn't feel this weak in Remake but on Rebirth she's unusable. She builds ATB so fricking slow and then casts magic so slow too. Some people say to give her the Speed Materia or Genji gloves but dude... Those items are better on everyone else than her. She is fricking trash. You don't even need her to target weaknesses because Yuffie does that for free and you could put 2 Elementals on Cloud and literally have weaknesses to all the elements at the same time from just normal attacks for free. Barret and Tifa build ATB so fricking fast they can always heal for free with Pray. Meanwhile Aerith can't do shit. By the time she can do her first Magic attack I already beat the boss with Cloud and Tifa.
Be careful, there's so Aerith apologists around here that will say you're just a noob but Aerith is just a shit tier character, end of story
The short answer is you don't
The long answer is she's useful for a cheese strat around building ATB instantly and rapidly filling the limit gauge but no one figures that out while just playing the main story.
She needs support. The patented cheese strategy after you get Yuffie is to cast ATB Ward and have Yuffie just spam her Brumal Form over and over which will fill up Aerith's ATB to max in 5 seconds. Then you switch over, cast Arcade Ward, then cast magic. Aerith w/ Genji Glove sapmming -aga spells while Yuffie just keeps spamming on the ATB Ward is the way to cheese every single hard simulator battle.
Tifa spamming Unfettered Fury or Unbridled Strength over and over with ATB Assist (then getting the ATB back by using the strongest triangle attack) is also a good strategy before you get Yuffie or she's unavailable

Side quest in Gongaga has Cloud asking Aerith if the flowers finally learned to talk to her (reference to a missable scene from chapter 8), Side quest in Cosmo Canyon has Cloud feeling uneasy because he's remembering the way Aerith prayed during her resolution in chapter 14 of Remake (confirmed by quest description), and at one point Aerith mentions something like "Remember all those people we helped back in sector 5" which obviously were all optional side quests.
Rebirth assumes you did all of the sidequests in Remake which would naturally include the missable scenes with Tifa/Aerith from 3 and 8. See: the angel of the slums appearing in Costa Del Sol, you moronic shipgay.
Why would it matter when only Aerith's missable scenes get referenced?
Real answer: It depends on how the confluence actually works. Its possible that all dates are canon because all are timelines that got merged together. At least to Cloud hes living in multiple timelines already, so to him all will be "canon" while to the others we don't know. I think it is a good bet to say the others are from the timeline where Cloud went on the date with Aerith as it makes the most sense to the story. Tifa is able to see multiple timelines however so I'd probably say yes that both are aware they kissed at least in one timeline.
There is no canon/non-canon route when it comes to the side dates.
FF7 was always written around the idea you could be closer to anyone of the characters. Remake/Rebirth simply expand on this (Remake with the Ch.14 Resolutions, Rebirth with the affinity system, Sidequests/Gold Saucer Dates 1 & 2). They are all written and developed in a way to reflect the interactions those characters would have, and only expand on the main plotline, not conflict with it. There's a reason after beating the game you can simply choose who appears in these segments.
Anyone who says otherwise is a miserable shipgay who can't cope.
