XVI had good fundamentals but the man really needs to understand if hes making a game with a literal baby mode the rest of the game can actually require some level of thought, like if XVI had gambits for the rings or just fricking some level of stat/gear customization past the equivalent of a single XIV hotbar people wouldn't have lost their fricking minds over it. Either make whatever they do next feel like an FF in the menus or let the fricking DD/DMC guy actually direct it instead of just making a hyper bloated single character action game
FFXVI is fine in highest difficulty. The problem is to unlock it you need to play the game on lower difficulties TWICE.
VIIR suffers a similar issue, albeit only requires one playthrough, which can be achieved in only a few hours considering 90% of the "game" is comprised of skippable cutscenes. Not sure why anyone bothers though. FF was a mediocre strategy series, now it's a mediocre action series. Who cares? The fantasy adventure and music is all I've ever been in it for. Not sure how or why people see anything else in it, but to each his own I suppose.
I just don't like the hypocrisy of turn-based/ATB gays who like to pretend the old games were big brain to shit on FFXVI being an action title.
FF VIIR's re-imagining of ATB is the way forward with full action being a viable alternative to cycle with. They really should add party members and character switching in the full action though, that really was missing in XVI.
I'm hoping the swapping plays a bigger role in Rebirth. It felt like an optional gimmick in Remake, especially with the (un)balancing of Normal Mode. It was essentially no different from ATB, just mash attack and heal, use the Pokémon-tier weaknesses if you want, it don't matter. None of this matters. Only difference were the upgraded visuals.
Am I the only one who felt like the Limit Breaks and Summons were neutered in Remake? They didn't feel as special as in the original.

Jesus Christ I was so done with materia and the crystarium by chapter six. It was so boring and it never felt clever or like it had any real impact. I ended up just choosing colored materia for aesthetics, same with weapons. I originally was trying to "100%" most stuff on one playthrough, but it didn't seem worth it, and so many weapons look ugly compared to the defaults. Not to mention the disparity between scenes and pre-rendered cutscenes, where Barret might have wrecking ball equipped in a scene where he's firing off rounds, then immediately in a pre-rendered scene he'll have his default equipped.
It felt like I was optional to the game, from dialogues to combat. Should've saved myself the $30 and just watched the movie online. Still questioning if I'll even bother with Rebirth.

You're reading into my comment backwards. I didn't want my currently equipped weapon in any cutscene. Remake features scenes rendered in real-time, which do use your equipment, and also pre-rendered, that don't. I would have preferred consistency, in other words just make all scenes pre-rendered instead of this strange hybrid.

It'll end where disk 1 ended originally. To be fair, having replayed it recently, there were a ton of fmvs and reoccurring assets that filled disk 2, so it makes sense that part 3 will basically be more story driven content structured like ffx, even if they keep the world map of part 2 in it.
Disk 2 is also full of literal filler like the Huge Materia quest. It's just a couple character vignettes strung together by a """plot""" that doesn't go anywhere and everybody forgets about it instantly.
This, the only real story beats on disc 2 are the north crater bit, Cloud's moronic mind being resolved and the weapons attacking

In the Nibelheim flashback Sephiroth explicitly states that the Cetra are a race of people that travel the planet looking for the Promised Land and eventually some of them stopped traveling and decided to settle down. Nowhere does it state that there is a difference between them. As for why most people cannot communicate with the planet it's probably because they eventually lost the ability after generations of not following their ways.
