Because FFVII Remake is a sequel that is the finale to the compilation. Ideally you should play the original, crisis core, ffvii dirge of cerberus, read the 2 books, watch advent children extended cut, the anime ova, and then start FFVII Remake for the finale.
I'm starting with the remake and ending with the remake, FF7 (and FF in general) is complete garbage, I'm just here for the girls and the remake has the best looking versions of them.
The first half hour of the original pretty much blows past the entirety of the remake. Remake has an absolute ton of filler content, like long railways and a dozen hallways.
I'm starting with the remake and ending with the remake, FF7 (and FF in general) is complete garbage, I'm just here for the girls and the remake has the best looking versions of them.
Absolute best advice. Real Final Fantasy fans view Crisis Core and Advent Children as absolute garbage that shouldn't exist. This is why Nomura should have been fired over a decade ago, for flops.
>no true Scotsman
C'mon, seriously? >flops
They didn't flop, though. Flopping generally refers to sales success, and as far as I'm aware they did well enough at that. They both got updated re-releases, though I think DC's was Japan only.
I think it would have been better to just go a straight remake.
HOWEVER.
There is something cool about having the characters go back to the events of the FFVII for the final showdown, and seeing things play out in a new timeline.
I'm fine with it. I think the whispers are fricking stupid and the concept could have can handled in a better way.
I also believe, fairly strongly, that erasing the deaths of Zack and Aerith would be a bad move, but I don't expect them to really go through with it. We'll see, I guess.
>Terrible dialogue >Boring filler >Fighting anything flying with Cloud/Tifa
Even if we don't discuss the story changes (which ARE badly executed), the game has multiple flaws to stop it being a masterpiece
>terrible dialogue
That is a flaw, but it can be mitigated if you play in Japanese and know basically any of the language. Much like the original game, it's the translation that hurts it.
But yeah, just a shitload of filler. That's absolutely true. I fricking hate the underplate generator bullshit dungeon, massive sewer dungeon, and gigantic abandoned warehouse in the train graveyard.
in a very distant future the remake will be in the same trash heap as crisis core and dirge of cerberus, celebrated only by autistic morons with no taste. and FFVII will still be considered a landmark title which new people still discover and enjoy.
I just got it. I actually find the gameplay significantly more boring then FFXV. The other thing better is that it balanced so you can just spam infinite potions. Am I missing something?
FFXV at least required me to focus on Noctis's position. And the other characters played completely differently when unlocked.
If you've just started it, you need to give it more time. The other characters in Remake also play completely differently, and develop more as you unlock skills which are tied to weapons.
As for spamming potions, you really can't. Item use is tied to ATB just like skills and magic. If you're always spamming potions you won't be doing much damage at all.
Really? I find the battle system the perfected hybrid of action + turn based. They started it with FFXIII, improved with Lightning Returns, tried a different tactic with FFXV, but only with FFVII Remake did they really nail it for me.
I was going to keep playing it regardless. Maybe I will like it once I unlock more party members and abilities
Very small bits of info, useful even at the beginning. >Barret can charge his overcharge while he pauses to reload, essentially letting you do it for free >Tifa's core mechanic is powering up her special attacks, which are basically the only way to boost the pressure damage multiplier and do so significantly
Two small things to make Barret much more efficient, and make Tifa enable the complete melting of bosses and heavy enemies.
Switching between characters frequently is worthwhile, in my experience.
Something else that is worth noting - Barret technically has 3 atb slots at all times when you take into acct overcharge on both ranged and melee Barret. Try to always use your atb slots before you use a charged shot to restore them. I tend to use charge on ranged Barret after every action. It's a good way to rapidly build & store overcharge.
Melee Barret builds ATB insanely fast w/Overrun & can build limit break quickly too hitting and staggering multiple enemies with it. Deadly dodge is fantastic on melee Barret along with HP Absorb. Same for enemy skill + hp absorb. Just bring a wind materia if you are concerned about flying enemies ever.
This also applies to Tifa's chi usage since you can use omnistrike/rise & fall to rapidly build stagger damage whilst recharging your atb in between using true strike or dive kicks. Uppercut is always available on Tifa too regardless of chi level - just hold attack instead and then use dive kick afterwards. Uppercuts are great for building atb too. So she can store potentially two atb bars into her chi levels for when you stagger the boss.
All of the characters unique mechanics (Punisher Mode, Chi, Overcharge/Overrun, Tempest) can be used to rapidly build ATB gauge.
Now that's some shit I didn't know. I should really study up before I drive back into the hard mode run I set down at the train graveyard.

A fun thing to note - Barret's overcharge/overrun is always charged at the start of battle meaning he effectively always has around a level 2 first strike materia equipped. This doesn't mean you can't stack it on him too since he could then potentially have 3 full atb slots to use. But it's something to keep in mind since you only ever have two first strike materias.
Oh and he effectively has one mastered hp materia equipped at all times. If you are going for a perfect materia collection - don't bother getting 8 hp materia's mastered. Barret will max HP with only one equipped on every weapon.
Always go into Punisher Mode on Cloud and hold attack so Cloud slams his sword into the ground and goes Berserk for a little while. It's a free 30% attack buff and you can them combo this into two bravers potentially after staggering an enemy.
Synergy is best used on Cloud or Aerith with their best magic weapons equipped. Just control someone else to maximize overall party damage. Barret and Tifa can do this too with some of their magic weapons albeit to a lesser extent. This will allow you to tear through most of hardmode too. Keep MP absorb & magnify on whatever character you are actually controlling tho. Magnify breaks the games regular encounters completely regardless of difficulty. Only time I ever really have MP problems on hard is in chapter 17 thanks to the miniboss then boss rush near the end of the chapter with no mp refill inbetween. Hard mode Jenova is insanely tough.
Really? I find the battle system the perfected hybrid of action + turn based. They started it with FFXIII, improved with Lightning Returns, tried a different tactic with FFXV, but only with FFVII Remake did they really nail it for me.
Film remakes have had significant changes long before video game remakes were even commonplace. The idea of a Remake secretly being a sequel is fairly new as far as I know, though.
i genuinely enjoy nomura and nojima's wild rides, and the remake is no exception. it also helps that they've absolutely nailed the cast's characterization. the writing is so good that it's made me a big fan of characters like scarlet and barrett who i never really cared much about in the original.
the comparisons people always make to western garbage like soi wars are based on a fundamental misunderstanding. unlike disney, nomura and nojima don't do what they do out of malice or spite towards the paying customers. there's no deranged political agenda at work either. it's literally just two gaming industry veterans sitting around saying "wouldn't it be cool if we tried this?" and seeing where it takes them. they're all about ambition, spectacle, and fun.
I think items should be legal on hardmode since MP Absorb, Synergy, & Aerith's Soul Drain make MP not really a problem anyway outside of chapter 17 and it's mostly Jenova anyway. It's less managing MP so much as learning to utilize your resources better to deal with bosses doing insane damage and having far more health. Item master might not be completely broken on hardmode anyway. Prayer could still get use on Barret with Steelskin. Chakra could still be decent for some of the strength builds in solo play + the poison cure is nice for some bosses.
I like Remake. Not as much as the OG but I still really like it so far. The combat is great and it's nice to see something new and to not know exactly what's going to happen after playing the OG 20 times.
I literally don't give a FRICK about this piece of shit so called "remake". Not my Final Fantasy VII. Never will be.
It's a dumbed down, unfaithful ruination of a perfect game, with homosexual looking characters, has a mind numbingly moronic action combat system with explosions and sparks flying over the place that half of the time you can't tell what the frick is happening, aimed at mentally challenged zoomers who weren't even alive when the original came out. I'd play the PC release with mods from qhimm instead of this dumpster fire ANY day.
>perfect game
it was shit though >homosexual looking characters
just like the original, they just look less like lego now. >mind numbingly moronic action combat
Absolutely shits on the original
That would have been cool.
Unfortunately they made a straight remake, added a bunch of bad, mandatory filler, and then shoved in about an hour's worth of "IT'S OKAY, WE'RE BEING META!" to justify making a worse product.
imagine her getting BLACKED
give me 1 reason to play the original on ps1 instead of this. (hardmode: don't say pacing)
It has more soul and the better story

I love it, and I wish more people stopped taking it at face value

In a very distant future most gamers will look back and see how genius their idea was. In other words, most were not ready for this masterpiece.

when did people start calling "remake" something that is totally not like the source?
Film remakes have had significant changes long before video game remakes were even commonplace. The idea of a Remake secretly being a sequel is fairly new as far as I know, though.

This
meds. now.
I was agreeing with you. Unless you think there's a valid criticism of remake, in which case frick off outta here.
There is NO valid praise for FFVII Remake.
aerith so pretty i would like to french kiss her
Legacy of kain has similar events and it isnt meta
Why is ff7r meta?
I'm not sure how LoK does it, but FFVIIR directly references events from the original and deals, centrally, with those events being changed.
Legacy does too
Events that happened and events that will happen
Ff7r isnt a story about ff7, it is just a story
It isnt meta at all

I was always a Tifa guy growing up but Remake Aeris is so cute bros.
*Aerith
Dumb name, still calling her Aeris
Dumb typo, its stupid to cling onto a typo after all these years for no reason
She's so much better in the remake it's understandable
I like Remake. Not as much as the OG but I still really like it so far. The combat is great and it's nice to see something new and to not know exactly what's going to happen after playing the OG 20 times.

Loving the remake. It's a beautiful reimagining of the original. The girls are amazing.
That would have been cool.

A remake more like a sequel.
