Still is my primary soloing job, next to RDM. Shame BLU is fucking garbage in any endgame content that isn't Vagary. Can fill some niches in Dynamis and Omen pretty well though, depending on the group setup.
You can solo the story quests and side quests with your AI party, when it comes to late game content for powerful gear you'll have to party with real players.
There's a fuck-ton of content to do if you get the DLC expansions.
>FFXI >solo experience
the only jobs that could even solo were Bst and Blm and even then it wasnt very good.
it was Everquest style exp aka: you HAD to party up with 6 randoms to grind for 4 hours and maybe get half of a level in a night
Remember this fucker? of course you don't you had no idea the nightmare it was to snag carby mitts as a shmuck level 50 summoner having to wheel and deal to get party members to sign up for the ride. Don't get me started on YYR
I was SMN main, got my carby mitts with LS help. Did my solo avatar fights, Ramuh took like 9 attempts.
YYR robe was a bunch of drama. I got the ToD myself and was trying to get people to help me. my social LS said they would help but the leader would get first robe, I said that was BS since I was the only main SMN and found the ToD myself. I left the LS and they never got ToD from me, Got some great buds from my Sky LS to help.
Worst part of SMN was getting it to 75 you had to be main healer for exp parties, or pull for mana burns
the NM himself was easy
the hard part was actually getting the pop item because that whole Thief Knife area of Temple of Ugly was fucking link hell.
even on 75cap private servers with 5x xp and where anyone could farm their own relic in 3 days shit was dangerous as fuck
lowkey the most dangerous area in the game, with 1 or 2 exceptions
getting the pop was super easy as smn. idk why and it only worked in the temple but if I ran back and forth against the doors, carby would go into the room, then when i walked away from the door carby would open the door. I could use 1 invis and open every regular door in the zone. just find the ??? got the pop for people easy no agro. then for the doors leading to the NM that needed key, you just target a pot or tonberry on the other side, have carby attack it, then retreat and the mob would open the key door to case Carby.
I helped so many people get carby mitts, like some wise old SMN mentor. also my tonberry hate was crazy high and i refused to reset it so I would always get 1 shot with grudge and rancor.
SE has had a real bad attitude towards FFXI for a long time but the past year and a half have been real fucking disgusting.
>20th anniversary >Cancel (probably for the best) the big surprise they had setup >All they have for it is a website, some interviews, and a song and even XIV doesn't do anything besides re-run an old event >Do an AMA where the answer to every question is "yeah we'd like to but we don't have the manpower or funding" >Say they'll look into a few things like sub merging >For the 21st anniversary they still haven't done anything to the game and the present this year is official maintenance mode >Still charge more than their newer MMO, doubly so for people who buy the extra stuff
It's real slimy of them to put it on maintenance mode and not lower the sub fee.
I'd still take a lowered sub over merged sub. I don't play XIV, so that wouldn't benefit me.
(probably for the best) the big surprise they had setup
There was no 'big' surprise, and the thing was just TVR itself, which was alright for what it was, minus it adding the worst relic grind in the game. I'd rather grind HMP or do another Mythic than spend another hour in fucking Sortie.
>>Do an AMA where the answer to every question is "yeah we'd like to but we don't have the manpower or funding"
This shit sucked a lot. There's still some things with the game client that would benefit it a lot, like cached inventory (so it doesn't spend 30s reloading it to the client every fucking zone), fixing camera collision (so it doesn't spazz against walls, which is a PC-exclusive bug), make some NPCs spawn client-side that are static (every town NPC), remove fucking player-to-player collision, etc.
>>For the 21st anniversary they still haven't done anything to the game and the present this year is official maintenance mode
All we got was a new master trial, which apparently is on the easier side relative to the others.
That was cancelled prior to the initial tease about the 20th anniversary lead up. No real XI player wanted a shitty phone bastardization of their beloved (unloved by SE) game.
>had a huge windfall of players in 2020 due to the meme virus >fuck up the momentum anyway
typical SE. Only reason why Im sticking around is because we got a nice endgame shell going but this company sucks so much ass
>20th anniversary >20th anniversary stream is literally 4 hours of literal who japs saying "hey that was nostalgic huh?" "yeah sure was"
shit was infuriating
every other 20 year old MMO pulled out all the stops for their anniversary events
I've always wanted to play my own solo private server where I had full admin commands to spawn anything I want and do whatever. Just to explore the world and see random shit I never saw while regularly playing, or just go beat up random HNMS and shit without bothering with pop items or wait times to see what drops I get. Shame I'm too brainlet to figure out how to do it
>Play FF I to IX and love them >Play THE SHIT out of XIV >Finally DL Horizon XI yesterday >Have no fucking idea what to do, where to go, how to do shit, customize HUD, etc...
This was made for retail but you can still grab a lot of info from it. I'm not sure if the general on Ganker is still up but if it is you can drop questions there too.
>what to do
get exp >where to go
go to the dunes, qufim, jungles, GC, CN for exp >how to do shit
join parties, get exp >customize HUD
you cant
as much as i love 75cap FFXI like 95% of the gameplay is exp parties
once you're like lv50 start doing your Nation missions and Chains of Promathia.
from lv50 you'll have to do difficult quests to raise your lvl cap every 5 levels.
at lv70 you'll have to do a solo boss fight to unlock max lvl
once you're lv75 do Zilart missions and finish CoP
that alone will keep you busy for the next 6~18 months depending how much you grind
private servers are usually done for one of two reasons, either people don't want to pay or they want to play an old old old version of the game that doesn't exist anymore. In the case of XIV the free trial
Because the core of the game and its two expansions are free.
it covers most of the game and that keeps those people happy, the other side is that the old version of the game is literally the worst MMO ever made and no one wants to play it.
Even though most of them don't do it properly the XI private servers try to emulate a version of the game that is vastly different than retail and is no longer playable by official means.
>the other side is that the old version of the game is literally the worst MMO ever made and no one wants to play it.
I still want YoshiP to put one out in maintenance mode just to shut those people up. Charge extra on top of the ARR sub fee for it if they have to justify it since they would have to update the client to use their modern backend for the lodestone/character-storage.
the paid content in xiv is more than enough to make a private server attractive because the game appeals to the kind of people who want to get to 'endgame' and do all the 'endgame stuff' (putting aside the questionable quality of xiv's endgame content)
the more correct answer is that it's near impossible on a technical level to make an xiv private server because most of the inner workings of the game are done server-side, like the raid timelines don't even play out without the actual server
It doesn't and it's not that hard to setup raid timelines as the cheating scene will show, there is no feasible reason why anyone would want to make a private server for XIV outside of being monumentally hard headed and wanting to see for themselves just how bad 1.0 was in person.
XI private servers exist because people want to play the golden age version of the game that no longer exists, it's the same reason why WoW private servers focused on vanilla.
wrong. the cheating scene literally proved that private servers can't exist. they were not able to emulate TOP's fight timeline, that's why the leak exists of all the mechanics going off at once
I agree, I think XI has some really interesting design though, especially after I dropped XIV during Shadowbringers. I really just want a simple FF RPG, where you create your own character, customize their gear and class, and just explore the world, XIV is kinda in-line with that but its Simon Says MMO design is total garbage, and it's so overly designed and restricted in how you approach and deal with encounters.
The gearing is an absolute nightmare. Switching gear fir every sungle action you take is a retarded concept and peak autism.
Gear swapping originally was a lot of fun, combat well paced and you had time to think so it was swapping for a spell or flipping between this set or that and it was all very intuitive. Nowadays the game is so fast paced and players are so wired that it's way too ridiculous.
>that's why the leak exists of all the mechanics going off at once
That was actually from an internal dev build of the fight where you have access to debug commands and such. That's why SE took immediate action against whoever leaked it.

they never caught the guy lol. the entire top wfr was a drama-filled shitshow from start to finish, but cbu3 only said they were trying to find the perp then went silent on it

>break the fire weather effect some time into WotG >never fix it a decade later
Actually they never fucking fixed anything with the client besides revamping the fishing minigame twice, and then removing the frame-rate cap on it after PS2/360 support was finally dropped and then balancing the fish difficulty around 30fps instead. For the uninitiated, the minigame was tied to the framerate, and PS2 ran the game shit, meaning PS2 players had an easier time with the hard fish, so the dev's bandaid was making the game cap to 15fps when fishing
I burned out after grinding myself so much Ambuscade I had a +2 set and a Naegling for the WAR I got to 99. I got mega fucking lucky with a gobbiekey, which dropped me a pulse weapon. But after that I just couldn't stomach playing the game for long anymore, especially since my autism demands I finish Wings and Seekers before carrying on with RoV
i'm pretty sure there are studios in japan alone that messed up worse than se, let alone in all of existence
>that's why the leak exists of all the mechanics going off at once
That was actually from an internal dev build of the fight where you have access to debug commands and such. That's why SE took immediate action against whoever leaked it.
yes, but they didn't have access to the server that plays out the fight timeline, yoshida mentioned this
i played ffxi for the first time with horizon
lot of fun but man i spent too many goddamn hours playing and i felt like i was falling behind if i wasn't spending time on it
For me it's Blue Mage, the best Job in the game
For me it's Mithra WAR/MNK wielding a greataxe
Still is my primary soloing job, next to RDM. Shame BLU is fucking garbage in any endgame content that isn't Vagary. Can fill some niches in Dynamis and Omen pretty well though, depending on the group setup.
Is the solo experience comparable to Guild Wars 1?
You can solo the story quests and side quests with your AI party, when it comes to late game content for powerful gear you'll have to party with real players.

If they got rid of playonline and offered a combo sub, I might play retail more
>he doesn't know about all the top tier tunes hidden within playonline
>still has a monthly fee
They should pair it with FF14
wheres the single player remake already
Come home white man
>no south gustaberg
nowayfag

For me, it's Jeuno.
This will forever be home. Though Whitegate came close for quite a long time there
Once I had a dream with this music playing on the background.
I never woke up so relaxed and at peace
Was part of FFXI end game for years so many buff loops I even max out phlanx 2 to be able to do more for the alliance.
Must keep inventory sorted in all games now.
75 cap era FFXI was pure soul.

That's what you get for playing on the fan fiction-tier XI private server that doesn't respect actual lvl75-era retail.
This was made for retail but you can still grab a lot of info from it. I'm not sure if the general on Ganker is still up but if it is you can drop questions there too.

Fun game but making gil is gay as hell
why aren't there any xiv private servers
there is barely any interest in xiv as it is

I am confident SE deserves the title of biggest piece of shit game studio in existence. They simply have no competition in that achievement.
I know about Forspoken and 16, but what exactly are their issues lately?
Are they just out of touch with what they make?
Nothing beats EA in that regards. SE primarily sticks to fucking their own shit up + Eidos.
i'm pretty sure there are studios in japan alone that messed up worse than se, let alone in all of existence
yes, but they didn't have access to the server that plays out the fight timeline, yoshida mentioned this
The 'timeline' is just something you'd painstakingly recreate, like any other MMO private server scripting job for a fight.
i played ffxi for the first time with horizon
lot of fun but man i spent too many goddamn hours playing and i felt like i was falling behind if i wasn't spending time on it
