Yeah 100% its not just retail whenever trusts become an option its the default like catseye might as well just be a single player game with an optional chatbox since its just so much more effective. Sometimes people group for the sake of it for a little bit until the call of trusts become too strong.
You're 20 years too late for that. If you have time the best you can do is play a 75-era server or maybe down the line there will be a good classic server with higher rates.
As for money just use your sparks or check the wiki and see if there's any older items veteran players might sometimes want that aren't worth their time to get and farm those.

Not really, the cause and effect are reversed. Trusts were added *because* there's nobody to play with while progressing, not that trusts killed progression parties.

You don't, retail is for people who have been autistically playing the game for 10-20 years at this point and the devs really wish they would stop so they can work on something else. If you want the human element play FFXI Horizon, you'll be playing with other people constantly after lvl 10 compared to retail where it will take over a hundred hours of solo grinding just to maybe get into the lowest tier of group content.

The dumbest mechanic in the game is how monster tp works. Essentially melee feeds tp more than casters so nobody wants them by default for hnms that 2-3 tp moves can be devastating.

Pld/nin is the best endgame tank with pld/war being the 2nd and make any other option pretty much obsolete. Its needed for a good amount of hnms/missions/dynamis.
Nin tanking really just isnt a thing endgame, theres no reason you couldn’t have a pld tank instead all you really gain bringing a nin is shadows+voke at once.
Nobody plays war as a tank past like level 40 even though its arguably better at tanking in leveling parties than pld with /nin

It just deals a lot of damage as a dd that must people refuse to have it do anything else in the mid-high leveling groups even though pld is really mid tier in leveling parties while war/nin is solid tanking . Samurai was also more geared towards tanking and ninja towards being a melee rdm debuffer.
Players made up there own meta based around killing monsters 8-10 levels higher, the second you actually kill on level monsters the meta is completely different. Suddenly you dont even need a tank or a main healer. But thats way too easy and the lower xp numbers are just not that exciting
RDM/NIN and NIN/DRK (or DRK/NIN) are better depending on the content. Who the frick plays PLD/WAR?

drk/nin just has a lot of haste in gear+stun when you're gear capped. later on it gets dread spikes that absorbs health from getting hit also. its def not something people really do like that other than with really geared people. you won't join a party expecting to drk tank, at least not on purpose.

Still sounds cool though. I know on retail there's some niche strategies that let you get 9999 health somehow and you're able to tank certain Ambuscade battles like that.

DRK can land stun, it has plenty of +Dark Magic skill gear available
Your Job Abilities and spells (like Stun and the debuffs) generate a shit top of enmity, so it's great at holding hate.

PLD/WAR is ideal at 75 for NMs that bypass shadows or chews through shadows quickly. Gurf/JoP/JoJ are example where PLD/WAR > PLD/NIN.

SMNs make a skillchain, they can do either light (Predator Claws+Chaotic Strike) or darkness (Rush+Eclipse Bite), the RDM and BLMs Magic Burst. THF sits out of alliance until the last ~10% you swap out someone in the damage party for them, have them land a hit to apply TH, then you kill. Some bosses require you to adjust that a bit but this works for 95% of end game stuff with only minor tweaks like dropping a BLM for another WHM or swapping PLD for NIN.

Are you moronic? Horizon normalized TP gain so melee all generate a proportionate amount to what they themselves gain. This makes melee much more reliable on TP feed, even when dual wielding. Also - BLM nukes and SMN BPs feed TP now.
I invite you to actually try it. SMNs just dismiss their avatars between BPs, BLMs only nuke during magic bursts. Melees will feed TP at all times, yes they adjusted it but it didn't go far enough to actually make Melees desirable for HNMs.
hnms are such a small part of the game, if that's what you choose to spend your time on that's on you

Rinste's drama should be a big deal but Violet has a bunch of her friends in as GMs so it's impossible to oust her without losing a lot of the current GM staff so I doubt anything will come from it. The corruption will only get worse.

This goes beyond Rinste. The issue is Violet using their powers as head GM to benefit their friend group. This includes using that GM account to grab ToDs for NMs while they were doing things on their main account, strictly breaking the rules about dualboxing. Rinste has been suspended in the past for what he's typed in chat and we now know that it's Violet that made sure it was a suspension and not a ban because they're friends.
The fundamental issue is that since it's a private server, the GM staff are volunteers that also play the game and it's against the interest of the entire server when that group also has their own HNMLS. One of the screenshots that Rinste provided shows Violet popping an NM and having it claimed directly to their LS. This is exacerbated by the fact that Violet made sure to get some of their friends, that are in that same HNMLS now, onto the GM staff. So you now have an HNMLS with staff members in it that are clearly okay with abusing their powers, it will ruin the entire end game scene because other HNMLS will not know if the staff LS is getting claims legitimately or not and it will lead to resentment that leads to players quit even if the staff LS is doing everything above board and keep getting lucky on claims. It's a conflict of interest that threatens to ruin the server.
You're right that watching this scenario unfold because Rinste couldn't stop using slurs is hilarious though. If his dumb ass actually manages to drag everyone else down, it'd be a one of the funniest private server incidents that I've ever seen. Too bad that it probably won't amount to anything, Violet had a track record of abusing their power on Eden and it never mattered there either.

I never had a mental breakdown from the ban. It was a relief to not have to log in any more, just annoying that it was a result of staff corruption. I mentioned before that I had dealt with Juul/Fae cheating and showing favoritism since Eden. I'm also not sure how someone who actually dealt with Kipling isn't a credible source unless you believe that lady was lying. I never played on that server (limit break) and don't know anyone there, so I obviously can't say anything about their old ls. I only know what was told to me via DMs. Someone asked for what I knew and I showed it. It's anecdotal, yes. But I believe her and don't think she would have DMd this to me just to make me think worse of someone I already had blocked. Also as I stated, she didn't want her name to be public since she plays on horizon and was afraid of Kipling retaliating in some way. Anyway beating a dead horse at this point. I want a server that removes any NM camping, and instead makes them all pop NMs from pop items from low CD generic overworld mobs (guaranteed pop item drop after certain number of kills). TH doesn't exist. Every item is 100% drop and full table. NM has no pop tradein CD. Players can only pop it twice in over world. If you want to fight it again there's a free unlimited BC you now have access too.
Endgame and high crafting is concentrated autism that needs to get nuked. These morons would not play when they can't have any exclusive gear to idle in town with or show off in merits to buffer their parse's lack of mechanical skill.

Ive never interacted with a gm while doing this but I do think my camera was flipped once which surprised me.
With a macro that says /fish you don’t even need the bottom half of your screen to fish. If you have sound turned on you can hear what you got on the line. Unless they move your character away from the area and the background changes I don’t see how I’d ever notice a gm
If I can’t see the messages I wont know if its an item or a monster so it doesn’t surprise me that they think you were botting

The recent Setsuko arc is getting really out there but even the Rinste/Violet and Kipling sections were kind of crazy. All of these people are going to be on the next private server, just like they were on the previous private servers. It's the same core base of players every time. Square is never going to run classic servers, they don't have the staff anymore. They only have a skeleton crew to keep retail going.
And it would require the staff to run 2 servers, because JP players will not come back to FF11 if it's still filled with NA players.
The biggest selling point for JP would be no more filthy gaijin, it was the main reason they left the game for XIV which had it's own region for Japan. If they had gone for the traditional server model that XIV ended up going back to XI would be in healthier state today.

Sounds like you're kind of confused. Like the main source of CE is self curing, Flash is just an emergency button when mob turns until end game. Cure II yourself once each fight, that's 24 MP. And then, sometimes, you Flash or Sentinel or Shield Bash if you need to. On Eden you need to chug juice but it's still a great exp job cuz it's the only one with the hate tools to pull off DPS who go all out and sub war.

I know how to play pld its not that complex. You’re using 24 mp for cure 2 early game regardless the goal is to use as little as possible so the group never has to sit. Even with refresh bots those rdm Black folk will literally forget and than tell me “hey can you heal yourself more why aren’t you healing above 85% for parade latent” like homie can you refresh me more and hurr durr i dont know wasting 166 mp for two cure 4 for 3 ticks of another refresh before i get knocked below again is moronic? or bards frick up and give me a damage buff instead of a refresh buff even if we spent 2 mins going over positions so im right in front of the healer but its going to be my fault when im oom so you have to know how to get by with stretching mp out in the later levels because people are fricking dogshit at this game.

Anyways usually leveling pld is to always have something to cast every 10-15 seconds to keep a constant supply of emnity without exerting your mp pool. Usually one job ability, flash or ws for every mob and than kinda just throw in a cure 4 preferably least one a mob to keep yourself top without over curing sometimes two if you take 2 crits which happens. Thats usually 110ish mp to 190mp per 20-30 second battle with a refresh on you will make up half of that easily back during the fight. Its always a slightly losing battle using just a tad more than you have without popping yagudo drinks but i can easily last until the next chiveraly while keeping mob attention 100% of the time but again refresh bot homies are bad and will just forgot for 30 seconds

I've also had some dumb PLDs that just refuse to Cure IV themselves, I'm not sure why, and prefer Cure III. As PLD you should have no problem casting a cure IV or a strong CD like sentinel every fight even with a WHM, you have chivalry, auto refresh, and devotion.
pld isn't hard i don't think any job is but it does require slightly more foresight than most jobs in 11 which breaks boomer brains

merit party is not the cuckshed, endgame crap is. merit party actually gives room for constant sustained fast actions. in endgame crap you spend most of the time just waiting around. endgame always put me to sleep. Those are the fun jobs indeed

Horizon felt like 2000's XI to me. There were lots of new players that weren't just private server refugees and that made it enjoyable. I would love a fresh official server with people that have never played XI before. I want the full early 2000's dunes experience, Horizon gave us that early on with Gusgen being a complete shitshow with people farming subjob items training the entire zone to the entrance over and over again and entire alliances of 18 people wiping to a single Ghoul that keeps spamming the lifesteal TP move.
People actually went to Buburimu to get their subjob items instead because all the noobs made going the Valkurm route too hard. It was awesome.

I wouldn't say there's anything necessarily wrong with them, but OP warps are strong as frick (in terms of time-saving & transportation) on this server specifically. not to mention the combination of placing the goblins in jeuno for easy access to warping anywhere around the world & the fact that you have access to them prior to even getting rank5 for airship pass. once you get the OPs to ronfaure/saruta/gusta, there's literally zero need to set your homepoint at any of the original cities unless it's for crafting or something specific.
I personally don't mind, though, because spending more time running isn't my idea of fun or a good time investment at this stage in life. I can see how some people would be against it given how large of a change it is compared to mid-2000s retail.

Nothing, they're a good time saver and in era. However, they happened way too early in the servers life. They should have extended the time that players are forced to actually interact with airships and having to chocobo from town so that newer players got the full experience. But to anyone that's been playing the game for a while or wanted to do end game, they were obviously a huge boon. So was the warper in Jeuno. Jeuno was the central hub in era so having the warper there helped manage to recapture that feel, but so would have leaving it as the place where all the airships connect and having it as the place that was in the middle of everything so it was a good place to grab chocobos from and if it wasn't then you could grab a teleport.
The white mage mafia died the moment they introduced the warps, before that they were in town 24/7 making gil. Afterwards, people only cared about Vazhl and Yhoat, but outpost warps killed most of the demand there too. It just took a bit longer for players to actually get those locations.

Our LS would run it as a weekly event. Every week we did a different event (HNM ToDs permitting), JoL, DL, Sky2.0, ZNMs, Wyrmking Descends, KS99s, ect

The rules are retroactive and only there because they fricked up and had an idiot as head GM that kept idiot friends around, which led to them having to disclose that they have access to every message that everyone has ever typed on the server. What makes matters worse is that the current staff has no issues going through peoples logs to find incriminating evidence and then outing them publicly.
Why that's an issue is because it makes it so players do not want to type in chat. Which drives even more players towards discord and that's a major issue for emulating the feel of classic XI. You should be shooting the shit with party members or whenever there's downtime, or else the game turns into XIV where you say pleasantries when you join up and leave a group and that's it.

Core things like exp values and run speed had documentation back in the 2000s. Player stats and pretty much anything you could view also did. Monster stats is where it starts getting muddy. They’re at least making changes to this stuff on horizon instead of leaving it easy mode forever.

Have you ever tried multiboxing? Is it even fun? I am told it's like playing a traditional FF game. Are all the chars on one account, or do people buy multiple subs?
I multiboxed many years ago and it was sorta fun. The scripts available now aren't quite what they were back then (or, to clarify, I didn't have access to the ones that trivialize the tediousness), so I spent most of the time alt-tabbing between 2 windows. I stopped multiboxing because I ended up focusing on one character at the detriment of the other, so it was just going to be too much work (at the time) to update it. Depending on how good you are with the scripting/gearswap, you could definitely create an entire party out of your own characters and have it function autonomously. For harder content (I'm thinking more along the lines of Odyssey/Sortie specifically), you'll run into issues in that you'd generally want 6 independent players rather than 1 player controlling 6 characters so it's a bit tougher to optimize. All things considered, if you have multiple characters, it's very easy to funnel gear/resources towards 1 character if all of them are able to take part and receive relevant rewards (think of all that Alexandrite you can get from Ambuscade every month).
At any rate, all of the characters have to be paid for independently - so 2 characters is 2*(sub cost + any potential wardrobes you need to buy). It seems like most people tend to just focus on one or 2 jobs per character they add, which tend to be supports (whm/brd/cor/geo).

Endgame content encompasses lots of different things tho, even 6man where melee are better and a lot of this also gets overturned in toau.

Toau balance/rebalance might push people to level new jobs to breathe new life in the early zones but sooner or later everyone will have either dropped those or hit 75 and now we wait for wotg etc etc

Catseye used to have a niche as the most QoL server. So if you wanted to play XI without the grind or sub you could blast through it there, get a job to 75, hit rank 10 in your nation, and then get a craft to 110 for a free relic, do some endgame and drop it once the urdge to play XI it out of your system. Now though its trying to appeal to everyone by creating different account type for every possible type of player except the people they originally appealed to. You want to play the most Hardcore XI "Catseye CW", you want to play Wings "Catseye WEW", you want to play 75 cap but with retail QoL "Catseye ACE". It makes no fricking sense what they're trying to do. They should just pick a lane instead of trying to be everything.
you can play retail without a grind. you easily get like 3k xp a kill with all of the xp rings, and rov xp bonuses. retail also has all of the content and no janky pserver. what is catseye on atm? toau?

Any server can shutdown but there are some that have been stable for ages.
All of the horizon changes are mostly qol. Everything that was good is still good and even the nerfed jobs are still good and all of the bad jobs in era are still bad.
