I wish ffxi had a single player mode without expansions. Just classic PS2 ffxi single player

you can host your own private server
I used to play on a 8(c)han private server back in the day, didn't get too much into it due to MMOs not being my cup of tea though.

    >Your sub job is maxed at half the level of your main job
So it's utility and not like you can make some sort of good mix of combat abilities? That doesn't sound quite as interesting. Guild wars let you level your sub class abilities to be really strong, almost as strong as a main class ability.

For example, Warriors get the only taunt in the game at level 5. Therefore if you want to tank with reliable threat, you choose warrior as a subjob. Ninjas get an ability at level 13 that lets them automatically avoid the next 3 attacks, so if threat is not an issue you can subjob ninja instead for more survivability.
You also get stat boosts, so for example, black mages will use summoner as a subjob not to gain access to any of its spells (which are terrible for the level of monster you are fighting) but to just get the largest mana boost of any subjob. You can do similar with Monk for HP.

Real similar to guild wars actually all class combos get a small pool of meaningful powers. Unfortunately the only 2 games who did this idea well came out like 20 years ago and we will never see it done again since it isn't what wow did.

I know a player had to be hospitalized as a result of the first successful Pandemonium Warden but I am not aware of any player deaths.
There were also people falling apart after 18+ hour AV attempts but no deaths

DRG best job. DRG/SAM for big D damage (the D is for Dragoon), DRG/RDM for versitile utility for soloing and lowman stuff. Looking forward to trying DRG/BLU when TOAU comes out too. In the future.

hurr durr all mmos are the saem.

For the FF11 time machine, you go to horizonxi.com and click some buttons.
The rest of the world stays fricked, sorry.

    You are correct.
Having a cheap spammable spell from Blue Mage made rushing early levels easy, Having weapon masteries from Warriors (and some merits) made solo proccing in Abyssea/VW easier, and pre level cap subbing Ranger for map widescan made hunting Notorious Monsters more fun.
If anything the system was underutilized with the devs placing "class defining" skills at levels higher than 37 and not designing intentional synergies.
Still the coolest game mechanically out of any Final Fantasy. Would have been even better if the devs (Tanaka) didn't actually hate the players in its glory days.

LOL. It's nothing but a gay, digital AIDS, pre-buffing spam, dress up simulator. The only thing good about it is that it quarantined all the disgusting turbo weaboos, normoid Japs, and dregs away from civilized society.

Doesn't matter because some choices will be useless and others will be used by every character. There has never been a balanced game in the history of gaming.

if only it didn't have ultra cancerous turbo grindy shit and horrible balance in general

it would be the undisputed GOAT
