Tbqh the vast majority of the designs have disappointed me. I already didn't like a good bunch of them, but on top of that most of them didn't translate well into the game (not counting any actual frickups on the modeler's side, like the katana suddenly being building sized) but the ones I didn't like went from meh to absolutely vomitive and the ones I did like went from cool to meh. Also I'm pretty sure someone mixed up the length of the katana with the length of the DRG lance, but it's hilariously tiny and also ruins an otherwise awesome design by simply being ridiculously undersized.
I still like the healers, the BLM one and the BRD one. Shame I don't play a single one of those jobs.

I've been working on getting my BLU mount. And I mess around with the PvP some. I'm also working on getting my 2k mentor roulette mount, I'm about halfway there. And I need to do more Ocean Fishing.
I just legitimately like running the roulettes, too. Especially mentor, it's fun to help teach mechanics to new people.

The real scourge are the toxic casuals. The entire reason why EW has no content is because the casuals complained endlessly about Bozja being too much effort, because of that they took the opportunity to cut a major piece of content and replace it with two much smaller pieces.

I haven't played the BLM quests but my opinion on the BRD ones was that they were perfect right until the very last quest where suddenly the moral lesson was "Just ignore warcrimes dude, let murderers get away with it because seeking to punish them is bothersome". You don't even, like, fricking tell the truth to the leaders of the parts involved and simply tell them to be discrete about it, WoL and the BRD dudes just decide to take the secret to their graves which was fricking stupid. Yeah, it caused a disease called "Yotsuyu" and since that business was SO succesful the entire population fricking caught a bad case of it.
I never cared for Zenos except during the 4.X patches where there seemed to be a slight set-up for change...and then the premise is immediately wasted at the end of 5.0, which is only made worse by the Zenos does absolutely fricking nothing B-plot of 5.X that still extends into majority of 6.0. With how bad Ishikawa mangled EW, I can barely call her a competent writer anymore. SHB was basically a fluke and even it had more severe pacing issues than HW, she should've stuck to side-stories which is clearly her forte.

Just in general. Just the IDEA of releasing a video of "here's how we design these 100% scripted fights that don't take player input into account at any point" is farcical. ChatGPT could design an encounter in this game. Hell you could probably write a python program to randomly spit out a list of mechanics and generate a timeline of where each player should stand, calculate their uptime and theoretical maximum damage at a given item level.
I didn't watch it but I bet there wasn't a part where they said "oh and when the players do something we didn't expect we just take that ability away or make it not work".

You had to kill a bunch of different NMs in a proper order, then hit him with a spell dependent on the elemental day it was. Then you had to have jobs pop their 2 hour at the exact moment he popped his to cancel it out. moronic devs never actually seemed to have tested this on a live server though because the window for locking out his 2 hour was impossible for almost everyone.

98% of XI's playerbase never even did the chore that was the Jailer grind to even see Absolute Virtue. Then again, during that expansion's relevancy, most of the player didn't even make it through that grueling MSQ to even reach the end game area.

Actually I'm suggesting things that were already in the game that they took out.
You can stun Ifrit and Ifrit HM. You used to be able to use Holmgang to bind Titan facing forward while moving behind him, causing him to miss his mountain buster and silence him during his tumults to interrupt them in the last phase. You used to be able to tank landslides as black mage with manawall, since it doesn't knock you back if it doesn't do damage. Coil Turn 2 had multiple paths you could take resulting in different boss patterns or you could just tank enrage. Now they have knockbacks that go through the ability they have specifically to make you immune to knockback, or they stun you before the knockback. They even took away jump dodge. Hell you can't even position most bosses anymore, the tank just takes a constant stream damage out of thin air.

I started this game around three years ago and have yet to beat ARR. I get to the part where you play the haunted house mission and just lose all desire to keep going.

Retail is just FFXIV but with a better combat and more singleplayer.

I already experienced 75-cap era XI, so Private doesn't interest me there. Retail XI is dead and is on literal maintenance mode. Only challenge to have in modern XI is either optimizing Sortie runs (which in turn gets tedious since people min-max'd the best routing + jobs for it), and doing V20+ Sheol.
Mentally ill trannies are so you starved they can't just keep themselves to their shitty containment threads on /vg/. They won't even answer questions about the game. It's just futa this, dick that, modbeast there and mental illness.
I know everything has been made easier but there is still blm, nin and mnk to keep you on your toes forever unlike all other jobs that become easy and boring over time.
So far blm is my favorite. Picked up nin to give it a try and the mudra shit keeps my brain active for now at least. But I am aware the fun might wear off when the muscle memory is in place.

I don't play them because they're easy, I play them because I like proc based skills and the overall aesthetic.
To me, it mixes it up from the monotonous 123 of most dps where they have a pretty cut and dry rotation.
The only thing hard about DRG is putting all the buttons on controller.
You have 32 easy slots while still leaving 16 for basic shit like sprint, mounts, etc.

If you want something that will complement the MSQ, I would say DRK. It's the one storyline in the game (apart from ShB) where the main moving point is WoL him/herself.
I think SMN would also be cool because it's fairly complete even at low levels, the story also parallels the MSQ a bit more and you get a free healer on top of it all.
If you don't like either, dunno, just go with whatever you like the gameplay of. Or maybe just imitate Meteor and pick up all the jobs he did along the story, but you'll have to catch up after every expansion and probably delay your progress.

the elementals are still insanely powerful relative to most other things on etheirys and they get worshipped by filthy humans so it's not all bad, it's more of a transition to being a spirit

Tbqh the vast majority of the designs have disappointed me. I already didn't like a good bunch of them, but on top of that most of them didn't translate well into the game (not counting any actual frickups on the modeler's side, like the katana suddenly being building sized) but the ones I didn't like went from meh to absolutely vomitive and the ones I did like went from cool to meh. Also I'm pretty sure someone mixed up the length of the katana with the length of the DRG lance, but it's hilariously tiny and also ruins an otherwise awesome design by simply being ridiculously undersized.
I still like the healers, the BLM one and the BRD one. Shame I don't play a single one of those jobs.

Actually I'm suggesting things that were already in the game that they took out.
You can stun Ifrit and Ifrit HM. You used to be able to use Holmgang to bind Titan facing forward while moving behind him, causing him to miss his mountain buster and silence him during his tumults to interrupt them in the last phase. You used to be able to tank landslides as black mage with manawall, since it doesn't knock you back if it doesn't do damage. Coil Turn 2 had multiple paths you could take resulting in different boss patterns or you could just tank enrage. Now they have knockbacks that go through the ability they have specifically to make you immune to knockback, or they stun you before the knockback. They even took away jump dodge. Hell you can't even position most bosses anymore, the tank just takes a constant stream damage out of thin air.

I already experienced 75-cap era XI, so Private doesn't interest me there. Retail XI is dead and is on literal maintenance mode. Only challenge to have in modern XI is either optimizing Sortie runs (which in turn gets tedious since people min-max'd the best routing + jobs for it), and doing V20+ Sheol.

If you want something that will complement the MSQ, I would say DRK. It's the one storyline in the game (apart from ShB) where the main moving point is WoL him/herself.
I think SMN would also be cool because it's fairly complete even at low levels, the story also parallels the MSQ a bit more and you get a free healer on top of it all.
If you don't like either, dunno, just go with whatever you like the gameplay of. Or maybe just imitate Meteor and pick up all the jobs he did along the story, but you'll have to catch up after every expansion and probably delay your progress.

Vast majority of the game is practically a solo game with how much story content there is, plus they've been going back and making it so you can do like 90% the main story stuff with NPCs instead of players. Probably one of the most beginner friendly MMOs out there in that regard.
XIV is a 10(13) yr old mmo originally made for PS3 whose main appeal is the story. That said, up to lvl 60 and the 1st expansion is free. Just download it and try it yourself.
