I'm willing to tolerate the low damage in non-savage content so that noobs aren't scared of healing. But why, fricking why do all healers need to have almost the exact same DPS rotation? Even tanks have significantly more variety. Fricking WAR feels advanced compared to healer DPS.
Let WHM keep the 30s DoT + Glare rotation since it has a reputation as entry-level
Give SCH back the multiple DoTs
Give SGE a builder/spender and some more use of Eukrasia (the #1 wasted potential button)
And give AST something different and interesting
Instead I'm just quitting healing because it's so boring.
DoT gameplay is absent, and DoTs keep being removed because they don't play well with burst windows and with bosses that have downtime (every ultimate aka the only place where balance matters). Healers do low damage anyway so if there's any place that they can get away with having DoTs it's there.
Also anything is better than Broil spam
Having to juggle even just 2 DoTs between heals would be a massive improvement on healer gameplay vs the fricking 1 button spam every healer is dealing with currently

I had a heal heavy group so I healed kinda like in ffxiv where I just used my big healing cds when needed and spot healed if needed (it rarely was). It never felt stale because I was chasing (lmao heroic) parses at the time and was regularly the number one hpriest for damage.
Compare that to ffxiv
Keep one dot, use one nuke. Literally less engaging than the kyrian ability where you at least use the other ability every 3rd gcd.
Let me explain why it will never happen with one picture.
If people wanted something other than 30 sec DoT+filler AST wouldn't be that far on the bottom.
The reason why no one is touching AST this time around is thanks to the devs literally announcing its rework 2 years in advance after gutting all of it's cool little idiosyncrasies completely in the expansion before it. AST is shit becuase the devs WANTS it to be shit right now, it's WoD warlock all over again but this time devs weren't dumb enough to outright say it

With just how samey the tanks are I don't know if I agree. Sure, tanks get a bit more stuff to keep them busy but after having played them all for a while you immediately notice just how samey not just they are but all Melees aswell. I can probably count all of the "unique" jobs on one hand (IMO): >DRK >MNK >BLM >DNC >NIN
The rest of the jobs all have atleast one other job that is so samey that they might aswell just be player cosmetic, this isn't to say that every job is exactly the same but that there is such a large overlap between them that it makes it hard to see the difference between them sometimes. The worst part is that the combat and stat systems are so stripped bare that there is literally nothing the devs can do to fix it unless they start reworking systems or adding extreme gimmicks to each job to compensate, so even if they wanted to change things they simply can't, it's what makes me wish that 7.0 is atleast the start of a complete 180 in some regards like no more level increases and no more job additions until they've unfricked what we currently have or if they somehow manage to unfrick the entire "limited job" schtick into being not shit since the game has been in a really dire state since the 5.0 reworks to both job design and to the way devs handle resource management.
We don't need to go back to what we had before but we have to move towards something else since current systems are at their breakingpoints, the game seems to have simply outgrown what the current devs can provide
Tha't why I said IMO, because I never said that it was fun or good, just that it was "unique" vs other jobs and their rotations. If I were in charge of job design I would includ actual fricking resource management as a part of DRKs kit, rewarding players with atleast 1 oGCD per GCD for a job well done. It would turn the job into the most fast-paced thing imaginable and it would be fun just because of the mental-stack overflow and still having to deal with mechanics while your brain starts melting out of your ears.

The more meaningful differences it used to have on shit like Dark Mind were a great thing to have.
Essetially flat 140 potency per cast was fricking dumb.
XIV will never be good again. You will never have kino fights like Nidhogg EX and Ravana EX again. You will never get to play jobs that don't feel hopelessly homogenized again. You will never hear Soken put in effort with his music again while Uematsu handles the main theme. You will never have an MSQ that is about adventure and hardship again, instead it's forever about the WoL being the super duper ancient reincarnation who talks to force ghosts of his ancient friends and never has to work for his goals and every bad guy is related to the ancients forever and ever. You will see more and more rewards go on the mog station, you will see less content added to the game, you will always have to live with the knowledge that SHB and EW killed this game.
I think the isue is that you could rather have some slice of life MSQ just hanging with the Scions (like 6.1 started) instead of setting this really trite excuse of a void plot, that completely ignores the void plot from The First post role quests, to get your "fight 4 trial monsters" plot.

I played a demo of it some years ago and it was a pleasant world with a relatively nice community. I'm sure it has its problems, but now that it has free play it seems like a nice world to enjoy.
This isn't the kind of game where its like "I really wish we had a X." All content has tanks and healer and sadly all tanks and healers are very similar. That being said, playing a healer in this game gives you and anyone you play with instant queues which is a benefit.
Is there anything I could devote myself to like fishing or crafting that would be beneficial to people even at higher levels?

Well the thing is that everyone in this game can level all the combat and crafting jobs on one character, so obviously most veteran have it all and are pretty self sufficient. I suppose if you wanted to be nice though you could focus on Culinarian and Alchemist and make people food and potions so that they don't have to themselves.

Anon, even assuming omincrafting you should have a frick ton of materia saved from extractions throughout leveling both DoW and DoH/L jobs. You ARE extracting materia from gear you use, right? The only time it should start being a major issue is Stormblood shit which by the time F2P get there they'd already have learned the first few times and prepared for it.
I have most jobs at 90 and don't remember thinking any of them weren't fun. They're not all equally as engaging but even something like SMN is still fun because even though the rotation is simple, the visual of summoning is really cool.
I play a lot of SMN, mainly when I want to go through a roulette and don't feel like putting any effort in the way I would for BLM. I like it better than I do the older iterations even if I think it's also so barebones that it's embarrassing it shipped out that way.
What the frick do you need optimal gear setup for, then? You either strive for BiS with that purpose in mind, or you get the crafted/token optimal and check out until next patch. Just don't whine and moan like a sopping c**t about it, nobody cares.
At that point you might remove the materia system since it does jack shit I feel. Put in Crit, if that isn't possible any more put in DH or Det.
I'd prefer if they did something interesting with it but I completely lost hope that the current dev team has any idea what they want to do with combat content.
Too bad materia is ultimately just watered down Diablo/WoW gems that can be stacked, imagine if we had the materia system of FF7 and all that shit that it could enable.

Piety has really had no place since they did the whole 10k MP thing anyway. And I miss TP. SkS/SpS stacking are mostly bad (I know they have use cases but for the most part) because they're so neutered without the limiting factors of TP/MP.
ARR dungeons are inferior to XI style dungeons but they at least tried back then. Hallway dungeons don't even attempt to be anything more than a daily chore whose only strong point is that they're over with quickly.

DNC is my main and I love it. Aesthetically pleasing, feels good using the overall kit, and it's just comfortable for me to play. There's a reason i own a jobstone necklace of it.
More than anything though, I'm having way more fun crafting and gathering. My current goal is getting these all up and working on splendor tools. Dunno how nightmare that grind will be, especially considering i intend to gear up via my own work instead of getting someone to craft me an i620 set, but I'm gonna enjoy it.

Red Mage. The rotation feels easier than black mage without being brain-dead like summoner, the mobility is nice, and it has one of the best aesthetics of any of the jobs.
To be fair, there's very little jobs that aren't braindead now. Kindof apprehensive on what DT will do, not only for what Jobs we already have, but if the new jobs will actually bring anything of worth to the table aside from just different visuals of already established abilities.

I thought so too for quite a while, but then you realize that 80% of the available gear is clearly more suited for BLM/SMN.
The problem is that optimizing jobs on a high level is absolutely not fun and mostly not intended. Shit like FPS locking is just pure autism. 'Normal' stuff like melee fishing for uptime also gets phased out at this point, and learning a piano opener really isn't difficult nor gives a job depth. The Jobs are made braindead so everyone can pick them up and just go learn the next encounter, because the DDR game is where all the difficulty is. Which is fine if you enjoy that kind of gameplay, but Endwalker fights had a lot of people just quit because that style is no fun. Put difficulty back to the job and away from inane mechanics.

Yes, this assumes noclippy. This is speedrun tier autismo, since it is based on the fact that the game waits for frames to start certain actions. So to optimize you have to lock your FPS at certain intervals to not lose a literal frame when waiting on a skill to come out. Like... it is entirely useless but since there is nothing else to do to get better at your class, ppl write this shit up. BLM has similar shit it can do.
Completely agree, the current meta of ddr fights is really unpleasant. Constant body checks also get tiresome.
The bosses don’t even feel threatening the same way they probably intend. There’s a guaranteed “dodge-heal-resolve” solution in mind for every boss ability cast. And now classes are built to match it, so the expression in personal play just evaporates.
Barbaricia was the best we got in EW end even that had you kill one other guy when you frick something up. Body checks are cancer, but it is either than or tight DPS checks, and since they really don't want other people to be able to carry we are where we are.
Used to be machinist but they ruined it. Than Ninja and ruined that too. Moved to Sam and they ruined that as well. Finally decided to pay a tank so I leveled PLD and they wrecked it.

It looks that way during primetime every day. Primal is dead as frick because everyone goes to Aether to play now. Not that you know because you don't actually play on Primal or know a single fricking thing about the situation you insist on butting yourself into because you have a religious devotion to this game and you have to kneejerk defend it against any perceived negativity.
I don't even know how they can fix this problem. Expansion launch will clear it up temporarily because of queues but once savage raids start up again everyone will just be back on Aether.
One of the biggest issues the game faces in terms of "community" and communication is how much of it is hosted outside of the game.
FCs, raid groups, casual groups, Hunts, Eureka, BA, Bozja, Ultimates. All of it.
I hate to be that c**t but Discord in general, specifically large public servers rather than much smaller individual groups, is mostly to blame. All of this shit used to require being in game and communicating with people to accomplish.
I miss sitting around Wineport/Mor Dhona/N.Than/N. Shroud etc. to find people for stuff and needing everybody in the same zone to queue. One's missing? Well you're going to have to fricking talk to them.
The original server restriced PF meant you still had to actually talk to people occassionnally since there's be a limited number of poeple.
DC PF is just post, inform discord, wait, say nothing to anybody and then queue when full for most all content.
It is genuinely soulless bullshit now.
Counterpoint: Despite Discord, Balmung was a pretty cozy server community. Yes you had a few sperges but you recognized people and you were able to do shit. Then came world and DC travel and the server is nigh unusable. Literal sex tourists just sperging out 24/7, fricking nightclub shit all over the place and people wanting to do content now flee to Aether, all magnifying the discord issues.

I'm EU so I have no valid input on how it affected NA. Although things like content monopolisation happened across the board which is another issue with large public servers.
With how monolithic Discord has become, the next large MMO should probably have Discord integrated from the start so that a lot of it is still contained within the game itself, at least in some form.
was a MCH main and our class got fricking kneecapped completely at shadowbringers and it just ruined the whole game for me. I'm okay with raids but 90% of playing through the game is through your class and losing AXTUALLY FUN wildfire for the stupid fricking Queen like the other anon said fricking nuked the class.

I played both, I fricking loved HW machinist and how ammo worked on it for being allowed to instashot vs casting and having reasons for when you wanted to gain ammo or not, as well as wildfire vs mildfire rotations were fun a bit especially with deaths involved. mch after StB was atleast somewhat still fun because wildfire booms are always fun but then wildfire gutted in addition to the charge shots removed and it was just way too frickn boring man. I guess good point on blue mage maybe lmfao, can I go through the whole story with it?

No, every single BLU thing the devs have done since its introduction has been pants on head moronic. To simplify, you are only allowed to do old world content and old dungeon/raid content, that's it. Their one saving grace that is the "Masked Carnival" is pretty much a one and done thing thanks to all of the rewards from it being complete shit, they could instantly fix this by having unique weapon models and glam only available through running old content with only BLUs and by adding a shop to the MC that sells minor benifits like EXP increase items, instant repair items, rare dyes, unique weapon models and maybe even crafting gear or straight up gil. They are never going to do any of it because the devs seems to just hate BLU and seems to wish that they never bothered with it
I fricking hated cast times on Machinist even if there were ways around it. Really, all I ever wanted was HW Machinist without cast times, I'd never play anything else.
The only bad thing about it was that you couldn't move at all during casts which made them feel like casters instead of immobile ranged. They should have just done the "move slower while casting" thing instead of outright remove it since that would pelase both parties. I've never seen anyone shit talk old MCH outside of cast times unless they were moronic since their old mechanics were fun to play around in every encounter that didn't immediately want you do drop shit to deal with mechanics.
Their largest problem were always the latency of the old extremely shit servers but since that has been fixed now there it literally nothing stopping YoshiP and crew from revisiting old design aspects and taking the best from that to carry forward into 7.0+

I'm not sure if they had the technical knowhow to even do that in HW but I only begrudgingly accept its presence in PvP for balance purposes. Ranged dps as it originated in Bard exist for the explicit purpose of being able to maintain full mobility while still being able to attack at range. HW Machinist was this a good 70-80% of the time (unlike Bard which was fricked) but still had unavoidable moments where you had to root yourself in place because you only get so much ammo. If I wanted my movement to be restricted I'd play a melee or a caster.

Or DNC, we desperatly need old MCH back since that is the only one that actually had fun mechanics to play around while old BRD is more or less still around but more shit nowadays. The devs doesn't seem to want to create another phys ranged so the 3 we have need some radical differences to feel special, DNC already has it's buffs, healing and dancing, BRD is in such a dire state that I'd argue that it needs a complete rework like the one SMN got (but hopefully made by a dev that won't completely butcher it) and MCH is just as bad as it's awlays been since they keep swinging from extreme to extreme with it instead of taking what actually worked with it before and making it better.
What I would like to see would be something like: >MCH becomes the immobile ranged again, working more or less like they did in HW but with some of the good aspects taken from current MCH PvP (like moving slowly while "casting") >BRD needs a complete rework and SHOULD be a mobile ranged but, remake them so that they are less are buff heavy than DNC, make them bring more enemy/encounter utility to compensate (Take the debuff from MCH and give it to BRD instead for example) >DNC is more or less as good as it's ever going to be, keep as is with only minor additions/changes to the job going forward

The devs strike me that they don't want to make new jobs, period. But it's something that they have to do in order to push expansions since they need something shiny to dangle in front of people to buy it.
I surmise that's likely why they wanted to test the waters with Limited Jobs. So they can say there's new jobs, but not really.

BRD is Semi-proc with a light / not really rotation and OGcds, DNC is proc based as frick with a semi-rotation, MCH is rotations with a short fast burst phase.
Honestly BRD went from the worst job ever as a DoT based proc job to what it is now. You ever pop Wanderer's Minuet and not get a single full power Pitch Perfect? Because I sure as frick had that experience back before they unfricked that job. Honestly DNC kind of took over the proc based bullshit BRD used to be but because it's not attached to DoTs it's wholly more tolerable.
I'm just happy they started porting some of the gameplay philosophy of other jobs to create semi-unique new ones, Reaper is basically a melee MCH since they have a "slow" rotation mixed with a fast paced low GCD section and Summoner, though not as good an example, has Garuda summons and faster GCDs.
With Corsair being a new ranged melee DPS what are the chances of them implementing PvP MCH stuff to pve?

To elaborate further, I've not seen a plugin that refreshes stuff you're selling automatically for you to be the lowest price. Otherwise I would have been using it.
Sometimes they are also underneath the ground like other bots are. Idle cam and it will usually wind up picking one of these molebots as its view target.
GW2 and FFXIV are funny games in that they seem to get almost the exact opposite things right/wrong across the board. A "merge" of the two would be basically the perfect MMO.

I don't even have a favourite job anymore. It was MNK once. They've killed everything I ever actually enjoyed about any of them and I've played them all since ARR.
Now there's just the jobs I'd rather play per role because they're the least shit to play for one reason or another.

Give me my ARR locomotive DoT/buff/debuff MNK, my DoT SMN, my leaky bowmage and the gunmage. Give me my actual cards and royal road AST, my efficiency and MP matters WHM, anything but ShB SCH and give us cleric stance.
Gigachad Decimate WAR, MP balance DRK, cover god PLD, give me the original GNB sound effects. I actually like the current BLM but give us the ARR utility and that MP give skill. Original RDM, this 50/50 gauge and Manafication giving 50/50 is kinda ass to force a burst phase for a 2m meta.
I want my original SAM, I want my gauge balance before geir DRG back. Give full combo branch NIN back and give evverybody their DoTs back.
The sad thing is, we could have all these and incorporate a lot of the added skills with little problem.
At this point in the game, the majority of players haven't actualy played any of the jobs when they were like that.
And the sad thing is, I think a lot of them weould actually enjoy those jobs. The people I meet and talk to in game these days don't seem to understand just how similarly all the jobs actually play now. They think job mechanic 1 is significantly different from job machanic 2 because they don't realise just how different they used to be.
I miss when compostition mattered, not just on your overall dps output potential.

There's just no reason for SMN to exist after BLM got buffed so much throughout this expansion. At least RDM can still be fun, SMN is fricking lobotomized.
I'm not really sure why they bother to completely redesign jobs each expansion when they're introducing at least 2 new jobs, reworking previous jobs, and have a job design team of ~4 people. They clearly weren't able to give SMN (or any redesign) the time and attention that they deserve.

The worse part is that XVI is just a mediocre and unremarkable game. It would sting a lot less knowing XIV was abandoned for something greater, not something less.
I liked Sil'dih since it was the first one and it was still new, but when Mount Rokkon released and it had the literal exact same structure as the first one I realized that they will never improve upon the concept. Any variant dungeons in the future are going to be just as formulaic as regular dungeons are which defeats the entire point to begin with.

The truth is they constantly change their templates for the worst, so even of something looks ok at first just know it will only get worse down the road.

I'm in a weird spot with XIV at the moment. I like progging savage as much as I always have, but I have no interest in reclears. The encounters feel like they solve themself and there's nothing to optimise, so I'm just going through motions on Tuesday and logging out for the week instead of eagerly jumping into PF over the weekend to do parse runs with some friends. I think more or less every melee job is at an "ok-ish" level of complexity, leaning on the simpler side for my tastes, but again the optimisation solves itself which sucks in reclears. Meanwhile I think all the ranged jobs save maybe BLM are kind of a disaster. It makes recruitment hell because no one wants to play ranged these days. This was a problem in ShB and it's twice as bad in EW. I'm not holding my breath for jobs to get more complex next expansion either.
Again I think savage prog is in a good state, I really enjoyed progging all tiers this expansion. As an aside I'm not a fan of the ultimates this xpack, especially TOP.

Only reason I would want TP or mana management back is to give certain jobs a niche again. It doesn't matter in fricking 4 man content and it won't break raider necks if you need a TP/MP refresher in the group. Wasn't that RangedDPS' thing back in ARR? I remember BRD songs and MCH turrets explicitly doing just that.
That was also why many fights had large breaks in the action as the boss does some giant attack or become untargetable. They literally built that regen time into the fights. And we STILL have that dead time in fights.
The damage penalty associated with Mage's/Army's was too high to use in a fight except under worst case scenarios and that should probably be alleviated a little bit if it were to be brought back.

Sure. Or maybe expand on the system a little, make it that the amount regenerated depends on the damage the class did before or something like that. There is a lot of design space to get stuff like that back, but I am pretty sure SE really doesn't want to touch it at all.

I main healer and I like new SMN, I could pick it up easily and it feels satisfying to play. I hope they make or rework a melee that plays like SMN, hopefully DRG since the aesthetic is cool.
When players know what they're doing Left becomes more akin to Right. Perhaps not a perfect replica but straight lines to and fro to the important bits are still straight lines.
If you played Classic WoW (or Vanilla for that matter) you'll know what I mean when you were leveling alts based off quest memory of your first play through. The mods that helped you level are a Free Space of exactly what I mean too.
Perhaps a more apt description is in order, chances are the bottom left area is a low level section with the purple tower being a slightly higher one. You could visit it right off the rip sure...but you'd die most likely, the same as if you went anywhere else on the map. So you scuttle around the pastures nearby questing until you gain a level or 2 then maybe some "difficult" quests to the tower before you're shipped off to the far right town where you repeat the process a few more times until the zone is cleared.
Honestly it's a pretty disingenuous map, half the damn lines lead out the fricking zone itself. Not to mention that you're going to be retreading brown lines on your way back to town to turn in quests and what not.
Neither of them are difficult, one of them simply has less backtracking.

The game doesn't lead itself to creating good video content. It's a bit too ridged and limited for it outside of guides, story overviews, and emote dance music videos.
Watching someone else play is the exact same as yourself or anyone else because most fights and mechanics play out the same way.
There isn't a lot of room for expression that popular tuber games have. Even if it's uninspired at this point 14 doesn't lead itself well for things like challenge runs, gimmick playstyles, showing off a cool play or game winning move, or something unexpected and cool happening.
I wish I could get autistic about something like I did with surf maps and rocket jumping and show off and do cool shit in 14 but the few neat tricks and gimmicks aren't around anymore. And weren't really that great to begin with.

Shield Bash is good in any content besides modern raids, Cover is still good situational utility despite the massive nerf it received in SHB. If you want either removed you need to have a nice day because you're the cancer that has already ruined most of the game.

It's not an exaggeration to say 5.2 and 5.3 had the worst balance the game has seen since HW, and it's still not that good now. All they did was overtune the weak jobs that were considered troll picks to become the meta jobs you're now trolling by not picking. Except RDM, that one has remained a trash job the whole expansion.
This is what really boils my piss, they've tried 3 expansions in a row now to remove everything from the game that makes it "hard to balance" to the point where a lot of actions are just re-animated versions of each other yet they STILL can't balance the game to the point where you can argue for it being better for the game in general. I'd honestly just want YoshiP to stop making ultimates entirely after the last shitshow addon drama we've had and instead just tell all raid autists to kys and tell the trannies in Limsa to learn how to play instead of dialling 8 in every single encounter and making it everyone elses problem. The balance IS bad which is un-fricking-acceptable when so much of the game has been removed at this point, the game literally has more cutscenes than gameplay by far now, even when you consider that the MSQ has always been 90% cutscenes, we've just reached a point where the cutscenes takes up 2x the time than actual gameplay does yet people keeps clapping whenever the devs keep making it worse while trying to defend themselves with "b-but my balance is hard!" making the poultry amount of "game" on offer even worse with every fricking rework and expansion

addon drama only applies to early clears, if you don't use cheats then keep it that way, you can't stop everyone from using cheats which is sad but clearing the fight with cheats is not an achievement and everyone knows it
i agree with everything else and i think that overbalancing the game was a mistake, i still enjoy it a lot and it still is one of my favorite games to play but i felt like sb had this distinction within jobs that made them all unique while also being viable, keyword here being viable
if a raid has a tight dps check that can only be cleared with a certain composition, like p8s was at first, then they shouldn't punish the jobs for that, instead they should make the dps check lenient and have it be clearable with good execution and not the comp

how drk is good for specific downtimes then i think that's preferable than having every job be good at that specific downtime because people complain that their job isn't allowed in parties, which is something that happened in heavensward but it's not something that happens all the time, just find another party

Scholar doesn't have much room for improvisation or reaction on the spot due to the numbers of skills the player has to press to get the big shield or mitigation to the party, it is only rewarding when the player and the party already know the fight. I know the Aesthetics looks kinda shit but I don't care, it's about what it is rather than looks like and lets you do. I agree. I have way more fun healing random roulettes with terrible players who constantly frick up than with any recent high-end fight (except P10S prog I guess). The fact that every fight and damage rotation is fully scripted makes things really dull, particularly for healers who are just repeatedly pressing one button 80% of the time.

DoT gameplay is absent, and DoTs keep being removed because they don't play well with burst windows and with bosses that have downtime (every ultimate aka the only place where balance matters). Healers do low damage anyway so if there's any place that they can get away with having DoTs it's there.

I had a heal heavy group so I healed kinda like in ffxiv where I just used my big healing cds when needed and spot healed if needed (it rarely was). It never felt stale because I was chasing (lmao heroic) parses at the time and was regularly the number one hpriest for damage.
Compare that to ffxiv
Keep one dot, use one nuke. Literally less engaging than the kyrian ability where you at least use the other ability every 3rd gcd.

With just how samey the tanks are I don't know if I agree. Sure, tanks get a bit more stuff to keep them busy but after having played them all for a while you immediately notice just how samey not just they are but all Melees aswell. I can probably count all of the "unique" jobs on one hand (IMO):

The rest of the jobs all have atleast one other job that is so samey that they might aswell just be player cosmetic, this isn't to say that every job is exactly the same but that there is such a large overlap between them that it makes it hard to see the difference between them sometimes. The worst part is that the combat and stat systems are so stripped bare that there is literally nothing the devs can do to fix it unless they start reworking systems or adding extreme gimmicks to each job to compensate, so even if they wanted to change things they simply can't, it's what makes me wish that 7.0 is atleast the start of a complete 180 in some regards like no more level increases and no more job additions until they've unfricked what we currently have or if they somehow manage to unfrick the entire "limited job" schtick into being not shit since the game has been in a really dire state since the 5.0 reworks to both job design and to the way devs handle resource management.
We don't need to go back to what we had before but we have to move towards something else since current systems are at their breakingpoints, the game seems to have simply outgrown what the current devs can provide

This isn't the kind of game where its like "I really wish we had a X." All content has tanks and healer and sadly all tanks and healers are very similar. That being said, playing a healer in this game gives you and anyone you play with instant queues which is a benefit.

Well the thing is that everyone in this game can level all the combat and crafting jobs on one character, so obviously most veteran have it all and are pretty self sufficient. I suppose if you wanted to be nice though you could focus on Culinarian and Alchemist and make people food and potions so that they don't have to themselves.

I have most jobs at 90 and don't remember thinking any of them weren't fun. They're not all equally as engaging but even something like SMN is still fun because even though the rotation is simple, the visual of summoning is really cool.
I play a lot of SMN, mainly when I want to go through a roulette and don't feel like putting any effort in the way I would for BLM. I like it better than I do the older iterations even if I think it's also so barebones that it's embarrassing it shipped out that way.

The problem is that optimizing jobs on a high level is absolutely not fun and mostly not intended. Shit like FPS locking is just pure autism. 'Normal' stuff like melee fishing for uptime also gets phased out at this point, and learning a piano opener really isn't difficult nor gives a job depth. The Jobs are made braindead so everyone can pick them up and just go learn the next encounter, because the DDR game is where all the difficulty is. Which is fine if you enjoy that kind of gameplay, but Endwalker fights had a lot of people just quit because that style is no fun. Put difficulty back to the job and away from inane mechanics.

Yes, this assumes noclippy. This is speedrun tier autismo, since it is based on the fact that the game waits for frames to start certain actions. So to optimize you have to lock your FPS at certain intervals to not lose a literal frame when waiting on a skill to come out. Like... it is entirely useless but since there is nothing else to do to get better at your class, ppl write this shit up. BLM has similar shit it can do.

The bosses don’t even feel threatening the same way they probably intend. There’s a guaranteed “dodge-heal-resolve” solution in mind for every boss ability cast. And now classes are built to match it, so the expression in personal play just evaporates.
Barbaricia was the best we got in EW end even that had you kill one other guy when you frick something up. Body checks are cancer, but it is either than or tight DPS checks, and since they really don't want other people to be able to carry we are where we are.

DC travel was a mistake. Frick, even world travel was a mistake for the damage it did to hunts.

One of the biggest issues the game faces in terms of "community" and communication is how much of it is hosted outside of the game.
FCs, raid groups, casual groups, Hunts, Eureka, BA, Bozja, Ultimates. All of it.
I hate to be that c**t but Discord in general, specifically large public servers rather than much smaller individual groups, is mostly to blame. All of this shit used to require being in game and communicating with people to accomplish.
I miss sitting around Wineport/Mor Dhona/N.Than/N. Shroud etc. to find people for stuff and needing everybody in the same zone to queue. One's missing? Well you're going to have to fricking talk to them.
The original server restriced PF meant you still had to actually talk to people occassionnally since there's be a limited number of poeple.
DC PF is just post, inform discord, wait, say nothing to anybody and then queue when full for most all content.
It is genuinely soulless bullshit now.
Counterpoint: Despite Discord, Balmung was a pretty cozy server community. Yes you had a few sperges but you recognized people and you were able to do shit. Then came world and DC travel and the server is nigh unusable. Literal sex tourists just sperging out 24/7, fricking nightclub shit all over the place and people wanting to do content now flee to Aether, all magnifying the discord issues.
I'm EU so I have no valid input on how it affected NA. Although things like content monopolisation happened across the board which is another issue with large public servers.
With how monolithic Discord has become, the next large MMO should probably have Discord integrated from the start so that a lot of it is still contained within the game itself, at least in some form.

I played both, I fricking loved HW machinist and how ammo worked on it for being allowed to instashot vs casting and having reasons for when you wanted to gain ammo or not, as well as wildfire vs mildfire rotations were fun a bit especially with deaths involved. mch after StB was atleast somewhat still fun because wildfire booms are always fun but then wildfire gutted in addition to the charge shots removed and it was just way too frickn boring man. I guess good point on blue mage maybe lmfao, can I go through the whole story with it?

No, every single BLU thing the devs have done since its introduction has been pants on head moronic. For a few of the actual fun things you are no allowed to do:

>You are not allowed to access Eureka/Bozja or any content associated with either

To simplify, you are only allowed to do old world content and old dungeon/raid content, that's it. Their one saving grace that is the "Masked Carnival" is pretty much a one and done thing thanks to all of the rewards from it being complete shit, they could instantly fix this by having unique weapon models and glam only available through running old content with only BLUs and by adding a shop to the MC that sells minor benifits like EXP increase items, instant repair items, rare dyes, unique weapon models and maybe even crafting gear or straight up gil. They are never going to do any of it because the devs seems to just hate BLU and seems to wish that they never bothered with it

The only bad thing about it was that you couldn't move at all during casts which made them feel like casters instead of immobile ranged. They should have just done the "move slower while casting" thing instead of outright remove it since that would pelase both parties. I've never seen anyone shit talk old MCH outside of cast times unless they were moronic since their old mechanics were fun to play around in every encounter that didn't immediately want you do drop shit to deal with mechanics.
Their largest problem were always the latency of the old extremely shit servers but since that has been fixed now there it literally nothing stopping YoshiP and crew from revisiting old design aspects and taking the best from that to carry forward into 7.0+

I'm not sure if they had the technical knowhow to even do that in HW but I only begrudgingly accept its presence in PvP for balance purposes. Ranged dps as it originated in Bard exist for the explicit purpose of being able to maintain full mobility while still being able to attack at range. HW Machinist was this a good 70-80% of the time (unlike Bard which was fricked) but still had unavoidable moments where you had to root yourself in place because you only get so much ammo. If I wanted my movement to be restricted I'd play a melee or a caster.

Or DNC, we desperatly need old MCH back since that is the only one that actually had fun mechanics to play around while old BRD is more or less still around but more shit nowadays. The devs doesn't seem to want to create another phys ranged so the 3 we have need some radical differences to feel special, DNC already has it's buffs, healing and dancing, BRD is in such a dire state that I'd argue that it needs a complete rework like the one SMN got (but hopefully made by a dev that won't completely butcher it) and MCH is just as bad as it's awlays been since they keep swinging from extreme to extreme with it instead of taking what actually worked with it before and making it better.
What I would like to see would be something like:

The devs strike me that they don't want to make new jobs, period. But it's something that they have to do in order to push expansions since they need something shiny to dangle in front of people to buy it.
I surmise that's likely why they wanted to test the waters with Limited Jobs. So they can say there's new jobs, but not really.

Honestly BRD went from the worst job ever as a DoT based proc job to what it is now. You ever pop Wanderer's Minuet and not get a single full power Pitch Perfect? Because I sure as frick had that experience back before they unfricked that job. Honestly DNC kind of took over the proc based bullshit BRD used to be but because it's not attached to DoTs it's wholly more tolerable.
I'm just happy they started porting some of the gameplay philosophy of other jobs to create semi-unique new ones, Reaper is basically a melee MCH since they have a "slow" rotation mixed with a fast paced low GCD section and Summoner, though not as good an example, has Garuda summons and faster GCDs.

At this point in the game, the majority of players haven't actualy played any of the jobs when they were like that.
And the sad thing is, I think a lot of them weould actually enjoy those jobs. The people I meet and talk to in game these days don't seem to understand just how similarly all the jobs actually play now. They think job mechanic 1 is significantly different from job machanic 2 because they don't realise just how different they used to be.
I miss when compostition mattered, not just on your overall dps output potential.

I'm not really sure why they bother to completely redesign jobs each expansion when they're introducing at least 2 new jobs, reworking previous jobs, and have a job design team of ~4 people. They clearly weren't able to give SMN (or any redesign) the time and attention that they deserve.

I liked Sil'dih since it was the first one and it was still new, but when Mount Rokkon released and it had the literal exact same structure as the first one I realized that they will never improve upon the concept. Any variant dungeons in the future are going to be just as formulaic as regular dungeons are which defeats the entire point to begin with.

And I still prefer just doing fast mage over the autism full non-standard. I just incorporate that shit in where I have opportunity instead. Capitalising on opprotunity fits better, I think.
I'm in a weird spot with XIV at the moment. I like progging savage as much as I always have, but I have no interest in reclears. The encounters feel like they solve themself and there's nothing to optimise, so I'm just going through motions on Tuesday and logging out for the week instead of eagerly jumping into PF over the weekend to do parse runs with some friends. I think more or less every melee job is at an "ok-ish" level of complexity, leaning on the simpler side for my tastes, but again the optimisation solves itself which sucks in reclears. Meanwhile I think all the ranged jobs save maybe BLM are kind of a disaster. It makes recruitment hell because no one wants to play ranged these days. This was a problem in ShB and it's twice as bad in EW. I'm not holding my breath for jobs to get more complex next expansion either.
Again I think savage prog is in a good state, I really enjoyed progging all tiers this expansion. As an aside I'm not a fan of the ultimates this xpack, especially TOP.

Before EW came out, I wanted the mounts to be nautilus since their shells have the same shape as a lot of Sharlayan decorations (and the aetheryte).

Only reason I would want TP or mana management back is to give certain jobs a niche again. It doesn't matter in fricking 4 man content and it won't break raider necks if you need a TP/MP refresher in the group. Wasn't that RangedDPS' thing back in ARR? I remember BRD songs and MCH turrets explicitly doing just that.
That was also why many fights had large breaks in the action as the boss does some giant attack or become untargetable. They literally built that regen time into the fights. And we STILL have that dead time in fights.
The damage penalty associated with Mage's/Army's was too high to use in a fight except under worst case scenarios and that should probably be alleviated a little bit if it were to be brought back.

If you played Classic WoW (or Vanilla for that matter) you'll know what I mean when you were leveling alts based off quest memory of your first play through. The mods that helped you level are a Free Space of exactly what I mean too.
Perhaps a more apt description is in order, chances are the bottom left area is a low level section with the purple tower being a slightly higher one. You could visit it right off the rip sure...but you'd die most likely, the same as if you went anywhere else on the map. So you scuttle around the pastures nearby questing until you gain a level or 2 then maybe some "difficult" quests to the tower before you're shipped off to the far right town where you repeat the process a few more times until the zone is cleared.
Honestly it's a pretty disingenuous map, half the damn lines lead out the fricking zone itself. Not to mention that you're going to be retreading brown lines on your way back to town to turn in quests and what not.
Neither of them are difficult, one of them simply has less backtracking.

The game doesn't lead itself to creating good video content. It's a bit too ridged and limited for it outside of guides, story overviews, and emote dance music videos.
Watching someone else play is the exact same as yourself or anyone else because most fights and mechanics play out the same way.
There isn't a lot of room for expression that popular tuber games have. Even if it's uninspired at this point 14 doesn't lead itself well for things like challenge runs, gimmick playstyles, showing off a cool play or game winning move, or something unexpected and cool happening.
I wish I could get autistic about something like I did with surf maps and rocket jumping and show off and do cool shit in 14 but the few neat tricks and gimmicks aren't around anymore. And weren't really that great to begin with.

This is what really boils my piss, they've tried 3 expansions in a row now to remove everything from the game that makes it "hard to balance" to the point where a lot of actions are just re-animated versions of each other yet they STILL can't balance the game to the point where you can argue for it being better for the game in general. DRK was still leagues ahead of other tanks where every clear for the first couple months had one DRK, RDM in EW in general, but you're right that it was mostly carry-over from 6.2 which was much worse with WAR, PLD, RPR, MCH, and RDM being locked out of P8S PF or asked to change for statics.

I'm not shitting on the ultimate content for being unbalanced, I'm shitting on it for not being worth the fricking effort to play or make thanks to addon drama. The balance IS bad which is un-fricking-acceptable when so much of the game has been removed at this point, the game literally has more cutscenes than gameplay by far now, even when you consider that the MSQ has always been 90% cutscenes, we've just reached a point where the cutscenes takes up 2x the time than actual gameplay does yet people keeps clapping whenever the devs keep making it worse while trying to defend themselves with "b-but my balance is hard!" making the poultry amount of "game" on offer even worse with every fricking rework and expansion
addon drama only applies to early clears, if you don't use cheats then keep it that way, you can't stop everyone from using cheats which is sad but clearing the fight with cheats is not an achievement and everyone knows it
i agree with everything else and i think that overbalancing the game was a mistake, i still enjoy it a lot and it still is one of my favorite games to play but i felt like sb had this distinction within jobs that made them all unique while also being viable, keyword here being viable
if a raid has a tight dps check that can only be cleared with a certain composition, like p8s was at first, then they shouldn't punish the jobs for that, instead they should make the dps check lenient and have it be clearable with good execution and not the comp
if you have different jobs that excel at different windows and under certain scenarios like
how drk is good for specific downtimes then i think that's preferable than having every job be good at that specific downtime because people complain that their job isn't allowed in parties, which is something that happened in heavensward but it's not something that happens all the time, just find another party
the fights need to lend themselves to the jobs and not the other way around but what can you expect out of a team that does the fights in god mode and then adjust upwards?

Scholar doesn't have much room for improvisation or reaction on the spot due to the numbers of skills the player has to press to get the big shield or mitigation to the party, it is only rewarding when the player and the party already know the fight. Sage right now just straight out replaces them, I barely have seen a scholar since the start of endwalker.
