If you want to see the worst mountains in FFXIV, go to Lakeland in Shadowbringers, fly southwest from Fort Jobb until you can just begin to see the lake, and then start looking around. They re-used the same pillar+arch tile pieces at *least* 30-40 times in that zone, including countless right next to each other. Whoever was responsible for Lakeland needs to have their hands beat with a wooden ruler.

the devs think pld having niche skills like cover and shield bash are worth not having as many real defensives as other tanks which make them a poor choice to actually tank, and having a ranged phase is worth the tradeoff of consistently having the lowest damage of all tanks, when content is designed for 2 tanks in melee range ANYWAY making them a poor choice for literally everything

One nice thing about no specializations or talent trees, and gear being a static BiS rather than having meaningful choices is that the game can be balanced easily in a way where every job is viable and pulling its weight. WoW has had long periods of time where certain specs were unwanted even if it was your favorite, and that doesn't really happen in FFXIV. It's worse for the autists that love min/maxing and figuring out the best compositions for fights (i'm one of those autists), but better for the party finder and accessibility of any random player getting into groups playing what they want.

the shed only exists because the the disparity is too large. there will always exist a point where pure damage is just so high that it overpowers any utility, it lies somewhere between 0 damage and 1shotting the boss. the job of the devs is to figure out where that point is so that it is only slightly above or below other unique utility. it’s ok to have some disparity, a small one is perfectly acceptable

And the way those devs do that job, because they're not infallible math gods with infinite data, is to make number changes that "feel right" (read: more or less at random) and see how it plays out in practice, with the answer to that always being shed-in-shed-out. It should be obvious from the fact that gameplay balance continues to be such an extreme problem industry-wide that "just tweaking numbers until they're equal" doesn't work in practice.

Holiday shit is another problem - 1 new thing per holiday for free ,but all old shit you may have missed, better pay! I'd accept a compromise here that it could be pay when off season, but when the event came round again you could unlock all the holiday items new and old, with in game event currency. Another issue is all the stuff connected to physical items that are no longer available like artbooks or soundtracks or whatever the frick. If you want a minion of that Stormblood lady with the kiseru pipe well go frick yourself because unless you bought whatever stormblood era artbook that's now out of print, you can't get a code for one. Same with other stuff. Frick this nonsense. I'd easily pay TWICE the subscription price per month if it meant that all the cosmetic items were included (exceptions made for fan fest, collector's edition etc.. or other stuff like that BUT they should be handled like Collector's Edition/Deluxe items and be available to upgrade any time).

HOWEVER I'm slightly more okay with it being at least something of a grind for a CURRENT EXPANSION RELIC as opposed to PAST SHIT USED FOR GLAMOUR. ARR/HW and everything else now are just for aesthetics and old content, they're outdated - there's no reason they should not be more accessible and less tedious, as well as better designed. Now the EW relics should be better designed and not tedious - I think ALL Relics need a "You get one the long way, all the others are 90% less work with an alternate path somehow" feature option. - but at least EW will be likely best-in-slot and a new aesthetic, based on current content, so functional not just aesthetic. Don't want them to shit up EW, but they need to fix ARR/HW and all the past ones even more so now. There's no argument not to except the bucket crab "I had to do it the hard way and lose my fricking mind 8 years ago so now you do too" nonsense.
It was meant to be grindy back when there was much less content and nothing else to do. That is no longer the case. The game has evolved in other ways - you can turn in GC seals and get mounts or minions that were rare drop from EX trials and other high end content. There are other avenues to unlock certain stuff etc.
There is no excuse for needless tedium. Even as they were designed back then there could have been improvements, but especially now. It doesn't feel epic, it feels tedious and grindy. It should evolve along with the rest. Same with things like Beast Tribes (ie make "old" beast tribe quests give more faction, ensure the 12-quest-limit per day only applies to current expansion tribes etc) . You can make something take effort without being stupidly tedious, and something from many expansions ago now used for aesthetics should not be the same as when it was best in slot generating. Not to mention there's no "epicness" to having to repeat the same damn tedious extent for every fricking job. Once you unlock one Relic of an era maxed out, there should be a way to get a maxed out versions for other jobs alternately.
They turned the PvP in this game from passable to dogshit with the new rework. Ranking in the top 100 of the Feast in your data center used to give you some of the most exclusive, prestigious, and sought after armors and mounts the game has to offer. Generally only a few hundred are allowed these rewards and the new rework straight up gives new armors or mounts that should've been the top 100 reward instead to casuals. If they ever bring back old sets or mounts I can guarantee the Feast players who earned those rewards through hard effort in their respective seasons will not be happy.

I can agree that if they brought back the armor sets it would be pretty annoying but saying they were achieved through hard effort is a bit of a stretch. It was just kinda sweaty.
Giving the least played and rated lowest for overall enjoyment game mode the only way to get higher quality versions of older gear was a massive fricking mistake. Literally just cut pvp from the game at this point.
1 Dungeon per patch is garbage.
Should have been 2 then 1 like they did for Stormblood, makes Expert mode dull when you're just running the newest one. Hard mode dungeons were what I looked forward to the most because it was fun going through a dungeons alternate route or seeing the after math if something was going down.
The only reason I played the game was because of my friends. The only difficulty in the game comes from most people not being able to do their rotations and people not being able to dodge red circles, as well as most content being very easy until you get to endgame - suddenly almost being treated as an adult is a surprise and makes it seem a lot harder than it is. Crafting is worthless. The economy is worthless. Anything you could ask for another player for is worthless, unless you're struggling to get a group together for content - because everything with value is untradeable and comes from content or traded from npcs.
There are lots of things to do, but most of them aren't very fun and not all of them help you in the very linear gear progression. Instead of playing minigames or snoring through dungeons and raids with my friends, I'd rather get FFXIV over and done with and play actual games

Wow used to go by MAU which is monthly active user, if you want to go by that number it means someone who played the game at least once a month, that's where you will find millions of players, or you go buy number of people paying for the service (~5 million) that's where you'll find millions of players. If you want to go to by concurrent numbers, wow's daily peak is probably a bit higher than lost ark but I doubt they hit 1 million concurrent.

Savage needs isolated balancing and skillsets like PvP has. The focus on sterile raidBlack person balancing comes at a detriment to the rest of the game.

Paladin has its weird rotation with the magic phase and the defensive abilities nobody uses, Gunbreaker has its cartridge weaves, and those two feel rather distinct from one another, meanwhile Warrior/Dark Knight have the similar meter management system but Warrior has the absurdly useful healing factor built into its mitigation that DRK doesn't. Things like that.

I kind of like this game but the lack of trait/skill customisation in the game is a bit off putting. and also the fact that crafting professions are handled exactly the same as classes is just weird to me.
I love the game for it's animations and emotes though. Is ESO better? at this point thats the only one I havent tried yet. What im looking for is deep character customization really so you can make the class your own in terms of talents

The trailer clearly showing Scarmiglione doing a big cinematic attack makes it seem pretty obvious it's not just a dungeon boss, so he's probably the trial. But then why keep the trial secret still? Is it literally just to hide the worst secret ever that he comes back?

If it isn't designed for raidgays it's ERP content. Where's some actual fun dungeons or designed to be fun on replay midcore content. I can still replay left 4 dead with friends and have a great time, but replaying a dungeon in FF is always fricking boring.

Stat checks needing certain ilvl has nothing to do with the difficulty of the combat.
Whenever someone says that "Gear sucks" it's because they moronic overpowered procs on items and trinkets that make or break your class that everyone will fight over after the kill.
They just want the illusion of choice. Googling the best build. Or ideally, having a set of options with the obvious correct choice and then wrong and useless ones next to it. You never actually have to manage your mana if you just press Lucid whenever its up. The only time its an issue is when you or your party is dying, which is to punish you if you want to use verraise.

To be perfectly honest, I have 99 totems on Endsinger extreme and I STILL don't understand how the 5Head mechanic works but I can clear it because all it takes is one person in the party to know how it works and you follow them. 50% of the time I don't remember the order of the planet explosion rewinding during the end of the fight and I can tell from almost every party finder there are at least 2-3 other people the same as me. But again, we just follow the leader.
So mechanics wise in a vaccum, if every person had to learn and understand how each works, it is pretty hard to solve.

Rewind flares are no problem, just remember clock spot or stack. When the same mechanic is applied externally? Brain doesn't work.
So yoshi saying Endsinger extreme was hard in partly because he knows people's brains don't work the same way. Same way I have trouble internalizing how mechanics work for certain parts of certain fights, the opposite can happen where I talk with someone else who constantly has issues with a different thing in another or the same fight.

What even is the core game anymore? Do dungeon for tomes and gear then raid and sell on market for island stuff while doing Eureka then Bozja and Ultimate booklet with line up four with Vermillion side things and S-rank hunt while FATE grinding for gem per area on the lookout for Landscape points and aether currents while the DF timer ticks away and Ultimate is coming up and melding the Crit and DH materia to the other set while crafting for next tier but you have to miner for a while but Potion and your FC calls you and they want to grind for mounts because there's a big mount of you get the other four mounts.

Explaining mechanics is easy actually executing it is different and takes multiple wipes if you haven't practiced it beforehand. So joining an Act 4 party when you haven't done Act 2 and 3 is just wasting 7 other people's time.
If to clear content all you needed was the explanation sans execution, then everyone could watch a video guide ONCE and clear the fight in the first pull.

I agree. Not sure how it is in NA but in EU people make specific parties for just that. It's common to see "learning party, helpers welcome" or "learning party, 1 cleared already", where you join and the guy who cleared explains the fight for the rest so you can prog faster.
What's dumb is joining a "clear party" or one for a specific mechanic, when you haven't actually gotten that far into the fight yourself. Joining a party that's like 1 mechanic ahead is fine, 2 or more and you just risk wasting people's time while you catch up. The issue is there are a lot of morons that don't bother reading PF descriptions.

Ok you seem genuine so I don't want to be mean but you can't expect random people to cater to your needs. You need to come to an understanding together. Doing old savages in PF is perfectly possible just be clear with your intentions and if you want to make the rules make your own parties.
The vast majority of players in the game are normies and casuals, they won't kick you for fricking up in a dungeon unless you are intentionally being obtuse or griefing. They won't even kick you in savage parties if you join appropriate learning parties.
And lastly if you want the luxury of FC then you have to put in the work in finding people you vibe with, or just join one of the edgy 4chin ones on your DC.
Basically all your problems are not with the game but with you, in other words you do have the ability to enjoy the game if you, to use your words, apply yourself.

nah I think your fricked. The scaling is insane after rank 20 or so. Its like 10-15 matches per rank. They bait you in with fast early rewards but you really do have the grind if you want the armor set.
You get 700 for a loss, and only 900 for a win. And wouldn't you know it... losing is much quicker than winning, as pure chance would have it. Why, it might even be possible to lose in under a couple minutes if things went badly enough for your team.

If you want to see the worst mountains in FFXIV, go to Lakeland in Shadowbringers, fly southwest from Fort Jobb until you can just begin to see the lake, and then start looking around. They re-used the same pillar+arch tile pieces at *least* 30-40 times in that zone, including countless right next to each other. Whoever was responsible for Lakeland needs to have their hands beat with a wooden ruler.

One nice thing about no specializations or talent trees, and gear being a static BiS rather than having meaningful choices is that the game can be balanced easily in a way where every job is viable and pulling its weight. WoW has had long periods of time where certain specs were unwanted even if it was your favorite, and that doesn't really happen in FFXIV. It's worse for the autists that love min/maxing and figuring out the best compositions for fights (i'm one of those autists), but better for the party finder and accessibility of any random player getting into groups playing what they want.

Whack-a-mole balance doesn't really work in games where there's meaningful difference in choices. It just results in shuffling around what is and isn't in the shed.
the shed only exists because the the disparity is too large. there will always exist a point where pure damage is just so high that it overpowers any utility, it lies somewhere between 0 damage and 1shotting the boss. the job of the devs is to figure out where that point is so that it is only slightly above or below other unique utility. it’s ok to have some disparity, a small one is perfectly acceptable
And the way those devs do that job, because they're not infallible math gods with infinite data, is to make number changes that "feel right" (read: more or less at random) and see how it plays out in practice, with the answer to that always being shed-in-shed-out. It should be obvious from the fact that gameplay balance continues to be such an extreme problem industry-wide that "just tweaking numbers until they're equal" doesn't work in practice.
considering the autists at the balance can map out edps in a day while also having real life jobs, i don’t see why it would take actual professionals even less time to theorycraft the changes they make. it doesn’t have to be perfect, just not random like you claim

Another issue is all the stuff connected to physical items that are no longer available like artbooks or soundtracks or whatever the frick. If you want a minion of that Stormblood lady with the kiseru pipe well go frick yourself because unless you bought whatever stormblood era artbook that's now out of print, you can't get a code for one. Same with other stuff. Frick this nonsense. I'd easily pay TWICE the subscription price per month if it meant that all the cosmetic items were included (exceptions made for fan fest, collector's edition etc.. or other stuff like that BUT they should be handled like Collector's Edition/Deluxe items and be available to upgrade any time).

ARR/HW and everything else now are just for aesthetics and old content, they're outdated - there's no reason they should not be more accessible and less tedious, as well as better designed. Now the EW relics should be better designed and not tedious - I think ALL Relics need a "You get one the long way, all the others are 90% less work with an alternate path somehow" feature option. - but at least EW will be likely best-in-slot and a new aesthetic, based on current content, so functional not just aesthetic. Don't want them to shit up EW, but they need to fix ARR/HW and all the past ones even more so now. There's no argument not to except the bucket crab "I had to do it the hard way and lose my fricking mind 8 years ago so now you do too" nonsense.

It was meant to be grindy back when there was much less content and nothing else to do. That is no longer the case. The game has evolved in other ways - you can turn in GC seals and get mounts or minions that were rare drop from EX trials and other high end content. There are other avenues to unlock certain stuff etc.
There is no excuse for needless tedium. Even as they were designed back then there could have been improvements, but especially now. It doesn't feel epic, it feels tedious and grindy. It should evolve along with the rest. Same with things like Beast Tribes (ie make "old" beast tribe quests give more faction, ensure the 12-quest-limit per day only applies to current expansion tribes etc) . You can make something take effort without being stupidly tedious, and something from many expansions ago now used for aesthetics should not be the same as when it was best in slot generating. Not to mention there's no "epicness" to having to repeat the same damn tedious extent for every fricking job. Once you unlock one Relic of an era maxed out, there should be a way to get a maxed out versions for other jobs alternately.

They turned the PvP in this game from passable to dogshit with the new rework. Ranking in the top 100 of the Feast in your data center used to give you some of the most exclusive, prestigious, and sought after armors and mounts the game has to offer. Generally only a few hundred are allowed these rewards and the new rework straight up gives new armors or mounts that should've been the top 100 reward instead to casuals. If they ever bring back old sets or mounts I can guarantee the Feast players who earned those rewards through hard effort in their respective seasons will not be happy.

Most content in XIV is accessible to everyone, no matter how bad. It's not a serious mmo, it's a literal kids game.
1 Dungeon per patch is garbage.
Should have been 2 then 1 like they did for Stormblood, makes Expert mode dull when you're just running the newest one. Hard mode dungeons were what I looked forward to the most because it was fun going through a dungeons alternate route or seeing the after math if something was going down.

Crafting is worthless. The economy is worthless. Anything you could ask for another player for is worthless, unless you're struggling to get a group together for content - because everything with value is untradeable and comes from content or traded from npcs.
There are lots of things to do, but most of them aren't very fun and not all of them help you in the very linear gear progression. Instead of playing minigames or snoring through dungeons and raids with my friends, I'd rather get FFXIV over and done with and play actual games

Paladin has its weird rotation with the magic phase and the defensive abilities nobody uses, Gunbreaker has its cartridge weaves, and those two feel rather distinct from one another, meanwhile Warrior/Dark Knight have the similar meter management system but Warrior has the absurdly useful healing factor built into its mitigation that DRK doesn't. Things like that.

for me personally, island sanctuary is not something i predict will be very interesting. i'll try it. but i don't think i'll like it. the point of the game for me is the story content and the raid content.

To be perfectly honest, I have 99 totems on Endsinger extreme and I STILL don't understand how the 5Head mechanic works but I can clear it because all it takes is one person in the party to know how it works and you follow them. 50% of the time I don't remember the order of the planet explosion rewinding during the end of the fight and I can tell from almost every party finder there are at least 2-3 other people the same as me. But again, we just follow the leader.
So mechanics wise in a vaccum, if every person had to learn and understand how each works, it is pretty hard to solve.

Rewind flares are no problem, just remember clock spot or stack. When the same mechanic is applied externally? Brain doesn't work.

Same way I have trouble internalizing how mechanics work for certain parts of certain fights, the opposite can happen where I talk with someone else who constantly has issues with a different thing in another or the same fight.

Do dungeon for tomes and gear then raid and sell on market for island stuff while doing Eureka then Bozja and Ultimate booklet with line up four with Vermillion side things and S-rank hunt while FATE grinding for gem per area on the lookout for Landscape points and aether currents while the DF timer ticks away and Ultimate is coming up and melding the Crit and DH materia to the other set while crafting for next tier but you have to miner for a while but Potion and your FC calls you and they want to grind for mounts because there's a big mount of you get the other four mounts.

Explaining mechanics is easy actually executing it is different and takes multiple wipes if you haven't practiced it beforehand. So joining an Act 4 party when you haven't done Act 2 and 3 is just wasting 7 other people's time.
If to clear content all you needed was the explanation sans execution, then everyone could watch a video guide ONCE and clear the fight in the first pull.

I agree. Not sure how it is in NA but in EU people make specific parties for just that. It's common to see "learning party, helpers welcome" or "learning party, 1 cleared already", where you join and the guy who cleared explains the fight for the rest so you can prog faster.
What's dumb is joining a "clear party" or one for a specific mechanic, when you haven't actually gotten that far into the fight yourself. Joining a party that's like 1 mechanic ahead is fine, 2 or more and you just risk wasting people's time while you catch up. The issue is there are a lot of morons that don't bother reading PF descriptions.

You get 700 for a loss, and only 900 for a win. And wouldn't you know it... losing is much quicker than winning, as pure chance would have it. Why, it might even be possible to lose in under a couple minutes if things went badly enough for your team.

I'm a bit surprised they've had no end-game gil sink like XI used to have, where you had to pay for something for a group to enter a piece of content.
