So I rewatched the cutscenes, and I noticed a big difference between when we used the echo on Scarmiglione's memoria crystal and on Golbez's memoria crystal.
When we interact with Golbez's crystal twice, we are looking through his perspective each time.
But when we interact with Scarmiglione's crystal, we're like a disembodied ghost floating around, instead of looking through Scarmiglione's perspective.
I thought that was interesting.
When you do the dungeons with trusts, all the Scions comment on how "he thinks you're Golbez for some reason." I feel like it's spelled out enough. Maybe in later expansions, Zero will throw us the crystal to give us a power boost against the super final boss.
PF is really struggling with Thordan today. Tanks dying to holy bladedance, missed towers, people getting knocked back in to the wall. I wish I could have my week 1 party back.

Also in the japanese version she is attracted to his "raw manliness", which was probably too toxic for the english translation team so they changed it that she suddenly likes him because he's "protects people" (making the comedic scene reversal towards the end fall flat, since it doesn't really make sense anymore).
And Guts was a grown mercenary wearing thick plate armor who looks like he could rip your head off with his bare hands, while Cloud is a borderline beanstalk by comparison who has alien DNA and lifestream injected into his veins to make him superhuman.
I mean shit, everyone uses aether in FF14 besides the obvious problem for Thancred, it's likely every major skill you do and every weapon you use is augmented with aether output to do damage for menial efforts and major tasks.

Thancred can use aether, the issue he has is that he can't project it outwards, so no magic no making gunblade bullets no special skills of any sort except physical. But at the same time working around that limitation is what allowed him to draw it inwards and get his stealth mode that he uses against Ran'jit (and I still maintain that it's the reason he can withstand Meteion's attack better than the others, but that's headcanon).

frankly I think everyone in the FF14 universe, unless explicitly a child or weak, is just on an inherent scale higher than normal fantasy. even regular adventurers are going in and kicking the shit out of coeurls and dragons on occasion. Thancred not being able to project aether doesn't mean much because he still does superhuman anime feats that would only be possible in a game of this sort anyway, and doesn't have ANY inherent wards or protections in Gunbreaker but can be the beefiest motherfricker for damage-tanking he can be anyway.
Guts looked like he could carry that sword, the manga and anime both showed Guts training and training and training to use his sword. He looks like a fricking beast and because of that you believe he can weild such a huge sword.
Cloud using a huge sword just looks ridiculous but it gets a pass because he's a 'Soldier' and it's because of other shit going on within him.
Guts always will be the superior presentation to Cloud because even though yes it's ridiculous, there is time spent giving believable backstory to to the sword, Guts, his training, and why he relies so much on his sword.

Did you not read Godbert's dialogue during the quest? They're not even actual genetic descendants from the 'alien' one, the only thing they inherited was the metallurgical techniques.
They've also explained the cartoon abilities with salamander oil and Julyan's cooking in the past.

It's true, Vrtra has genuinely more personality and several goals and conflicts he has to achieve/resolve in Endwalker. G'raha does basically nothing except tag along. He has a (unintentionally hilarious) Crystal Exarch callback scene during the Final Days in Radz-at-Han, then he has the melodramatic sacrifice scene at the end like the rest of the Scions and that's it.
Keep in mind that I'm not praising Vrtra, I'm saying that G'raha is that fricking lame in EW that he can't even keep up with such a shitty new character.

Graha's only bad feature is him still being a complete fanboy after Shadowbringers. I just want him to have some character growth and actual motives, instead of just fawning fanboy. If he's still the same character in Dawntrail and does the same things, I give up and agree with you.
This goes for most (but not all) scions. Many of them just hang around and have no real goals or motivations of their own anymore. I don't know why they IMMEDIATELY dropped the "we're gonna split up for a while because some of us actually have things to do still" plot, they could've at least taken a break for the duration of the patch content until Dawntrail and return with a bit more vigor.
Scions should be retired or given obvious exit points to the story, they've been circling the drain for the past few expacs and have nothing left to offer.
Endwalker would have been a great point to kill one for emotional impact but they got cold feet. I'd honestly just take them going off on their own directions permanently.
They have no interesting stories left to tell, they just exist to do callbacks.

Thancred was looking to link up with his mentor, they did nothing with that. They keep surrounding G'raha with nods to Corvos but otherwise he's not leaning that direction at all, rather it's fricking Hien who's going to check on them.
They don't even have to leave, they just need to actually *do* something again. Alphinaud has almost circled back to his ARR ways of being a naive, arrogant brat. Y'shtola only exists because she's the poster child for the game, the writers don't even use her eye gimmick in Endwalker anymore, all she does is spout exposition on things that our character themselves should know about by now. Alisae has been pretty much the exact same character since Heavensward, even though she has more reason than most to actually grow as a person. G'raha is simply nowhere near as interesting or likeable as the Crystal Exarch and yes, I do understand that there's a story reason for this, but that doesn't change that fact. Thancred basically doesn't exist anymore, he should've stayed on the First (or even better, Ryne should've joined us, which would've added a new dynamic to the group as a whole).
Urianger, Krile and Tataru are all in a good spot, actually. Estinien had it a bit rough, since the writers have decided to increase his relationship with Alphinaud to genuinely homoerotic levels, but he's still solid.

A character having a reason for something does not make the writing infallible. They literally could've just changed it on the fly and none would've been the wiser. Ryne has as much reason to leave the first as Thancred has reasons to leave her behind. The writers can simply invent reasons for both cases, you do realize that?

G'raha is a moronic simp now because he is not Exarch. He explains that Exarch's soul rejoined into him the same way Ardbert did you, but the memories meshed successfully, though as a result he's having a hard time sorting through them all and is surprised by his other self at times.
This doesn't make him a good or interesting character. He has done nothing since this moment. His presence is pointless and he's completely aimless. He's just there to suck your dick and has no actual drive of his own. Arguments of "but Exarch made sandwiches...!" are irrelevant because he is not the Exarch.
DRG is a bit clunky but has a (relatively) high skill ceiling. MCH has a tight rotation that has the necessary "oomph" to at least feel satisfying. DNC just presses random buttons and BRD feels impotent from beginning to end.
You know what, fair enough. I like playing BRD but I can agree it feels very weak compared to other jobs.
I hate DRG cause I can't into the insane amount of oGCDs during the burst

So I rewatched the cutscenes, and I noticed a big difference between when we used the echo on Scarmiglione's memoria crystal and on Golbez's memoria crystal.
When we interact with Golbez's crystal twice, we are looking through his perspective each time.
But when we interact with Scarmiglione's crystal, we're like a disembodied ghost floating around, instead of looking through Scarmiglione's perspective.
I thought that was interesting.
When you do the dungeons with trusts, all the Scions comment on how "he thinks you're Golbez for some reason." I feel like it's spelled out enough. Maybe in later expansions, Zero will throw us the crystal to give us a power boost against the super final boss.
PF is really struggling with Thordan today. Tanks dying to holy bladedance, missed towers, people getting knocked back in to the wall. I wish I could have my week 1 party back.

The lifestream is probably unironically the best afterlife of any I've seen honestly, reincarnation with possibility of remembering everything that your soul has been through in between lifes means you're pretty much getting the best perks of immortality and not the cons. The only possible con is that you might get Mitron'd and the love of your life isn't with you in every life, but I mean, every other alternative is even worse for that.

I mean shit, everyone uses aether in FF14 besides the obvious problem for Thancred, it's likely every major skill you do and every weapon you use is augmented with aether output to do damage for menial efforts and major tasks.
Thancred can use aether, the issue he has is that he can't project it outwards, so no magic no making gunblade bullets no special skills of any sort except physical. But at the same time working around that limitation is what allowed him to draw it inwards and get his stealth mode that he uses against Ran'jit (and I still maintain that it's the reason he can withstand Meteion's attack better than the others, but that's headcanon).
frankly I think everyone in the FF14 universe, unless explicitly a child or weak, is just on an inherent scale higher than normal fantasy. even regular adventurers are going in and kicking the shit out of coeurls and dragons on occasion. Thancred not being able to project aether doesn't mean much because he still does superhuman anime feats that would only be possible in a game of this sort anyway, and doesn't have ANY inherent wards or protections in Gunbreaker but can be the beefiest motherfricker for damage-tanking he can be anyway.
Guts looked like he could carry that sword, the manga and anime both showed Guts training and training and training to use his sword. He looks like a fricking beast and because of that you believe he can weild such a huge sword.
Cloud using a huge sword just looks ridiculous but it gets a pass because he's a 'Soldier' and it's because of other shit going on within him.
Guts always will be the superior presentation to Cloud because even though yes it's ridiculous, there is time spent giving believable backstory to to the sword, Guts, his training, and why he relies so much on his sword.

Re-establish what it means to be THE WoL and not A WoL and what makes the protagonist doing the right things so important versus people who want to compete against and compare themselves to the savior of the world.

It's true, Vrtra has genuinely more personality and several goals and conflicts he has to achieve/resolve in Endwalker. G'raha does basically nothing except tag along. He has a (unintentionally hilarious) Crystal Exarch callback scene during the Final Days in Radz-at-Han, then he has the melodramatic sacrifice scene at the end like the rest of the Scions and that's it.
Keep in mind that I'm not praising Vrtra, I'm saying that G'raha is that fricking lame in EW that he can't even keep up with such a shitty new character.

Scions should be retired or given obvious exit points to the story, they've been circling the drain for the past few expacs and have nothing left to offer.
Endwalker would have been a great point to kill one for emotional impact but they got cold feet. I'd honestly just take them going off on their own directions permanently.

Thancred was looking to link up with his mentor, they did nothing with that. They keep surrounding G'raha with nods to Corvos but otherwise he's not leaning that direction at all, rather it's fricking Hien who's going to check on them.
They don't even have to leave, they just need to actually *do* something again. Alphinaud has almost circled back to his ARR ways of being a naive, arrogant brat. Y'shtola only exists because she's the poster child for the game, the writers don't even use her eye gimmick in Endwalker anymore, all she does is spout exposition on things that our character themselves should know about by now. Alisae has been pretty much the exact same character since Heavensward, even though she has more reason than most to actually grow as a person. G'raha is simply nowhere near as interesting or likeable as the Crystal Exarch and yes, I do understand that there's a story reason for this, but that doesn't change that fact. Thancred basically doesn't exist anymore, he should've stayed on the First (or even better, Ryne should've joined us, which would've added a new dynamic to the group as a whole).
Urianger, Krile and Tataru are all in a good spot, actually. Estinien had it a bit rough, since the writers have decided to increase his relationship with Alphinaud to genuinely homoerotic levels, but he's still solid.

A character having a reason for something does not make the writing infallible. They literally could've just changed it on the fly and none would've been the wiser. Ryne has as much reason to leave the first as Thancred has reasons to leave her behind. The writers can simply invent reasons for both cases, you do realize that?

what dps classes are most fun? i'm not "new" but i am a noob, i'm only lvl 59 and at the start of heavensward. i play a dragoon but i'm curious of the other classes but idk if i wanna commit to levelling them all up to 59 to compare just yet. samurai sounds badass thematically and also the pugilist appeals to me. mostly talking about singleplayer questing rlly, i haven't delved into group content outside of the mandatory dungeons/raids

I could believe that about CT since you can still get through ARR even if you're moronic, but if it was the new 24 man then there's a couple instances the game DPS checks you before that to make sure you know how to actually play, and you can't progress past those to get to the latest content by just autoattacking.
hence, after being called on how silly it is to say somebody was only auto-attacking in a just-released alliance raid and nobody noticed, he backpedaled all the way back to ARR where you could feasibly get away with it with how much damage is shat out by the alliance

That's what you get for playing the worst DPS job in the game. Yes, worse than DNC.
DRG is the worst DPS, followed closely by MCH
DRG is a bit clunky but has a (relatively) high skill ceiling. MCH has a tight rotation that has the necessary "oomph" to at least feel satisfying. DNC just presses random buttons and BRD feels impotent from beginning to end.
You know what, fair enough. I like playing BRD but I can agree it feels very weak compared to other jobs.
