The game begins with and ends with her. She will always be the main character not the entire cast.

Bad endings aren't true endings so aren't mandatory either. The game still begins and ends with her especially in the true ending.

The game is constantly doing internal monologue sentences, the Journal entries and unending journey logs tend to be WoL's own thoughts and weird ideas on things going on put into a third person narration, and so forth. Honestly there's enough leniency for people to "RP" the character, but there's also enough established to make them a weird, quirky ass character that is just understated and has to be paid attention to for figuring out how deep it goes.

Honestly I kinda wish what XVI did with the idea of Dominants was worked into its own concept in XIV, independent of Summoner. Someone that harnesses certain energies to outright transform or use the abilities directly, shifting your buttons to different elements and so forth, except instead of a big primal transformation it's effectively using something like multiple Enshroud style visuals.

I prefer the normal FF way of you summoning the creature and letting it do it's thing with the most the summoner doing afterward is just directing it like Yuna did in FFX. My minor gripe I have over Summoner's animations in XIV now is that other than the initial blast from the Egi the player is doing the spell attacks themselves via the grimoire It was less an issue when the Egis were actual pets but now 90 percent of the time the Carbuncle is just a hyperventilating chihuahua that doesn't help with anything.

That has been the case before. 6.1 was actually really cool seeing that you had several replies and they would cause different things actually to happen. If you played it straight you didn't get any of the scenes where Y'shtola teases you/gets mad at you. The completely dropped it with 6.2 because I assume it was too much effort.

The real issue is people not managing their expectations well.
This game has a great story in terms of mmorpgs and an average to good story compared to other videogames and a below average story compared to actual books or film and shows.
It's pretty far below most other games when it comes to story. The fans delude themselves its good for anything beyond mmo standards, which are basically nonexistent, because the story takes 100 hours now.
Honestly when someone tells me 14 has one of the best if not the best FF stories, it just sorta makes me laugh on the inside despite liking (most of) it. FF stories are either quite simple and straightforward like the pre-7 titles, horribly moronic like 8 and 13, or bordering on unfinished like 9, and most of the "good" games were really the most impactful for being there in people's formative years. By writing standards this franchise is middling at best and dog water at worst, so saying 14 is so great by that standard is probably the most limiting thing you can say.

It's bits and pieces, but the story treats WoL as a generic goody two-shoes implicitly considering the player never gets an option to join the bad guys even when invited, plus other options where WoL has certain opinions about other characters, like canonically liking the Scions. Optionally, during the main quest line there's also several options where you can roleplay WoL as a canon challenge seeker / raidtroony, which you potentially make explicit at the end of EW.
Also, DRK questline breaks the self-insert mold a bit since the whole thing revolves around WoL internally dealing with certain plot events and emotions, though it's obviously optional.

The GREAT Juan Fantasia is the distillation of 1500+ years of white male heroes across myth fantasy and history. I guess it all hinges on the writing teams ability to write an interesting story and give the scions a purpose in it without flanderizing them (any further), though the last couple patches have made me very sceptical about the MSQs future.
She is awful due to the amount of screen time she gets is just a waste. I enjoyed her in 6.1 and would like to see more of that Y'stola, but all screen time after that is just slop for her. Give her more screen time if she is going to be fun, or do anything or have a personality. If she is just going to explain things to you and just have a magic cure or whatever then write her the frick out. I want her to actually be a character instead of just someone who shows up to tell you something, says she has a magic cure then fricks off. They can do it with Urianger so why can't they do it with Y'stola?

DPS BLU is miserable since it somehow manages to be even worse than every other job when it comes to how little you do outside of its 2 min burst window.
Tank BLU is painful since even with all the passive number boosts, you get chewed up by shit normal tanks would scoff at.
Healer BLU is okay by virtue of being a slightly crippled DPS with AoE heals, as opposed to being a massively crippled DPS with AoE heals like normal healers.
The only kind of fun part is getting spells solo and the Carnivale, but the first is a one and done thing, and the latter has been basically abandonned since the lvl 60 update.

Pushing huge amounts of aether around = Calamity whether it's over time (War of the Magi) or all at once (Allagan Calamity), either way the Scions don't treat the Crystal Tower as a cure-all because 1) it depends entirely on G'raha's goodwill and thinking it's a good idea, 2) the above point of pushing huge amounts of aether around, and 3) a giant aether battery full of monsters is a poor plot device and all characters are agreed it's potentially too dangerous for a multitude of reasons

LPDU are unified PF strats for Ultimates (it stands for Light Partyfinder Does Ultimates).
When DC travel came out, everyone who wanted to do them moved there since it was a good system.

Not really, but a lot of parties use Automarkers. Specially for UWU (Titan Gaols) and TOP (Dynamis stacks) but I don't think this is specific to Light DC.
you don't need anything: no plugins, no callouts or voice chat needed etc. what i would suggest is going into LPDU discord, grab all strats raidplans/mit plans and then leave if you are allergic to discord. TOP is not as hard anymore, DPS check is more lenient with 6.4 food and now 6.5 dungeon gear. good luck with prog anon.

WoL has tons of character growth if you're doing subquest and actually paying attention to the story.
For example, post ARR in every scene where WoL is a choice of drink, you'll always given the choice of water, if you pick water WoL will always glare at the cup and then drink. It's a subtle reference to when they were poisoned. They have likes and dislikes.

I had Nidhogg extreme in mentor roulette. The other mentor and I taught all the mechanics to the 6 sprouts (who were very receptive and talkative) and we cleared after about 35 minutes
One in every two thousand is not a good indicative, besides if you were in that roulette and you were not a sprout it means you were also a roulette which means you did jackshit to teach "the new sprouts" in that run, turning you into one of the million deadbeat mentors around.

Why not do content with your FC members? PVP is pretty casual friendly too if you want to try out Frontlines.
PVP is about the only thing I've done religiously in the game, but they all run expert and 8 man raids while I typically just run content once for the story and move on with life.

I'm ultra casual and just been taking other classes to 90 that I ignored when I was doing MSQ and using Trusts and Hunts to level them up.
Just finished Dragoon the other night and trying to decide if I want to try a tank out but I don't want to spend all that money on upgrading equipment every few levels since I'm sure tanks are way more dependent on up to date load-outs than DPS who can wing it on stuff several levels lower when leveling.

Part of that is deduplication in install process, you need to have plenty of room clear so the game has leeway to get things on there, but yeah, things are getting bigger and bigger at this rate.

Didn't say they'd have to do it on demand. Their soul can clearly still do it as we were shown, but I half imagine someone temporarily incapacitates them and the next thing you know, Alphinaud is temporarily sharing a seat with the WoL for the next half hour to rescue their body or something.
I'm pretty sure Echo powers are pure lottery and everyone who awakens it gets different shit.
It's just different people having different outreaches of their abilities as former Ancients. Fordola and Zenos get their bootleg Echoes that work in different ways, Krile feels things from the heart with the occasional flashback, Arenvald has his work somewhat like WoL, and WoL pretty much has been evolving all story long from simple flashbacks to producing energy shields and other shit. In theory everyone is calling from the same wellspring of potential power, they're just doing it in different ways according to the individual, and one can presume it would be able to eventually reach the theoretical point of shit like natural Creation and how several of the unsundered Ancients outright transform into boss forms overtop themselves or other shit.
