Thank fricking god for that Tataru language plugin. The english version has a handful of great scenes that I'd say are an actual improvement over the japanese script, and a couple of really good VA, but a lot of the text is so much worse in english and plenty of side characters have that typical low-quality JRPG dubbing. Before you call me a weeb, the french script is also better overall.

Yes, we've known for years that EN FFXIV is basically a different game. You could write and entire book with the differences but Koji Fox defenders will still clinch to his dick as if their lives depended on it.
It's redditors who think every shitty english dub is "just as good" as the original language, without ever actually trying out that language before making a comparison, of course. It's something I exclusively notice for english dubs of japanese media, I've never heard a frenchmen or a german say "oh yeah our dub is exactly like the original and actually much better!".
The German localization is much better than the English one. I used to play JP audio with DE language to learn the first and reinforce the second so I don't forget it, and when I changed back to EN for Endwalker I was stunned at the difference in audio and text between JP and EN. Granted, my Japanese isn't that good, I've only been learning 3 years, but still, it's very glaring.
I honestly still don't know who's actually to blame for this mess.
If you got far ahead on your own with the other 2 you'll be fine.

Yeah I don't know that much about the game since I'm still in HW but the french and japanese dub sound a million times better than the english one in this video. Makes me grateful I started with JP from the beginning, since I had nothing but bad experiences with english dubs in other JRPGs.

Barb literally is just a tomboy, they didn't have nearly enough time to flesh all of the archfiends and her sidequest story with the little voidspawn slime paints makes it painfully obvious that she was made to fit a mould instead of being a character in her own right. As I pointed out before, a handful of excellent performances does not eliminate the fact that most of the performances are subpar. I'm not here to shittalk english Estinien, but I will point out that there's a lot of characters that have awful english VA, whereas the japanese version is absolutely consistent across the board.

They heard a lot of complaints from the player base along these lines. In a future update, they're planning on making it more clear what the player has to do. None of the primals are real gods, they're bastardized imitations people were tricked into summoning. Hell the major point with the Amalj'aa and Ifrit was that Ifrit had tempered the vast majority of the race so hard that they had abandoned all their other traditions and religious beliefs besides just offering shit to an imitation Ifrit.
But even in Heavensward they don't shit on the church. Every single organization in the game's lore has some kind of bad actor in it. Even the Scions fell victim to that. The Halonic Church has been locked in a war for 1000 years and the paranoia and power structure that evolved just made it ripe for manipulation by shitty people. Also I feel like something a lot of people miss is that Ysayle's heretics were stirring a lot of shit intentionally by pretending to be inquisitors and torturing people just so people would get mad at the church which wasn't actually doing that shit in the first place. Another thing people miss is that Thordan himself wasn't even evil on his own, he was tempered by the Knights of the Round primal.
Adding to this, the church is also treated throughout Heavensward as the bedrock of Ishgard. It's the one and only thing that kept people united and pushing forwards through 1000 years of hell. Haldrath understood the power of religion which is why he set the lie into place to begin with.

While I don't like the Alliance raid in EW from a writing perspective, this is somewhat wrong. The church and their faith in Ishgard wouldn't be impacted all that much if they learned about the nature of Halone, since, like I said before, they have already made their own doctrines. Sure, it would have an impact on sayings like "By Halone!" or whatever, but that's more cultural than dogmatic.

What determines how fast LB fills up in pvp? Other than the obvious shit like class. Does using more attacks fill it faster, or using MP? There's something I'm not getting, I throw out everything that's off cooldown but people with the same class get their LB faster
It's on a timer that speeds up when you are in combat, unless there is a skill/item that specifically mentions interacting with it, it will fill up at the same rate regardless of what you do with the only difference being if your in combat or not.

It's not about the ancient progenitor race, it's more about the fact that the world was originally a divine paradise until it was sundered and now the remnants of the original race are trying to rejoin the sundered fragments to return to the lost paradise.
The circumstances are pretty different though. For the Zilart, they never knew the original world. They descended from it, but they have no memory of it. They only discovered the truth about it because Eald'narche touched one of the Mothercrystals and had a vision of it. He took this as a sign that Altana had chosen him to be their messiah and mend the broken world. Except that he's completely wrong and Altana was the one who broke it in the first place because if it were to remain whole then it would fall victim to a 'perfect death', meaning it would just vanish all at once.

This is a big reason why I prefer XI's worldbuilding over XIV's. It's more willing to stand on its own instead of having shit like using the Crystal Tower from FF3 to open the way to Zeromus from FFIV. It makes Vana'diel feel more like an actual world instead of a Final Fantasy fan compilation.
Kind-of-but-not-really-but-the-main-overview-is-similar. For all that XIV did end up taking a lot of shit from XI, I think XIV largely accomplishes it better.

There is no need to think about fight design when you can force everyone to work in the same 1-2 minute timer and you can fit the fight around it.

That would make every support action unusable for 99% of players, essentially killing the support sub-archetype in a single patch. They could start with making sure that buffs don't stack multiplicatively and then start separating buffs into types which are allowed to stack and ones that aren't. That would require some actual thought be put into job design though so that is not going to happen at this point
My thought process was just separating things like crit buffs from damage % buffs and additives and just divide them amongst the support jobs. So you can take a support melee with a main dps ranged or some shit but your buffs won't stack if you try to use two support melee dps.
That is essentially already how it works, it's just on a per-job basis instead of on a role basis. Two DNC can't stack tech finish for example, they just override each other

Cross role doesn't stack though, what stacks are all party buffs that are unique to each job. The problem is that there are a frickton of these buffs now compared to before and that stuff like Brotherhood stacks with tech finish for example even though they both essentially do exactly the same thing

I think the presentation is 10/10 but it is definitely not the kind of thing that would appeal to most XIV players. I think most of them would fall asleep and call it quits before finishing RotZ because there aren't any hype moments.

If FF14 fans actually played another FF game they wouldn't suck off the story as hard as they do. No joke, a few days ago one of my FC mates said they've never actually played any other FF games and hope they keep recreating the stories in XIV so he doesn't have to play the other games.

Retail is still decently populated on Bahamut and Asura, you can find players for most things pretty quickly. At least, that's been my experience.
YoshiP hinted at that being a possibility during the hiroshimoot interview or the XI anniversary stream but that it would probably be a massive undertaking so it could possibly take years for it to happen if it ever gets done at all.
Currently, the devs only have a few PS2 dev kits that they are more or less forced to use to change certain aspects of the game (it's not confirmed but seems to be true) so sooner or later if SE wants to keep the game online they will be forced to make some sort of drastic change to the engine to get it to play joce with modern server architectures
iirc they did end up virtualizing the dev hardware (read: they probably have an emulated PS2 devkit up now)
I'm not up to speed on that so what you two are saying is probably true which means that the only reason why SE would ever release a offline 11 now is if the sub-money runs out

Guesstimated sub numbers range from 50 to 100k, they currently have a singular person working on the game that runs on a single server blade and sits in the same room as the XIV servers in japan.
It costs them pennies to run and makes them millions.
Most hardcore XI players are paying $32/mo if they're using all optional sub expansions (think retainers in xiv), and depending on the time of year there's anywhere from 40k-120k (heavily biased towards free logins/anniversary events). On the dev side square has cut costs to such an extreme degree that the XI team is in the single digits (and currently I think digit, one guy) and new development has been momentarily (or permanently, no one knows) halted.

I feel like they wouldn't make their money back if they tried to develop an offline-only version of the game. It's probably cheaper to keep the game in semi-maintenance mode, since the subs will defray the cost of keeping the servers up.

In all honesty I'm pretty sure someone at SE absolutely abhors FFXI and wants it to disappear, they've done nothing but try to bury it for a decade. You wouldn't know it but it had it's 20th anniversary last year, XIV just re-ran the same old event with no fanfare, for it's 21st anniversary this year they put it on true maintenance mode.
Despite having a large amount of players, having a sub fee that is MORE than XIV, and being(now run by 1 person) run by a team of 3-5 people it apparently didn't have any money to be able to do literally anything for the game. They gave an AMA during the 20th anniversary and everything people asked for was met by "well yeah we'd like to, BUT, we don't have the x or y for it blahblahblah".
