Former FFXIV player with 600 days subscribed here. I only resub every 6 months for a month at a time until an expansion comes out, then I max all the classes and binge the game for 3 months then uninstall and unsub for 2 years. Also all the people sit in their FC houses these days collect all the buffs they need and then bounce. Housing systems kill MMOs.
even if you do savage there's no reason to cap tomes beyond certain point. i got my 12s clear when i was still wearing mostly crafted on left side and using unupgraded tome weapon. grinding for gear in this game is a dumb waste of time
i haven't touched that content but idk why not? i heard from friends that you need bis to do its savage version anyway so it seems logical to reward something good.
The only reason why people would be excited for weapon upgrade mat in Criterion is because it unlocks the dye channel. Same as why the only reason people are excited for the glowy weapon in Crit Savage, it looks nice.
Item level upgrades are meaningless, glam rewards are the only thing that people care about

alliance gear should be max ilv to begin with. who would actually fricking care? savage would be out 4-5 months by that point so it doesn't matter if it's the same ilv anyway and casuals wouldn't be doing content to begin with so ilv makes no difference to them.
Some people want to play other jobs properly in savage and the tome system needlessly stalls that out. It's easier to fully gear yourself in savage items than it is to get the tome gear you need for BIS.

Shouldn't artifact armor work toward being thematic of the expansion nowadays (without dropping the theme of the job ofc)? I like the variation they do but I think NOW would be the time to start getting experimental to the job motifs.
SE made the Sami outfit and it caused a stink, so I think they're a bit gun-shy in going too far into the mesoamerican aesthetic. Which is a shame since they could make some cool shit.

I also like SGE but I had that they get the exact type of headwear again. Reaper looks neat but I dunno if I like the headpiece. Rest looks pretty great, though. PLD looks... classic. I really feel like they just tried to remake the ARR PLD set, down to the things hanging from the belt.
DRG we haven't seen in 3D but that one could be pretty great.
Reaper really threw me off with its style, I thought it was Black Mage because of the covered eye. On the other hand: femroe mommy in leather push-up straps.

I thought Endwalker sets already looked like remixed older sets so I'm fine with it overall. Tiamat set for Dragoon looks like an unconvincing fusion of Drachen and Trueblood for instance, while that concept art sketch for DRG armor in Dawntrail looks like a *convincing* fusion of Drachen, Dragonlancer and Trueblood with a tiny bit of Pteroslaver DNA.

no i'm happy to get a very loose-fitting, comfortable and cashmere wool-looking set that gives the image of flowing space, has very good looking cloth materials, and calls back to the welkin set
I feel like they could make their new shaders a bit more apparent. Some look really nice, like the summoner one where the pieces of cloth actually evoke a feeling. I look at that material and get an idea of what it would feel like to touch. Same for SAM, a bit. Not so much for SGE and GNB, and MCH, and RPR. Then with AST I get it again.
Even then you're seeing cherrypicked cutscenes, 1.X had them more frequently (and infamously blew a lot of its budget on them) but most cutscenes were still just canned emotes with better cinematography. As far as gwaffix goes 1.X's strengths were its lighting, texture resolution, and more seamless cities. I think the seamlessness is overblown, personally, I really don't give a shit about there being a loading screen between Upper and Lower Decks in ligma lomingea

SAM AF looks less similar than I feared it would, but it's still a suspiciously similar set. I don't like the o-yoroi plating on it as decoration, just give me a full o-yoroi set or frick off. I'm still wearing Heavensturn and a tiger kabuto.
SAM set can be kino if you can put long gloves over the dumb frick sleeves.
If not it's DOA, the problem with EW SAM was that you couldn't put long gloves or armor over the sleeves so you just looked Dumpy.
With DTs set you can at least do some semi senshingumi/formal mix.
I'm not saying it's the same model, but it's the exact same cut of jacket, down to the same sort of coattails.

Job design has been actively regressing in depth since Stormblood despite the increased production value (remember positionals? I do), graphics are showing their age though that's being addressed in the next expansion it's still ultimately a bandaid over a festering cut, raid content has become formulaic not just in how many there are per expansion but in the fights themselves (every tier MUST have a wall boss), raid content has also been regressing design wise and we are NEVER getting anything like O6S or Orbonne ever again.
I might have Stormblood favoritism but when both subsequent expansions have been increasingly shit it's hard not to. Verification not fricking required
Why wasn't Hildibrand in Shadowbringers? Back when I finished the STB questline I was certain that's what it was leading up to but he isn't anywhere in that expac, not even an alt world version like the Wandering Minstrel has.
Because they had already decided to cut Hildy and deep dungeons in SHB before covid. We also lost voice acting in alliance and trials. SHB was when they started taking cuts when possible and covid only enabled them further.
Hildibrand to my recollection was only in Shadowbringers as an easter egg in the dungeon The Heroes' Gauntlet. Outside of that, a lot of stuff you'd typically see, Allied Beast Tribe quests and other stuff was not present in ShB as well.

It was 6.1 that added a Herklaedi with a cape into the game iirc

It's my favorite base MSQ. Didn't care as much for 6.x but didn't loathe it either. Favorite raid series. Ok Alliance Raid series. I want to put extra emphasis on this because people won't take it serious, but trannies are unironically a big problem in FFXIV. When you have the new player sprout icon, you constantly get approached by them trying to groom you. A lot of players you run into in populated areas are trannies running coomer mods busy ERPing in DMs while standing in public. The problem reaches into moderation because you can not say the word "frick" even without it being used as an insult, without getting muted for it if someone reports you, yet at the same time there will some AGP standing 5 steps away from where you said "frick" typing out a textwall about rape or something to a minor in DMs while their character barely wears any clothes. This biased moderation causes normal/mature players to leave and you're left with just more and more trannies which keep growing in numbers as they groom more insecure new players while getting non grooming targets banned because you will undeniably go "what the frick stay away from me" when they make a move on you.
FFXIV is an anime cartoon game with a nanny moderation. The game is a safety blanket and it attracts maladjusted people like flies to a carcass. It's not bad over here in Europe but I have met these types of people who want to advertise their fetishes with alarming frequency.
My favorite one was an obvious troony in Dzemael Darkhold broadcasting his support for the Ukraine while everybody just wanted to finish the dungeon.

Why the frick do people actually play this garbage? The only "good" part of this game are the Savage raids (and you can barely call them raids - more like boss rush arenas with no actual dungeon to clear through). And as much as everyone here wants to hate on WoW - WoW does raids way better, and your character actually feels like it's getting stronger from gear.
Given that the Sundered races exist as a direct consequence of a deliberate act of genocide, eugenics and racial replacement being inflicted upon the Ancients then I imagine that the Ascians were rather keen on embracing something that somewhat resembled their former selves but that would also allow them to move relatively unhindered through the remnants of Etheirys. Midlanders, then, generally fit those requirements on both fronts.
We also know that Lahabrea, at least, never felt quite right in any of his hosts which is understandable - personally as a gay guy I wouldn't be comfortable with the idea of having my mind, memories, body or sexuality being forcibly changed to suit the whims of someone else which would be more than enough reason for me to oppose both the Sundering and Rejoinings alike depending on which loomed overhead as a threat.
Yet that's just me as an individual. In the context of the story, the Sundered only exist as a direct result of Venat's horrific actions and so the Ancients never 'had to' roll over and die out for the sake of anyone's precious (or not so precious) original character do not steal.

Some people want to play other jobs properly in savage and the tome system needlessly stalls that out. It's easier to fully gear yourself in savage items than it is to get the tome gear you need for BIS.

Tiamat set for Dragoon looks like an unconvincing fusion of Drachen and Trueblood for instance, while that concept art sketch for DRG armor in Dawntrail looks like a *convincing* fusion of Drachen, Dragonlancer and Trueblood with a tiny bit of Pteroslaver DNA.

Even then you're seeing cherrypicked cutscenes, 1.X had them more frequently (and infamously blew a lot of its budget on them) but most cutscenes were still just canned emotes with better cinematography. As far as gwaffix goes 1.X's strengths were its lighting, texture resolution, and more seamless cities. I think the seamlessness is overblown, personally, I really don't give a shit about there being a loading screen between Upper and Lower Decks in ligma lomingea

Job design has been actively regressing in depth since Stormblood despite the increased production value (remember positionals? I do), graphics are showing their age though that's being addressed in the next expansion it's still ultimately a bandaid over a festering cut, raid content has become formulaic not just in how many there are per expansion but in the fights themselves (every tier MUST have a wall boss), raid content has also been regressing design wise and we are NEVER getting anything like O6S or Orbonne ever again.

Why wasn't Hildibrand in Shadowbringers? Back when I finished the STB questline I was certain that's what it was leading up to but he isn't anywhere in that expac, not even an alt world version like the Wandering Minstrel has.

Because they had already decided to cut Hildy and deep dungeons in SHB before covid. We also lost voice acting in alliance and trials. SHB was when they started taking cuts when possible and covid only enabled them further.

Hildibrand to my recollection was only in Shadowbringers as an easter egg in the dungeon The Heroes' Gauntlet. Outside of that, a lot of stuff you'd typically see, Allied Beast Tribe quests and other stuff was not present in ShB as well.

I want to put extra emphasis on this because people won't take it serious, but trannies are unironically a big problem in FFXIV. When you have the new player sprout icon, you constantly get approached by them trying to groom you. A lot of players you run into in populated areas are trannies running coomer mods busy ERPing in DMs while standing in public. The problem reaches into moderation because you can not say the word "frick" even without it being used as an insult, without getting muted for it if someone reports you, yet at the same time there will some AGP standing 5 steps away from where you said "frick" typing out a textwall about rape or something to a minor in DMs while their character barely wears any clothes. This biased moderation causes normal/mature players to leave and you're left with just more and more trannies which keep growing in numbers as they groom more insecure new players while getting non grooming targets banned because you will undeniably go "what the frick stay away from me" when they make a move on you.

The only "good" part of this game are the Savage raids (and you can barely call them raids - more like boss rush arenas with no actual dungeon to clear through). And as much as everyone here wants to hate on WoW - WoW does raids way better, and your character actually feels like it's getting stronger from gear.

Given that the Sundered races exist as a direct consequence of a deliberate act of genocide, eugenics and racial replacement being inflicted upon the Ancients then I imagine that the Ascians were rather keen on embracing something that somewhat resembled their former selves but that would also allow them to move relatively unhindered through the remnants of Etheirys. Midlanders, then, generally fit those requirements on both fronts.
We also know that Lahabrea, at least, never felt quite right in any of his hosts which is understandable - personally as a gay guy I wouldn't be comfortable with the idea of having my mind, memories, body or sexuality being forcibly changed to suit the whims of someone else which would be more than enough reason for me to oppose both the Sundering and Rejoinings alike depending on which loomed overhead as a threat.
Yet that's just me as an individual. In the context of the story, the Sundered only exist as a direct result of Venat's horrific actions and so the Ancients never 'had to' roll over and die out for the sake of anyone's precious (or not so precious) original character do not steal.
