A shame it came at the cost of turning every boss fight in the plot since then into "I'll take out my JO crystal and summon some Dark Souls phantoms". Previously there was just a disconnect between gameplay and plot that I thought was fine, it was cool having the Warrior of Light canonically do shit like defeat Thordan and the Knights of the Round by himself, or you going in to fight Ravana with just Ysayle and you each attempting to have an honorable duel with him.
There was nothing wrong with "gather some of your adventurer friends" because it's a fricking MMO, and that's how it went.

Shadowbringers had the potential to fix the problems Stormblood introduced, but they made it a filler expansion with 90% of it having no bearing on the overarching story.
well it definitely wasn't a filler expansion as it dumped the most pertinent lore out of the game so far.
Yeah but imagine if said lore was part of something like a Garlemald expansion that didn't need to rush every other plot thread, and instead could have resolved long-standing issues like beast tribes and tampering without sudden hamfisted solutions.
It's true though. You can see where they rushed the story, quite blatantly even. Anything Shadowbringers introduced absolutely could have been done in an expansion that overall didn't waste the majority of its time on things that didn't matter. You could have the climax of the Garlemald story without waving it away offscreen without our involvement, all the while keeping Emet as the final boss for the Ancients shit. By doing that you'd also drastically improve Endwalker's storytelling since it wouldn't have to deal with the empire for a large part of it.

1.0 did it better because they reveal you weren't special from the get go and you had an npc summonable partner that also had the echo.

You couldn't summon your path companion, outside of cutscenes they were only there in like two or three solo instances. FFXI did have a customizable buddy you could summon though.

How is it any more silly than putting the Automaton Queen in our bag? We obviously don't, the animation is WoL summoning it from nowhere. It's the same technique Nero used to summon his power armor, and he did that in the Rift so that was also interdimensional summoning. Funny to think that Nero solved Y'shtola's problem in Stormblood.

Time was of the essence, the Ragnarok was not designed to carry something as tremendous as the G-Warrior and its launching dock, and its utility would be questionable as we had no idea what we were actually up against in terms of attacking Meteion at her nest.
Its utility would in fact be nonexistent, because it's just a machine. Meteion can unravel its existence with a thought because it doesn't have the mentality to assert its own existence in a realm of dynamis.

Half of us are casuals who weren't really positioned to take part. It's only because the focused raiders were done with their stuff for the expansion that this has been happening at all.

i disagree. banning GDKP is heavy handed and also a false solution to what is actually ailing the game mode. GDKP existed as far back as the original TBC from my own experience and is just a form of player engagement.
what would actually fix the issue is culling the bots and hard banning gold buyers. but that takes actual effort, so they're pretending to do something but chopping off one dead shoot when the entire vine needs to be cut.
because instigating 'discussion' is more entertaining to the individuals who can't form an argument than actual good faith discussion.
then you could talk about the game or dawntrail, but then you just get the most uncreative slop like 'I want X but with Y' or wanting certain jobs based entirely on the coat of paint covering whatever job playstyle they've had for awhile

i'm actually torn on this. my class, white mage, has a few pretty potent abilities in pvp, ie the polymorph and afflatus purgation. the former isn't going to be useful in the slightest in normal pve, maybe as a pinch interrupt/stun in DD or something. purgation fits well with the cleric fantasy of whtie mage, though ffxiv white mages aren't clerics, they're closer to druids that use light when they get really powerful.
then there's seraph strike, which i actually have a gameplay issue with. its a great ability. the healing potency up buff, the free cure 3, the dps aura, all fit the class flavor imo, but the gap closer doesn't. if it were just a powerful melee ability i'd be fine with it.
Ancients were by far and large the death of XIV both from a story and gameplay experience and now the developers have shot themselves in the foot with going forward with anything else. There is no mystery left to discover in this game because it's always just going to be "allagans or ancients did it." They might slap in some 3rd alien race from space but at this point it just isn't a surprise anymore. We already travelled to the end of the universe so going anywhere else at this point just feels mid.
Even the whole solution 9 shit as cool as it looks visually we know from a story perspective it will be sure to be underwhelming.
At this point it feels like Dawntrail is going to deal with another shard's version of Allagans.

The Myths of the Realm ended in a way I was honestly expecting but in a way that didn't want it to end. Though in retrospect, my desired ending of them being free to wander the realm was kinda fulfilled, in that they were exercising free will. Thaliea is pretty, flashy with great spectacle. Oschon asking us to see it to the end and us ascending to the 7th Heaven (double memberberry) and the most milquetoast ending 3rd round of 24 man raids gameplay wise. The final song doesn't have the oomph that In the Balance or Dedicated to Moonlight had. The regular boss theme had a melancholy to it that I felt was appropriate. I've gone to several places that are named after the 12 and haven't found Deryk. I'll try the stones later. The revelation of the identity of the 12 was the best part imho, as it vindicated me in my efforts that I failed to find any other clues in Elpis about them, as it was just Althyk and Nymeia. I found myself emotionally distraught at their passing, moreso than even when Zenos asked me if my life was a blessing or a burden. I am grateful that I can still be moved by fiction, given how 'hard' i think I have become.

The core game isn't designed to be that type of MMO but it can explore it through side content. It's fun to change your tank into a glass cannon or your dps into doing a single big hit of damage, some actions even tweak how your base skills function. It's extra enjoyable when the harder content (Delubrum Savage) is designed to cater to many of these options.

I did Green DPS as WHM for Bozja. While a lot of your damage is Glare spamming, you also want to make sure to snapshot Dia as much as you can in big damage windows, keep LSS on cooldown, and still utilize things like Benediction since that's a full heal even if you have healing reduction on. DNCs used to partner me a lot when they realized I was doing more damage than the DPS (except for the rare good ones that were utilizing Flare Star or some of the melee that used their good actions.) It was just incredibly fun to be that destructive.

I don't know, maybe normal content has been leveling off but the harder content has been getting increasingly more difficult. Bozja wasn't really about ball busting difficulty levels but more about being in that fun zone where raiders can enjoy it and casuals get annihilated by it.

probably holding their big cooldowns for bosses, it's pretty common among casual players.
Because playing as DPS requires no real effort in dungeons as your impact isn't as easily noticeable as it is for Tanks and Healers. Even if a pull takes long you won't see many complain unless the Healer isn't a cuck and says something or the Tank dies.

I think they're shooting themselves in the foot by trying to make it so that it can fit in a BLU party. They basically have to give it everything BLU already has so they can fit in, which means a lot of BST stuff will just be playing catch up.
They should have made it so that limiteds are only meant to work in a party of 8 of the same job.
I'm concerned about what content it'll be doing, I really don't see it being able to follow the BLU trend of doing old raids synced unless they go absolutely crazy with it's design and have you become the pet or whatever. Frankly BLU raiding isn't even that enjoyable because of the ilvl situation, you steamroll all the EX trials and only 1 out of the 3 raids is done at the proper ilvl.
blu updates suck in general. you pick up a few random skills then get everything else from primal fights basically to put in your dps rotation. SHB got some powerful ones but nothing fun. And they only do 1 carnival fight now.
They also completely abandoned the idea of BLU getting to use the same skills as the enemies. Instead of giving you the same skill, they just make shit up and give it the same name. Like pic related, or Winged Reprobation + Conviction Marcato. Or they completely invent new skills and patch in enemies just for that skill. Kinda defeats the purpose.

There's no way to charge it up so you wouldn't reach that. Being Mortal is obviously a nuke, yeah, but why not give the tazer ability instead? Channeled spell that applies a lightning debuff with each pulse. Then you introduce a teamwork element where your party can try to get an astral libra and use a lightning filler spell. But instead you get another Moon Flute nuke to jam in. BLU honestly does not need this many spells, and in this style of game there are only so many effects it can get.
i'm glad you understand that trying to appeal to the player base is a fundamentally bad idea. i'm just glad that what BLU is now is entertaining enough

I don't understand how people call this an MMO... I'm just getting into it's and I've been disbanded from my party to do so much solo shit, it's mind boggling, I can't think of an MMO (if you can call it that) that separates you from so much group stuff or gatekeeps you from content altogether.
Yoshi P designed the game to feel more like a JRPG first and an MMO second in order to keep it in line with other Final Fantasies. Think of it more as a live service JRPG with multiplayer.
Then maybe they should stop advertising this as an MMO. I jumped into this due to my friends talking about how great it was, and that the story is "Better than previous FF games" and the last FF I touched was 10, I'm just not feeling it with this one. For those who enjoy it though, good for them.

Please don't neuter AST when you do the DT rework for it. Its the only fun regen healer and I couldn't bear to put a railroad spike through my skull in order to find WHM fun.
AST hasn't been fun since SB.
Compared to WHM its night and day. Even if its not SB AST (I never played during then so I can't comment on it) its still the only fun regen healer right now.
I have to think about how I'm going to heal and my CD usage.
The card system rewards you for game knowledge and knowing which jobs are stronger on odd minute bursts. You have no mobility so you actually have to slidecast and weave instead of just burning lillies for movement.
I did a bit of WHM on EX trials to farm mounts, and to try it on some savage reclears to see the difference. I genuinely do not understand how anyone can play that job at a high level and have fun. It literally plays itself, watching paint dry is more fun than WHM.
AST is getting a rework? Why? It works fine as is as the dedicated buff mage

Yes, you need to think 10-20 seconds into the future which is too complicated and stressful for the average player. Same reason Cleric Stance got put in the ground.

Not that anon, but I enjoy AST the most because it's the busiest healer. Gotta juggle healing, buffs, and timed abilities like Earthly Star that reward knowing the ins-and-outs of a fight.
