It is arguably the best time to get into XIV. You can finish up to heavensward for free, and mostly solo. They could also extend the free trial to stormblood in the near future.
Separating the game into 'pre-shadowbringers' and 'post-shadowbringers' could work. It's the one everyone was raving about. If they did, we could see another MSQ cull to make sure it's not agonizingly long.
