ARR patch writing wasn't bad, there were just a lot of filler quests that don't even exist anymore. This patch series had some of the worst writing in video games.
More hyperbole. There was only one shit moment that struck me in the entire EW patch series and it was the justification for benching Vrtra before the Rubicante fight. That was dumb.
Zero contradicts herself from one scene to the next, Golbez's scheming doesn't make any sense and in hindsight everything he did up through 6.3 was actively detrimental to his plan, Y'shtola had one of her primary character traits just vanish for the sake of sucking off Zero, Estinien turned into decoration, they had us ask the populace for permission to use the magical tower two patches in a row, the only acknowledgement Unukalhai and Cylva get is "tell them I said hi". Dude, this story was BAD. It is a fricking mess.

I did a blind from start PF last night and we got to at least 50% success rate on meteors after seeing it a few times, maybe more at the end. Really this is nothing compared to Sweeping Immolation on Rubicante which I saw at best 15% success rate in most PFs

It didn't help that there were like 4 different macros going around in the PF and every one of them had a different spread pattern, some had tanks and healers center, some had tanks side, healers center etc etc. All the while the tanks could easily just go to the bad side with immune to give players more room, but of course nobody did that either

It didn't feel so self contained anymore when the writers decided to allow the First to have a stake in the outcome of the story. 6.5 was way better than the previous patches in that you felt some actual large scale story progression.
In the end, its purpose was to set up a Thirteenth expac down the line, like the Warrior of Darkness patch msqs in Heavensward were used to set up Shadowbringers.
Same reason the Unukalhai/Cylva stuff was only mentioned through an optional dialogue at the end. They're reluctant to incorporate stuff building on older optional content in the MSQ because casuals will cry that suddenly they have to do a raid or Eureka/Bozja.

In Bozja he was summoned into a vessel. You can't kill a voidsent that way, it just gets zipped back to the Thirteenth when the vessel is no longer usable. Just like when you nullstoned him in Mhach.
Exploratory zone or future patch content is fine by me. 6.5 and 6.4 had a bit too much focus on Zero balance wise, and was too much "teaching autists to love", but all in all it was reasonable, interesting. Better than the worst parts of previous patch stories', worse than the best.

What would be the point of a green mage? It was originally a buffer, debuffer. Just being a caster dps seems like an odd implementation. Doesn't seem like they want to go beyond the classic split even if some jobs do lean more in the buffer direction.
A different kind of RDM? I'm not saying it has to be never before seen, but so far the new job additions have at least a different idea behind them all.

I wonder if they have a long history of green and blue mages, like Eorzea with black/white/red. Are they somehow linked? Maybe they use a similar weapon, like a cane or one handed club, will they somehow be linked to monster magic, but the usage is different? I don't think they'll be similar to classic FF green mages like Sages aren't really the same either.
Thaumaturgy and Conjury are also from different parts of Eorzea. They are like 2 sides of the same coin, opposite, but the same in a way.

I could see it being a DoT Mage, or a utility caster, or an even more physical RDM given how it's primary spellcasting is debuffs so you throw on a DoT or two then beat the shit out of your enemy with a mace or hammer. Though I don't see Krile using either of those.

They actually do. Triplecast/Swiftcast works with PLD spells for instance. It's just that there are a lot of buffs that only work in conjunction with abilities from their original job, but any buff that stands on its own works fine.

No, because it's an online game. That makes it more complicated as you have to handle communication (packets) between the clients and server.
You can't just "increase the integer" when dealing with specific data packets with tight specifications designed to transmit and or store certain amount of data per unit of time
It's also why they can't just easily increase inventory space
It also limits the number of character customisations possible because the server transmits EVERY character's face,hair,nose,colours,etc to every other character in the zone every single tick. Which is why it was a massive undertaking to do something as simple as adding midlander stubble in EW.

It won't just be "an integer", it will be to do with the total packet size or something. These things can get complex when you're transmitting and syncing data multiple times per second. Also japs are infamously bad at netcode and SE are working on 10+ yr/old spaghetti engine code where the original programmers have probably fricked off years ago.

The EX and Savage are developed alongside the normal modes, and use the same assets and code. You're really not saving much dev time in exchange for killing content that a lot of the playerbase actually does engage with. Savage engagement is around 20%, and extreme is higher than that.
Cut out content and you lose players, then even the turbocasuals will notice when their friendslists and FCs are suddenly all offline.
This but also for fishing, crafting, custom deliveries, hunts, sidequests, triple triad, and all other optional content. We should only have MSQ, cashshop glams and Limsa AFK because that's the content with high engagement.

I think at the start of the fight you use them for the mini lightnings. Yes anyone sane could do that without murdering the MT even if the overall positions were melee NE/NW but it's PF so don't expect sanity.

The 24man should drop 660 gear with different stat allocations. Variant should drop tokens, Criterion should drop fully upgraded gear. There is no reason not to let people just gear whatever they want and have fun at this point.

Savage is built such that getting good gear is a catchup mechanic that makes the fight a bit easier - this is a good system for players who don't clear in week 1/2 but gearing drags on frustratingly for months in order to retain players by annoying them. It would be more fun and enjoyable for everyone if there were alternate gearing methods released around week 8 of savage.

Indeed, and the excessive body checks are another issue. But gear does help with tight dps checks, sloppy mitigation, the occasional recoverable death etc. It's a simple fact that we have gearing as part of the savage gameplay loop and that many players are aided in their clears by gear.

Good gear makes you skip more mechanics which increases your chances of clearing. You can absolutely raise zombie through P10S with bis while you can only zombie maybe 4-5 deaths in full crafted.

I'm excluded from playing a variety of content with all roles because gearing is a pain in the ass. I don't give a shit about the numbers, I just want to join the 650/660 EX PF party that's only missing a healer, but my healer gear sucks
Scion dating would have been better than the island sanctuary. You could have made it be some daily quests you do together with them, get some cool little cutscenes and maybe even reference your choice in the MSQ in some subtle way. I legit can no fathom why they wouldn't go that step, even FFVII had a dating mechanic.
They are running out of excuses not to do it. Y'shtola is involved in so many different plot threads by now that offing her would be completely impossible. We know the Twins will never croak and neither will G'raha. It is even easier for situational NPC's like Yugiri who is only relevant for any Doma related stuff.
I wish they just let it happen already, with as much shit as the WoL and the scions have been through together it seems natural that the WoL would develop a romantic relationship with at least of them

FFXVI was the game that finally made me accept that Yoshi P is a massive hack and onetrick pony. He did one good thing in XIV which worked for most of the maingame and Heavensward and since then he just kept doing the same shit over and over and over and over again. He did it so much that he even somehow managed to do a full singleplayer actiongame that STILL feels like his usual shit.
It constantly fricks with the pacing to make you spend three hours every time you enter a new town sucking up to the villagers with FFXIV sidequests. The periods between eikon battles really just feel like you're playing FFXIV.
It was really mediocre to begin with, and it ultimately failed due to poor platform decisions, and somehow managed to take FFXIV with it, since these moronic Black folk though it would be a good idea to leave a subscription-based MMORPG just dusting on a shelf for 2 years without content

Octopath Traveler 2 is a better FF game than any FF since X maybe XII, I haven't thought about it enough. The turn-based thing is so fricking stupid
It has some major pacing issues throughout the main story, which is exasperated if you like doing side content for extra character and world lore and whatnot, but up until the last like 10 to 15 hours of the game the side quests are pretty terrible. Basically the highs are so high that when you're then made to spend 6 hours after one doing literal mmo tier fetch quests it sours the experience. Also the base difficulty of the game is way too easy and the unlockable difficulty has too much health bloat, the game desperately needs a KH Critical mode style difficulty option.

Is this your headcanon? Cause in the scene that played in the game she gives a generic "make amends" speech, Vrtra says he can't forgive him, and then they leave. Later on she explains why Durante isn't there and says that she can bring Durante there so he can apologize if Vrtra wants, to which Vrtra declines.
I'm not sure how you came to your unhinged interpretation of that scene, but I'm guessing it has to do with a lack of meds or you're ovulating.

loot lockouts are role based so you can repeat fights on different roles and not frick people over
loot lockouts in general are lifted MUCH earlier, at the latest by the next major patch preferably earlier
once youve bought something with a particular floors books the prices for items bought with that book are halved
all tomestone costs are halved
crafted gear introduced for floors 4-8/9-12 are the same item level as the previous savage series (ie 1-4/4-8) rather than a higher item level so that spending the time to achieve bis isnt completely useless outside of on-patch ultimate prog (note: crafted gear would still technically be better because of penta melding but the difference would be minute and min ilvl is already balanced around not penta melding according to the devs)
I like you ideas but also, basically nothing change if you're just new to raid a new tier with your suggestion, aside from >all tomestone costs are halved
Gearing is not just savage and should still come from other piece of content (and I'm not talking about tomestone gears, which is just specific stats you can't change).
I would add
The 24man should drop 660 gear with different stat allocations. Variant should drop tokens, Criterion should drop fully upgraded gear. There is no reason not to let people just gear whatever they want and have fun at this point.

and also forcing you to buy all new crafted gear every single series is annoying and is only there to incentivize you to keep your sub up and grind gil

I did a blind from start PF last night and we got to at least 50% success rate on meteors after seeing it a few times, maybe more at the end. Really this is nothing compared to Sweeping Immolation on Rubicante which I saw at best 15% success rate in most PFs

What would be the point of a green mage? It was originally a buffer, debuffer. Just being a caster dps seems like an odd implementation. Doesn't seem like they want to go beyond the classic split even if some jobs do lean more in the buffer direction.

They actually do. Triplecast/Swiftcast works with PLD spells for instance. It's just that there are a lot of buffs that only work in conjunction with abilities from their original job, but any buff that stands on its own works fine.

Apparently the devs are trying to fix buff limits but they've clearly fricked up something deep here. Some screenshots have buffs belonging to jobs which aren't even in the party.

No, because it's an online game. That makes it more complicated as you have to handle communication (packets) between the clients and server.
You can't just "increase the integer" when dealing with specific data packets with tight specifications designed to transmit and or store certain amount of data per unit of time
It's also why they can't just easily increase inventory space
It also limits the number of character customisations possible because the server transmits EVERY character's face,hair,nose,colours,etc to every other character in the zone every single tick. Which is why it was a massive undertaking to do something as simple as adding midlander stubble in EW.

It won't just be "an integer", it will be to do with the total packet size or something. These things can get complex when you're transmitting and syncing data multiple times per second. Also japs are infamously bad at netcode and SE are working on 10+ yr/old spaghetti engine code where the original programmers have probably fricked off years ago.

Everything to do with character creation, inventory, and Hrothgar/Viera limitations also winds dopwn to "just increasing an integer". But because of the game's shitty core netcode, increasing an integer causes all kinds of problems.

The EX and Savage are developed alongside the normal modes, and use the same assets and code. You're really not saving much dev time in exchange for killing content that a lot of the playerbase actually does engage with. Savage engagement is around 20%, and extreme is higher than that.
Cut out content and you lose players, then even the turbocasuals will notice when their friendslists and FCs are suddenly all offline.
This but also for fishing, crafting, custom deliveries, hunts, sidequests, triple triad, and all other optional content. We should only have MSQ, cashshop glams and Limsa AFK because that's the content with high engagement.
Ultimate is literally the longest living content in the game. How many UCOB PFs you see compared to an EX from just a few months ago.

But yes you'll have to suffer listening to endless arguments about that shit because melee uptime totally matters on a weekly meme fight that no one sane even parses.
The thing is that the clock position spreads are completely arbitrary, except for that one point. The other times when you do it there are no targets to attack
I think at the start of the fight you use them for the mini lightnings. Yes anyone sane could do that without murdering the MT even if the overall positions were melee NE/NW but it's PF so don't expect sanity.
Ranged shouldn't go NW/NE either because the boss cleaves right before it. Just spread around in the south

Remember back before Endwalker when people used macros, and sometimes you'd get macros that were slightly different and sometimes the PF leader would even warn you about it and tell you to check your positions to make sure where you go.

The 24man should drop 660 gear with different stat allocations. Variant should drop tokens, Criterion should drop fully upgraded gear. There is no reason not to let people just gear whatever they want and have fun at this point.

Savage is built such that getting good gear is a catchup mechanic that makes the fight a bit easier - this is a good system for players who don't clear in week 1/2 but gearing drags on frustratingly for months in order to retain players by annoying them. It would be more fun and enjoyable for everyone if there were alternate gearing methods released around week 8 of savage.
good gear isn't going to make you do body checks better, give a tank enough hp to not have to invuln, etc
Indeed, and the excessive body checks are another issue. But gear does help with tight dps checks, sloppy mitigation, the occasional recoverable death etc. It's a simple fact that we have gearing as part of the savage gameplay loop and that many players are aided in their clears by gear.
Good gear makes you skip more mechanics which increases your chances of clearing. You can absolutely raise zombie through P10S with bis while you can only zombie maybe 4-5 deaths in full crafted.

Scion dating would have been better than the island sanctuary. You could have made it be some daily quests you do together with them, get some cool little cutscenes and maybe even reference your choice in the MSQ in some subtle way. I legit can no fathom why they wouldn't go that step, even FFVII had a dating mechanic.

It has some major pacing issues throughout the main story, which is exasperated if you like doing side content for extra character and world lore and whatnot, but up until the last like 10 to 15 hours of the game the side quests are pretty terrible. Basically the highs are so high that when you're then made to spend 6 hours after one doing literal mmo tier fetch quests it sours the experience. Also the base difficulty of the game is way too easy and the unlockable difficulty has too much health bloat, the game desperately needs a KH Critical mode style difficulty option.

loot lockouts are role based so you can repeat fights on different roles and not frick people over
loot lockouts in general are lifted MUCH earlier, at the latest by the next major patch preferably earlier
once youve bought something with a particular floors books the prices for items bought with that book are halved
all tomestone costs are halved
crafted gear introduced for floors 4-8/9-12 are the same item level as the previous savage series (ie 1-4/4-8) rather than a higher item level so that spending the time to achieve bis isnt completely useless outside of on-patch ultimate prog (note: crafted gear would still technically be better because of penta melding but the difference would be minute and min ilvl is already balanced around not penta melding according to the devs)

i think the initial gearing period for each savage series is pretty much fine for the most part, my issue is that it shouldn’t take an additional 8 weeks to gear a second job
the entire play any job on one character system is completely pointless when you cannot effectively play a second job on your character until your first job is finished or you just dont care about fricking over other peoples chests
and also forcing you to buy all new crafted gear every single series is annoying and is only there to incentivize you to keep your sub up and grind gil

If you just don't obsess over powerlevel shenanigans it can be fine.
