Indeed, there's not a drought for hardcore raid content. There's only been a drought of fun content. Fortunately other good games have released this year.

What sort of content would entertain you?
I did play savage for most of the expansion and it was /okay/. But the most fun stuff has been extremes (especially in week 1), fishing, experiencing the new alliance and normal raids for the first time, and chatting with friends. I'm not going to do raiding ever again unless they make major changes to it so I'll probably end up being one of those players who subs for one month a year to catch up on what's new, and just keep in touch with my friends out of game.
IMO the biggest missed opportunity and thing that would have kept me more engaged is Criterion. They should have released it at extreme level and with a low ilvl sync instead of savage level and requiring BiS (or close to BiS), and had Criterion (Savage) be the Savage/Ulti level one. And given weekly rewards from clearing it (twines/shines/not-quite-bis-gear/tokens to buy mounts/etc). It would be a great reason to log and play fun content in a similar model to Unreal (which is a underrated part of the game).
It's an MMO, they're not meant to be entertaining they're meant to fool morons into staying subscribed with mindless skinnerbox bullshit. FFXIV just happens to have a mostly good story.

However the thing I enjoy doing most in post patch content is relic weapons. I like the accomplishment of finishing one when it's relevant.
Endwalker has failed in this regard. The Manderville weapons are not relic weapons. They're tomestone weapons with some cutscenes tacked on.

I've been working on ARR Relics. I've only done one Zeta prior back then. So this is 5th Animus out of 9 done.

Completionistgay, for two characters, played since 1.0. For example, both characters currently have all fish caught currently, including Ocean fishing.
I do need to do Criterion (second one), and actually do Eureka Orthos solo. But getting all Relics was a long time goal of mine that I've wanted to do forever.
I'm not a fan of the ridiculous achievements like the S-rank Hunts, or Mentor Roulette stuff. I just like completing various things for my characters.
Plus it was fun to optimize doing Animus books, I could knock out a book in 40-50 minutes.

This happens in every expansion. There's always a large gap between the last patch and the big next release. The problem is EW is focusing a lot of attention onto island sanctuary when most people abandoned that shit hard, and Criterion/Variants and Deep Dungeon only mattered for a week before people fricked off. There's not much replayable shit that isn't doing the same Raids over and over as a result.
It's never been this bad because they forced it back to summer release.
Keep in mind patch cycles used to be 3 months, then 3.5 months, now 4 months.
Then they started splitting patches in half to spread content out so you don't even get to play everything on patch day.

Fricking nothing. Dragonflight is constantly on sale and has multiple free trial weekends because it has completely failed to entice players to return. There's a new patch soon with a new raid, who cares.
Classic recently introduced the WoW token, which a lot of people were worried would happen and now it has. They're going to introduce Dungeon Finder in the final phase of WotLK Classic, cementing that it is in fact retail lite.
Classic Hardcore was a popular gimmick for a bit, I guess because leveling is the most fun part of the game and there you get to do it over and over forever.
The only way the final boss of the 24-man won't disappoint me is we fight all the 12 at once.

SE makes sure to give older content some severe expiration dates thanks to action pruning, potency and stat bloat, and lack of item level sync. If it's not recent content it doesn't fully count because SE is intentionally limiting any enjoyment you could have squeezed out of it.

I don't know if maybe you're getting unlucky because the npcs are scripted to frick up occasionally, but here's a trick in case it's not just that. Follow Y'shtola every time, she does every mechanic right. It's designed so if you just stack with her you should win.

Imps stand in front of Ultros and tank his aquabreaths to build stacks, then punch Typhon to deplete his stacks while he's charging his super sneeze to cancel it.
Absorbing Ultros's aqua breath gives you stacks that you use to hit Typhon and stop him from sneasing.
You use Arm's Length on ultros final attack.

What does the color difference mean?
Blue is the number of characters with the first recorded achievement in that time period.

The problem isn't that nobody dies. It's that characters keep having these weird fakeout deaths that are clearly meant to elicit an emotional response from the player but are almost immediately undone. Having everyone live is fine. Having everyone die is also fine. Having every major character having dramatic, heart-wrenching "sacrifices" that are instantly retconned just gets silly after the 3rd or 4th time it happens.
