They were hardER before we lost TP (mostly because it was tougher to keep AoE rotations going), but never particularly much more difficult than a dungeon without (Hard).

Furthermore I'm sure they understood or could easily figure out that blasting it with light might do something but doing so would require them to stop their own plans for rejoining the first part way and then hijack all of that aether to maybe have a chance at doing it.
It's bad writing that the only people really aware of a thing didn't do it because their means of doing so was questionable and they didn't even want to in the first place and then we come along, murder them, hijack their resources and then potentially use methods they didn't have in the first place to do the thing?
A thing that I'll add we don't even know we're doing next patch because it's entirely possible after we're done we'll just have set things in motion and it'll take time for things to actually take effect, or maybe won't even happen because this is all speculation based on a title and and splash art?

It's why HW and especially SHB are praised, because they're the closest to self-contained side-stories. That said, a lot of what happens in SHB opened tge floodgates to retroactively ruining the games overall plot and setting. People just forget because they only remember the cool and kino moments. HW was the same to a lesser extent, but on a smaller retcon scale by making Ysayle less of a fanatic, undoing the Bloody Banquet, and turning a xenophobic orthodoxy into a city full of curiosity and courtesy for you beyond what should've been a royal family proving shelter.

The Ul'dah plotlines resolution was pretty sloppy and felt as if it ended with Lolorito going "lol it was just a prank bro" but with that said I don't think it counts as a retcon. There's a 1.0 plotline involving Eoldande Quiveron and Lolorito pulls a similar trick with sleeping poison there. I think it would have felt less bullshit if that foreshadowing made it into ARR somehow. Like having a sidequest that goes into what happened during that 1.0 plot.

Ysayle is a completely different character in HW it's really jarring when the last you see of her in ARR patches is cackling on the bridge screaming for the dragons to feed on the peasants.

takes the longest to get an actually fun rotation, especially in aoe. worst damage and yet despite being the guy with a shield is generally also the worst mitigating damage. all of your weird quirks are self defeating outside of being able to stock up multiple uses of sheltron. atrocious lore/questline and schizophrenic class aesthetic. if you like gladiator you probably like warrior more, if you want to be a cool knight you probably like drk more, if you want to be a guy with a magic sword that shoots holy lasers gnb has you covered with a questline that's actually about helping people.
bulwark just made it so PLD isn't noticeably behind the other 3 and let them rework sheltron so PLD isn't screwed by bleed effects unless they can convince their cotank to swap short cooldowns with them. pressing literally every non party mitigation + rampart, pld takes 29% damage. that's pretty cool, but gnb is hitting 36%, and if its a physical hit and you get a parry proc from camo its 30% of the normal damage. gnb also heals nearly twice as much as the pld is from sheltron with corundum + aurora, and camo lasts twice as long as bulwark. and gnb has a heal + shield on their 123 combo they do constantly while pld either isn't healing at all outside of clemency or only during their spells. war kitchen sink is 40% along with all their healing. even drks 45% on physical hits (36 on magic) is pretty good given how the fat tbn shield scales with mitgation much better then taking an extra 10-15% less damage does and their mindless 123 spam is a surprisingly large amount of sustained healing even if they don't have any panic options. all 3 of these tanks also have better invulns then pld and do more damage.
and all of this autism assumes you're using literally every mit on 1 move, you aren't, and even if you're just trying to prove a point and no sell a move warrior is better at this because they synergize with scholar shield

I like paladins so none of this stuff applies to me. As a new player I agree it's taking a bit too long to get fun damage skills though, but I already have my hands full keeping mitigation up while attacking

You do realize XIV is fomo central despite always advertising itself as no content left behind, right? Old content has been massively powercrept due to sync and it's unfun to play because you have no buttons before level 80 now, soon to be all content below level 90 is a chore by this time next year. A good 85% of the game rendered useless because Yoshida isn't concerned with longevity. Sure, you have unsync mount farm, but is that really how you want to experience the game? Killing everything in a minute while you watch netflix on your second monitor? Eureka and Boxja will be ghost towns that not even F2P will save, there's just no point to doing them as a new player because you missed out.
Even when it comes to relevant content there's always a rush to clear it all within the first couple weeks or else you're left behind. PvP ranking? Better git Diamomf at the minimum within a week or you'll never get to play ranked for 3/4th of the patch. Savage? Better clear by week 4 minimum or else you'll be stuck with shitters and you'll be blacklisted for late parses.

nin can instakill at 49%, sam deals 100% of your HP if you hit him while he's buffed and he subsequently gets you with his ult. you'll live if you have a shield but if the sam's any good he'll stun and follow up with something that hits hard.
if you're playing RW or FL and see a DRK rushing your team, run away or shield if you get caught. ~60% odds of his buddies following up with a team killing combo of ultimates, no way to survive this without shielding at the right time and hoping it snapshotted before they pressed their buttons

The whole point was that it was legal and that old pre-Garlemald Doma wasn't all sunshine and rainbows for everyone and even if her response was disproportionate, Yotsuyu's hatred wasn't entirely unjustified. Nobody on the Doman side was upset he had been running a brothel, even the guy was only afraid because he happened to put specifically her to work.

Yeah they remade it, made the ices spawn faster and constantly, so technically it's a lot more PVE based now since you constantly have to go chase for ices.
Also they are reworking secure because it was basically a shitfest where only DRK, MCH and MNK had fun pushing people off, so now it's deactivated so there's only Seal rock, Shatter and Onsal swapping every day.
I don't mind the faster spawns, but the map design feels like it really took a hit

The Banquet and WoD were far less egregious than black rose and lunar primals. Especially because the banquet happens at the very end, its not pulling your dick for three patches. WoD was mostly a nothingburger before 5.0, but it's still self-contained and sheds more light on the state of other worlds.

G'raha himself said when introducing her that Feo Ul was a different pixie, that she was far more able to interact with mortals. Feo Ul offered it as a choice. Anden's pixie didn't.

Bros I'm on the Heavensward patches and I don't know if this game is for me. Every xpac has like 10 hours of patches to grind through and they're all boring as frick. Not sure if I can handle doing this 3 more times. Is the carrot at the end worth it?

HW patches are the peak of that expansion, if you still don't like it after Revenge of the Horde or Far Edge of Fate then yeah it's probably not for you. Because you'll have to still do that for SB when it becomes F2P and SHB and EW if you decide to ever buy it, which sounds unlikely already.

the story is just too long, one of them was skipping the other wasn't, the skipping one never got to endwalker and got lost in roulettes, eventually got bored and quit
the one that didn't skip the story was burnt out by the end of it and took him like 2 months total at a regular pace of playing
the main problem both had wasn't the story but instead in my opinion was that they lacked a goal or didn't focus on one, you need to know what you want out of this game before you finish the msq, if you want to do just the story then keep playing msq, if you want casual fun then you can probably ignore it or go about it slowly, if you want to just do endgame content i think it might be better to buy a skip >Is the carrot at the end worth it?

6.4 Zero was better because there was no more "muh payments" bullshit that they can't keep track of and tearing down her passivity means she actually had a couple nice scenes, but instead it was brought down by how fricking stupid the whole Golbez plan turned out to be. I see a lot of grumbling concessions even from the people that hate it that it's pretty playable, and it's inarguably the most stable the job's design has ever been (it hasn't been massively reworked at all this expansion)

"hard mode" dungeons were basically just new dungeons using some of the locations from an already existing dungeon. they were never hard
They were hardER before we lost TP (mostly because it was tougher to keep AoE rotations going), but never particularly much more difficult than a dungeon without (Hard).

The cure to tempering was the last straw that broke my investment into the setting. After that, none of the characteristics of the universe that originally got me interested remained.
The tempering cure was a thing since Gabu, but post-SHB and EW rushed it and nearly tied it with a bow just for an epic avengers moment.

I like how everyone apparently forgets the cure to tempering was only found thanks to a Nu Mou on the First, which Eorzeans didn't exactly have access to.
They didn't want to restore the 13th they wanted it's aether to rejoin with the source. Furthermore I'm sure they understood or could easily figure out that blasting it with light might do something but doing so would require them to stop their own plans for rejoining the first part way and then hijack all of that aether to maybe have a chance at doing it.
They didn't want to because they didn't need full rejoining to summon Zodiark anyways. It's just bad writing.

XIV's story is a fricking mess when you look at it as a whole. It's honestly why I think it's very overrated.
It's why HW and especially SHB are praised, because they're the closest to self-contained side-stories. That said, a lot of what happens in SHB opened tge floodgates to retroactively ruining the games overall plot and setting. People just forget because they only remember the cool and kino moments. HW was the same to a lesser extent, but on a smaller retcon scale by making Ysayle less of a fanatic, undoing the Bloody Banquet, and turning a xenophobic orthodoxy into a city full of curiosity and courtesy for you beyond what should've been a royal family proving shelter.
The Ul'dah plotlines resolution was pretty sloppy and felt as if it ended with Lolorito going "lol it was just a prank bro" but with that said I don't think it counts as a retcon. There's a 1.0 plotline involving Eoldande Quiveron and Lolorito pulls a similar trick with sleeping poison there. I think it would have felt less bullshit if that foreshadowing made it into ARR somehow. Like having a sidequest that goes into what happened during that 1.0 plot.
Ysayle is a completely different character in HW it's really jarring when the last you see of her in ARR patches is cackling on the bridge screaming for the dragons to feed on the peasants.

What's wrong with PLD?
takes the longest to get an actually fun rotation, especially in aoe. worst damage and yet despite being the guy with a shield is generally also the worst mitigating damage. all of your weird quirks are self defeating outside of being able to stock up multiple uses of sheltron. atrocious lore/questline and schizophrenic class aesthetic. if you like gladiator you probably like warrior more, if you want to be a cool knight you probably like drk more, if you want to be a guy with a magic sword that shoots holy lasers gnb has you covered with a questline that's actually about helping people.
Not really the worst at mit since they brought back Bulwark. The only caveat is needing autos for Sheltron.
bulwark just made it so PLD isn't noticeably behind the other 3 and let them rework sheltron so PLD isn't screwed by bleed effects unless they can convince their cotank to swap short cooldowns with them. pressing literally every non party mitigation + rampart, pld takes 29% damage. that's pretty cool, but gnb is hitting 36%, and if its a physical hit and you get a parry proc from camo its 30% of the normal damage. gnb also heals nearly twice as much as the pld is from sheltron with corundum + aurora, and camo lasts twice as long as bulwark. and gnb has a heal + shield on their 123 combo they do constantly while pld either isn't healing at all outside of clemency or only during their spells. war kitchen sink is 40% along with all their healing. even drks 45% on physical hits (36 on magic) is pretty good given how the fat tbn shield scales with mitgation much better then taking an extra 10-15% less damage does and their mindless 123 spam is a surprisingly large amount of sustained healing even if they don't have any panic options. all 3 of these tanks also have better invulns then pld and do more damage.
and all of this autism assumes you're using literally every mit on 1 move, you aren't, and even if you're just trying to prove a point and no sell a move warrior is better at this because they synergize with scholar shield

I like paladins so none of this stuff applies to me. As a new player I agree it's taking a bit too long to get fun damage skills though, but I already have my hands full keeping mitigation up while attacking

PLD is absolutely a more fun experience up until higher end raids where the 7 minutes on Hallowed actually becomes an issue.

You can use Passage of Arms like an ogcd and it lasts for a good 5 seconds.

Old content has been massively powercrept due to sync and it's unfun to play because you have no buttons before level 80 now, soon to be all content below level 90 is a chore by this time next year. A good 85% of the game rendered useless because Yoshida isn't concerned with longevity. Sure, you have unsync mount farm, but is that really how you want to experience the game? Killing everything in a minute while you watch netflix on your second monitor? Eureka and Boxja will be ghost towns that not even F2P will save, there's just no point to doing them as a new player because you missed out.
Even when it comes to relevant content there's always a rush to clear it all within the first couple weeks or else you're left behind. PvP ranking? Better git Diamomf at the minimum within a week or you'll never get to play ranked for 3/4th of the patch. Savage? Better clear by week 4 minimum or else you'll be stuck with shitters and you'll be blacklisted for late parses.

I would advice you to go to the wolves den and set up your bar first, like put all your skills and especially your dispel, recuperate, elixir and guard.
Also hit up the dummies first to see what your pvp kit can do.
If you're ever below 50% HP and there is a Ninja around, you're dead.
do not drop below 50% HP near a ninja, do not hit into a samurai's blue buff without full health and a shield
nin can instakill at 49%, sam deals 100% of your HP if you hit him while he's buffed and he subsequently gets you with his ult. you'll live if you have a shield but if the sam's any good he'll stun and follow up with something that hits hard.
if you're playing RW or FL and see a DRK rushing your team, run away or shield if you get caught. ~60% odds of his buddies following up with a team killing combo of ultimates, no way to survive this without shielding at the right time and hoping it snapshotted before they pressed their buttons

Hien not seeing anything wrong with monsters that are helpful to him is entirely within character. He's nobility, the peasants exist to serve him.
The whole point was that it was legal and that old pre-Garlemald Doma wasn't all sunshine and rainbows for everyone and even if her response was disproportionate, Yotsuyu's hatred wasn't entirely unjustified. Nobody on the Doman side was upset he had been running a brothel, even the guy was only afraid because he happened to put specifically her to work.

Yeah they remade it, made the ices spawn faster and constantly, so technically it's a lot more PVE based now since you constantly have to go chase for ices.
Also they are reworking secure because it was basically a shitfest where only DRK, MCH and MNK had fun pushing people off, so now it's deactivated so there's only Seal rock, Shatter and Onsal swapping every day.
I don't mind the faster spawns, but the map design feels like it really took a hit

The Banquet and WoD were far less egregious than black rose and lunar primals. Especially because the banquet happens at the very end, its not pulling your dick for three patches. TOP is the worst ultimate, with p1 being the worst phase from all fights I did in this game. I did all ultimates before starting TOP and this one feels like is designed to make you hate this game, if the next ultimate is like that I'm 100% skipping that shit.

The build-up patches can be pretty boring but the payoff is usually worth it
HW patches are the peak of that expansion, if you still don't like it after Revenge of the Horde or Far Edge of Fate then yeah it's probably not for you. Because you'll have to still do that for SB when it becomes F2P and SHB and EW if you decide to ever buy it, which sounds unlikely already.

i had 2 friends that tried this game this year, they both got all the expansions
the story is just too long, one of them was skipping the other wasn't, the skipping one never got to endwalker and got lost in roulettes, eventually got bored and quit
the one that didn't skip the story was burnt out by the end of it and took him like 2 months total at a regular pace of playing
the main problem both had wasn't the story but instead in my opinion was that they lacked a goal or didn't focus on one, you need to know what you want out of this game before you finish the msq, if you want to do just the story then keep playing msq, if you want casual fun then you can probably ignore it or go about it slowly, if you want to just do endgame content i think it might be better to buy a skip

The Scions have no precedent for this kind of situation and no real maneuver space. Throwing porxies at Zeromus seems kind of futile.
