We all like modbeasts. FFXIV is a core game in the “coom ‘n goon” genre. According to Reddit, the forums, and Ganker, a majority of people use mods. If SE banned mods, they would lose about half of the game’s population. So we like them. Also, modbeasting is the antithesis of WoW, and FFXIV’s whole purpose is to be the anti-WoW.
If it was forced in my face I would care but I never heard or seen it, you have to understand people on Ganker go out of their way to post this shit and actively look for it.
It's not that there are a lot of them, it's that they are all concentrated in the major player hubs and they are usually also your average roulette hero as in, they spend 5x more time doing roulettes than your average player and most of the burger crowns are also mod beasts (I know, shocking right?) since their either play the game like it's a job or don't want to bother with "difficult" stuff in the game.

Good. And? No one wants to deal with people anymore. Everyone agrees that single player games are better anyway. Luckily, socialization in FFXIV is opt-in for the very few people who want it. You just have to download a few free plugins and mods and you’re good to go. Otherwise, enjoy the story by yourself (I cried over 20 times).
I doubt that, I play on light and before I quit halfway through EW it wasn't uncommon to see players either post their "code" in their bio or allude to the fact that they use mare, usually by either just having the word "MARE" somewhere in the bio or by writing something akin to "~theehee! I played FFXI. I played FFXIV 1.0. I played ARR for awhile and then dropped in now and again; I only really came back at the end of ShB. I can't fricking believe the itemshop. The abortion I saw coming back at the end of ShB was infuriating. Its not just the amount of stuff, expense,orfrequency...that's bad enough. However the stuff you cant just buy on the store is worse - the frickload of minions locked behind artbooks and other physical collectibles. I wanted a yotsuyu minion because I like her design with the kiseru and thought oh, it will be unlocked somewhere... NOFRICKYOU if you didn't buy an artbook its gone. Even worse for things like the statues. $400 fricking dollar statues. Sold out statues - that's fine in and of itself. However linking them to unique emotes? What the frick is wrong with people? Look, I'd be fine if this stuff came as a BONUS or even was released first with these physical collectibles, to show up in the game another way next patch after their release or something but frick this is insane.
I used to love MMOs back in the day when you paid for a subscription and got all the content including cosmetics. This shit is just increasingly grating. WoW shits the bed in so many ways but at least on item shop shit its better and they're making their old CCG loot items given away for free for like watching Twitch or some shit. Frick.
Conceptually its a problem yeah, but that's slightly better if truet han having to buy them on ebay code-only for $60+. If the ones on Amazon actually have the code and are not book only I'd consider it simply to have a collection of coffee table books. Is the same true for any of the albums or other physical collectibles that have a digital thing ?
Putting aside the price,it seems odd to me that SE is willing to allow you to always upgrade to the Collector's Edition even of an old expansion, but the don't keep the physical items in print and/or at least move their digital components to the item shop . I mean, it was shitty as frick that the physical attendees to the LasVegas Fan Fest 2023 did NOT get all the in-game items included, but at least they put them on the item mall.
They have the code if you buy new directly from amazon. Some sellers will also list if the code is used or not. If it is, you can just get a refund. I don't know about the albums or plushies though as I never bought them.
It seems like what we really need is something kind of like mare, but for official content. It'd unlock all minions/mounts/emotes client side, using some default bullshit as far as the server was concerned, and then everyone else using the plugin would also see what you do.

I think I get what you mean with that. Better in that they're no longer driven against a wall with no way to further develop EW DRG.
But apart from that, EW was probably the best, most well-oiled version of DRG.
It functions extremely well but Jump receives less and less importance or fanfare over time, like it's used every 30s and you get the clunkiest move-to-target skill with Spineshatter but there's now no separation between Jump and High Jump (for the better, I am not actually complaining about this part) and Dragonfire Dive has always sucked and Stardiver is cool for the novelty but thematically strange with Dragoon the further and further it drifts away from actually using Nidhogg or Estinien as a base for skills
At absolute worst I could see them translating more of Dragoon's excised gameplay ideas off to another melee the same way Reaper absorbed Heavy Thrust and Sole Survivor from Dragoon and Dark Knight and put it towards a job that's probably based on Marluxia from Kingdom Hearts

What sort of attacks do you feel WHM is missing? I feel like a lot of healers could use more offensive skills honestly, especially if they also contribute to healing indirectly somehow
i go back and forth on it, but i think like to see something similar to the low level BLM procs. Maybe a proc from Holy or Glare that turns my next Dia into an AoE, to sort of bring back Aero III. Maybe some offensive bonuses from crit heals, and vice versa. anything to make the MSQ grind not the worst thing in the universe.
I mean, technically he's let it happen by designing the class to appeal to "HEALERS ADJUST" morons who couldn't slidecast to literally save their lives.

I think SE needs to focus on making players feel important again.
I was thinking just now why Endwalker feels so awful to play and it dawned on me that it’s because the game design is so bland I don’t feel like I or anyone matters anymore. It’s completely nihilistic and stale gameplay.
I am talking about normal content. As most of the game is normal content. For example our tank disconnected in Aerherfont, an expert dungeon and I tanked it as BLM while a very poorly geared SCH kept me alive. How poorly geared? Well he hasn’t played since he finished EW and only bought enough pieces in the market board to get his ilvl high enough. Did not meld them either.
So… people don’t needs tanks, they don’t need healers, and they sure don’t need DPS, then all we have is depression as a player. You don’t make a difference. Not really. And this is sad.
I know most of these elements were implemented because people felt too much pressure as a healer or tank, or didn’t want to fail or whatever. They tried to make it so people feel safe. But safety isn’t fun. By doing this the developers also took away the chance for players to shine and pull through. For people to notice and recognize who’s good at their job. None of this exists now. Everyone is indifferent to everyone.
In a quest to avoid conflict in their game at all costs they did not create happiness or success. They created silence and indifference. Before, in dungeons like the burn sure if a player wasn’t able to clear after several wipes people would get mad, or at orbonne monastery, but they also knew joy when things were completed. This is because people recognized that things took effort and well… they made a difference. People were important.
I hope the allied tribal quest is nice. 🙂

Modding doesn't actually change the underlying hair/face/ear separations at all which is what the problem stems from
They're programmed in such a way that the increased customization options come from applying those separable parts to the in-game head slot, which is why headgear has to be specifically modeled around viera and hrothgar and they'll sometimes give one race something but not the other race
It's very easy to say "well it's just an on/off switch on hats!" and yes, it is, problem being it looks like total shit and it deletes any hair you have underneath in a way that doesn't apply to the non-viera/hroth races
Male viera doesn't have these problems in its skeleton to the same degree but they still have hats disabled for parity with female viera, most likely when the problem is completely solved for male hrothgar and female viera they'll flip the switch on and both races will have complete parity
And yes this is a direct statement that "I fixed the hats!!! I did what Square Enix couldn't!!!" is a modder bending over double and riding their own wiener for all it's worth and everyone who puts them up on a high-chair for "fixing the races" should be put in a time-out chair instead

Very true but the underlying problem of it taking way too long still remains. Stormblood and Viera came out nearly 6 years ago and this is where I feel most logical peoples problems with the hat situation(and a lot of other things in this game) stem from. The dev team constantly pushes timelines past the point of a lot of peoples patience, like lets say they don't fix the hats in Dawntrail, that pushes it literally to nearly 9 years.

My only regret is they cancelled all DLC just before Aranea was going to get her own chapter. Dragoons always get the short end of the stick in action games and ARPGs.

The abortion I saw coming back at the end of ShB was infuriating. Its not just the amount of stuff, expense,orfrequency...that's bad enough. However the stuff you cant just buy on the store is worse - the frickload of minions locked behind artbooks and other physical collectibles. I wanted a yotsuyu minion because I like her design with the kiseru and thought oh, it will be unlocked somewhere... NOFRICKYOU if you didn't buy an artbook its gone. Even worse for things like the statues. $400 fricking dollar statues. Sold out statues - that's fine in and of itself. However linking them to unique emotes? What the frick is wrong with people? Look, I'd be fine if this stuff came as a BONUS or even was released first with these physical collectibles, to show up in the game another way next patch after their release or something but frick this is insane.

Putting aside the price,it seems odd to me that SE is willing to allow you to always upgrade to the Collector's Edition even of an old expansion, but the don't keep the physical items in print and/or at least move their digital components to the item shop . I think I get what you mean with that. Better in that they're no longer driven against a wall with no way to further develop EW DRG.
But apart from that, EW was probably the best, most well-oiled version of DRG.
It functions extremely well but Jump receives less and less importance or fanfare over time, like it's used every 30s and you get the clunkiest move-to-target skill with Spineshatter but there's now no separation between Jump and High Jump (for the better, I am not actually complaining about this part) and Dragonfire Dive has always sucked and Stardiver is cool for the novelty but thematically strange with Dragoon the further and further it drifts away from actually using Nidhogg or Estinien as a base for skills
At absolute worst I could see them translating more of Dragoon's excised gameplay ideas off to another melee the same way Reaper absorbed Heavy Thrust and Sole Survivor from Dragoon and Dark Knight and put it towards a job that's probably based on Marluxia from Kingdom Hearts

That's part of what I'm hoping gets addressed is that Dragoon moves fairly freely, it's a job that fricking FLIES by doing Dissidia wall-kicks off of nothing and jumping a thousand miles into the air, and it has arguably some of the worst movement skills
It seems like they've been easing back on the job's animation locks for a little while now. Could be that they'll loosen it up a bit more.

i go back and forth on it, but i think like to see something similar to the low level BLM procs. Maybe a proc from Holy or Glare that turns my next Dia into an AoE, to sort of bring back Aero III. Maybe some offensive bonuses from crit heals, and vice versa. anything to make the MSQ grind not the worst thing in the universe.
Oh yeah getting crit heals giving you access to an instantcast attack would be cool.
Assize should be changed to a trait that does AoE damage centered on the target of any of your single-target heals.

I think SE needs to focus on making players feel important again.
I was thinking just now why Endwalker feels so awful to play and it dawned on me that it’s because the game design is so bland I don’t feel like I or anyone matters anymore. It’s completely nihilistic and stale gameplay.
I am talking about normal content. As most of the game is normal content. For example our tank disconnected in Aerherfont, an expert dungeon and I tanked it as BLM while a very poorly geared SCH kept me alive. How poorly geared? Well he hasn’t played since he finished EW and only bought enough pieces in the market board to get his ilvl high enough. Did not meld them either.
So… people don’t needs tanks, they don’t need healers, and they sure don’t need DPS, then all we have is depression as a player. You don’t make a difference. Not really. And this is sad.
I know most of these elements were implemented because people felt too much pressure as a healer or tank, or didn’t want to fail or whatever. They tried to make it so people feel safe. But safety isn’t fun. By doing this the developers also took away the chance for players to shine and pull through. For people to notice and recognize who’s good at their job. None of this exists now. Everyone is indifferent to everyone.
In a quest to avoid conflict in their game at all costs they did not create happiness or success. They created silence and indifference. Before, in dungeons like the burn sure if a player wasn’t able to clear after several wipes people would get mad, or at orbonne monastery, but they also knew joy when things were completed. This is because people recognized that things took effort and well… they made a difference. People were important.
I hope the allied tribal quest is nice. 🙂

Modding doesn't actually change the underlying hair/face/ear separations at all which is what the problem stems from
They're programmed in such a way that the increased customization options come from applying those separable parts to the in-game head slot, which is why headgear has to be specifically modeled around viera and hrothgar and they'll sometimes give one race something but not the other race
It's very easy to say "well it's just an on/off switch on hats!" and yes, it is, problem being it looks like total shit and it deletes any hair you have underneath in a way that doesn't apply to the non-viera/hroth races
Male viera doesn't have these problems in its skeleton to the same degree but they still have hats disabled for parity with female viera, most likely when the problem is completely solved for male hrothgar and female viera they'll flip the switch on and both races will have complete parity
And yes this is a direct statement that "I fixed the hats!!! I did what Square Enix couldn't!!!" is a modder bending over double and riding their own wiener for all it's worth and everyone who puts them up on a high-chair for "fixing the races" should be put in a time-out chair instead

Very true but the underlying problem of it taking way too long still remains. Stormblood and Viera came out nearly 6 years ago and this is where I feel most logical peoples problems with the hat situation(and a lot of other things in this game) stem from. The dev team constantly pushes timelines past the point of a lot of peoples patience, like lets say they don't fix the hats in Dawntrail, that pushes it literally to nearly 9 years.
Viera was Shadowbringers, Fran was a frankenskeleton in the Ivalice raid and wasn't updated to use Viera player skeletons

They're replacing the entire Japanese datacenter's servers and apparently doing maintenance on all the other ones. JP is pretty confused by the full equipment replacement since nobody's noticed any problems but I think what they're doing is upcycling the old and probably better JP equipment towards the other two major DCs.
