I hoped long ago that they'd scrap job quests at level 99 and spent those resources to develop job specific relic quests, but since they've scrapped job quests now too, I don't think we'll ever get anything like that either

DD are a complete waste of time that virtually no one does past the initial rush, where people are going to be farming cassie until the servers go down. DD are also not the tradeoff for forays (SB had both, ShB was supposed to have one but got cut), they're just a separate piece of content. If you haven't played any of the expansions that easily 60+ hours just to get through all the MSQ. But once you get to Endwalker it's as easy as buying crafted gear and it can be upgraded too with the last tier's tomes you get from running content, and alliance raids give you gear upgrades for stuff you buy with the current tome currency. But if you really wanted you could jump into savage raids with just crafted but most shitters nowadays lock the ilvl way above what's actually required to make up for the lack of skill.

Yeah they are a bit shorter but that is because the ARR aftermath is almost as long as a full expansion itself, if not longer.

Absolutely. You know how much more well-received this step would be if there was literally ANYTHING to it besides grinding tomes? Like it wouldn't even be that bad if the tomes remained as an alternative option as long as there was something else to it. FATE grinding IS boring but it's at the very least a change. Something like being able to get the Chondrites as a drop from Orthos 21-30 with the chance increasing as you go up floors, or being guaranteed upon clearing a Criterion run? People would be all over that shit and the required time investment wouldn't even be much different - especially since Orthos gives plentiful tomes so it would serve as a hard pity system if you get cucked by droprates.
I would just like to have an excuse to do something besides spam Hunt trains for the first time in god knows how many months.

Relics are obviously easier, but EO seems like it would be way more fun. I never did solo any DD before though.
EO is definitely the most enjoyable to solo since HoH and POTD are 100% luck-based to solo (along with POTD actually being somewhat difficult solo on top of that).

Ever since I switched from Gshade to Reshade, I've noticed most UI elements are slightly transparent. Black loading screens also show outlines of objects I'm not supposed to see yet. I'm using the Alive preset. Anyone else have this problem?
You ARE using the Gshade presets still, right? The whole reason it became popular originally was because of Keep/Restore UI which prevent exactly that from happening.

I feel like FFXIV would work better as a pure visual novel than a game. I hate playing it. Even with friends, I would rather play literally anything else. I'd even rather play fighting games, which I suck horribly at.
The weird thing is that I'm not sure why I bounce off FFXIV so hard. I've played a ton of objectively shittier MMOs (like almost everything Aeria Games published back in the day) but I like them way more than FFXIV. For some reason I feel like Aura Kingdom has way more charm and soul than FFXIV. I couldn't even be assed finishing ARR despite being close to the end. I stopped at the point where Cid wants you to dress up as Garlean soldiers to sneak into a base and rescue the Scions. But I don't give a shit about any of them and I think the Garleans are cooler.

Free trial didn't exist when I started. I'm not new to the game, I've just played EXTREMELY slowly. Like, once every 1 or 2 years I go "I guess I'll give FFXIV another shot" and immediately regret it. I got the game like 7 years ago? Might have been a bit more than that.
Fricking Titan is such a goddamn slog. Titan quests ate up like 2 or 3 subs alone because I just couldn't be bothered with the OBVIOUS fetch quest padding. I took so long doing Titan that by the time I was finally almost done with it, they made the Titan section shorter BUT NOT THE PARTS I WAS ON. I hated doing Titan so much I ended up getting a lv50-something botanist and doing a ton of gold saucer shit for a month instead.
you should just make a new account and start over on the trial. then you can play through the story for a while and there's no pressure to pay a sub.

In Gridania, there is a blue quest called The House That Death Built. It unlocks the Palace of the Dead deep dungeon, which is great for trying out how different classes work. First time you run it you start at level 1, but once you've reached floor 50 once, you can start a new run from there, as a level 50 version of whichever class you went in as, even if your real level is 1. So unlock that, visit the guilds to unlock all the classes, and go test what feels good to you.

You're half right, once you've reached floor 50 you get the option to start new runs from floor 51 instead of floor 1, with the appropriate character level for it.
Once you beat the lvl 50 boss you have the option of starting from lvl 51. You can't get the solo title unless you start from 1 though.

I did play Nioh 2. Big improvement over the first game and I liked using tonfa. I picked up the passive that increases power the more lighter you are and focus on evading only with no blocking. Its hard as shit but it's fun.
My only complaint is that the gear stats are fricking bizarre. You pick up like 10 weapons per stage and its always filled with useless shit like "+0.5% Amrita when in low stance" or something. It kinda drags the pacing down, having to constantly clear out my inventory of shit. And I always feel a little disappointed if I don't get anything good. I'd rather have much fewer drops but they're all relatively usable instead you know?
Did you know you can filter what you pick up? There's a QoL setting that lets you only pick up certain colors of gear like only purple and green. Also, you can change the perks on the gear via the blacksmith.
I was aware of the filter, but I kept it off so I could at least get dismantle shit and get 0.5 amrita and shit from it. I'm also aware of the skill thing at the blacksmith but....
....Because you're always picking up new shit in this game, part of me goes "why would you WASTE materials now when you could pick up something better later?". And then I do like 5 missions in a row with the same unoptimized gear.
imo the perks on the gear mean way more than anything else. it's all about having more slots for perks. That's it. Preferably you get a weapon with an elemental imbue, then that's all you need. Even low level weapons can do a lot of ki and regular damage with the right perks.

Well, you stopped at one of the worse parts of the story. And shortly before getting level 50 skills and content that actually lets you use them. I'd recommend trying to force yourself through the main story a bit more, until the first credits roll (you're not very far off), and then decide whether to keep going or drop it. The last few bits were revamped recently and give a pretty good hint of what the later parts of the game are like.
Second credits roll is the part where pretty much everyone who makes it that far is hooked for life, but there's quite a lot of patch story content between you and that, so don't try to force yourself that far if the stuff leading to the first roll left you completely cold.
And yeah novice network is useless, usually not because of the novices but because frickers want the mentor status as a status symbol, not because they're interested in mentoring at all.
It should be possible to vote mentors off the novice network. We really need to filter applicants. I once asked a question and was told to google it. And its like... why the frick are you guys even mentors? I couldn't even find an answer to my question. I wanted to know if I actually needed to wear the shitty armor pieces you get as part of the Garlean disguise, or if I can just turn them into glam and put it over my existing gear or I just need it in my inventory.
...huh. A question I actually don't know the answer to, having done those quests before the glam system existed. My advice would've been to use your normal stuff until the game actually gives you an error about needing to wear specific gear to proceed.

The Garlean disguise in ARR? You got to wear all the pieces, but you can wear other stuff with it. I thought it was amusing that my Bard was wearing the Garlean disguise while wearing the fricking clown pants from the 45 BRD quest.
Yeah mentors are trash for the most part and without fail some of the most own fart huffing pieces of shit in the game but what the frick is that question?
Yes you need to wear this disguise and others everytime they show up but it's almost always for just a single quest that takes like 5 min max. Seems a bit redundant to make them into glamour especially for short time.
I did indeed glamour all of them afterwards however.
Most quests involve a fight. I was worried I'd need to fight while wearing shitty gear and probably die, so I wanted to know if wearing it was mandatory or not.
For future reference, there will be other such disguise quests later, but if you pay attention to the dialogue other characters will tell you when it's safe to swap back to your normal gear. That's usually a sign the next leg of the quest will have combat in it.
