I found Black Mage more fun because I liked the feel of the explosions. It's a turret mage kind of playstyle which can make movement heavy fights difficult but I heard it has more mobility nowadays.

Stopped playing it after Shadowbringers because I was bored out of my mind, no excitement over loot, no builds, nothing to discover in the overworld. I just logged into Limsa, did some roulettes, weekly raids and that's it, it was like I was just going through the motions.
After a while I figured out the only funny thing about this game is the savage/ultimate raids, so 99% of the time I spent on it was basically me wasting my life not having fun, so I cancelled my sub and never looked back lol.
I meant it more like an alt. There are not subjobs on FFXIV that would take a lot of dev time and they don't like working at all.

Black Mage. I like playing jobs like a piano. Having to use everything in my hotbars to keep up the damage makes me feel great.
Summoner doesn't even get 'cool' until 90 when you can finally summon full size copies of the Primals for giant "FRICK YOU" blasts. It's also exceedingly basic and basically just gets things added to existing abilities instead of whole new ones past 50. Black Mage on the other hand is constantly getting new actual new shit and new ways to express "FRICK YOU" every 5-10 levels that can totally change how the job's rotations play out.
SMN did thier time with rotation changing considering the job got reworked every damn expansion.
Right now feels like the best balance of simplicity combined with job fantasy so far, but I'd like a little more flexability to the job other than choosing which jolly rancher to crunch first

BLM is harder to be good at and more punishing if you frick up, but the highest numbers of all the mages, and even higher than a couple of melee classes in a vacuum
SMN is a set rotation with a ton of mobility (only 2 hardcast spells, one of which you'll probably swiftcast anyway), kinda eh-tier visually while leveling but is really flashy looking at max level when you summon full size primals to do your skills for you.

Ownership is calculated based on characters who have been updated on the site in the past 3 months and possess at least one collectable in a given category.
These percentages are not a reflection of the entire playerbase, but rather a subset of players who are interested in collecting things. If you are looking to collect competitively, then this is probably the data you want.

WoW devs have found a really good way of making modding incredibly inconvenient: With every patch, they will change something in the way the WoW character models are held together. It doesn't affect the vanilla game at all but all mods just break and need to be re-examined in blender. They do that even in random hotfixes. Naturally modders lose interest in maintaining their shit really quickly.

That is due to the very slow server ticks tho. WoW refreshes really fast while XIV has this weirdly slow update pattern. I'd guess it is due to either cost saving on servers or some console shit. Or maybe a relic from the 1.0 days.

you dont even need mare for that, you only need to make a personal penumbra category for yourself.
Exactly an mare plugin uses penumbra category thing to sync other people's mods only with their characters so there are no conflicts like this at least
Mare creates a unique profile for each player and assigns it, which is why even if you have the same item replaced with a different thing, each player will see the proper replacement instead of the same thing.

A tank that switches between a hammer and greatshield. Give them the old Gauss Barrel treatment (a bit shorter like 1.5 charge) but can move like MCH/BRD in pvp. Changing requires mana. Line up your buffs and you'll be shielding and smashing so fast you'd make a Warrior and Paladin blush.

Being able to make builds is fun and fun is more important than balance. If something is balanced, but not fun, why bother?
At the end of an expansion you would have a ton of gear to mix and match and create different builds which would be fun as frick. They could even let you raise the ilvl of some gear from previous expansions so that could increase the amount of builds even further.
If you want to also, you could have a LEGACY mode where the gear has zero impact on your character like it has right now, so everything could be balanced in this mode. But in the RPG mode, you could have gear that changed the way you play and thus the game would be much more exciting and people would theorycraft for hours, which is what a good RPG is all about.
Autists would play the legacy mode and would be happy, rpg enjoyers would play the RPG mode, everyone would be happy.

and that's all a symptom of the fact that encounter design is so static and scripted that literally everything happens the same way at the same time. there's no adaptation. also the devs like any other eastern mmo want you to play the game their way and if you don't they screech and say that's not the way to do it and patch it. that's the reason why bosses instakill through invulns because rather than allow players to develop organic strategies based on skill interactions bosses are just designed around doing an 8 man ddr dance that has nothing to do with the abilities you bring to the fight. imagining an ff14 with half of the combat mechanics of almost any early ff game is just saddening.

in game bad breath has every boss resist some/all of the effects, at most you get a few of the weaker ones out 1-2 times before diminishing returns kicks in. The majority of your spells are generic ranged attacks with the exact same damage but slightly different elements/ailments that only matter for carnival fights as everything cool is ignored by any relevant enemy or has a massive cooldown like ultravibe

Even the Masked Carnivale enemies (i.e. the ones supposedly designed to be BLU fodder) started being immune to everything from level 60 onwards. Now Bad Breath is basically BLU Reprisal, but on the GCD, since the only effects that actually stick are the damage down and the beyond crappy DoT.
Only a BLU PVP mode can save us, BLUbros.

The game actively slows you down/eats your inputs depending on your latency. It has nothing to do with the latency its self (that only affects things the game does to you, not the other way around). While it would be perfectly capable of accepting all your inputs regardless of latency, it literally says "Nope, your latency is X, I can't accept this right now". So what Alex and NoClippy do is telling the game "My latency is really low!" and XIV is "Oh cool, go ahead then." It is very literally what WoW has been using since the beginning.
So all it does is resolve a literal artificial slowdown the game imposes on you the further you are away from the server.
I don't actually have direct familiarity with the tool because I live close to the datacenters of my region, so I've never used it.
What I find embarrassing is the fact that so many people are using what amounts to a cheating program, just to get the game to work as intended, because the tonedeaf devs refuse to fix their shitty animation lock code.
My favorite thing about FFXIV devs is that every single attempt on the part of the playerbase to get them to understand the problems with their netcode (such as re-applying your animation lock after your client receiving a response from the server) has been met with Yoshida being like "huh???" and not understanding the issue at all.

Play WAR/DRK and DRG/BRD, you fricking homosexual.
You can play them all so just test them and see what happens, it's not like you're in a rush against time anyway right? That said BLM and SMN are complete opposites where it comes to gameplay. SMN is extremely simple and mobile, and easy to keep your DPS maxed no matter what is going on. You generally just rotate between a few buttons and that's it. It's basically very similar to RDM without the melee.
BLM on the other hand is extremely tedious and you rotate through 3-5x more abilities than you would as a SMN. It's also the least mobile class in the game and while you *can* move with some abilities, they absolutely need to be timed perfectly to those sections where it's necessary. So you need to be intimately acquainted with the particular boss. BLM is basically 20x more effort for around 10% more DPS. If you like that sort of stuff though, there's nothing else like it.

How much experience do you have with BLM? I often hear normalgays complaining about how hard it is but i don't really think BLM is hard at all. at low ranks, any job with good aoe damage like blm/smn/drg
at high ranks, jobs with hard cc like whm/bard/pld. And make sure you're calling targets to burst if no one else is, it makes a bigger difference in winrate than anything you can do solo by yourself.

I'm hopeful for some kind of "prestige" level-up system that you get tokens or alt-progression progress for since I still want to hear the level-up jingle. Say WoL is venting aether because he's hit a hard-cap for how much he can actually contain without exploding.
How about a sort of talent system (but not really) where you get to choose additional abilities and a good lot of them are old removed favorites as well as some new ones.
Just minor extra abilities that change up the base playstyle.
I'm leery of anything that actually changes your rotation, but I could see them putting up something like official animation replacements for old/removed skills, turn shit like Vorpal Thrust into Phlebotomize. Flip on a "skill glamour" and it changes an existing skill into an older equivalent's animation set, or lets you pick which one you want to replace.
