For the past several years I have played FFXIV on three different data centers. EU, NA and JP (I am originally from EU). I spent at least 8 months on the last two. My activities were varied, from casual to hardcore content. These are my experiences, which may be a bit biased but I'm going to try to be as fair as possible:
>EU
>skill level is above average
>very helpful towards newcomers
>topics of conversation are mostly related to the game, especially towards the characters and lore, if a private topic comes up it's usually about what they're cooking right now, talking about their fiancée, generally wholesome stuff
>a LOT of female players (actual females, not "females"), who all act very feminine and cute, surprisingly little drama despite this
>french and swedish players are terrible and rude as frick, will constantly blame others for every mistake, thankfully they are relatively rare
>JP
>very high skill level, can queue(!) for Extremes and even Savage and you will likely still clear
>extremely helpful towards everyone
>conversations are almost exclusively about the game and its mechanics, that or someone goes full silly meme mode and RPs something funny
>mostly male players, gender is practically never brought up and nobody cares either
>despite the very friendly community some groups can become proper bullies
>NA
>below average skill level, PFs will generally disband after the first wipe
>generally friendly towards newcomers, but:
>chat is constantly spammed with private conversations, I have literally never seen so many people talk about their fetishes ("gay", "bear" and "inflation" come up very often, there is an entire server dedicated to homosexuals) out in the open, how much they hate "the fascists", "ACAP", pronouns in a lot of profiles
>in the rare case that someone actually does talk about the game it is accompanied with "uwus", "owos", "boop the snoot" and other garbage
>turn extremely hostile if you don't play along in any of these cases

I've only played on EU and JP servers, not US.
In my experience, JP is more focused on the game itself and has little interest in just chatting, but as long as you play along they're super chill. It basically never happens that someone throws a tantrum after a wipe, even if it was obvious that someone made a dumb mistake. Some people are very mean to non-JP players, but as long as you don't start talking in English they won't care.
In comparison EU tends to be very chatty. People talk a lot even during runs and there's a lot of emote spam. It's typically very friendly but people also get angry faster if someone fricks up. They're all chill if things go right but if things don't go right it's suddenly every man for himself. And yeah French people are the worst. If you have more than 1 French player in your party you can kiss your run goodbye because they'll spend more time sucking eachother's dicks than actually playing the game..
I will never understand what is wrong with French people. My last boss was french and I quit that job because he was a insufferable moron. I have never had any interaction online or IRL with a French person that didn't end up in disgust

I liked NA during my time there during Heavensward. EU felt so sterile and boring in comparison with tons of ESLs incapable of banter, but I had a blast during ShB after I stumbled upon a group of filled with my countrymen I could banter with without having to worry about moronic ESL babble or central/northern EU autism.

Nah that's mostly NA stuff. People yelling about Trump, about muh trans rights, about whatever the hot topic of the day is. NA seems to abuse shout chat a lot more in general so you have to deal with everyone else's autism all the time, in EU people using shout at all is very rare outside of the obvious places like Limsa.
I've been playing since beta and except for clique discord frickers that everyone should avoid, you will not find a most friendly, welcoming community in any other game. PF is typically filled with helpful people who will tolerate even the most braindead unskilled player. Playing on my alt, I will have crowns helping for hours to clear a single extreme for 0 benefit to themselves. Please frick off with the memes.

I don't know what the status is on Light, but on Chaos having french fricks in the party is unfortunately not that rare. The germans are also fricking awful, but not close as bad as the french. I bet the Americans and japs think it's an over exaggeration, but no, the french are really that terrible at the game, almost all of them are fricking garbage and they don't speak English. There's a reason why you open the party window to check their main language, if it says F you can disregard that person as there's a good 85% chance he's a complete moron and god help you if that's the healer.
Light does have Moogle, which is supposedly filled with frenchies, but you will still encounter them less frequently there than on Chaos. Most germans I've met were pretty friendly and suprisingly based, although the abundant use of "^^" and ":D" takes some getting used to.
