You don't ask for comms, you earn them. Most of the time I comm the tank or healer for advancing the queue, but if I see a dps pull some risky impressive shit for damage I'll throw them a comm.

It's not about how well you even did. Nobody gives a frick about your name or your behavior. The only thing that matters is if your portrait is funny/cool/interesting.

Actual tips for getting more commendations:
>play tank
Makes you kind of the center of attention, if you can play well it's obvious to everyone in the group. You are in the position of most control meaning if you are confident in your play you'll be most likely to complete dungeons quickly and consistently
>play quick but not stupid
Most people in dungeons are grinding for something or other. Watch your healer and set a fast pace from the start if you feel confident. If you give folks a quick and smooth dungeon they are more likely to appreciate that than anything else you can do
>don't talk too much but don't be silent
If you fricking copy/paste some moronic message in the chat at the start you'll be losing probably more than half of possible commendations. Just give a "hello" at the start and a "GG" at the end. If someone makes a good play or performs exceptionally give them a little callout for it. Don't beg, don't kill the vibes, don't make people annoyed or uncomfortable. If you frick up apologize and adapt, as tank that usually means slow down a little or be more aware of your mitigation
Make yourself the obvious choice when the vote comes up. Competent, confident, reasonable, and kind. Playing tank well is hands down the easiest way to make yourself stand out.
I should really play healer in roulettes for comms but I always play tank for the mounts/titles. I think I play tank quite well but I think that's almost a detriment. I actually use mitigation properly but the only people who notice that are the healers so they're the probably the one ones who comm me. DPS players just comm the healer because that's just what you're supposed to do apparently. I wouldn't mind if the commendation tab just automatically opened at the end of duties.

Portraits have turned the comm metagame upside down. You no longer get free comms simply for existing as a tank/healer, you get judged on your race, on your glam, on your pose. Having a fluoride stare default portrait basically means you don't get comms at all. Work on those, and may Ra-la have mercy on you if you decided to pick a meme race or have a bad glam.
Defaults get the comm before bawdglams and meme portraits. Odds are the player with no title and default portrait is the most skilled motherfricker you've ever seen.
Skill is irrelevant in any content you can give comms in.
If someone does something impressive when they don't have to, you better believe I'm giving them the comm. Anything to break up the monotony.
if you're doing content where comms are being given out, your skill doesn't matter as long as you're not a single celled organism

I'm still going through the final parts of the Stormblood MSQ and already have a lvl 90 job and a few at lvl 75-80+. Commendations are easy enough if you tank/heal. I'm nearly at 500 after only playing for 3 and a half months. Don't you only need 1000 for Mentor?

Only real issue I've had is p7s where the first 75% of the fight is braindead easy while the last portion is just a wipe fest. Makes the whole thing a huge slog.
Inversely I love p8s. Just a fun fast fight from start to finish.
I'll admit we've been skipping to P8S while we prog for a fair few weeks now so I don't really recall them that much, but I don't miss doing most of them. But this tier has definitely felt a LOT more unforgiving than the previous ones, just in terms of mechanics where 1 death equals wipe. I'm not really a fan of the fights where you can't scrap your way through a fricked up mechanic.

I’m already pissed Alliance Roulette gives barely what it used to. I bust my ass in dungeons and get jack shit for comms so why should I give them out if I’m not getting something out of it?

Fate trains were way better than CEs and they actually gave people a reason to go out into the world zones instead of idling in the nearest city. Bozja & Zadnor should’ve 100% been in the overworld and it would’ve also solved the problem of people idling at the base waiting for Castrum to pop.
Just finished Bozja, the issue isn't so much the grind, the issue is that you can't directly make a group for Castrum or Dalrida, which means if you play at odd hours or if you're on the OCE server it's a fricking nightmare or a Discord nightmare to get the story done.
They fixed it with Delubrum, then went back and fricked it up with Dalrida, it's baffling.
Also the absolute worst story of any segment of the game I've done so far. Christ, I could write a whole essay on why the story's bad.

I fricking loved Bozja and I'm sad we didn't get anything like it this expac. Eureka was boring but Bozja did a fricking fantastic job of replicating a real war zone and making you feel like a soldier in the conflict. I hated FF12 honestly, but in spite of that Bozja was fricking awesome. Frick anyone who says otherwise.
I enjoyed Bozja, but I disagree about Eureka and I feel that striking a balance between the two is what they need to do in the next one. Visually, Eureka blows Bozja out of the water, and the fact that Eureka was so much more dangerous forced people to group up and work together beyond just temporary parties for CEs for example. The community aspect of people further ahead helping out the lower ranked players, like taxiing people in the multi-seat mounts for those who hadn’t unlocked mounts yet, was a cool biproduct for example. That being said, I did Eureka after it was dead content and before they nerfed it further where people had mounts unlocked from the beginning, so I may have hit it at the perfect time where it was a small, dedicated community working together to progress through it.
My issue with Eureka is that the point of it was supposed to be exploration but due to the danger of the fricking place you couldn't actually enjoy exploring shit. I get that Eureka was initially designed to be an FFXI simulator but there's a fricking reason that that game has never had more than one million concurrent players and now lies dead and forgotten by both the community and SE.
What, were ARR and HW grinds supposed to be better? Frick off, grinding for grinding's sake sucks. Make the grind itself fun or at least different like Eureka and Bozja did. GUYS WE GOTTA RETVRN TO THE ALEXANDER SAVAGE GRIND

I would argue that would be a more worthwhile effort than logging 4000 times and yet the game hasn't told you to do that so you haven't even started trying to attempt such a thing.

The best way to get a solid stream of comms is in CC as WAR. All you gotta do is just pull people off the crystal and you'll almost always get 1 comm a game. Yesterday I pulled a guy off the crystal and into the Instakill move in the clocktown or whatever level and got two comms for it. Glad it was noticed.

Honestly, I've gotten into the habit of talking to sprouts in say chat, they're the most receptive to it because they haven't been poisoned by the insular community yet. Free trial players also can't shout, yell, tell, or create their own parties, so say chat is really the only way they can communicate.

none of these are particularly dangerous, all have a piss easy add phase. Menphina does differ in that her fight changes a lot with the appearance of Dalamud, and the phase change attack is fantastic with the icicles drawing her sigil

There's literally nothing wrong with that, people can still type like someone from 2009 and be interesting people to talk to. Not everyone talks like a Gankerner and the sooner people on here realise that the easier and smoother of a time they'll have interacting with others.

That's the curse of the content being used as a daily grind for points. People don't do it because its fun or there's something interesting that might drop but because its simply in the duty roulette for a couple of tomes to stack up.

It really isn't that hard. The problem lies in the fact that frickups will lead into deaths and deaths are more meaningful in there, specially for Ozma since dying means you're out.

Yeah i'm having fun overall.
I've recently finished the main narrative for Stormblood but i've been advised to do all other content (raids / extreme for trials etc) before moving onto the post content and beyond.
CC is alot of fun and I do enjoy dungeons despite how streamlined they are. Job variation is still decent but only because of the animation otherwise anons aren't wrong when they say alot play the same. Tanking is my favourite roll overall but i'm in love with Astrologian which is my mine. It's currently at lvl 89.
You can do it that way or just do the MSQ at once, then go back.
The former is probably more "immersive".
I kinda advise against focusing on those ex trials for now, but do what you want.
Yeah i'm saving the MSQ for when i'm on holiday off work week after next, will likely binge through it and start Shadowbringers then.

Manderville weapons likely required you to do the new pvp mode but they changed it last minute because they knew both the raid trannies and casuals would freak out if they forced them to spend a couple hours pvping.

I'm thinking of transfer to aether from primal. The pf scene is dying and having to travel to aether every time I want to do content sucks.
Anyone have any opinions on the reputation of aether servers? Which do you think would be the best to transfer to?
Aether is the "raiding scene", but it's also full of the dumbest fricking players imaginable. Players that wipe on Crystal Tower. Players that wipe multiple times on Dun Scaith. Players who can't even do regular dungeon content.
I came from Crystal and I regret it. I cannot believe how fricking dumb these people are, but maybe Party Finder is better, I have yet to mess with it on Aether.
We have Faerie and Adamantoise to deal with, unfortuntaely.
I came back and started fresh on Dynamis and was so disapointed I needed to DC travel to Aether to do shit since all the FC are dead on Dynamis.
I used to play on Cactuar but that server sucks now compared to pre-Asmon era. I started fresh on Adamantoise and it seems ok so far but there's really only two big FCs on this server so I would find another server if you want to be social in a FC maybe Jenova or Gilgamesh.
I have autism (which I know is redundant since I'm posting on Ganker) so I think gilg is out of the question since the player with the most achievement points in the game plays on that server. I like to see ranking number go up so gilg seems like a hard buy.
I've heard good thing about Jenova. Do you know what the players are like there? I was also considering Sargantas. I think Arthars plays there and I used to enjoy joining his clear 4 1 parties back when he played on primal.
They should do something interesting with the dungeon layout of the next variant dungeon since you don't have to worry about inconveniencing roulette hamsters. Sil'dih being just three hallways despite them being able to do whatever the frick they want with the layout was lame as frick.
Isn't the plan to eventually put variant dungeons in a roulette to get people playing them? Once there's enough of them, of course.
