The distinction between God and Primal is basically the distinction between Creation (all things on Etheirys which you interact with that have origin in the Ancients' magic) and Corrupted Creation which is incomplete and rampant, ever hungry and destructive. Yet again, I'm not sure what exactly people wanted or expected with the clear Amaurotine architecture at Omphalos and the previous story information.

AST and GEO aren't the same job, they just function on similar premises. GEO has a fortune telling aspect like AST, but its main focus is on conjuring wards and barriers, and their magic is attuned to different compass directions for different effects. There's also an association with good fortune in Hingashi because of the way their barriers ward off evil. There's a whole job right there. Compass directions, barriers, good fortune (a proc rate buff?), have the job gauge be a compass and you change the attunement to alter your magic in some way, kinda like Eukrasia but with four options.

The races in this game are already bad enough. You got Human, Elf Human, Shit Covered Scales Human, Giraffe Human, Blue/Green Tall Human, Tiny Human, Bunny Human. Hrothgar are literally the only unique choice. But even they have their own issues. The overwhelming majority of Hrothgar players have never played FFX and don't know being hornless means you're a homosexual loser.

Basically only Shadowbringers was "relatively" smooth, and even that cut shit like Bozja short to move onto Endwalker or removed TP altogether to simplify the game. If anything, besides EW's crappy story, generally speaking it's the safest, most boring expansion of the bunch where its controversy mostly boils down to post-MSQ patch story being bad, Island Sanctuary as our main side content being bad, and more raid focus which sucks for everyone not into raids.
It feels like less because of IS but also the extra time needed between each major patch, we got the same general amount as ShB otherwise but that extra time really fricking adds up to the staleness.
You look at an apocalypse, time travel, the mess of cheeky rabbit levity immediately following suicide and god deicide and the 2 hours of listening to part of the theme on endless loop as you do chores in Labyrinthos and tell me that's good. It had good emotional highs and absolutely fricking bottom of the barrel lows.

One of the rules of narrative is that you should find a theme (or a visual element) and repeat it multiple times from different angles. Think full metal alchemist, and how many people have replaced limbs: Ed, Paninya, Scar, and it ends with King losing both of his arms.
The thing is you are supposed to be somewhat subtle about it, while in SB they completely fricked up and wrote the same story twice with the only noteworthy difference being Yotsuyu vs Fordola.

If Variant/Criterion wasn’t just one and done content and regular Criterion’s difficulty was closer to Extreme level than it is now, things would feel better.
I’m pretty sure I’m that interview with the content designer for it they more or less admitted that the reward structure was terrible but that guy isn’t in charge of deciding the rewards for it.
Bitches like this guy is why they don't bother anymore. Why spend tons of ressources making extra content for "high end" players who will complain about your content no matter what you do when you can just get the same subscription money from a casual who additionally won't complain about spending 15$ for a random skin on the market.
You need a healthy balance of both to keep the game alive. Believe it or not, lots of casuals have hardcore friends, and there's a range of people in between too.

My biggest gripe Imo is the difficulty is either brain dead content (dungeon, trials, normal raid) or content you only will get to play with a static (extreme, savage, unreal).
It doesn't help that there's no insentive for people to play older hard content, so me who got in late will never get to play it unless I rope 7 others into it who are willing to play for content sake.

There should be more in between normal and savage difficulties, but extreme are absolutely the perfect example of midcore content. You can go into a blind Zeromus ex PF right now and see all the mechanics with no guide or static, then do a couple more hours and get a clear. A lot of extremes are much easier than savage (and often more fun). Please do try them if you haven't.
Now if only we had criterion at the same level and some new exploratory content with some difficult fates.

not really. there's no reason why other very commonly used pve game modes wouldn't work just because of tab targeting. wave defense/pve asshomosexuals or push the cart where you defend and push territory from setpieces with big bosses with serious mechanics or aggressive packs that you might need to kite or pick a route to avoid
a lot of these things just wouldn't work in ffxiv due to the extremely simple job design that's only capable of dealing with 8 people and a boss in a square or circle. there's also the problem of the raid design dictating job cooldowns that make the game extremely boring to play in short bursts. like if most skills had pvp cooldowns of between 15 - 30 seconds, you would always be engaged in the moment-to-moment gameplay even if you're fighting like a bunch of trash and a few elites, but with pve skills having like 30s - 2min cds because the xiv devs only know about 8 - 10min encounters with fixed timelines, when you go do shit like eureka orthos and you're trying to kill stuff that lasts for like 15 - 20 seconds, the gameplay is not only disjointed but BORING AS FRICK
a lot of things that 'aren't possible' in ffxiv is simply due to being shackled to the laughably tiny scope of the combat and encounters
We can thank parsegays for most of this. When the most vocal part of the playerbase only cares about parse performance and whines that every job that's not boss burst optimized is useless, of course the devs are going to notice and balance around it.
Of course, devs do share part of the blame, for listening to the parsegays and for providing an environment where they can thrive.
no they absolutely can, there is an issue of xivs spaghetti netcode making a lot of reaction based things difficult like byakko orbs/zeromus poison orbs hitboxes being desynced because the netcode sucks shit. But they refuse to even try experimenting and making fights more interesting or work with the boss room because of the one time in T5 where people just cheesed divebombs with the fricked up map geometry

Faces are one thing, most of the hair are just solid texture clumps layered over eachother at like 512x512 it feels like and never changed even after the PS3 was cut, while still floating off of your head ever so slightly that it never 100% fits. That said, I’m still torn on whether or not we should implement a skip. FFXIV is a story-driven MMORPG, which is one of its largest appeals. Even if the introduction to the story may come off as too thorough and dull, is it truly the right choice to skip it? That’s where I’m undecided.
If that is indeed the case, then perhaps revamping A Realm Reborn is the correct choice. But I can’t solve the issue of development resources, so I’m still pondering it even now. (laughs)

I really wish they'd stop making every dungeon so formulaic. They should make it the goal to have every dungeon be mechanically distinct from one another. Not every dungeon should have the same number of bosses, or have every fricking layout be "2 add pulls > Boss > 2 add pulls > Boss > 2 add pulls >Boss".

Unfortunately FFXIV is still coded like one of those old MMO's. They literally can't do anything more modern without the servers shittijng themselves.
Not for another 10 years at least, and it's very doubtful that any successor would still be an MMORPG. Far more likely to be a lobby-based Monster Hunter clone.
The MMO genre is effectively dead at this point and XIV is still printing money despite it being held together by dried bubblegum and prayers. I doubt there will ever be a third FF MMO.
They didn't choose for ARR to be based around instanced content for technical reasons, they did so because of the reaction to 1.0's "party up and grind overworld mobs until XP cap" leveling. There was a direct quote about it before release that I can't be assed to google right now.
They should just completely stop making them after the MSQ batch that we will get that takes us to lvl 100 IMO, just make Criterion/Variant the new dungeon system going forward and abandon the smoothed over bullshit they've been doing since SB/late HW, their only purpose has been to act as a "climax" for MSQ moments and to give players a way to level alt jobs but they should just stop adding levels after 100 and instead spend that freed up tome with reworking the entire leveling experience for 8.0 (which would just be them rebalancing and shuffling around low level actions and content but that is all they actually need to do)
Since they are so deathly afraid of butting literally any challenge or even just fricking gameplay into the MSQ they should just embrace the fact that it's a visual novel now and take all of the saved effort of designing gameplay elements for said MSQ and pour all of it into creating an actually engaging overworld content and making Variant/Criterion more varied and fun, current dungeons are just a massive waste of resources currently and if they never add more levels to the game they will officially have no purpose anymore whatsoever

1 not enough people will care to far savage for mounts, so they will gouge your eyes from the get go
2 since its cute mount every casual will want it making the market even drier

also I'm trying to gauge the point of Variant/Criterions. like, it's a novel idea to actually make exploration focused dungeons again, but then you have the mode that anyone really cares about past the glamour ditch that to be a generic dungeon anyway. and once you get the glams or rewards, they're far from being all that interesting for replayability in the end. once you get that true ending, it's kind of done besides Achievements.
I know one can say that about a lot of content but I feel like this being our extra content for the expansion was a massive waste of time for most players. meanwhile they emphasize Manderville so fricking much, but they don't tie him to the Variants, and there's been a single joke of a solo duty as Godbert in it. I'm figuring Asura will be part of the final patch for the questline but that's a guess at best. their priorities are all over the fricking place

You are misremembering. The last time Yoshida mentioned femHroths was early 2022 right after EW launch, and he said they had narrowed it down to two concepts at that point and were going to make a final choice between those.
The character data integer issue has dragged on for years ever since ARR and the very nature of the problem results in bandaid solutions that always push the boundaries with little steps. Updates in server capacity, removing Belt slots, decoupling the glamour system from the integer etc.
Unless they rebuild the netcode from scratch there's no big perfect solution that will solve everything and that would alllow them to add as many races or additional character options for existing races as they want. And for every bandaid they've come up with over the past 10 years, they've increased the workload necessary for a comprehensive solution.

Every time you change instance your entire character data gets copied over to the new instance, and the majority of it gets sent to be read by every other player in the area. The bigger the integer the higher the stress on server infrastructure.
Every additional character creation option increases the size of the integer. So more character races/options per race = more server load.

Adding to this that at modern processing and data transfer speeds, adding a couple of lines per character should result in frickall extra load. Even at popular hangout spots you don't really go past 100 characters ever, so ten extra bits per character results in maybe a kilobyte of data, which really shouldn't be noticeable in the gigabit era.
Operative word should. Evidence shows otherwise. Conclusion is that the game's spaghetti background hurts it badly, and we won't get much more in the way of customization without a massive rewrite of the whole game's codebase.

Not only is there already a system in place to handle extra load (instancing, even though the devs for some fricking reason needs to manually enable it every fricking time) there is also a HARD cap of the amount of players that can be in the same instance at once and I think it's 200, maybe 180, after that the server simply goes into lockdown mode and doesn't let ANYONE enter until the instance have emptied out by atleast 5-10 players (or they have a timer that starts ticking after there is enough room for more players again, I'm not sure)

There is a strict size limit that each integer needs to stay within when it comes to networking. They have already reached that limit, multiple times over it seems since otherwise they wouldn't have removed shit like belts. It's also not about hardware capability, it's about how much pressure their software infrastructures can take since it's designed to only process data within the size limits, this means that the only way to send more is to send an increased volume of them instead of increasing the size of each individual packet, otherwise they will have to rewrite how their software handles data processing completely which gets increasingly complex as the types of information that each packet carries increases.

AST and GEO aren't the same job, they just function on similar premises. GEO has a fortune telling aspect like AST, but its main focus is on conjuring wards and barriers, and their magic is attuned to different compass directions for different effects. There's also an association with good fortune in Hingashi because of the way their barriers ward off evil. There's a whole job right there. Compass directions, barriers, good fortune (a proc rate buff?), have the job gauge be a compass and you change the attunement to alter your magic in some way, kinda like Eukrasia but with four options.

The races in this game are already bad enough. You got Human, Elf Human, Shit Covered Scales Human, Giraffe Human, Blue/Green Tall Human, Tiny Human, Bunny Human. Hrothgar are literally the only unique choice. But even they have their own issues. Basically only Shadowbringers was "relatively" smooth, and even that cut shit like Bozja short to move onto Endwalker or removed TP altogether to simplify the game. If anything, besides EW's crappy story, generally speaking it's the safest, most boring expansion of the bunch where its controversy mostly boils down to post-MSQ patch story being bad, Island Sanctuary as our main side content being bad, and more raid focus which sucks for everyone not into raids.
It feels like less because of IS but also the extra time needed between each major patch, we got the same general amount as ShB otherwise but that extra time really fricking adds up to the staleness.

Why spend tons of ressources making extra content for "high end" players who will complain about your content no matter what you do when you can just get the same subscription money from a casual who additionally won't complain about spending 15$ for a random skin on the market.
You need a healthy balance of both to keep the game alive. Believe it or not, lots of casuals have hardcore friends, and there's a range of people in between too.
My biggest gripe Imo is the difficulty is either brain dead content (dungeon, trials, normal raid) or content you only will get to play with a static (extreme, savage, unreal).
It doesn't help that there's no insentive for people to play older hard content, so me who got in late will never get to play it unless I rope 7 others into it who are willing to play for content sake.
There should be more in between normal and savage difficulties, but extreme are absolutely the perfect example of midcore content. You can go into a blind Zeromus ex PF right now and see all the mechanics with no guide or static, then do a couple more hours and get a clear. A lot of extremes are much easier than savage (and often more fun). Please do try them if you haven't.
Now if only we had criterion at the same level and some new exploratory content with some difficult fates.

not really. there's no reason why other very commonly used pve game modes wouldn't work just because of tab targeting. wave defense/pve asshomosexuals or push the cart where you defend and push territory from setpieces with big bosses with serious mechanics or aggressive packs that you might need to kite or pick a route to avoid
a lot of these things just wouldn't work in ffxiv due to the extremely simple job design that's only capable of dealing with 8 people and a boss in a square or circle. there's also the problem of the raid design dictating job cooldowns that make the game extremely boring to play in short bursts. like if most skills had pvp cooldowns of between 15 - 30 seconds, you would always be engaged in the moment-to-moment gameplay even if you're fighting like a bunch of trash and a few elites, but with pve skills having like 30s - 2min cds because the xiv devs only know about 8 - 10min encounters with fixed timelines, when you go do shit like eureka orthos and you're trying to kill stuff that lasts for like 15 - 20 seconds, the gameplay is not only disjointed but BORING AS FRICK
a lot of things that 'aren't possible' in ffxiv is simply due to being shackled to the laughably tiny scope of the combat and encounters

In FFXIV it's just the incompetence of the artists and modelers on the team. There's a reason almost every player character uses the same 1-2 faces, because all the other ones are pure cancer and have been for over a decade.

All content should be open world, and preferably with ongoing consequences/impacts. Dungeons and raids are the laziest, simplistic thing a dev can do.

They didn't choose for ARR to be based around instanced content for technical reasons, they did so because of the reaction to 1.0's "party up and grind overworld mobs until XP cap" leveling. There was a direct quote about it before release that I can't be assed to google right now.
They should just completely stop making them after the MSQ batch that we will get that takes us to lvl 100 IMO, just make Criterion/Variant the new dungeon system going forward and abandon the smoothed over bullshit they've been doing since SB/late HW, their only purpose has been to act as a "climax" for MSQ moments and to give players a way to level alt jobs but they should just stop adding levels after 100 and instead spend that freed up tome with reworking the entire leveling experience for 8.0 (which would just be them rebalancing and shuffling around low level actions and content but that is all they actually need to do)
Since they are so deathly afraid of butting literally any challenge or even just fricking gameplay into the MSQ they should just embrace the fact that it's a visual novel now and take all of the saved effort of designing gameplay elements for said MSQ and pour all of it into creating an actually engaging overworld content and making Variant/Criterion more varied and fun, current dungeons are just a massive waste of resources currently and if they never add more levels to the game they will officially have no purpose anymore whatsoever

I know one can say that about a lot of content but I feel like this being our extra content for the expansion was a massive waste of time for most players. meanwhile they emphasize Manderville so fricking much, but they don't tie him to the Variants, and there's been a single joke of a solo duty as Godbert in it. You are misremembering. The last time Yoshida mentioned femHroths was early 2022 right after EW launch, and he said they had narrowed it down to two concepts at that point and were going to make a final choice between those.
The character data integer issue has dragged on for years ever since ARR and the very nature of the problem results in bandaid solutions that always push the boundaries with little steps. Updates in server capacity, removing Belt slots, decoupling the glamour system from the integer etc.
Unless they rebuild the netcode from scratch there's no big perfect solution that will solve everything and that would alllow them to add as many races or additional character options for existing races as they want. And for every bandaid they've come up with over the past 10 years, they've increased the workload necessary for a comprehensive solution.

Every time you change instance your entire character data gets copied over to the new instance, and the majority of it gets sent to be read by every other player in the area. The bigger the integer the higher the stress on server infrastructure.
Every additional character creation option increases the size of the integer. So more character races/options per race = more server load.
How the frick is it in any way possible when the integer shouldn't be anything other than a simple HEX value that points at a player and says "this guy uses character options 4, 9, 16 and 3"? Adding to this that at modern processing and data transfer speeds, adding a couple of lines per character should result in frickall extra load. Even at popular hangout spots you don't really go past 100 characters ever, so ten extra bits per character results in maybe a kilobyte of data, which really shouldn't be noticeable in the gigabit era.

Not only is there already a system in place to handle extra load (instancing, even though the devs for some fricking reason needs to manually enable it every fricking time) there is also a HARD cap of the amount of players that can be in the same instance at once and I think it's 200, maybe 180, after that the server simply goes into lockdown mode and doesn't let ANYONE enter until the instance have emptied out by atleast 5-10 players (or they have a timer that starts ticking after there is enough room for more players again, I'm not sure)

It's because the integer they use to send character information to other players/the server is already being maxed out with stupid bullshit that has no value to any other player in the zone, like your characters exact stat values at all times, their fricking birthday, their entire inventory, etc.
Instead of sending out said information when it's relevant they just send it all in bulk all the fricking time
I understand how everything gets sent out, but new races/hairstyles/customisation shouldn't really add much to server processing as it would just be a different value for 'PlayerRace' or 'CustomisationFace' or whatever. New things however like a new dye channel would add another thing to send over to other people.
There is a strict size limit that each integer needs to stay within when it comes to networking. They have already reached that limit, multiple times over it seems since otherwise they wouldn't have removed shit like belts. It's also not about hardware capability, it's about how much pressure their software infrastructures can take since it's designed to only process data within the size limits, this means that the only way to send more is to send an increased volume of them instead of increasing the size of each individual packet, otherwise they will have to rewrite how their software handles data processing completely which gets increasingly complex as the types of information that each packet carries increases.
