I'm curious myself if they would be getting unique one-handed swords or pull from the GLD/PLD pool, but then the way gear is tied to soul crystals in this game, they would have to be unique I guess.
I think a fun way to translate Corsair into FFXIV is to make it a melee but design it like a phys ranged, with various procs. Something similiar to Dancer's fan attacks that need to be proc and then those have a chance to proc an even stronger attack.
That is the only way you can really translate the 'gambler' gameplay in FFXIV.
I know it's been nerfed but the Eureka relic grind is actually fun, I don't know why people hate slower incremental progress. I hope those rumors of Eureka 2 in 7.0 are true.

You're coming in years later. When I played in 2017 there was no flying in ARR yet, and all of the quests were fully intact. Now they trimmed the excess a bit and you can freely fly over all the shit to get everywhere you need to get to so much faster and safely. Post-ARR has better fight content but good god was it so, so much more of a chore to go through before Shadowbringers reworked things a bit.
Warrior of Light and his crew of Scions honestly has one of the best hero's journey in all of video games.

I could get used to clicking the crosspad every time I need to target something new, and even the slow pace of combat since it's obviously built around it, but the quest system, everything being in the tiny chatlog, only having two chatscreens at once, holy frick how do I grind any kind of crafting. It's insanely obtuse all around. I got to lvl 30 with two jobs, so it's not like I gave up immediately either.

Yeah, leveling crafting is hell. It's very much a long term grind. But it is slightly easier now if you're on retail because you can buy the training kits instead of farming materials.
Nothing to be done about the quest system though, it is much more obtuse and doesn't hold your hand at all. Ideally they're supposed to be a community effort but really you just keep ffxiclopedia open in another window.
I am of course aware that I barely started nudging the start of interesting stuff, but sadly it just didn't grab me nearly as much as XIV did. It seems like an interesting experience but it's very much a relic of its time.

skill issue, it takes a bit to get a feel for how tab targeting functions in general but once you know you know. The best tip is to always hit F1 to target yourself then tabbing will slide the target to whatever is directly infront of you making it easy to target npcs or a specific enemy.

Here is my unrequested opinion on FF14 as a straight male Caucasian from northern Europe:
My experience was playing through ARR>Stormblood.
I will start by saying that the music score and aesthetics of the game are really pleasing to me, the game engine performs really well and the lighting and shadows are beautiful.
As for the zero to hero experience, FF14 feels to be a lot more on rails compared to other MMORPGs, there is very little you can do besides finishing the MSQ and to me this is a big minus.
Another big downside to me is the lack of customization, i.e, talents trees for your class, gear that impact the way your class plays and so on... Another thing that I dislike is that the PVE encounters seem to have very little RNG to them, the fights are heavily scripted and always happen the same way every time, the only factor that can interfere is playing with players that aren't experienced in the fight, creating all sorts of hazards.
Lastly, the community, you see, Im kinda homophobic, as in, I dont hate the "gay" part of being gay but more what goes in the head of these people, gay and trannies are difficult to deal with when they are called out, they are unstable mentally, have victim complex and are short tempered. I say this because I tried stepping out of my comfort zone and giving RP a try and Ive come to learn that you shouldn't trust people that play female character, specifically Miqotes, anyways all this to say that it seems to me the majority of the community care more about RPing with their gay gay character than the state of the game itself, which I find kinda alarming.
I honestly don't know how FF14 keep its player retention, I'd assume anyone interested in gameplay would bail out after completing the content because it lacks diversity in the way you can approach PVE, unless a big percentage of the player base are the trannies I described above which only care about sitting in Limnsa and looking cute.
The game used to have more systems in place that allowed for more customization and variety, as well as a lot more combat skills early on that all got culled out to make the game more casual.
I know for a fact I would not play this game if I didn't already have a character whos beyond the shit parts of the game, the new player expeirence of FFXIV is really bad.
New player experience sucked with those things too, you had to level multiple tanks to have access to Provoke.

Even with there being optimal choices for 4/5 cross class slots it made you have to think about which ones you wanted at lower levels since they were level restricted. It also meant you had to level other jobs which the game is sorely lacking now and coddles morons that only play one fricking job who end up being shitters because they don't understand what other jobs are doing, and whenever their one job is suboptimal they go and cry and b***h on the forums until it's buffed or everything else is nerfed (see WHM and SMN players)
