All tank immunes "feel" the same, you press the button, you ignore a tankbuster. The only difference is WAR gets to do it more than anyone else.

you won't have thrill up for the next one and tbn is up in, get this FIFTEEN (15) seconds, drk is able to use TBN for EVERY tank buster in the game and even autos if the fight warrants it (p8s)

BLM has a lot of complexity, cast times that interfere with mechanics, a weaker two minute burst but stronger filler than summoner, and no rez. But it's a good thing that it plays very differently than the other casters.
I think tanks should feel more different from each other, not more samey.
I knew something felt off when I was playing the other caster jobs at 90. They feel so weak and lame for most of their gameplay, and only get exciting when they do their burst rotations. Black mage is fun all the time, and that's what I appreciate about it. It's straight gas all the way, instead of boring garbage 3/4 of the time.
Summoner is pretty sweet, though. Titan is my favourite, I like smashing OGCDs. Makes me wish Fester was something I could press all the time instead of just twice per minute. Red Mage only has dualcast going for it, I hate everything else about the job.
Black Mage > Summoner > Red Mage.
SMN is simple and satisfying, it's fun to do lv90 roulettes or for the first time in new content. But if you're playing it for hours of prog every day you'll get bored really fast.

You holmgang the first, thrill the second and vengeance the third and if there are more tankbusters than that cycle then I don't know what game you're playing because it's not XIV.
yes so warrior often has to space out all of their mitigation or use holmgang more so than drk, drk has more opportunities for mitigation as TBN is on a 15 second cooldown and they have 2 stacks of oblation so it eases the warrant of having to press it's invuln when the situation pops up (like in p12s where tanks both invuln at the start of the fight) i'm glad the tanks are different in regards to mitigation.

I'm interpreting this as "2 minute buff + burst meta will remain" but that we're still getting AST, DRG and maybe other reworks. I don't have any hope for healer design but that statement doesn't preclude them being given like 1 extra dps button.

I think this can only really mean two things in FFXIV - randomised timelines or mechanics with (more) random combinations. The timeline thing can work sometimes (o9s) and fail other times (p8s). The fact that people would just wall if they saw dog first in p8s means the design was a failure.
When I think of unique boss design for this game, I think of Ravana (his damage vuln phases messed with burst timing), that godzilla dragon enemy you see in Stone Vigil HM (the one with no telegraphs), and the Rathalos crossover event (no telegraphs PLUS damage vuln phase). Your critique of random timelines is more or less spot on, you just double or triple the work involved in creating mechanics for an uncertain payout. These fights need to contain more independent systems that bounce off each other, especially when that creates situations that encourage players to hold their rotation for a more optimal moment. That means less than 100% uptime, which is basically antithetical to all current boss and job design. I was kinda hoping that's what yoshi meant when he talked about inconvenience in his interview, but it's probably not.
The glimmer of hope there is that smaller boss hitboxes means they'll have to design mechanics that force melee downtime, and design such that downtime doesn't completely frick up their rotations too.

It seems FF9 is mostly the reference material for Dawntrail yes. There already are some scattered FF9 references throughout Heavensward so you'll "get" Cruise Chaser, Ozma and Alexander after playing it.

This is probably the biggest thing I wanted not only from DT but from XIV as a whole going forward. Here's hoping CBU3 deliver on that, I've been sick of my MMO not having any actual MMO content for a long time.
I have never seen the white-knighting in these threads be so bad as they are now. What happened? ANY criticism, even the most commonly agreed upon (like the 2 minute meta, headwear cutting off ears for certain races, lack of exploratory content in EW, etc.) are met with "lmao shut up nobody cares" or somebody mashing all criticism into a chatgpt-esque post mocking it. You cannot say ANYTHING negative about the game here anymore without without the same anons and avatargays responding in the most bad faith way imaginable.

Realistically at this point we need an admin to come in and rangeban them for good. It's been going on for more than a year now, they've made it clear their only interest is to turn these threads into /xivg/ 2: Electric Boogaloo, they maliciously evade filters that were created specifically for them (the equivalent to blocking someone ingame, and then they just made alts to continue pestering you), and ignoring them doesn't work because they either reply to themselves, or some anon will ERP with them.
No idea who they are, what has been compelling them to do this for over a year now (literally every single day since they appeared last February), they're here 16 hours straight and the only reprieve is when they go to bed, but it's clear they're never going to stop unless they eventually get bored. But looking at the degenerates in /xivg/ and how long they've been keeping it up, unless the game outright shuts down I don't expect them to ever go away. And even THEN.....
Mods should just enforce rule 13 on them, I have no idea why they refuse to (when I have seen them ban other avatarags, like that one femroe a while back). No other game on this board has this problem of some attentionprostitute breaking rule 13 every thread with impunity and just contributing shitposts and pissing everyone there off. So I don't know why FFXIV has to be subject to this and FFXIV alone.

had a question about low-level BLM if anyone has any experience with the job. If you're level 50, in astral phase casting fire 1, the firestarter proc happens right as you finish casting fire 1. Do you stop your next fire 1 cast to use the firestarter? Or do you just finish your next fire 1 cast, even if it means potentially doubling up and "dropping" a firestarter proc?
Right now it feels like I'm delaying fire 1 casts by a microsecond just in case I get a proc so I can use fire 3, which feels janky and not like it was the intended way to do things

so it's not a dps loss if you drop a firestarter proc, even though they do way more damage than a normal fire 1?
If you have the godlike reaction time and you're not clipping, by all means get that extra proc
But it's better to not clip or cancel because you get more casts over time throughout a fight
gotcha, thanks. I know it was different back when the proc activated on the actual fire cast hitting and not when the cast went off, so wasn't sure if the optimal dps rotation changed or not

FF9 gets praised a lot for being a rather by-the-books Final Fantasy game *in the style of FF before 6*, being that 6 marked a trend to more contemporary or overtly sci-fi settings (FF1 wiener-slaps you with the Flying Fortress being a space station, FF6 has magitek front and center) while FF9 is a more typical fantasy world being invaded by the remnants of a sci-fi world
Though FF9 also gets some points from me for being a kind of Victorian or pre-industrial revolution setting which isn't generally explored too often beyond surface level elements like French nobility (see Crimson Court DLC for Darkest Dungeon) and technological progress being a big turning point in the story with developing airships that run off of steam power instead of Mist

I honestly have no problem with Savage and Ultimate fights being on the more scripted side, but there's no fricking excuse to make any easy content equally as scripted when you're going to run it over and over and over again. It's so tedious when Expert dungeons play out the exact same way every single time.

I hope they're smart about this and don't just interpret that to mean giving out more tomes per run so you have even less need to play. Giving an alternative means of upgrading tome gear is the kind of thing this should be, as an example.

Most jobs were already boring as hell to play with all their skill ceilings dropped through the floor and/or punishing you for being a split second late on your CD's, so this already has me feeling pessimistic. If they actually make good on what they said about making the enemy encounters and bosses more interesting though, then I'd be more willing to be lenient on this.
Am I the only one who doesn't like the Eden FF8 remixes, they all sound so lifeless and soulless. Even The Extreme doesn't get me pumped like the original does

it will be part of patch 7.0, regardless of your expansion purchase. though not everything will be updated at once, so most of 7.0 is gonna be a mishmash

the only way fights aren't "scripted" is when tanks die and no one else knows what to do. there is no randomness to fights. IF no one fricks up you can a script for your skills as a WHM.
