Aglaia was great, Euphrosyne was ok but not as good, Thaleia was boring as shit outside of Llymlaen and the last boss was insultingly uninspired

Basically, Iroha isn't supposed to exist. The timeline she's from was consumed by the Cloud of Darkness. She was literally the last person in existence, and then she died. Phoenix as the goddess of rebirth tried to cheat the system by 'rebirthing' Iroha into a time and place where she didn't actually exist. It worked for a while, but reality started to catch up and delete her. By the end of Rhapsodies, Iroha is blinking in and out randomly and not even sure where the frick she is and what events have or haven't taken place. She transferred the Phoenix blessing to (You) so you could revive after the final battle, at which point Phoenix rewarded her by sending her to Etheirys so she didn't just vanish from existence.

Everyone knows the Scions as an organization were not actually disbanding. We all get that. The point is that everyone actually did get up and leave and go to work on other stuff with the agreement they'd link back up if shit hit the fan. That isn't what happened. In the very next segment we went on a casual treasure hunt and called everyone right back just because of the Trust system. Give them time to just sink into the background a bit and work on their personal goals until they can be used properly instead of just standing around acting like window dressing because they're marketable.

Scions dislikes are in denial but they're very popular, the only ones who really lag behind are Urianger and Thancred but even they have their fanbases. There's no reason for the writers to dump them all at once and replace them with a new crew. Doing what they did with Estinien, Zero and now Erenville + probably the new hrothgirl is the right way to bring new characters into the core cast.
That's the problem. Writers letting popularity dictate how the story goes. They just CAN'T get rid of them because the fanbase is obsessed with them to the detriment of the story. There is no reason Y'shtola couldn't have fricked off to go do her shard travel research somewhere. What is her purpose for going to a tropical island? Urianger? Yes there is though. (You) are the biggest expert on shards and shard travelling that exists (apart from the ascians, which are gone and wouldn't help her anyway) and keep stumbling on every mysterious mcguffin in the world, then finding out every intricacy about it. We literally just finished a plotline where WoL fricking stumbles on a shard portal and 5 patches worth of story comes out of it. She straight up got stuck with no progress for months and started making giant strides all of a sudden the instant she partied up with WoL again. Plus she said she wants to do this with you to begin with. No, that's the whole point of this expansion. There are no more enemies, no more impending dooms, no more loose ends. That's kind of the point of this expansion, that WoL is just going to another continent to explore and have fun. Why wouldn't your friends also want to? Also Urianger did kind of swear his life was at your disposition, even if WoL would never collect such a debt.

Old school SCH was heavily influenced by XI's version of SCH more than the FF3 version. Heavy focus on DoTs, swapping between support and damage, and the faeries being a callback to the Pixies who were involved in the Crystal War in XI alongside the Scholars.

Aside from RPR, all those were jobs with previous history in the series (with AST piggybacking off of Time Mage). And Reaper had a fairly unique thematic niche. Viper has fricking no identity beyond "the twinblade job". Imagine the reception if Reaper had no Voidsent pact gimmick and was just SE hoping the weapon alone would somehow carry the whole job.

Me and my friends run a guild, and we've been together atleast 3-4 years by now (I'm bad at visualizing time so I don't know exactly, but its a point I can't imagine playing without them). And like, Endwalker started off really hype for us! But golly, it's like every patch that came in it felt like "Okay nothing new for us to do".
One of my friends were super excited for relics...then their relic was just a tome buy. Another friend was super excited for criterion dungeons...then it's really just a choose-your-own-adventure that you do once. Then I was excited for Island Sanctuary...but then it was just kind of an idle game without the idle part.
I guess you could call it burn out, but we would take multiple-months breaks between subbing just to comeback for like maybe a week and thinking "Yeah this ain't it". I think the most fun we'd have was when they finally added deep dungeon, but we didn't even do that too often just because its a nuisance to organize compared to other content.
I don't really have any grand conclusions or statements about FFXIV, I'm just wondering if anyone else has a similar experience and if it's just me or just how the game is currently.
Me and my friends still talk and stuff, just not really about FF or on FF.
Yeah, that's similar to my friend group. Most of them barely play anymore, or some outright just don't and won't until the next expac. It's pretty sad.
This happened. Covid and politics broke the group up at least as much as the game going downhill though. But the game was the commonality and now that isn't there to hold it together.
I'm in an FC that's basically that. I met them at the end of HW but we all played since early 2.x. some of us took breaks in between patches, some stayed subbed. ShB patches were super rough but Bozja/Savage kept us invested. In EW the FC's been the most inactive it's ever been, I think. Some of them are now hopeful/hype for DT but I'm still kind of whatever.

Retail if you want to see the story, Horizon if you want to play something resembling the old fashioned way.
Dawntrail will have heavy FF5 reference and Krile character development.

People realized frontlines isn’t a hurdur it’s 72 man mode so you can’t effect it and started making premades. Even a shitty 4 man premade usually has a minimum winrate of 45%. The good ones get 50-55% with a massive increase on shatter (giga dogshit map, they get 60-70, it’s so bad)
If you are on primal there are legitimate cheaters who queue 15+ hours a day in premade groups with the sole purpose of pubstomping, you probably met them.

The game is incredibly hard to approach if you've never played it before. Most if it being menu driven and having basically zero mouse controls is pretty foreign to most people these days.
not only that, it's also pretty unclear how to advance the story quest, and the other thousand systems that exist not really being explained to you, even finding the first tutorial npc is a bit of a struggle

you are completely right, it takes a fricking while for the combat to get going but it has much more depth than FFXIV will have
you will start watching your character autoattack every 2 seconds and waiting for your TP to slowly go up, but you really sense a difference on the higher levels when your character is a killing machine
