he said the game tries to go for a photorealistic look (in how characters get modeled, lighting, etc) but it looks bad when you look at the game from far away because of how visually messy it is. especially with spell effects.
meanwhile wow tries to be stylistic and cartoony, so everything looks good when you're looking at it from far away, but terrible once you realize shirts and pants are the equivalent of bodypaint. spell effects are less noisy than FF14 but the game is littered with so many by comparison

Lmao. The Dragonflight X.2 patch is like 2 months behind BFA X.2, and BFA actually had really good raids added in the patches. Dragonflight has not had a single good thing added in an update yet. Everything added between the major patches has been the same world event copy/pasted. They cut the mega dungeon from X.1 to move it to X.1.5 to make it look like they were adding more content

I like a lot of the stuff with Wow. From what I hear, boss fights are more complex, classes are more unique, it's a larger world that's easier to make a role for a character that isn't just 'Chosen one'. But you don't get to actually experience the world, so I could never actually jive with it.
At this point you just have to assume anyone talking positive about WoW are paid shills. Blizzard has hundreds of millions spent on marketing. a big chunk of WoW players tried XIV when shadowlands 9.1 came out (the worst patch in history). Then everyone fricked off back to WoW or any other game when they realized XIV story is nothing but teleporting to npcs and mashing through a billion dialogue boxes with zero actual gameplay.
I only played when ARR first came out, and I thought it was pretty bad. I quit after the credits rolled, but apparently it's gotten better. I just can't be bothered to give a shit. I have enough gold to play WoW free forever so it's hard to justify not just playing WoW when I get an MMO itch.
Most WoWfugees seem to stay, if they're even slightly willing to accept they're not playing WoW anymore. The ones that get mad if a game isn't WoW in absolutely every respect (many such cases) go back pretty quickly.

things like vuln stacks mean you cant just facetank every mechanic infinitely, which is essentially what 99% of wows content boils down to that isnt mythic + or heroic and above raiding
i would also argue the average casual ffxiv player is far more skilled than the average casual wow player, the game generally demands more from its players in terms of mechanics
I would argue that casual ffxiv players seem more competent because casual ffxiv content uses training wheels so large that it’s practically impossible to fall off
bad wow players can still wipe in normal wow dungeons because the game doesn’t force them to only pull 2 toothless packs at a time
most casual wow dungeons can, and usually are ran without healers even in random dungeon finder. i dont think you can really argue that that content is demanding of players mechanically

GW2 is great until you get a full set of legendaries then there's nothing to do. They gave up on raids and the guy who made all of the good raid bosses quit so sadly it probably won't get much more good group content. Still a good 2k hours of fun stuff to do, though.

it’s just a reaper portal if you use it for positioning but it can also be used to restore your health and in mop it also could be used to preserve/restore offensive buffs, this is the essence of why wow is infinitely more fun to actually play because the combat has much more depth and this isn’t even touching the fact that wow encounter design makes use of abilities like this much more than xiv encounter design
not to mention that mage also has blink and counter spell and remove curse and spell steal and ice block and invisibility and frost nova and polymorph

i don't believe wow is balanced for anything that its player base cares about, and thats the issue. for all its flaws, xiv's devs do seem to listen to their playerbase, though the interpretation can be off, and despite the playerbase not really knowing what it wants. wow's devs have a specific progression when designing content and everything points at those paths and only those paths. they have gotten better with dragonflight but they have a long way to go before they can even approach the good will they had during late Legion

WoW would be a 6/10 game without the playerbase that Blizzard has built. The speedrun trannies and esport parse homosexuals run rampant in that game. The one thing the game does have is better dungeons, which are really just as narrow and linear as XIV dungeons since everyones running addons that route it for them and show them exactly what to kill.
I just spent 9 hours grinding and crafting a Blacksmith Hammer in XIV that isn't as good as the HQ hammer i made in the last patch.
But its a relic and it glows so it did it and it made the brain release the good chemicals.

I like a lot of the stuff with Wow. From what I hear, boss fights are more complex, classes are more unique, it's a larger world that's easier to make a role for a character that isn't just 'Chosen one'. But you don't get to actually experience the world, so I could never actually jive with it.

I didn't last 5 minutes in FFX1V. At least Dragonflight was entertaining for about 2 weeks.

honestly, i would say on average the "casual" content of ffxiv is much harder than wows casual content
things like vuln stacks mean you cant just facetank every mechanic infinitely, which is essentially what 99% of wows content boils down to that isnt mythic + or heroic and above raiding
i would also argue the average casual ffxiv player is far more skilled than the average casual wow player, the game generally demands more from its players in terms of mechanics

GW2 is great until you get a full set of legendaries then there's nothing to do. They gave up on raids and the guy who made all of the good raid bosses quit so sadly it probably won't get much more good group content. Still a good 2k hours of fun stuff to do, though.

it’s just a reaper portal if you use it for positioning but it can also be used to restore your health and in mop it also could be used to preserve/restore offensive buffs, this is the essence of why wow is infinitely more fun to actually play because the combat has much more depth and this isn’t even touching the fact that wow encounter design makes use of abilities like this much more than xiv encounter design

yes. ffxiv favors balance over identity. the devs have stated they want people to be able to play any class they want and be able to beat the story and raiding.
its AN answer to the question of class design of how the different classes relate to each other. there's no perfect answer to it. but not having to level a new job every patch i feel is worth it
I just think its ironic that the game lagging behind on account wide progression is willing to design their classes to be unique and flavorful and powerful while the game where you can switch classes instantly is afraid to actually make them meaningfully different from each other

i don't believe wow is balanced for anything that its player base cares about, and thats the issue. for all its flaws, xiv's devs do seem to listen to their playerbase, though the interpretation can be off, and despite the playerbase not really knowing what it wants. wow's devs have a specific progression when designing content and everything points at those paths and only those paths. they have gotten better with dragonflight but they have a long way to go before they can even approach the good will they had during late Legion
wow is balanced for anything outside of world top 20 raid prog and 3600+ io pushing, thinking otherwise is just pure delusion
