As someone who actually played a lot of mmo, even if a bit bland, XIV gear progression is seriously nice and a life savior.
It could do with a bit of side grade sure but so far I like it.

Frick Yoshida, frick square enix but more importantly. Frick YOU, for encouraging their mediocrity. I spent the better part of a decade in this game in hopes that it would become something but it only shrunk and went backwards in every conceivable way.
Next they'll remove the open world and add automated taxis to all dungeons because "well players didn't want to talk". And then we'll have automated rotations: "Well, players didn't want to play."
I will never not seethe about this game and the incompetence of Naoki Yoshida and Square Enix.

What people mean, is that this game is barely multiplayer. Not that it's not social.

All jobs have become the same idea, use GCDs over and over to fill gauge, spend the gauge on big attacks while using big cooldowns. We can compare gauge based gameplay to WoW, WoW has different gimmicks, even within specs of the same class.

Well it technically is one. The issue is that after a decade this game is still extremely barebones and an insult to player intelligence.
It is massive, sure, yeah. Multiplayer? Well you quite literally don't need to communicate with another player to achieve anything in the game. You can even play the entire MSQ with bots now.
End-game? I mean, sure, we can call that multiplayer. I disagree, though.
No matter what jobs composition you have, what players you have, or what content you're doing, you will always play in the same way. Use cooldowns to reduce damage/top up the party/deal more damage. You will never not play this way.
You will optimize damage rotations regardless of the player/content. In other words, there is no multiplayer component to the combat. You either survive and have enough DPS or you start over.
Content is deterministic, it's a set of steps basically programmed down to the minute, because raiders refused to adapt. And they adapted to garbage players.
Jobs aren't real classes, there's no variance. They are designed as a glorified rotation with a few situational abilities that might see some use.
I don't care much about metrics, it's a bad game and I once again will always talk about game design.
Listen the very few times I played WoW, I played Warrior. And Warrior might be the exception but Arms warrior is focused on making the most out of its rage. While Fury Warrior is focused on generating as much rage as they can to spend it on big attacks.
If you don't consider these two different ideas, I'm not sure what to tell you.
The execution is different, as are their available abilities and strategies.

I don't really concern myself with whatever headcanon you have going on, you're delusions aren't important.
Look at the reality of the situation. Ultimates are not things you ballbustingly prog for months unless you're a sweaty loser.
The reality is, Ultimates are content you either cheat to clear so that you can show off your epeen to other players in town, or if you can't even be bother to cheat, you can pay $80 instead.
That's what ACTUALLY happens so considering the reality of the situation I fail to see how incorporating more of these additional clarity cheats into the base game would be a bad idea, they've already conceded to giving us party frame debuff timers (woah!) so if you want your players to actually have a level playing field just start incorporating splatoon too.

Why does XIV have the most obnoxious raiders? I've played tons of other MMOs over the past two decades, really the only big one I never played was WoW. Is this a WoW thing? Or is it the high number of trannies? The trannies I've interacted with are hyper competitive with everything, and feel the need to prove themselves 24/7. There is a massive correlation between the two but I feel like there has to be more to it then that.

The fact that you even have to ask this tells me you do nothing but skip the story.
Straight from the start she's a character you can emphasize with, who goes through great growth from a naive girl struggling to keep afloat and unable to do anything for her home, only surviving death by being "killed" before the betrayal happens, to a good ruler, able to stand on her own feet and accomplish many of her own goals.
Going from a girl heavily reliant on Raubahn to an almost role reversal where she pushes him into finding his own happiness knowing she can survive without his support.

As someone who actually played a lot of mmo, even if a bit bland, XIV gear progression is seriously nice and a life savior.
It could do with a bit of side grade sure but so far I like it.
I like a lot of what WoW does, but it's gear system is one of the things that makes me appreciate XIV's "bland but functional" style.
FFXIV has never been about end-game or raiding or even the MSQ.
It's an expensive attempt at replacing a social life.

What people mean, is that this game is barely multiplayer. Not that it's not social.

All jobs have become the same idea, use GCDs over and over to fill gauge, spend the gauge on big attacks while using big cooldowns. We can compare gauge based gameplay to WoW, WoW has different gimmicks, even within specs of the same class.

Well it technically is one. The issue is that after a decade this game is still extremely barebones and an insult to player intelligence.
It is massive, sure, yeah. Multiplayer? Well you quite literally don't need to communicate with another player to achieve anything in the game. You can even play the entire MSQ with bots now.
End-game? I mean, sure, we can call that multiplayer. I disagree, though.
No matter what jobs composition you have, what players you have, or what content you're doing, you will always play in the same way. Use cooldowns to reduce damage/top up the party/deal more damage. You will never not play this way.
You will optimize damage rotations regardless of the player/content. In other words, there is no multiplayer component to the combat. You either survive and have enough DPS or you start over.
Content is deterministic, it's a set of steps basically programmed down to the minute, because raiders refused to adapt. And they adapted to garbage players.
Jobs aren't real classes, there's no variance. They are designed as a glorified rotation with a few situational abilities that might see some use.
I don't care much about metrics, it's a bad game and I once again will always talk about game design.

Listen the very few times I played WoW, I played Warrior. And Warrior might be the exception but Arms warrior is focused on making the most out of its rage. While Fury Warrior is focused on generating as much rage as they can to spend it on big attacks.

The execution is different, as are their available abilities and strategies.

Only like one person was banned in that JP group. Nothing actually happened to anyone else. Streamers got spooked over nothing. I reported Pyro when he had his mods up and nothing happened despite cold hard evidence being right there for the GMs. The only way you get banned for mods in XIV is:

Look at the reality of the situation. Ultimates are not things you ballbustingly prog for months unless you're a sweaty loser.
The reality is, Ultimates are content you either cheat to clear so that you can show off your epeen to other players in town, or if you can't even be bother to cheat, you can pay $80 instead.
That's what ACTUALLY happens so considering the reality of the situation I fail to see how incorporating more of these additional clarity cheats into the base game would be a bad idea, they've already conceded to giving us party frame debuff timers (woah!) so if you want your players to actually have a level playing field just start incorporating splatoon too.

The best part is how some people in the XIV raiding scene act like its so much better than WoW since you aren't allowed to cheat, but the fact that SE doesn't moderate the use of mods in any way means that outrageous cheats like that are possible.
Yeah, technically it isn't allowed, but if the rule isn't enforced then it doesn't really matter. You can cheat to your heart's content and nothing in the game will stop you

Why does XIV have the most obnoxious raiders? I've played tons of other MMOs over the past two decades, really the only big one I never played was WoW. Is this a WoW thing? Or is it the high number of trannies? The trannies I've interacted with are hyper competitive with everything, and feel the need to prove themselves 24/7. There is a massive correlation between the two but I feel like there has to be more to it then that.
