They've practically given us carte blanche to bring people back from the dead between those soul bucket auracites, the general job-crystal-cum-materia method of copying memories into crystals, and of course time travel. Honestly everything outside of savage at this point is either so transient or solo, so it's sort of tricky to maintain social relationships in-game. Sometimes we pass Estinien with half an enrage castbar, and other times barely making it despite no deaths or dmg-downs, and everyone using pots. I don't know how much of that is due to caster upkeep based on what tower mechanic they get though or if other groups have the same problem on that particular phase.

I don't remember UWU/TEA having much for DPS checks we struggled with after mechanics got consistent, but we shifted a couple members around for those due to RL shit.
That's an absolutely awful comp unless your members are good players that can consistently do top tier damage...which it sounds like they aren't.
If you're doing less than 3 or hell even 4, 3 hour days a week I'd just call it because it's going to take you a year and a half or more at that rate and even then if they don't have consistency you'll never clear.
We're doing our usual 10-12 hours a week depending on scheduling.
The thing is looking at fflogs, we're not at the bottom with regards to comparing against groups that did clear the fight. Just we have next to no leniency with frick-ups or rotation mishaps.

If you can deal with that stress then fine, but in my experience having to pray that nothing goes wrong in a run so you can clear is a static killer. It's much more relaxing if you can do a few frick-ups and still clear.

A3S hardened us the frick up back in the day (even if it took us the majority of that raid tier to clear all four fights), so that won't happen. Senei is such a stupid button and adds nothing to the rotation, you could remove it and nothing would change, all you need is Guren with drop off, or let us use both, don't tie them to the same cooldown
If you wanted to free up a button the AoE version of a skill that shares a cooldown with the single target thing would have been my first choice, rather than the single ability that made kenki management something you could potentially frick up. Honestly the kenki gauge has no reason to exist in its current state, much like ShB blood of the dragon.

Yeah, XIV doesn't have the same type of market or currency sinks you'd expect from a MMO. They added a couple mounts you buy for 25/50 million gil, there are a few items on the market that are around 10-20 mil. Personally the most I've spent on one "project" was BIS melding my crafting gear day 1 and that cost about 74 million over the span of about 20 minutes.

I do a lot of crafting out of boredom, once you pass about 20 mil you realize how worthless gil is, literally can't spend it if you wanted to. I thought maybe having a few billion saved up for the Island Sanctuary would be fun but no, it's a closed system.
XI would benefit greatly from combined subs, if you could sub to XI for an extra 3-5 bucks a month it would get so many more people in to check it out.
normal mode raids don't usually even need 2 tanks, if the other tank knows what to do, you have the easiest job in the game. It's not a big deal if neither tanks knows what's going on either, normal modes are meant to be clearable first try no matter how many people are new to the fight

For the newer raids, yeah pretty much. Older raids don't necessarily have indicators for tank busters and you need to figure it from boss animations/cast name

There's some annoying not tank specific mechanics that might make tanking more annoying. Like in the 3rd Crystal Tower raid you have to turn your character away from the boss during the eye attack or you'll have to run to a glowing floor tile to get a debuff removed. Easy enough if the boss is not glued to your ass, but moving the boss makes things annoying for everyone.
I'm not grinding through shit that is complete rng as to whether or not the random people you can't communicate with, know how to read chat or markers you place to burst down dangerous targets.

Queuing buffs between single button spams is a pain and they will never do it. In PVP I have to use sound triggers to remind me where in the 111111 spam I am so I can weave a buff action before burst

gunmage had the benefit of shot procs being instant, so you could plan around having to move around them, you could also cross class Feint if you really needed to move and didn't have a proc ready
there was a lot of oGCD vomit though, the opener basically had you load 3 oGCD buffs before you even started casting a single GCD and you almost repeated it every 90s

This is just logical transformation. XIV isn't old style MMO where you have "roles", proper CC, elemental wheel n shiet, buff/debuff heavy play. The main content isn't like Baldesion Arsenal or open world giga Fate bosses. It's arena fighting with 8 people against 1 boss. And the fights designed with one setup in mind (2 tanks, 2 healers, 4 dps) not in "I don't give a shit" style you can see in old MMO.

I'm always really sceptical when XIV players start talking about 'jank' because limitations and quirks that you have to play around are where pretty much all of a job's personality and fun come from. Having different challenges to overcome define a job's differences. Don't get me wrong, having pet AI eat your abilities isn't the sort of thing I'm talking about, but outright design decisions like animation lock is. If they removed cast times from BLM tomorrow half of you frickers would be out here praising it and saying that the fact BLM needed to stand still was 'janky'.

I don't think the characters or models in this game are that sexy. That's not be trying to be like HURR YOUR WAIFU IS TRASH or something, I just don't the appeal? I'm sure part of it is that the models are probably dated, this game is almost 10 years old right? Maybe if they updated the models it'd look better, who knows.
But yeah I seriously don't get why people jerk off to this game all the time. From modding it to doing ERP and whatever the frick you do outside of the game, I don't understand the appeal. The cat and bunny girls don't look that different than the 100s of other animal girls out there. The lizard girls at least have more scales if you're into that sort of shit. I don't think anyone gives a damn about the other races, except maybe legal e-girls for lalafells. But none of the designs are especially sexy? The armor and clothing isn't that sexy either, it leans more towards cool or cute than sexual. I don't see ANY sex appeal in this game.

Speaking of Machinist I've been thinking about picking it up, maybe. I'm still in ARR, just beat Garuda 2 days ago. I'm a lv52 monk and I'm not really feeling it. I've heard people say that lv60 is when monk really pops off because you get blitz, and people say its actually 70 because you get all of your skills. But I've also heard people say if I'm not liking it now I'm not going to like it 20 levels later and to be honest I think that's more closer to the truth.
So anyway, I was thinking machinist because I think guns in a fantasy setting is kinda cool. Watching Garleans just mow down 99% of the Scions in Waking Sands because Scions are just dumbasses with swords while the Garleans have fricking guns is great. I want a gun now, guns are the goddamn future.
But yeah looking at this thread it seems machinist has some issues? MCH isn't as weak as people make it out to be, it has the lowest dps overall in Savage raids, but in general content such as dungeons, trials and normal raids, you literally won't notice and will very likely out dps other players quite handily provided you keep your GCDs rolling
the turret/robot is effectively a glorified DoT effect, you can choose when to summon it and you can prematurely make it use its ult, but that's all the interaction there is

It's fricking boring, you get absolutely nothing new from 72 until you hit level 90. Thats how fricking bad machinist is, a whole 18 levels dedicated to passives that change nothing about how it plays.
MCH is perfectly fine as a physical ranged unless you're only looking at the very top tiers of damage where it starts to look bad because it doesn't offer any party buffs. They seem to be balancing the freedom of movement (=it's easier) the physical ranged jobs get by making them do less damage, so that's the point I guess.

The tax is valid, it's still harder to play BLM or melee than any ranged DPS even with the mobility tools. SMN is DNC tier though so maybe SMN should just do phys ranged dps.

Personally I find monk braindead. Yes there's more braindead classes but its not as if monk is particularly standout. It doesn't do enough to stand out, its just a DPS class that trades damage for speed. And its not even that fast.
MNK should have kept its positionals though. They took away most of the fun stuff and perfect balance with an additional button at the end, I mean blitz, really doesn't add that much either. It's still my favourite job but autistic optimization aside, it's just as braindead as the rest nowadays.

honestly it has a rigid structure but you have a lot of room to make adjustments and you need to plan ahead how to best use your mobility tools, or else you bleed damage really hard, it requires the most attention of all the casters easily

You have a checklist to get through each phase. As long as you get those things done, you have wiggle-room in how they get done. Contrasting with something like DRG or PLD, where their rotation is almost entirely linear and deviations from that path frick you.

It's one of the most flexible jobs rotation wise, you need to make some quick decisions and plan ahead when to use things like triplecast or where to put down ley lines,... it's a blast to play after you get Fire IV.
BLM is the selfish caster, it does more damage than RDM and SMN, by a decent amount when played well
its rigitiy comes from the fact that your standard rotation will be using Fire spells until out of MP, then going into Ice phase to refresh your mp, dots, and umbral hearts, you have some flexibility in that you can insert a Xenoglossy for movement/damage if you need to, or use a Thundercloud proc, you can also prematurely end your fire phase early if the boss is gonna become untargettable

Nothing about that was made up. DRG unlocked its base 123 rotation so late, that spamming the first attack was more effective than doing 12 because most of the combo damage was loaded onto the third skill. And to make things worse, you had to level that shit job to 34, not 20.
It was actually that the 2nd combo's starter(impulsive drive I think) was stronger than the base 12 combo. Yeah, SE is something when it comes to this game's damage numbers, and leveling was so much more painful back then if you didn't have a tank buddy for those fast queues

Honestly after the first 1k I stopped giving a frick about the numbers on screen, it went to shit after the kino of ARR in more ways than just gameplay.
Basically. In Fire it replaces F1 that you use to refresh your timer, and in Ice it let's you use an extra GCD so you don't have to worry about mana ticks.
Level 90 BLM still has the same skeleton (Fire 4) as a level 60 BLM, so in a way it doesn't change as much as it did between 50 and 60, but there's a whole bunch of extra shit at max level.
Chaos was pretty much main PVE hub and Light is "PVP" and later PVE fcs start transferring to Chaos before EW. With Feasts being dead I assumed all PVPkeks will abandon Light too
I hate both too, but putting anything on the same level with frogs is outright insulting. At least most krauts make an attempt to speak english which is something I can't say about frenchies.

That being said, i actually tried the free trial for this game 5 years ago? i tried a marauder in Limsa and I stopped playing on the same day because it was so fricking boring being a tank class with one damage ability and no actual tanking skills, slowly killing animals in a field and dying to a jellyfish. Maybe its changed now, maybe I was just moronic and I don't remember because it was so long ago. I'm actually super worried that non dungeon content will be such a slog because I'm basically soloing all overworld content as a tank so I'm doing zero damage, or I'll attract a million junk mobs to be my accident and it will make moving around a chore.

It differs. Relics and raids are inherently optional side content. Alliance raids (21 man) have been woven into the narrative over the years and are slowly become mandatory to continue the story campaign. The Crystal Tower used to be completely optional until it became a prerequisite for Shadowbringers a little bit afterwards and dooming Alliance raid roulette into a cycle of shitty lv.50 content.

Not the most optimal comp but we're hanging in there. Problem is just consistency. Sometimes we pass Estinien with half an enrage castbar, and other times barely making it despite no deaths or dmg-downs, and everyone using pots. I don't know how much of that is due to caster upkeep based on what tower mechanic they get though or if other groups have the same problem on that particular phase.
We'll be taking a break to do the new raid tier so it'll probably be 6.3 by the time we're back into Ult prog proper at that point unless we get the new tier consistently destroyed within a 2hr session early.
That's a super low damage comp, and it's not just because of double caster without BLM.

I don't remember UWU/TEA having much for DPS checks we struggled with after mechanics got consistent, but we shifted a couple members around for those due to RL shit.
That's an absolutely awful comp unless your members are good players that can consistently do top tier damage...which it sounds like they aren't.
If you're doing less than 3 or hell even 4, 3 hour days a week I'd just call it because it's going to take you a year and a half or more at that rate and even then if they don't have consistency you'll never clear.
We're doing our usual 10-12 hours a week depending on scheduling.
The thing is looking at fflogs, we're not at the bottom with regards to comparing against groups that did clear the fight. Just we have next to no leniency with frick-ups or rotation mishaps.

If you can deal with that stress then fine, but in my experience having to pray that nothing goes wrong in a run so you can clear is a static killer. It's much more relaxing if you can do a few frick-ups and still clear.
Estinien seems to be a big hurdle for most groups, it's taken us a lot of hours too and we still have wipes there.

A3S hardened us the frick up back in the day (even if it took us the majority of that raid tier to clear all four fights), so that won't happen. Worst comes to worst we may require someone to switch jobs if the double-dragon phase ends up being a dps wall, which'll be easier at least with the tome/raid limit removal from this update.

I couldn't give a frick about the dude or what happened to him if my life depended on it. If you wanted to free up a button the AoE version of a skill that shares a cooldown with the single target thing would have been my first choice, rather than the single ability that made kenki management something you could potentially frick up. Yeah, XIV doesn't have the same type of market or currency sinks you'd expect from a MMO. They added a couple mounts you buy for 25/50 million gil, there are a few items on the market that are around 10-20 mil. Personally the most I've spent on one "project" was BIS melding my crafting gear day 1 and that cost about 74 million over the span of about 20 minutes.

For the newer raids, yeah pretty much. Older raids don't necessarily have indicators for tank busters and you need to figure it from boss animations/cast name
A lot of the ARR and HW bosses don't even have tells or cast times. They'll just shit a tankbuster on you with zero warning.

There's some annoying not tank specific mechanics that might make tanking more annoying. Like in the 3rd Crystal Tower raid you have to turn your character away from the boss during the eye attack or you'll have to run to a glowing floor tile to get a debuff removed. Easy enough if the boss is not glued to your ass, but moving the boss makes things annoying for everyone.
I'm expecting DNC & AST to both get their single-target party buffs removed at some point.

Speaking of Machinist I've been thinking about picking it up, maybe. I'm still in ARR, just beat Garuda 2 days ago. I'm a lv52 monk and I'm not really feeling it. I've heard people say that lv60 is when monk really pops off because you get blitz, and people say its actually 70 because you get all of your skills. But I've also heard people say if I'm not liking it now I'm not going to like it 20 levels later and to be honest I think that's more closer to the truth.
So anyway, I was thinking machinist because I think guns in a fantasy setting is kinda cool. Watching Garleans just mow down 99% of the Scions in Waking Sands because Scions are just dumbasses with swords while the Garleans have fricking guns is great. I want a gun now, guns are the goddamn future.

MCH isn't as weak as people make it out to be, it has the lowest dps overall in Savage raids, but in general content such as dungeons, trials and normal raids, you literally won't notice and will very likely out dps other players quite handily provided you keep your GCDs rolling
the turret/robot is effectively a glorified DoT effect, you can choose when to summon it and you can prematurely make it use its ult, but that's all the interaction there is

It's fricking boring, you get absolutely nothing new from 72 until you hit level 90. Thats how fricking bad machinist is, a whole 18 levels dedicated to passives that change nothing about how it plays.
MCH is perfectly fine as a physical ranged unless you're only looking at the very top tiers of damage where it starts to look bad because it doesn't offer any party buffs. They seem to be balancing the freedom of movement (=it's easier) the physical ranged jobs get by making them do less damage, so that's the point I guess.

Personally I find monk braindead. Yes there's more braindead classes but its not as if monk is particularly standout. It doesn't do enough to stand out, its just a DPS class that trades damage for speed. And its not even that fast.
MNK should have kept its positionals though. They took away most of the fun stuff and perfect balance with an additional button at the end, I mean blitz, really doesn't add that much either. It's still my favourite job but autistic optimization aside, it's just as braindead as the rest nowadays.

You have a checklist to get through each phase. As long as you get those things done, you have wiggle-room in how they get done. Contrasting with something like DRG or PLD, where their rotation is almost entirely linear and deviations from that path frick you.

It's one of the most flexible jobs rotation wise, you need to make some quick decisions and plan ahead when to use things like triplecast or where to put down ley lines,... it's a blast to play after you get Fire IV.
BLM is the selfish caster, it does more damage than RDM and SMN, by a decent amount when played well
its rigitiy comes from the fact that your standard rotation will be using Fire spells until out of MP, then going into Ice phase to refresh your mp, dots, and umbral hearts, you have some flexibility in that you can insert a Xenoglossy for movement/damage if you need to, or use a Thundercloud proc, you can also prematurely end your fire phase early if the boss is gonna become untargettable

Nothing about that was made up. DRG unlocked its base 123 rotation so late, that spamming the first attack was more effective than doing 12 because most of the combo damage was loaded onto the third skill. And to make things worse, you had to level that shit job to 34, not 20.
It was actually that the 2nd combo's starter(impulsive drive I think) was stronger than the base 12 combo. Yeah, SE is something when it comes to this game's damage numbers, and leveling was so much more painful back then if you didn't have a tank buddy for those fast queues

It replaces fire 1 and is instant cast in your ice phase. So yeah.
In fire it replaces fire 1so it doesn't change anything, in ice it's another filler gcd that's also good for movement
Basically. In Fire it replaces F1 that you use to refresh your timer, and in Ice it let's you use an extra GCD so you don't have to worry about mana ticks.
Also you can use it for Transpose memery.
It's overall the same, except you end up with some high tier memes since you get a pretty strong spell if you use Transpose.

Maybe its changed now, maybe I was just moronic and I don't remember because it was so long ago. I'm actually super worried that non dungeon content will be such a slog because I'm basically soloing all overworld content as a tank so I'm doing zero damage, or I'll attract a million junk mobs to be my accident and it will make moving around a chore.

XIV is anti grind. Its' MMO where you don't have content 10 hours later after new patch release. Few existing grinds are blessing.
It differs. Relics and raids are inherently optional side content. Alliance raids (21 man) have been woven into the narrative over the years and are slowly become mandatory to continue the story campaign. The Crystal Tower used to be completely optional until it became a prerequisite for Shadowbringers a little bit afterwards and dooming Alliance raid roulette into a cycle of shitty lv.50 content.
