Link's Awakening is the most SOULful entry in the series next to MM, don't let the israeli switch remake taint it for you. ALTTP is overrated as frick though mostly due to boomer nostalgia.

You're thinking of Ura Zelda, but even that was more than people think. Some parts were scrapped entirely because DD. Some parts made it into Gaiden, which was later named MM. Master Quest is the whittled remains of a much larger project.
