I absolutely love ffxvi. However the community as a whole seems to despise it. Care to explain why? I’m 60hrs in and am enjoying the main story missions, side quests, hunts, and overall gameplay

Same issue since FF10: the mainline titles are not meeting audience expectations. Final Fantasy is menu combat, controlling parties, overworlds to explore, airships, charming aesthetics and characters, etc. Since FF10 we've lost the overeorld and the airships. Since FF12 we've lost the charming characters. Since FF13 we've lost the traditional fantasy setting and music. Since FF15 we've lost menu combat and controlling the party. Every game after FF9/10 isn't Final Fantasy; it's a completely different title with the FF brand name plastered onto it. If you enjoy FF16, that's fine, but to the rest of us it's another disappointment.
>Since FF13 we've lost the traditional fantasy setting
FF7 and 8 would like a word
>FF7
Fans at the time were skeptical, but the game itself delivered so hard most were won over.
>FF8
Was when people started wishing for the old days before shit like gunblades and why some people love FF9 so much despite its massive flaws.
Gunblades are awesome. Complete rule-of-cool awesomeness. A sword that uses a guns recoil to make you swing harder than you physically can naturally. It's why the timing is so important, using the trigger just as you are slicing through a tough part of the enemies body to force your sword through. No shallow or deflected blows here. Criticals all the way B)
>Since FF12 we've lost the charming characters.
Oh frick off
I'm glad somebody else gets it. FFXI was (regretably) the last installment I played. Honestly, IX is the last good one in the series. Even VIII was decent despite being inherently broken and largely departing from the fantasy setting to an even greater extent than VII. The fact was those were at least final fantasy games, they had all of the ingredients now absent from the series and the JRPG genre in general.
8 was my favorite one. I didn't mind the experimentation with settings and worlds, but they should have kept the basic mechanics and ingredients the same for the later games. It's tricky though, because Japanese companies became weary to produce things too formulaic because back in the 80s and 90s, sequels that were too similar were thought to not success as much. That's one reason why Nintendo, for instance, went the route they did with Mario 2. I heard that their people in the US thought the Japanese version was too similar to the original and that consumers might feel like they were getting ripped off or something. I don't know, but I'd reckon a lot of decisions put the art second and the money first.
Pretty legit assessment. They've been skimping on one element or another for a while now and it feels like Squeenix is a sinking ship like Konami was in its later days.
i almost completely agree with you. i disagree with your opinion on 12
FF games haven't had traditional fantasy settings since 1992
Horrible horrible ending
New game bad, and it ain't like the games i played in my childhood im getting old i dont enjoy things anymore do you understand IM OLD AND MY LIFE SUCKS I WANT TO GO BACK PLEASE MAMAAA
It's unironically, zero shitposting involved, not an RPG. It's a barebones DMC clone, except it has LESS RPG progression mechanics that DMC does. Weapons do nothing but give you 5 more strength in a linear path. No element affinities, no status ailments, no statistical variety, no move set variety. Stat sticks, pure and simple. Every quest rewards you with worthless garbage. One of the final hunts of the game gives you 2 Meteorites or whatever the frick - materials you haven't had use for in 30+ hours of game time.
Shit sucks. Just as bad as FFXV.
Damn that does sound disappointing for real.
See I can respect a not an RPG if you back it up with actual facts like that.
Oh well I still have many backlog hours and DD2 is coming up.
>Just as bad as FFXV.
No.
Imagine if you were a regular at a hamburger restaurant. Each time you sit down and get a burger. Over the years, the owner experiments a little here and there, replacing a spice or adding another layer of filling, different brand ingredients, etc. But it's still a burger. The ham and cheese and bun are still there.
After many years, you come in one day and order the usual, but instead of a burger you get a taco. Now, it might be a good taco, but it's still a taco, not a hamburger. This isn't what you came to this restaurant for.
>it's actually a fricking disgusting taco
>the cultists still say OM NOM NOM WHAT A DELICIOUS BURGER
the correct analogy for ff16 would be if you got a taco with nothing inside. entirely vapid action systems. nonexistent rpg play. does nothing exceedingly well.
If FF16 is a taco in this >food analogy, then so are 2, 11, 13, 14, 15, and all the side games.
FF doesn't have a consistent identity and never really had one. FF2 is a wildly different experience to any other TB/ATB FF game.
Op back but I understand the reasoning now. It’s not a core FF I guess I never felt that because I only played 7 and so I didn’t have much expectations on 16 before going in. Either way I think it’s a great game still, yes it’s linear and the weapons are stat sticks as one of you mentioned but those sacrifices were made for story telling, lore building, and of course the visual fidelity and I think they did ok. By no means a perfect game (hopefully ff7 rebirth can be) buT still not as bad as what some peeps made it out to be
Eh, that's been the issue of FF for a while now. No JRPG does everything right, and all good series excell at least at one thing, and FF has been the "graphics above anything else" series for quite a while now
There's a ton of holes in the narrative. The flow of time gets weird in places.
Like, what was the point of Gav?
post the full pic op please
Google reverse image search -> Find source
This shit doesn't work senpai. It's either AI generated or too cropped in. It literally gave me an scryed episode.
It worked for me anon, reverse image search then “find source”
Gimmie the source then cuz Yandex giving me shit.
I don't want to, it's a blue board. I never tried Yandex's reverse image search, I used Google's.
Your imagination is probably better than the full pic anyway
Dude just say the artist name or at least the website you jerk.
anon it's AI shit
>Dude just say the artist name or at least the website
Jill Warrick, red_laser, try that, anon. Now tell me if I was correct or not when I said that your imagination was probably better than the full pic.
It's alright. Reminds me of lasterk. I think the abs area is a little weird but fappable.
I intentionally avoided all discussion or previews of the game leading up to launch and had an absolute blast with it.
MMO devs = MMO quality = Do not Play
Ugly Art = Ugly Game = Do not Play
>Ugly Art
???
I'm just waiting for the Series X release.
Only good FF was XIII. Played a few others (FF1, 4, 6,7,8, and 12), but their gameplay was dull.
I hadn't played a FF game since X, and I enjoyed 16 a lot. It could have been better, yes, but I liked it and that's what matters to me lol
Loved the Eikon fights.
It makes sense for the RPG aspect to be changed to favour action, the turn-based menu was to mimic the RPG Table games, but the more we get into newer and faster devices, the slower this method gets. Someday, a balance between the old school way and the newer ways of playing will be reached... but not yet.
FF16 is like a transition game.
Also... I haven't played any of the others (XI, XII, XIII, XIV, XV, etc etc) so I have no idea how things were for them.
>haven't play xvi
>see this thread
>see OP image
SIGHHHHH
>zips pants
Jill isn't even hot in game so wtf.
