Have you ever played FF7R? Over half the filesize is 4k pre-rendered movies. Exclude those or compress them and you save a ton of space. XVI is all in-engine cutscenes so it's mostly textures.

Decoding compressed formats takes CPU power that modern consoles can't spare for anything other than the actual engine and the assuredly-unoptimized console hypervisor. This has been an issue as early as Rare performing a miracle by getting the N64 to play MP3's, or the PS3 relying on the blu-ray/HDD to pass the buck re: uncompressed-everything. If you have a hacked PS3, you've absolutely how much wasted space is dedicated to uncompressed vids/PCM audio in Multiman, barely any games take an entire BD25 up, and MGS4 would've absolutely fit/ran on other systems if they compressed all it's bullshit. The initial PS3 didn't even ship with the ability to bitstream audio
Most publishers also don't wanna pay royalties to the most common codec companies either, and Epic owning/killing RAD threw a big wrench into the best solution, so expect more uncompressed shit

Yeah but many of its graphical elements were broken at launch and were never really fixed. Mipmapping, lightning, hair meshes and a few other details. Mipmapping and some weird lightning bugs (Galdin Quay!) can be fixed with mods, but the overall weirdness with hairs is still there.
It also runs like trash even on newer graphics cards.

No. The character models in XVI are just kinda okay but everything else looks pretty ridiculously good. The lighting and materials are top notch. when titan shows up it legit looks like it might as well be pre-rendered, same with the shit underground during the ifrit vs phoenix sequence.
The game is beautiful, but I don't think it's pushing the tech as hard as XV tried to. Demon's Souls is still PS5's prettiest game. But XVI is definitely more visually captivating. Some shots are absolutely stellar. When the camera slowed down on Titan's face after he blocked Shiva's icicles I was floored by the detail. Ifrit looks stupendous as well. But walking through the outdoors as Teen Clive or exploring the dungeon with Cid wasn't nearly as jaw dropping. Not that I'm complaining. I think the game looks great.
XVI is not that "heretofore unseen, unparalleled graphics"-tier, but it's more than serviceable to me.
And yeah, some of the moments do look good simply for the sheer scale and atmosphere.
Yeah, you can tell SE is playing it safe this time, especially with the accessories. It's reassuring to hear the game is a lot better than SE has marketed based on the leaks so far. Finally decided to get it after last night's drop.

It's primarily Bazztek, but he has a number of copycats floating around that also go mental whenever he does. Bazztek's own issue is that he believes Final Fantasy XV has had its rug pulled out from under it by Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XVI, and violently attacks the staff of either game and any game that shares staff with them by association. For him specifically the most recent deathblow that's sent him on a spree of getting banned was the demo releasing and being met positively. It seems so far that the only outspoken negative voices are people with a vendetta against the game's staff in some way (Bazztek goes here) or they're actually, genuinely stupid and played the game wrong.

Yeah that was pre-release screengrabs. XIV screenshots in general have a low-contrast identifier iirc, it's why if you're making porn with mods it's standard practice to *under no circumstances* use the screengrabs that FFXIV takes when you hit PrtSc.
