Final Fantasy 17

2D or 3D?
Male lead? Female Lead? Androgynous furry lead?

Evidently they don't have anything started yet. And it sounds like Japan's HR crisis hasn't gotten any better. Seems like they don't have prospective devs outside the ones that are ready to retire.

They say they want someone "younger" but what does that mean? Do they want fresh blood as an heir or a scapegoat?

The PS6 is probably coming out in another 4 years. Something else to think about.

I'd be ok with WoFF2 for the PS5 instead of FF17.

How embarrassing would it be if they spread the FF7 Remake Trilogy across 3 console generations?

I'm not sure who we can realistically blame this on. I think it's everone right? Sony and the entire industry for chasing power trends where consoles are now APUs and draw a phenomenal amount of power compared to the SNES, PSX or PS2.
We blame square for chasing graphics and presentation but those gays were doing that back in the PSX era because it set them apart.
      We blame the fans.
Actually, the fans get it the most, 'cause they're the ones pushing both this, and the idea of remaking a game, perfectly then uploading 4 and a half hour long seethe videos about how square "doesn't get FF anymore" or other delusional statements.
      Frick em all.

MMO team is being dismantled after they cash out with this last expansion. 17 will be a proper high-budget JRPG with many locations and turn-based type combat.

Doesn't matter whether it's 2d or 3d but 2d would be a good way to reign in development time and allow it to hit performance targets. No appealing to graphics gays anymore.
Give it to Asano for all I care.
      >male
      >female
      >furry
Don't care. Give me jobu system, a light hearted story and builds.
      >younger
Don't care, I relate closely to middle aged men. Middle aged men have been the lifeblood of FF and have been the most relateable within the game throughout history.

Also: I am saying I don't want Nojima or any of the edgelord writers near it. I'm implementing a blanket ban on the fujo, no going near the main quest, no ironing out plot details. She can write small, fun but emotionally resonant sidequests.
If no suitable writer can be found, send Saito towards his main man with a few bottles of booze and sack of cash.

You mean to say they'll stop stripping the fun out of XIV with 7.0? You've sold it to me already, an exploration zone at an undertermined date along with no job getting gutted past that point, no dungeon losing mechanics to allow AI to get through it and Dawntrail hunts would stay at their challenge level for eternity. All you need to do is add in upgradeable armour again and tie it to the zone.

Holy shit, is that ever a sales pitch.
Square shoulda had you around at what would become CBU III back when WOTG was in production.
And to top it all off I get to watch youtubers seethe about the new game while spouting contradictions referencing games they've never played well into 2035 and beyond? Holy hell, you sultry devil you.

I'd love that but that team is doing like 6 projects at any given time, and I'd rather they work on original things or give any fricking update on that DQIII remake first

I'd be glad and sour to see Yoshida go as he's a great producer if restrained but a terrible choice for a meddling director.
          >Lacalizer
Fox did some okay work on XI & XII but he's a fricking hack and he's let his team get too brazen in XIV. So good, let him go. He can make a living singing songs to fans and sometimes we'll let him play XI songs if nobody else is available.

Who's the fujo? Not the nice waifu material that did Shadowbringers I hope because that shit was kino. I didn't even know FF had a fujo.

        Realistically blame it on j-boomers:
        >uohhh this gameplay is too hard how to lower the bar to sell to anyone I know 1 button combats tbh tbh tbh
        >uohhh I am a ronery sarariman how to sex up my life i know we will try to hammer our game industry into a round peg to go to horrywood industry square hole tbh tbh tbh it work for kojima-san who now motion captures blonde sloots
You have to keep the graphics, it's ff ffs.

        >These people fundamentally hate videogames.
Yeah, they're like leftists in the west a little bit in that they consider themselves too good for their product anymore.

Make the gameplay a blend of FFXII and VII:R, shackle Matsuno up in the basement and force him to finish a story for the first time in twenty years, and have an artstyle that isn't JUST "hyperrealism". That's all I'd want.
If they're dead set on making another action game, give the main character more than one fricking attack string. My God what were they thinking making DMC-lite except you literally only have square(triangle)square(triangle)square(triangle)square(triangle)

        >Make the gameplay a blend of FFXII and VII:R
Yep, could have done this 10 years ago but now they're getting beaten to the punch by DD2. I hope it is a wake up call to every phoned in piece of polyslop we're still dragging along behind us in this godforsaken genre.

imagine if it was just a classic 2D final fantasy but with a modern high budget and time with no modern "HD pixel art" effects or anything
i guess the question is if you would want just actual pixel art or maybe something drawn like vanillaware

      Anonymous

You can draw pixel art that is high resolution. It doesn't have to look like a PSX game.
Final Fantasy is a "Triple A" game though, those aren't allowed to have pleasing graphics.

      >with no modern "HD pixel art" effects or anything
You could legit just scan in PNGs that Kazuko Shibuya drew of characters in an SD style and I'd eat it up. The pixel remasters were well enough received outside of their....other odd presentation choices. I am a slopmaster, doodle on a napkin showing the 2 frame movement? YUM YUM.
The original games didn't have a great deal of animation anyway. I adored ASW's naomi games and they're beautiful but maybe not what people would call HD today but frick I don't need that in an FF game, what for? Because it's AAA? Why does it have to be three A now? Can't we just have a nice little game?

That goyslop trash ugly as shit wasn't received outside of the typical coomsumers. Pixel remaster and pixel HD are the same or worse than 3D shit.

3D. Final Fantasy without the spectacle is not Final Fantasy.
Female lead would be a good change of pace. They fricked up BAD last time they tried that, so it'd be nice to see them get it right again.
I like FF as an action-RPG, but preferably much closer to FF7R's hybrid combat than FF16's full-on hack and slash combat. It'd be cool to see them try the job system again in this fashion. I'd be alright with turn-based or ATB too, just don't have separate battle screens is all I ask.
I'd like it to be M-rated again, or at least a hard T. It doesn't have to be as edgy as FF16, but at this point, it would be weird for them to be scared to show blood again after FF16 had beheadings and breasts.
I'd really like to have a more original setting, rather than full medieval or alternate modern day again.

A 2D/3D similar to Live A Live would be sick, not open world, pre-rendered backgrounds, pre-rendered cinematics, turn-based battles, something similar to FF9 but with modern graphics and shading. Everything got way worse when they tried to make things too realistic.

I'm still shocked that XVI chased graphicsgays again with Takai directing & Yoshida producing. I'm not sure who to even direct blame at, do we also throw it at Takahashi & Minagawa? All 4.
What the frick were they thinking going for flashy 3d gaaaayum of thrones witchergaysisms graphics?

Ff17 should return to its roots and make a game similar to ff1, without too much spectacle and with more gameplay depth, focused on exploring dungeons and building and nice party. Introduce a few more jobs and let you switch between party members on standby of different classes (up to 8 characters can be created but only 4 may be Active in the party)

I'd be fine with this but you'd have to systematically remove Naoki Yoshida from the team at all levels tbh. The man does not care for gameplay systems!
