Final Fantasy 7

Will we ever get an actual remake that isn't a ">le sephiroth is REMAKING the world XDDD"?
It feels like such a wasted gesture. I skipped out on it because hearing that made me unable to care any less. They built an entire game around a pun. What a joke.

Yeah I started a new fully modded save last night including the voice mod and it's pretty damn cool, feels like the remake people wanted.

Why do you NEED a remake? Just play the original.

Yea, I used to be the same way. Make it exactly the same with modern graphics, and some QoL improvements. But I'm fine with remakes taking liberties now because the original is always there. Also with mods on PC you can get the remake that OP wants. I replayed VII on Steam with mods a couple months ago and it was great. Beat Remake+DLC a few days ago and it was also great. I even don't want Aerith to die anymore because Remake version of her is so good, as well as the entire cast.

People just need to learn to separate the games and see them as different games.

And to be fair, FFVII was one of the first games ever fans widely asked for a remake of after the massive jump in PS2 graphics, and at the time the idea was solely the same game with modern graphics. So I do understand the complaints specifically for VII but I mean, I like the idea of new FFVII content so I'm all for it now.

Because i haven't played the original and the original is dogshit.
Remakes are for secondary newcomers who want to experience those boomer games they hear everyone whine about.

        >i haven't played the original
        >Remakes are for secondary newcomers
The fact that you don't see the obvious hypocrisy in these two statements makes me question your mental acuity. For your sake I hope you're a 12-year-old still learning how the world works (and unfortunately rotting your brain on this shithole website), instead of a grown-ass man who has gone his entire life without having to think about what he's saying.

How do you know it's dogshit if you haven't played it?

The game does not look good in any respect, even for the time it was released. The mods that improve the character models are all incomplete because, big surprise, replacing every mesh and texture for a JRPG is a monumental task that takes years when you're doing it for free. Square/Square Enix also teased a remake for DECADES before shitting out this compilation bullshit out of pure spite.

But more important than anything else, a proper remake of VII would have been a last chance for redemption for the franchise. If it sold well, it might've actually knocked SE out of the attitude that Final Fantasy has to be a watered down action game to sell. Every other traditional RPG they've made outside of Dragon Quest has been handicapped by being new or relatively new IPs. But a traditional Final Fantasy remake, with all the budget and marketing attached to a brand new mainline title? That would have been a turning point, either in SE's philosophy for the franchise, or the discourse surrounding it going forward. SOMEONE would be vindicated depending on how sales went. But SE execs just couldn't risk being wrong so we got action slop with more compilation cringe instead.

This looks like fricking shit compared to games released just 1-2 years later on the same console. Even the background is worse than anything in FF8/9.

            >This looks like fricking shit
lol you are salty. yes technology moved rapidly within the gen and you had more complex visuals. that doesn't mean OG FF VII doesn't look aesthetic af.

            >Nobody wanted a 1:1 remake
What is there to gain from blatantly lying on the internet like this?

            >blatantly lying
neckbeard bro let it go. the remakes have been a huge success.

RPGs are more story oriented than graphics oriented. Fricking Space Funeral is done with MS paint doodles and it's still a good game just because of its writing. FF is also odd because it's always reinventing itself, leading to games that are more hit or miss. Dragon Quest is the way to go when you want something that sticks to the fundamentals (although 12 may change this).

          >FF is also odd because it's always reinventing itself
It never strayed too far from its basic formula before the merger happened. The biggest departures before then were II and VIII and even then it was limited to character building mechanics rather than changing up how the games played altogether.

Getting faster and looser with the franchise has hurt it badly. People blame PS5 exclusivity for FFXVI's underwhelming sales, but the truth is if this franchise still had the pull it did twenty years ago it would have sold better. Like FFX did when it was exclusive to the PS2, and keep in mind it got those numbers long before the PS2 even approached its monumental 150m+ units shipped. Now they have to release multiplat just to even hope to see those numbers. In short, Final Fantasy has a reputation problem.

          >WAAH WAAH MUH TURN BASED

          Sure I do.
          >same basic gameplay with glitches and bugs fixed
          >new assets made to be faithful to the old designs, just higher poly and resolution with better art direction than popeye arms
          >exact same story with a retranslated script to correct errors from the original English release
          >optional new endgame/postgame dungeon for people who wanna go hyper autistic with challenge

You should still have a nice day though.

You're spoiled for options (and without spending a single cent i might add) yet your moronation and homosexual disposition prevents you from accepting that. I'll kill myself at my own convenience, not because a mentally ill moron who refuses to accept the reality he's in, said so.

You refusing to play it with period correct settings is a (YOU) problem.

I would much rather have a spin off that takes place during the events of 7 but you get to explore the rest of Midgar. Like, have the story be about some offscreen fricko who was doing his own missions and occasionally hearing news about Avalanche and shit. You get to see the FF7 events being told from another perspective.

All the shit that they've tried to sell from books to audio dramas to other games point to Sephiroth being the only thing that sells. Not even cumbait works as well as big katana man.

No and we don’t need one. Emulation is fine. Much of the game was designed around the style of graphics. Changing the graphics changes the tone of the game. Just make new games.

brother a 1:1 remake is neckbeard cope. the idea of getting an exact replica of an old game in order to effectively replace the old game has only worked for the very original Resident evil which was made in 1996. if you want the OG experience... the OG FF VII is perfectly playable and enjoyable. unironically 10/10 timeless masterpiece. im playing it after 15 years on the duckstation emulator and it's perfect.

The remake of Resident Evil is the farthest thing from an exact replica. It's designed from the ground up to frick with your expectations and disorient you if you played the original game.
