I feel like he's gonna be cleaned up in Rebirth. He doesn't even smoke any more.
Anon just drink the goddamned tea! $#*%* all the &^#@ time, %#*&@$... Worse than Shera.
poor Cid. squenix is going to cancel him
He was an abusing piece of shit in the original game, of course they are going 'whitewash' him in Rebirth.
To be fair, Shera deserved it. She snatched away his dream of manned spaceflight with her incompetence.
i wonder how the remake project will ruin other classic scenes
This isn't a doomer thread.
im not being a doomer
i enjoyed the demo but i honestly believe they fricked up that sequence trying to shill the haptic triggers
you are only pointing out the glaringly obvious. the feeling of the game has COMPLETELY changed in the remake. they turned sephiroth into a homosexual homosexual...i can literally feel the homosexual vibes through my screen. they made the world setting not feel as bleak or serious. the shinra and mako rector/buildings are supposed to feel like warped horrorfying man made creations, show how bad humanity gets when they're consumed by greed and relentless pursuit of technology. not being able to see the sky in midgar was a critical part of that feeling. its just not the same, the vibe is gone
i still don't know why so much off Remake took place during the day. i really don't know what the frick they were thinking.
>i really don't know what the frick they were thinking
i know what they were thinking. whatever the political climate is, it drips down from the top and affects EVERYTHING below it. they are trying to feminize the population, to make them more docile. in every game and piece of media, they are "softening" it. they are taking away the seriousness, making it more light hearted, using softer color palettes, removing the manliness and masculinity. they want all of us to turn into pussies so they can be the dominating penises. memes and meme culture also has that same "softening" effect. it causes you to not take reality as serious, to throw away your survival instinct, to let your guard down. ever notice how when a man hooks up with a women it has a softening effect on him? thats whats happening to the populace at large. thats why so many homosexuals and trannies are spawning all over the place when we didn't have this problem 10-20 years ago
>/pol/tard babble
Go back
what do you take seriously in life, outside of work? you only take work serious because your SURVIVAL is tied to it. see when there's a threat, it causes you to be serious. without there being fear, which creates that seriousness, you take nothing seriously
sucking the seriousness out of things by making them animeish, using anthropromorphism, memes, soft colors...its mentally destroying you and you don't even realize it. its called mind control
there's this anime called yugioh and i cant help but think of that when i think of this. he uses this card called "toon world" and it turns everything into cartoon...making it all into a joke. thats literally what theyre doing to you
pegasus instead of he*
>they made the world setting not feel as bleak or serious

I genuinely don't understand how SE can be so fricking lazy. Like just record a new animation shit would take 5 minutes
i wanna see how this will be handled
That and the underwater wreckage of the Gelnika could be extremely creepy. But I'm sure it'll lose all impact and just come off as kind of plain somehow

I can't wait that long
Since it's an OG FF7 thread, give me some advice. Im playing it right now, im almost at the end, right before the raid on Midgar, i want to level up my materia, what's the best place to farm AP? Also, starting the raid does lock me out something that i can't do again after it?
>what's the best place to farm AP?
go to the bottom of the northern crater, to the right of the final boss. there's a swampy area with a big circle, just run along that. the little orange ball enemies give you a frickton of AP.
>starting the raid does lock me out something that i can't do again after it?
no, in fact you can return to midgar at any time if you dig up the key to sector 5 in bone village.
mp plus materia, i think it's at the battle arena.
Someone else could clarify it, but I think you need Barret in the party to get his lv4 limit break (or ultimate weapon).

I was replaying FF7 on my friend's PS when I was at University. I lived in an apartment-styled dorm, so there were 4 or so rooms off a central living room/kitchen.
Every single time one of my roommates would wander into the room when I was playing, this fricking song was on. I think he was convinced it was the only track in the game.
Sorry Chris.
I'm fighting this axe dude on a swinging chain in Shinra manor and he keeps falling, it's very amusing
Missing Number gonna frick you up.
if he can even find the code
I liked Barrett, Hell House, Firaga
look how they butchered my boy
>look
nah
Yeah probably
My favorite character was always Barret. There was something to cool about having a meaty-tanky character who could dish out the damage from the backline without issue. I always put him in my party.
He was actually my first encounter with a black person in a video game and he left a really good impression on me. A guy willing to get things done, protect his allies and his daughter and honor his friend's memory.
Too bad about Rebirth though, that shit looks slop.
And don't forget he had a gun for a hand, and gun hands are very cool
True! The gun-arm was iconic, and I'd always want to play as Barret when me and my friends ran around the forest and pretended to fight Shinra troops. Man, Barret was a cool dude.
Looking back, I feel more bad for Barret. The way things went down with AVALANCHE and with Dyne really fricked him more than I realized back then. You can see it when he refuses to take the lead after Cloud is gone and Tifa bails after her big push to find him, or before that when he talks about founding avalanche at Cosmo Canyon. He was a gruff butthole but he was really down to earth. A widower that wanted to leave a better world for his adopted kid. I like to think he and Cid became bros.
I thought dyne was cooler. wish you could have recruited him
I liked Dyne's design and gun-arm, but when he says he doesn't want to go back to Marlene, he was dead to me. Blinded by revenge.
I have a feeling that his sullen self-pity and need for revenge are going to be overshadowed in Rebirth with a more loud and traditional portrayal of psychosis.
>breasts still too small
I think part of the reason people liked Barret so much was that the fact that he was black was never a big part of his identity. He was a good man first, who just happened to be black. He never bought it up, and no one else did either, it was as if his skin color really didn't matter and he was defined through his actions not his appearance.
There was this weird little part between 1995 and 2005 where the world was almost entirely "rid" of racism, simply because race wasn't really considered a big deal anymore. It flared up again though for ~~*unknown reasons*~~.
I mean, that was still pretty recently after the whole Rodney King thing, aaand the OJ trial... but I do get your meaning. It was pushed a lot less than it is today by a country mile, without attempting to sew as much separatism and division
It's just changed recently from "race doesn't matter and we should value everyone because we're all the same" to "race matters and we should value people who are different". The latter tends to make people in the majority group (white people in most English-speaking countries) feel threatened because it changes who needs to do the "work" of assimilating culture. The former version where race "doesn't exist" implies that things like African American dialects are just "wrong", so Black people should put in the effort to speak more like the majority. The latter version implies that dialects and less common religious traditions are equally valid and should be "appreciated" as they are, which means the majority group should make allowances for them to exist comfortably.
It's been a slow shift, but the latter view is the more common one now, which has been an uncomfortable shift for people raised in a cultural climate defined by the former view. It's not so much a nefarious or conspirstorial push as it is just an academic reframing of who is "responsible" for maintaining cultural harmony between different people groups in a nation. It will shift again over time to something new, and a new generation will probably feel similarly left behind.
As a lifelong darkie myself I still prefer the former ideal of color blindness, but whatever. Gonna try not to drag the thread down with too much real world political junk. Let's just pretend it's 1998 and we're too young and preoccupied to really give a shit about any of that.
>Gonna try not to drag the thread down with too much real world political junk.
Yeah, good call.
People do like to talk about FF7 being political, but I have to say that most people probably just feel a bit blasé about the message that "we should oppose the giant mega-corp that has turned half a continent into a barren desert to sustain a city built on top of slums and is willing to murder its own citizens to maintain control". It is obvious hyperbole in service of the story, not really something to comment on real life much.
occupy Wallstreet. class wars turned into race wars to get the population off of the elites back.
I don't think anyone gave a shit what ethnicity you were in FF7, just whether you were with Shinra or one of the faceless cattle. People didn't even give much of a shit about if someone was from Wutai, despite the recent war. It's just some tourist spot that Shinra b***h-slapped the shit out of. Just like they backhand anyone else who gets in their way. Dystopian megacorps tend to put things into perspective like that I guess.
I hope we get to fight the option Weapons

Should I try New Threat? Are there any other good mods people would recommend to give it a go?
I'm just sick of how easy the game is... But I also don't want to play a stupidly hard version of the game. Grinding a bit is fine by me, but not super cheap bosses.
New Threat is pretty good, yeah. I'd argue the balance is perfect, as its more about figuring out each new boss than it is grinding your way through it.
I always loved the scene where you steal the Tiny Bronco as a kid. I just wish it went on a little longer before it gets shot up and crashes.
Everyone always goes yada gada Aerith dies but I was more surprised that Jessie dies... I always saw her in fanart and other media and porn so I always assumed she would be a party member... but she just dies at Midgard...

i wonder if he'll be a boss in Rebirth
The design is just too radical to be left out, maybe not as memorable as hell house but still. If we're lucky, this is a boss protecting a piece of equipment/materia near the Gongaga spot.
>Barret, never left my team
You know, I wouldn't really have considered Barret my favorite, but this is true for me too. He's always been on my short list of party members to use. Ranged attacks, good bulk, decent limit breaks, and he looks cool.

I love 7's weird ass enemies
Same. The monster house has always been one of my personal favorites on the goofy side.
I don't know if this is the case but my headcanon is that when the team was given 3D software for the first time they were told to just experiment with it for the sake of feeling comfortable working with it and by the end they just included everything they had made into the game. That's my explanation for why 7 has some many weird enemy designs and minigames and mechanics. They just threw in everything they could without any worries. Nowadays you just wouldn't see a game going from "ah man, this is depressing" and right into SSX.
>that image
>Nowadays you just wouldn't see a game going from "ah man, this is depressing" and right into SSX
That's why Aerith will live in the remake and go snowboarding with us
I hope she brings back Tellah and Galuf and General Leo too.
The minigames were supposed to be a similar story to that. Small teams of developers (possibly interns) were told to make a quick 30 second game and that's what was put into FF7
Having a bad ending in video games takes real balls these days. The best we get is a "meh".

I love tonberrys but if you're asking for ff7 exclusive ones then I think the ones in shinra hq are pretty neat
playing 7 and remake again makes me realize we'll never see that level of creativity ever again
Not necessarily. It may seem like the age of classic console RPGs is over, but I believe we'll see them again in some form. We'll just have to tide ourselves over with the occasional echo of their style of storytelling from nu-square or indie devs until then.
look how fricking beyond bland XV and XVI are

Why did they remove the Black Materia from what's arguably the safest place it could have been? Is Cloud and the rest of the party moronic?
Really, what was the plan here? It doesn't even make Sephiroth look cunning or anything. It makes Cloud and the rest of the team shortsighted and stupid. You can't even defend it by saying, 'Well, they couldn't have predicted that Sephiroth would mind control Cloud,' because they know the guy is the strongest bastard on the planet, so they could at least count on him to take it by force. And they also know that Shinra is after them (they didn't even notice that a spy had infiltrated them until the spy admitted it himself). These guys are pretty dumb.
If the spy could grab it with a remote control drone, Shinra would have figured something out eventually. Hell, no need to even send in robots when you have as many disposable troops as they do.
Im gonna play ff7 for the vert first time today. Should i go with original dogshit graphics or download that mod that gives everyone nice, chibi models?
Go with the dogshit original graphics, they may look terrible but at least everything will look equally terrible. The mod creates a terrible clash of styles and fidelity that looks arguably worse than the original graphics.
The mods are dogshit, anon. The only one that looks, on it own, mildly appealing, is pic related, but it clashes with the rest of the assets present in the game. There are other mods that uses AI to ""enhance"" the background, and they all look terrible. I don't know why the FF7 fandom can't understand that you can just blowup 320*224 backgrounds into 4k using waifu2x with good results.
Should i also go with original translation which i heard is really bad at some places or use the retranslation mod?
If I recall correctly, the one with the awful translation was the original version on PlayStation. The one Square released back in 2012 on Steam has a new translation that’s more accurate. There is a fan retranslation called Reunion if you want to check out an alternative, but it has a lot of questionable changes of its own.

Does anyone else try to give their characters traditional FF “jobs” with Materia? I played it like that on my last play through ahead of remake and found it more fun than playing “normally” as the game is easy enough to accommodate it.
What I did was
>Cloud: Red Mage
Basically jack of all trades, has basic Black & White magic and frequently use Elemental Material
>Barret: Walking Tank
Has Cover and access to Protect/Shell/Reflect
>Tifa: Monk
Relies a lot on D.Blow and Counter. Also gave her Cure & Heal to mimic the “Chakra” skill
>Aerith: Sage
Has access to basic Black Magic and all White Magic
>Nanaki: Blue Mage
Basically make him the “ultimate beast” with Enemy Skill
>Yuffie: Thief + Ninja combo
Has Steal & Throw
>Cait Sith: Beastmaster
Has Manip + all the Status Effect magics; often paired with Nanaki to get E.Skills
>Cid: Time Mage
VII doesn’t have a good setup for Dragoon, but since Cid’s story is all about going to space the Time & Gravity Materia felt fitting
>Vincent: Dark Mage
Cloud has access to all basic elemental Black Magics, so Vincent gets all the “weirder” or more advanced ones like Poison, Contain, Comet, etc…
