Besides, it's left quite open in the sense that you can't tell who initiates. The kiss so early on in the story though, even before Mideel, and super bold, on Cloud's part, felt super weird to me.
That writing of what happened is terrible. He has 0 respect for ffvii, and he doesn't understand a single shit of what happens in the end. His brain can only process "muh timelines muh Zack 1 or 2 le aerith 1or 2"
It's possible that there is no timeline bullshit, only 2 planes. The lifestream/world of the dead and the normal world.
So Zack is still dead along with Biggs which they can be seen "alive" together in the trailer.
Sephiroth and Aerith are mostly-dead but being high-rate Ancients they were able to traverse the lifestream and exist in both of these planes.
This whole timeline garbage makes absolutely no sense in FFVII's setting.

There's no way Tifa was disappointed at how Cloud turned out. With no mako treatment, no Jenova Cells, he tossed the strongest fighter on the planet off his own sword and into a chasm, after what he did to their town. Again, her memory is trash, but Tifa thinks Cloud is a hero. And honestly, she's right.

Tifa's memory is hilariously shit, but you can bet something left an impression from back then, at the very least as a kid she'd recall that people were pissy at Cloud for being there when she got hurt. And, again, this ties directly into what she winds up saying at the well, otherwise that's out of left field. I know we want to think this game's plot is random dumbass word salad, but it's okay to put 2 and 2 together sometimes
Speedreaders always see Tifa as some gaslighting b***h purposefully keeping Cloud in his delusional bullshit but the fact is she's traumatized by everything as much as him and can't remember much either. She got cut open by Sephiroth after he killed her father and burned down her entire village, people keep downplaying her own grief and traumas because the game is focused on Cloud's POV at all time, but she's just as broken as him.

That's the one thing I feel like Remake does extremely well - fleshing out characters, and giving them a ton more of alchemy between one another. They probably hired the writers that made it work out so well in FFXV (which was also the only good thing they did in this game). Aerith definitely has all her memories and already knows the future. I think the other characters are in a similar boat, slowly realizing this isn't their first rodeo with the loop.
I guess he is still confusing his story with Zack's (so lying in his head to make himself not seem like a failure/impress Tifa, a lie that lasted so long he started believing it himself). But this does completely obliterate the "he thinks he is Zack" narrative, since if he remembers Zack, then he is not "confusing" himself with him (which did not happen in the OG, where he had no recollection of Zack at all).
Remake seems to take place after Advent Children (maybe Dirge) and by then OG Cloud has a pretty good connection to Zack in his mindroom or whatever so maybe that still persists to some extent now even after the reset
I don't think he remembers Zack for who he was, I think he just heard Aerith and Tifa talk about him and is projecting the name onto some random Soldier, the way he told that random story to Tifa in Remake about leaving the village and joining Soldier in her room. He still has to properly remember who he is truly and who he is to him.

In the original, Cloud was regarded by Seph as a perfect puppet so he spent a lot of time and effort to break Clound’s mind.
Technically, it’s still cloud but his mind is so fragile that he can breakdown anytime in disc 2.

I don't think anything has been confirmed at this point. (I doubt this is after 500 years though, it's just another timeline. The OG, and everything that happened there and in AC after and in DC after, will forever remain the exact same, in its own timeline. Though it is possible that in said timeline, by the end, Cloud does turn into Sephiroth, and now he is just hoping around timelines, who the frick knows. I don't think either of the Clouds we see in Remake is the "OG" Cloud though.)
This applies to all other characters too except for Sephiroth (or should I say Jenova, hard to tell, since technically it is Jenova who kills Aerith in the OG, not the real Sephiroth, but no one ever talks about that), and Aerith, since I believe we do talk with OG Aerith in her resolution scene in Remake (Part 1).

She doesn't remember much about anything, that's the point, both Cloud and Tifa are in a haze, and both help each other remembering things in the lifestream section in mideel. She stills has those feelings for him though, they only make more sense as they both remember everything.
Tifa's memory is hilariously shit, but you can bet something left an impression from back then, at the very least as a kid she'd recall that people were pissy at Cloud for being there when she got hurt. And, again, this ties directly into what she winds up saying at the well, otherwise that's out of left field. That's the one thing I feel like Remake does extremely well - fleshing out characters, and giving them a ton more of alchemy between one another. They probably hired the writers that made it work out so well in FFXV (which was also the only good thing they did in this game). Remake seems to take place after Advent Children (maybe Dirge) and by then OG Cloud has a pretty good connection to Zack in his mindroom or whatever so maybe that still persists to some extent now even after the reset
