Popularity results in good things like fame, money, clout and a general feeling of success in a capitalist society. These feelings in an individual and a company can be great, but in a society where growth (line go up) is the most important factor for any public company. In these cases popularity tends to mean more copies of said art need to make it into the hands of more people to make sure the line grows in the correct direction.
The only real way to do that is to degrade the art until its just product.

I like this one. It's bigger and focuses more on the dudes NOT shooting Sephiroth or making any attempt at running away from the dude who essentially just massacred a village.
The only real arguments I hear against why they didn't shoot him is because he's essentially the Michael Jackson of that universe. Insanely popular and all of Shrina's lawyers would come down upon whoever dents him physically or his image. He's also, up until this, beloved as a war-hero.

There's no way to play this scene correctly unless they show these people panicking and fleeing or actively attacking. Everything in between feels awkward as shit.

The funny part is if you don't push the buttons they'll literally just dance around him until the end of time. The scene does not advance until you press those buttons.

Remake came out in 2020, which was 2 years after God of War, which is notorious for forcing these fake QTE events (I call them fake because you don't actually have to be quick and the game will wait until you've willing to complete them) which was very popular.
I assume production of Rebirth started right after Remake released and they probably thought this stuff was a really good way to keep the player engaged in the events and not distracting them from it.

If I had to take a complete shot in the dark I'd assume they haven't programmed it to handle asset LOD correctly. The engine is probably rendering things the player can't currently see, in very high quality, and since there is a set FPS-goal the engine is actively stripping away things it sees as "unnecessary".
The problem with this is that it's not an issue that can be fixed this close to launch so the game is going to be plagued with this shit.
Lighting works completely different because it needs to be dynamic now, all the lighting in remake was baked in so that's why it looked that good. You cant do that in a game like rebirth.

First one has less dynamic lighting. The lighting you see is chosen by an artist to make the scene and characters look good but won't respond as well if there are changes in lighting. The newer one is probably using procedurally generated lighting or some general ray tracing solution. Hell, it might even be AI generated.

After hearing Sephiroth taunt Cloud about killing his Claudia back in the opening of Remake I was hoping we'd get to see the full confrontation rather than just hearing her telling Cloud to run from off camera.
If he'd held his sword up to her neck as she cried in fear it would have made the scene so much more intimidating and shown of just how far fricking gone Sephiroth was. Perhaps he could even look menacingly back at Cloud or something while she begged him to run.
But all this would be cool and interesting and add to his character and we can't have that.
That's more or less what I was expecting going into the demo. It would firmly establish Sephiroth turn and his new characterization as a murdering psycho and it adds some truly personal stakes to the tale that Cloud's telling. They really dropped the ball there.
