I was about to say it would give even less reasons to use Amarant. They should make throwables as strong as they were in early FFs, especially in IV where I remember you could 9999 easily enough with Edge and random Fuma Shuriken you find in chests.
Probably have her statline not make her hit as hard as Steiner or cast White Magic as well as Garnet and Eiko.
Also, considering Steiner's skillset takes techniques from a lot of warrior-inspired FF classes, I'd focus Beatrix's skillset so she's more Paladin-like, like have her Holy Sword skillset include a Cover move so she can choose who to protect than have it be up to the passive version requiring low HP to activate (though she can get that one too). Maybe take away Holy from her White Magic skillset and introduce a Holy Sword Art that deals Light damage as well + take away the spells she has that causes status effects (and add Cure to their place since Beatrix already has Cura so having something that shows some natural progress there would go a long way). The four big sword arts she already has (and which Steiner can learn as his ultimate arts) can remain though.
Forgot to mention what would change for her when she Trances. Make her take half damage + make her immune to all status ailments (ailments that hit her before she Trances must be cured as normal though).
Generally, Beatrix should probably be the premier damage soaker of the team if she was a permanent playable.

I think these two could tie together. Have Freya be bitter against Beatrix and have a 1v1 fight later in the game that you can win. Yeah it would all be a copy of Frog and Magus but it'd be far more satisfying than just having Freya be a non-character and would give the player some catharsis to beating down Beatrix. Hell, you really should have been able to win the third fight to begin with because it wouldn't change anything anyway.

Personally, the Kingdom Hearts series and Trials of Mana remake were good action RPGs from Square Enix... but those also have action in their blood compared to Final Fantasy, and the mainline Final Fantasy action RPGs are generally overshadowed by the non-FF ones in my opinion.
I still felt a sort of progression in them though.
Granted, I think the Trials of Mana remake did it better since anyone not a specialist would play entirely different from other versions of themselves depending on what class path they choose.
I don't dislike having RPG mechanics in an action game, but the way nuFF does it makes you wonder what it was even trying to be in the first place. Really hope that if a FFIX remake happens and it has ATB, SE will get the hint if it also sells well.

I'd agree, but with no actual limit break system outside of Trance you're fricked when it comes to bosses. At the very least there should be a way to make sure it doesn't get completely wasted on random encounters.

have a hidden trance multiplier in the code that makes trance more common in boss fights only. That way, you can still use trance on random encounters and then during bosses you're more likely to get at least one trance

Basically, her arc is about her not being able to be alone. She was basically obsessed with her boyfriend, but when fratley said i dont remember you lol, she lost everything. She meets amarant, whos all about being alone, and thats why they get along. Freiya learns from amarant that and she manages to be fine
