Finally got this one done. About as flawed as I expected, but still a great time.
If anything, it made me realise FF truly is long dead, which funnily enough fits with its themes a bit.
But what did (You) think of it? Is it a 10/10 I got filtered out of? Is even calling this good far too much and it doesn't get nearly enough shit?
And is there any hope for FF or should we just accept the soul is another?
Today Final Fantasy is no longer a good series anymore.
It's just a commercial shit load of trash.
Especially with garbage games like ff16
Yeah, I upgraded my PC to eventually play XVI which I guess I'll still do since it's what gave my PC meaning I don't really have any other modern games I play to justify it but I'll re-evaluate how I look at future releases.
Amarant turned out better than I expected by the end though still tarded.
Oh the slow pace is not too nice but I managed, played it on original hardware.
Feels like it's the last FF game overall to be tbh with you.
Steiner > Zidane = Vivi > Eiko > Garnet > Freya = Quina >>>>>>>>>>>>>> dry paint >>>>> Amarant
Yeah, it's - unfortunately - dead. Unless square does a 180 with the franchise.
We want 4 homies in a row gameplay with an overworld (stylized is enough) and a good story and atmosphere. Is that too much to ask for?
This game improves if you have a fast forward feature. I like emulating it so I can speed through all the slow bits(99% of the game)
From what I know, this is the last good FF game. After this, we went straight downhill into shit like 10. And that's saying a lot, since 8 came before 9 and had a dogshit story and gameplay.
10 is the first FF where square really shit the bed. FF12 was a beacon of hope but 13 led the series into darkness.
FFIX is my favorite FF but I still loved X, don't see how that one marks the series going downhill, I'd say that was from 12 or 13 onwards.
10 started the linear corridor bullshit, removed the overworld etc.
I hated it when it came out and I still dislike it now.
Still has all the essentials of a true FF. Turn based, airship travel, switching party members in combat was great too.
nice airship homie
Look man, it's a good game. I just hate it.
And Breath of Fire 4 had the better backrow system. Which is pathetic, a mid-budget Capcom RPG outplaying Square like that a hardware generation prior.
I thought I'm the only one that hates 10 (but loves 12).
XII has some good shit, but felt pretty rushed later on. Shame about the development trouble, could have been so much more.
Nah it's an 8/10. And that's overlooking the shitty performance of it running on PS1 hardware when it came out.
Its a great game, I just got done playing it for the first time myself.
Knowing nothing about it going in it really surprised me. Its pretty flawed but I really enoyed it.
It also has the best character in the franchise: Vivi. His arc was really compelling to me and he was so likeable the entire time. The gut punch at the end is brutal too.
I liked it until the city gets nuked and then the game gets boring as frick for some reason
I remember loving this game as a kid, but when I replayed it recently I didn't like it much. The game only gets good when it opens up properly very late on.
Ugly Art = Ugly Game = Do not Play
It's the last truly great FF. After IX, the series begins it's downfall. Coincidence or not, IX is the last FF that didn't had voice acting. FFs after it range from "fine" to "garbage".
Terra is the best and most beautiful part of FFIX
It's nostalgia talking but there will never be a cooler final dungeon than Memoria/Crystal World, just a godly atmosphere
I liked Ultimecia Castle better but Memoria/CW are breddy gud.
Memoria is so good
Too bad Pandemonium still has the best theme
you realize nobody actually plays FF right? you can just be a fan and not play the games at all.
I realise playing video games isn't the Ganker way to do things, but I still prefer doing so.
Which way, Terran man?
this way
I prefer this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tJYN-eG1zk
Reminder that the first game was supposed to be the fricking final Final Fantasy. It went way past its expiration date and should have died way before whatever point you think the series went downhill.
Reminder that it's only called Final Fantasy because the team wanted "FF" and Fighting Fantasy already existed.
that's just some bullshit people came up with
https://www.eurogamer.net/final-fantasy-creator-debunks-myth-of-series-name
>Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi has confirmed the origins of the series' name.
>For years, myths have circulated and fans have speculated, but in a new interview to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the series, Sakaguchi gave a definitive answer.
>"It's not actually all that cool a story," he said. "It was inspired by Fighting Fantasy."
Fighting Fantasy are Choose-Your-Own-Adventure RPG books.
>Reminder that the first game was supposed to be the fricking final Final Fantasy
It was literally announced alongside X and XI
FFIX is the best of the series and absolutely godtier. But I only played 6,7,9,10 and 12
I played it recently for the first time. It was alright but it's missing great moments, like one we have in 6 or 7. I feel like the whole garland thing was not fleshed out enough.
Of course it’s “dead” compared to what it was two decades ago. Are you the same as you were two decades ago? Probably not. But your old self is dead.
I never cared for it that much. I felt that there were too many callbacks to past FFs instead of being its own thing.
IV-VI were peak FF. VII-IX were movie slop and everything after was shit
So is he an Eidolon or some cosmic force?
Not really explained but I don't think it's an eidolon since those are made of the crystal's memories. He's just an entity that appears due to Kuja's will to end reality.
