Anyone hating on 7 is a contrarian.
Anyone hating on 8 is a NPC.
And anyone hating on 9 might as well say 1-6 were always garbage games because 9 was modeled after them.
>Square made 7, 8, 9, Tactics, Chrono Cross, Parasite Eve 1 and 2, Vagrant Story, Xenogears, Legend of Mana all within 5 or so years of each other >all had unique casts, worlds, stories, and all had absolutely insane OSTs still beloved to this day
What a fricking psychotic run, what the frick was going on in there?
I dunno how I played games like this as a kid. I tired to play FF6 recently and had to the speed thing to make it go faster and I still got bored. My attention span was much better as a kid.
commercially mostly
with that said we might even say X was the actual pinnacle
"artistically" i think they really came together in the early to mid-1990s anyway
I streamed almost every FF last year for my friend who was playing 14 but never played any of the other mainlines, so my opinions are somewhat refreshed.
7 is overall the best. It's not a perfect game but it's pretty enjoyable start to finish.
8 is a little odd mechanically but once you get junction you kind of break the game. The story is actually pretty interesting until the weird decision to connect everyone through the orphanage + making Ultimecia so disjointed. The fan theory of her being Rinoa would have been way more interesting.
9 is a weird mix of lighthearted + black pilled. It had a really enjoyable main cast aside for Quina/Amauront who don't really ruin anything, it's more like who gives a frick about them. Going with the aliens/clones route and making Zidane a hypocrite with all the stuff he said to Vivi was stupid imo. Also the final boss prefaced by a Yoda quote was so fricking bad I actually laughed.
tl;dr: 7 > 8=9. 7 best, 8 and 9 are mostly enjoyable but have more glaring flaws.
>Going with the aliens/clones route and making Zidane a hypocrite with all the stuff he said to Vivi was stupid imo
I wouldn't say he was a hypocrite, he just went through a bout of depression after finding out what he was. Before that Zidane thought he was content to just not know
He was basically trying to "Shoo Lassy" because he was having a breakdown from self hatred at being a weapon so he leaned in on it so he would push his friends away (to safety).
I tried out FF8 and FF9 for the first time last year and I think enjoyed FF9 the most which was kinda surprising. I didn't think the one with the homosexual looking cat guy as the main character would be the most enjoyable. Story was surprisingly good and I felt the gameplay was better than 7 and 8
It's because Zidane isn't a social moron like Squall or Cloud. That being said all three of them seem to have this thematic connection with hiding their true selves because of insecurities.
lol yeah that's true. zidane is more likeable compared to squall and cloud. one of the funniest moments for me in the game is when he calls the queen fat
best protagonist >FF8, Squall
best secondary protagonist >FF9, Vivi
best overall party >FF7
best main villain >FF7, Sephiroth
best cast of villains >FF7
best love interest >FF7, Aerith
best art style >FF8
best world setting >FF9
best single location >FF7, Midgar
best music >FF7
best individual song >FF8, Breezy
best combat system >FF7
best customization system >FF9
I like 9 the most overall, but I think 7 is the most fun and replayable. 8 is kind of a mess, but some of that adds to the fun and its card game was much better than 9s. Even though 8 is a clear last place here its still much better than other RPGs on the console like Legend of Dragoon.
7 > 9 > 8
inb4 contrarians
correct
8 and 9 are solid but the above post has the correct order
wrong
morons
I’ve only played 7, 10, and tactics. are 8 and 9 worth playing?
>are 8 and 9 worth playing?
no
>are 8 and 9 worth playing?
yes
>are 8 and 9 worth playing?
Maybe.
yes, both of them
frick anyone else who worships one and hates the rest
8 > 7 > 9
only girl for squall is quistis
With nostalgia/worship: 7 is best.
But 8 is actually best.
9 is better than nothing.
7 > 8 > 9, saying that as an FF8 gay. FF9 sucks balls as well, one of the most overrated games ever made imo.
8 > 9 > 7 but 6 is better than all of them.
depends on what you like. I enjoy all 3
he didn't ask which one you enjoyed dipshit, he said which is the best and which is the worst
which you gotta provide some criteria for it first
can you reach that with your mind?
What a great thread idea holy shit.
Thanks. I actually went to college for making exceptional threads
think I took the same class, Applied homosexualry?
7 > 8 > 9
Anyone hating on 7 is a contrarian.
Anyone hating on 8 is a NPC.

I don't like 9 because it's boring as frick and slow as molasses. Much rather just play 1 or 3-6 instead of playing 9 again
Game has the same wait timer as the other 3 and the time difference is relatively the same. You might as well say 7 and 8 are slow.
>Game has the same wait timer as the other 3 and the time difference is relatively the same

7>9>8
9 > 7 > 8
Black folk
9>7>8 but they're all good.
9 > 7 > 8
8 had good moments, but the game was designed for self insert losers, the characters are really bad
8 = 7 >>>>> 9
>Square made 7, 8, 9, Tactics, Chrono Cross, Parasite Eve 1 and 2, Vagrant Story, Xenogears, Legend of Mana all within 5 or so years of each other

Game Development not costing as much back then?
I dunno how I played games like this as a kid. I tired to play FF6 recently and had to the speed thing to make it go faster and I still got bored. My attention span was much better as a kid.
7=9>8
7 is the tightest game mechanically and gameplay wise
9 has the best story and most memorable characters
8 has great parts but it’s also weird, somewhat nonsensical and the gameplay has a couple glaring issues.
None of them are bad, and I can understand why people have their favorites, but 8 just doesn’t match the quality of the other 2.
>9 has the best story and most memorable characters
wrong
best: FF7
worst: FF9
>Which of these is the best and worst
7=8=9
these 3 games are the pinnacle of the series
Frick you you piece of shit. You're entirely right. They were the pinnacle of the franchise.
>They were
They remain uncontested so far
commercially mostly
with that said we might even say X was the actual pinnacle
"artistically" i think they really came together in the early to mid-1990s anyway
10 is the best game in the series, followed by 7
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I have a soft spot for 10 but it is not the best. 7 is definitely better
None is particularly good, 7 is extremely overrated, 8 is boring as frick qnd 9 is charming but very bñoated and unfocused.
Starting from worst and working our way to best
>9
It’s just very slow and monotonous. It rides off the coattails of previous games and it’s only saving grace is Vivi.
>8
It had some great ideas with the Junction mechanic but only idiots with low IQ wouldn’t be able to appreciate it.
>7
It’s Final Fantasy VII
I streamed almost every FF last year for my friend who was playing 14 but never played any of the other mainlines, so my opinions are somewhat refreshed.

>Giant Space Flea From Nowhere
Final Fantasy 1 final boss was garbage too
>Going with the aliens/clones route and making Zidane a hypocrite with all the stuff he said to Vivi was stupid imo
I wouldn't say he was a hypocrite, he just went through a bout of depression after finding out what he was. Before that Zidane thought he was content to just not know

Dunno, but should I play the PS1 version of FF7?
yes, obviously
Okay, fine.
you already have them in proper order (worst to first)
I tried out FF8 and FF9 for the first time last year and I think enjoyed FF9 the most which was kinda surprising. I didn't think the one with the homosexual looking cat guy as the main character would be the most enjoyable. Story was surprisingly good and I felt the gameplay was better than 7 and 8
In summary 9 > 7 > 8 for me
It's because Zidane isn't a social moron like Squall or Cloud. That being said all three of them seem to have this thematic connection with hiding their true selves because of insecurities.
lol yeah that's true. zidane is more likeable compared to squall and cloud. one of the funniest moments for me in the game is when he calls the queen fat
8 > 9 > 7
7 has the material junction system
8 has the draw system
9 has a pretty consistent setting
They are different
best protagonist
>FF8, Squall
best secondary protagonist
>FF9, Vivi
best overall party
>FF7
best main villain
>FF7, Sephiroth
best cast of villains
>FF7
best love interest
>FF7, Aerith
best art style
>FF8
best world setting
>FF9
best single location
>FF7, Midgar
best music
>FF7
best individual song
>FF8, Breezy
best combat system
>FF7
best customization system
>FF9
I wish everyone could easily play Vagrant Story and Brave Fencer Musashi, but they've never been ported....
Emulation isn't that bad. Duckstation has improved things greatly.
7 is the only one anyone played.
7>9>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>8
9 >= 7 > 8
Take me home
Not sure if it's just nostalgia for me, but this overworld theme is magical for me.
