The reviews that dropped XVI's score are the likes of Eurogamers that gave it a 3/5 because it doesn't tackle slavery while not having blacks in it. There are one or two smaller publication that did gave some valid criticism like the lack of any RPG elements. Which VIIR and Rebirth are not lacking.
The demo alone had more vibrancy and life to it than the entire XVI campaign. They don't have the same flaws at all.

I'm talking about the second demo. I own and beat XVI. It's a slog. Within the new demo alone there was more combat variety, RPG customization, party interaction and everything else that makes FF enjoyable. I don't care about what other shit you're saying, but to act as if people are going to favor the fanfic remake over XVI because of nostalgia is ludicrous. The demo alone is just a straight up better game.

Eh, doubt it. It's not as bad as Remake. And on graphics mode, the image is pretty sharp. There's a couple of bad texture work and foliage pop in but they're not exactly in your face like the doors in Remake. From what I've seen. And besides, in Rebirth you'll get to see different areas with different aesthetics. So the "tiredness" from seeing similar things are kinda mitigated.

That would be my only tip, dont listen to the dumbfricks that complain about drawing magic too much, just set your GF's to learn refining magic from items first. It will click for you after that, promise.
