Dunno what this is exactly about, but what are you supposed to do until the job you are required to play isn't unlocked?

you start as freelancer, and once you get to the Wind Crystal one of the jobs is selected for you and your entire party becomes that job
When you get to the Water Crystal, one of your guys has to stay with the Wind job and another has to take the Water job. The other two can be either of them. And then you keep going until all 4 characters have unique jobs selected from your roll.
as soon as jobs are unlocked, you'll have at least one

I'm going through the pixel remasters and V is next in order
I was thinking about trying it with random jobs since the previous games were easy enough

I'll probably play according to these rules but I'm not signing up anywhere

      Anonymous

if its your first time playing the game I'd say just play it as it was intended, there are a lot of cool combinations and the battle system is really fun

        Anonymous

I like the job system in 11 and 14 but in 3 it ruined the pacing (for example having to switch from a lvl 60 white mage to a lvl 1 devout) so I doubt I'll like FF5 and I probably won't replay it so I might as well play with challenge rules the first time

          Anonymous

5 doesn't have straight job upgrades like 3 does.
It also doesn't penalize you for changing jobs.

          Anonymous

          >so I doubt I'll like FF5
Your doubts are misplaced, like always.... I wonder how many times you were told that.

no FF5 is a big departure from FF3 and actually fun
          basically sets up FFT

          Anonymous

5 takes the job system from 3 and makes it better in every way. It's telling that spinoffs like 4 Heroes of Light and Bravely Default are all love letters to FF5.

can't speak about bards but Chemist can mix items that can do stuff like:
        Berserk + Haste + Blink
Inflict status ailments on bosses. Some bosses can get Berserk applied to them including Omega and Shinryu
x2 Max HP for the fight
level +10 for the fight and can be applied multiple times and it has a cap of 255
Full HP and MP recovery on revive
        Absorb elements

        for a full list:

Bard is silly. One of the most important stats in the entire game that influences damage and such is actually your level. And bard can just boost that mid battle, to ridiculous degrees, funny for the final boss. Barely used chemist since I mainly do challenge runs and have never used/gotten it in recent memory but it can just mix items to kinda do, well, anything you want. You’ll need the internet to tell you what and how to make your concoctions but they’re just ridiculously strong.

        Anonymous

Bard just has so much unique shit it can do. It has the best stop effect in the game that even works on several difficult bosses like Omega. It does a shitload of damage to undead. It has a ton of buffs, the most important being the speed and level buffs. Easily beating Neo-exdeath here

Yeah. I'm tempted to do another run since I rolled 2 busted jobs and had a super easy time. I ended up a bit overleved since I actually did the trench for meteor.

for example is only possible because bard's buffs made me fast enough to kill him before he casts Almagest which does like 2x most of my parties max hp in damage.

        Anonymous

They can bot raise you level to 255 in battle and max your stats with minimal effort

Maybe, but honestly most of the bonus dungeons they added for the gba releases are shit anyway. The only one really worth doing is 2's soul of rebirth.

                Anonymous

The psp version of 1 is the exact same as the gba except it has different graphics and music. The psp version of 2 adds 1 more dungeon, but also significantly reduces the rest of the game's difficulty by increasing exp gained and reducing the encounter rate.

I never saw the appeal of Knight. Does it get better skills after Two-Handed? I always saw Samurai as "Knight, but not shit".

        Anonymous

if your fiesta lacks jobs that can use the chicken knife properly and you have a knight, eventually you have a powerful weapon in the brave blade
no attack skills though, no. That said twohanding weapons still hits like a truck

        Anonymous

No, but 2 hand is all you need damage wise. It hits harder than ninja and ranger for basically the entire game. Also having access to shields and the unique knightswords which are all huge stat sticks really pushes it above the other basic attack jobs.

I'd swap berserker and whitemage, rest is honestly luck of the draw.

isn't it kind of weird you can go to a career fair and decide you want to pursue a career as a feral berserker or furry

      Anonymous

having one white mage is easy mode, they make you invicible to stuff like vacuum wave and almagest
they just perform poorly without damage dealers backing them up.

        Anonymous

The problem with almagest is surviving the damage in the 1st place, not healing up after.

          Anonymous

shell heavily cuts its damage. Normally you have to jump through hoops to apply it and white mages get it near the start. Any fiesta with a white mage is tutorial mode

            Anonymous

But that's only relevant if your both party has no damage and doesn't have a single job with enough hp to tank the hit which is basically impossible. There's so much powerful shit in 5 that neo exdeath really isn't that big a deal.

Shit unless you also got black/white/time
      >beast master
Pretty good, but time consuming to gather the right pokemon for every fight
      >chemist
Top 2 job in the game, but also time consuming/expensive to stock up on items for the broken mixes.

Reminder that the game can be beaten solo with every job.

Pure berserker or mixing in other stuff until it unlocks? I ask specifically because im pretty sure pure is not something that can reasonably be done. Statistically its barely possible and requires some deranged luck/tool assisted luck manipulation. Gaia axe quake procs I think.

              Anonymous

The game has been beaten by every possible job combination at this point, including 4 copies of each job. In the 2017 infograohic for the fiesta, there were 14 runs with 4 berserkers, 5 of which were finished.

              Anonymous

Pure Berserker. The hardest fight is actually Byblos since he has both protect and drain. Once you're past him the rest of the run isn't bad at all. Neo-Exdeath can't do shit to you with an aegis shield + Mini in the the back row.

                Anonymous

"solo with every job" was the original post I questioned? Found the vid. Its crapper in quality than I remember god damn. Though I guess a new strat for solo berserker only could have happened in the last decade.
                >It took a stupid number of attempts, but considering that the odds are even more ridiculous than that, this is still a very lucky win.
                >I had two computers running, each with six instances of ZSNES on max frameskip, continually automatically initiating battles with NeoExdeath. I had ZSNES recording each one onto an external harddrive, and when I looked back and finally saw the "The End" screen, I was able to load back that video and re-record the victory
                >Gear used: Earth Hammer / Aegis Shield / Thornlet / BoneMail / WallRing
                >The odds of getting that many Earthquakes in one fight? Very very very low. It's a 25% chance each time.

                Anonymous

Yeah, that guy is really missing out by not being mini. Earthquake is magic damage so you aren't losing any damage and get a shitload of free evasion. It still takes forever, but is super safe.

                Anonymous

Is this some crazy secret the community doesnt know? Searching for solo berserker attempts online and only finding more people that got stuck at the end.

                Anonymous

Is it? I've seen people doing mini berserkers for years. Try it yourself some time in a non-solo run and see how long your level 30ish berserker lasts.

I'd swap berserker and whitemage, rest is honestly luck of the draw.

White mage is fricking dogshit in 5. It isn't even close to being as strong as Berserker.

                Anonymous

it doesn't have to be strong, it's there to keep your party alive when you have little else and cast holy every now and then.

                Anonymous

Just buy potions. Healing in battle isn't even something you do very often in 5.

                Anonymous

All I found was 2 more people trying the solo berserker challenge, one giving up and the other using more modern emulation and scripting tools to get another win through the same methods.
Either we have our wires crossed on what version or what is allowed in a 1 character, 1 class challenge or there are a bunch of FF5 fans that dont know about mini berserkers.

                Anonymous

You can get mini'd by the tiny mage enemies so I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed. You just have to not use a tent before the boss.

          Anonymous

Berserker is in theory. One guy had 5 separate instances of Berserker solo vs the final boss running on repeat for literally days and only had a single win.
Every other class can solo the game with varying levels of difficulty. Some guy named Sullla has a site with write ups for them. I've done Blue Mage, Cannoneer, and did the first recorded Oracle solo runs myself.

      Anonymous

Easily. Monk will carry you though the early game and you've got plenty of endgame power. The hardest bit will be the end of world 2. Just make sure to farm some reflect rings in barrier tower and you shouldn't have too much trouble.

damn. I've beaten this game 5+ times over the years but thought Bard was only good for Requiem. I've always known Chemists have good Mixes but I'm too lazy to take advantage of them.

FYI, Brave Blade was buffed in PR. every 5(?) battles you complete deletes 1 escape from the BB's damage calculation. so it's pretty easy to keep it at full power unless you're farming Dragon Whiskers from Shinryu or something.
