Final Fantasy VII

Is dividing the game into multiple parts a new tactic to extract as much money as possible from paypigs?

Nah, the main reason is they are moronic and don't want to utilize abstraction which means the scope and scale is blown up.

      Anonymous

This. I mean money is likely a factor too, but I think it's just Square being genuinely moronic, which isn't exactly new.
I also think people tend to forget how much abstract nonsen- I mean "adventure" there was in FF7 to begin with. Remake and its abortions is the same shit on an updated scale. Just a lot uglier. I'm actually amazed how ugly a lot of FFVIIR is, considering it also has some of the greatest looking sequences in vidya. Unfortunately, a handful of highs can't, for me, compensate for the dozens of hours of eyesores. And earsores for that matter, cause holy shit is the dialogue embarrassing especially now that it's voiced.
Oh and the gameplay is incredibly easy, same as the OG even though it's a different system, so you can be absolutely sure money is a primary motivator. Has Final Fantasy ever been anything more than an attempt to be accessible and appealing to the largest crowd possible? I stand to reason you have to be afk or use Cait Sith to even hear the Game Over theme in the source material.

I initially thought it was an attempt to keep everything in the remakes without any compromises, but what i didn't see coming was them changing the story for literally no reason. They had a golden ticket to success with this formula, and they still fricked it up.

no one is saying they want an exact remake. this is just some shitty strawman you came up with. it's embarrassing. They could have easily remade the game with out making it a sequel and expanded on shit. fleshed out main characters that have basically no story arc. Hell they could have gone nuts and changed sephiroths father to vincent instead of hojo and I bet no one would care. You have a toddler parrot brain. You're fricking stupid and the only way you can win an argument is if you make one one up first and project on every one else. god you're fricking stupid.

It's succeeded in me ignoring it until it's "finished" or sonething close to it. Surely it'll be repackaged in some kind of "ultimate" edition or whatever so frick it I'll just wait for that. I bought the first part on release, it was cool, but I'm not dying for more.

Yeah, I'm actually counting on that and I'm also counting on a true remake, since they'll have all the assets. They'll do it, there's no reason for not doing it.

    [...]

I'll repost this from another thread:

I have a piece of mind playing this because I know that they are going to reuse all the assets to truly remake the original game once everything is over. It's okay then.

Considering that Ever Crisis is also retelling Advent Children, I believe that it's possible that they'll, eventually, port the whole compilation in this format. It's free money with all the assets and text written at their hands.

      I don't think so
Remake was legitimately the right call, the game was still 60 hours or so and it didn't feel like any one point was particularly stretched to pad for time. Assuming it just comes down to how long it takes them to make assets and content, I don't see a world where any company would spend 11 years developing a 180 hour single player RPG just to sell it for 60 bucks. They could have easily loaded remake with costume and character DLCs if all they cared about was milking people, I think the 3 game plan is a happy accident (for SE) of their fiscal obligations meeting with the realities of the game development pipeline

The first one had 5 hours of actual story content, the rest was stretched out FFXIII hallways made of grey concrete and metal containers. 5h into 30~35h.
    What do you think?

Also, reminder that most of these game's production is outsourced to 3rd world countries like Malaysia and India, with a handful of Chinese asset launders (they steal shit, modify it just enough, sell it as their own asset, can't be sued apparently) which is why both of these games look nothing like VII, and are just generic slop.

  20. 8 months ago

Considering how poorly the first chapter sold, it’s probably also a sales tactic. Hence why they also re-issued the first one so fans would double dip. If you slow release an episodic remake and also double dip enhanced versions, the same 3 million people keep buying them and you increase your sales

Not the same thing, they're just different versions of the same story, but each game concludes its story and is complete on its own, they also released at the same time with Revelation coming only two weeks later. A tactic to make people double dip for sure but not as scummy as releasing an incomplete game.

Cid Highwind. If the game ends at the midway point, then that's most likely the trip back to Nibelheim. Vincent might be like Red was in Remake and just guest-only. Save those two as new party members in Part 3 along with re-recruiting Cloud in the party later.

It'd be interesting to have a DLC that features both Cid and Vincent as party members of each other. They just have like... 0 interaction in the original and any of the compilation. Well, I haven't played DoC so I can't be sure, but I'd really like to see them interact more as the two oldest members of the group. They have potential for a great dynamic, Vincent the old but still young-looking dude who wants peace and quiet, and Cid the old fart who curses non-stop.

I am fricking pissed after the trailer, criticize what you want about the new remake, at least Nomura and the other guy understand what FF is about and try to update it to the present while keeping some stuff intact.

Meanwhile Yoshi P wanted to make Japan God of War disregarding everything, like jesus christ, a lot of shit about JARPG was solved by both KH and FF7R, both games feel like an actual rpg with systems and have this turn based combat style feeling while being action games.

16 makes me mad, you can tell a ton of effort was put into the game but it was all misguided, like resources and talent were not short in hand but you still get up with such a mediocre product it makes me seethe. You can talle it has a good base but to me it seems like the dev never asked such a simple question, is my game fun? Does it excite me to play it? Is it exciting to explore or learn new stuff? Is it exciting to open a treasure chest? Or upgrade my gear?
