With how slow these fricking slow updates are, late next year for sure. Crazy how they advertised this game as a retelling of the FFVII series of games, we wont get any of the side titles for literal years.
Mini guide on the vague stuff:
>Everything in this game is multiplicative and the thing to remember with that is that increases become greater than the sum of their parts while decreases see diminishing returns. Two instances of 20% attack up become a 44% buff, but two instances of 20% damage down only become a 36% reduction in damage
>Levels of Faith, Bravery, Barrier, and Manaward each count for 10% adjustments. Level 3/High Potency Barrier does offer a full 30%, it's not 3 instances of 10%.
>When looking at an ability "potency" is how many levels the status will move, "max potency" is how high that ability can push a status after repeated casts. "Extended" refers to how many seconds you add to the status if you cast it multiple times in a row. (No, it doesn't fully refresh the status.) Using Glenn's Pumpkin Lamppost as an example, it has Mid potency, max of High, duration of 30, extended of 10. This means that you can cast it twice back to back for 40 seconds of 30% attack up, or space it out for 1 minute of 20% attack up, both for the same ATB cost.
>PDEF and MDEF points work out to about 1% damage reduction per 3 points in the stat
>Regen applies 15% of your healing potency every 3 seconds. It captures your stats at the time of cast so if you cast it from defense stance you can switch back to attack and get the full benefit for the whole duration, including if you extend it from attack stance. At 5*, Platinum Collar will heal for the same exact % of potency as Fairy Tale or Prime Number and by max OB it will actually heal about 35% more, but over 18 seconds instead of all at once.
-Crit and Crit Potency are separate multipliers. You have your damage, it get multiplied by 1.25 because of crit, then the % from the R.Ability is added to the new number. This means at 55 points, you will crit for 2.75 the damage of a regular attack. It can come in extremely clutch during temporary vulnerability states like Chill on Shiva or killing an enemy quickly to weaken a group attack like with the SOLDIERs' Bilzzaga but averaged across an entire fight it's only about a 15% DPS increase versus no R.Ability making it the worst DPS increase in a vacuum
>20% of the damage you take in a Criterion or Crisis dungeon is subtracted from your max HP with limited exceptions like Poison not affecting max HP and some of the low damage numbers not conforming strictly to that 20% because of rounding

This. I personally blame it on the fact that every banner is an event banner. Murasame and Edged Wing are the best 2 weapons in the game, Prism Rod trails but is still good. I skipped Murasame as a day 1 player and regret it. I thought it was bait. Surely power armor Zack or something cool for the FS trio was right around the corner I thought. Cloud's FF9 weapon actually is the best non-element attack but non-element fricking sucks so that's not a big win

The first couple weeks I used my premium quests to farm memories for the characters I like, but between those runs and the battle tower my characters are good to go so I just do weapon materials 3 times a day and call it good. I try to keep 30 of each material on hand just to be ready but in situations like this where I know I won't be pulling for the new weapon I will let myself get down to 0 because I have time to build up. Whenever I hit 60 I just kinda level a weapon I have at high OB.

Certain ones like ATK/Crit Potency are less desirable, yeah. Some free weapons come in hot with good combos like HP/MDEF though. None of them are any amount of difficult to get anyway. So I don't see why you wouldn't get them.
my point is that event weapons should be something that you actively seek, not something you farm because there's literally nothing else to do in the game

The ai tends to shit the bed during this event boss fight. Either Aerith refused to heal during the spell spam or your team mate's decides to attack soaring enemy.

For me the fight was really healer dependent, had to run both healer Aerith and Tifa while also spamming mag down when they buffed themselves
i got very lucky with aerith' guard stick, i have it at ob3/4, so i managed to pull off 2k heal and 6400 hp each.
the hardest thing in this fight was forcing cloud to use the fricking sword instead of spamming random ruinras

Too slow with content rollout. There are the people who came their brains and souls out long ago who are mad that the women are not naked, but that's not a factor really. It's just that this game advertised itself based on presenting a story to you. The FF7 remake we got bamboozled out of, the BC story we can't access anymore, the donut steel Sephiroth wank, we're basically all primarily here for a story. The surprisingly solid RPG gameplay is just icing on the cake. Unfortunately, staying on top of that story takes about 30 minutes in a given month. So then you're left grinding in a way that would seem like parody if you described it to anyone so you can take on a small handful of admittedly fun challenge fights.

Considering what they tried to do with Dirge of Cerberus and show in Advent Children, it seems like the idea (at least back then) was to have him basically be gunslinger Dante while normal (focus on range and movement with very basic melee), but then switch focus to melee combos while transformed in his limit breaks. Except for Chaos, which is supposed to be a straight improvement over everything else in every way (as long as he's still in control of it).

In some way I guess it's there so that if you finish your weapon on a given banner and then get it by accident later it doesn't do literal nothing, but it's nothing enough that you should probably just trade them for grindstone chunks

As long as someone anyone is doing enough water damage to keep the meter low, Ramuh is a very easy, straightforward fight. Ramuh is just punishing because he will snowball against you. Also, protip: Zack equipped with Black Whisker and Meteor shots as the LB can do like 60% of the work in a given run. Give him a healer and he doesn't even need a 3rd party member lmao

Aoe attacks feel kinda useless overall, they were pretty much useless in Reincarnation so they always needed to throw debuffs to complement them
Yeah, they're super niche. They're useful to delete adds sometimes, including in the Ramuh fight, but in 99% of cases you are better off just taking the higher potency single target attack.
Weapon sucks, especially because for some reason it only has "Ability potency" instead of "M.Ability potency" despite having physical on his weapon and outfit. I do slightly want the outfit though, so I might take this opportunity to fish for some wish list stuff

protip for how to handle new summons:
>beat normal to unlock it
>beat hard and farm hard to level up the summon to lv5 and to complete the first half of the skill tree (alternate between hard1/2)
>beat the vh one once
>unlock aoe summon at lvl1 and always use that one (it does more damage than the single target one at level 5)
>wait for the coop event
>do 50 vh1 missions at 60 stamina
once finished you'll have the skill tree completed, all the campaign missions done, and both weapons at ob10 (even if you start with ob0 on both you'll still get enough piece to max them out in the coop).
also you're saving tons of stamina from farming half of the tree solo, which is longer because of ads and gives way less drops. plus you still would have to do the 50 missions for the campaign anyway (even if done at 20 stamina per game it's still not worth it)

The best source of Fire or Quake damage is still just jerking off Sephiroth's MATK and giving him a materia so this outfit helps that, but it's not in the top tier or anything

Acranum and Mastery outfits, by nature of the fact that they offer a unique bonus that not only can't be had from a weapon, but multiplies with it because you can have Frost Arcanum and Ice Potency going at the same time

It can serve that purpose depending on how you want to set up your team, but Sephiroth can do it for himself with Aonibi. It takes ATB he could be using to attack but it can free up a spot for Aerith to bring a Mythril Rod or something.

Just booted open the game and the daily single runs of the Waltz fight is recking my team that used to auto easily for both Lucia's weapon and the other dude's on the highest difficulty.
When I paid attention the third time, Sephiroth isn't using his debuff anymore and Tifa isn't healing at all.

Waltz is a coin toss when it comes to healing. I run 2 aoe healers and get B rank.

At first I thought someone was trolling during the Ramuh fight because he was ignoring the sparks and casting ruin blow instead of water blow on Ramuh, but now that I'm exp farming I notice that sometimes my party fails to break the enemy's stance despite all of them having the correct sigil breaker.
Or worse, allow a cactuar to run away by never switching target.

Non elemental. Only 2 bosses have a weakness to water, Green Dragon is always a pain and the final bosses are the Astral Iron Giant and the Specimen who both lack a weakness to any element. There are water potency boosts as the crisis level rises but considering that most people are going to have their eye on the score boost instead, water is not worth building around

That has not been my experience, personally. I put together a fairly generic unga bunga team just to grab the rare items and get a feel for what buffs come from what boss and got within 1% of the points required for S+. If I would have brought some form of breach for Iron Giant and the Scorpion it would have been locked in first go. Also, very little incoming magic attacks so my Amulet Tribute is kinda frickin worthless. If I had to guess, I would think you're hamstringing yourself by playing too much to the dungeon, making yourself bring a water or even a physical non element weapon at low OB just because they are best here. The buffs and even the bosses are pretty much all generic though, just jerk off your best DPS as much as you can and turn them loose, except Thunder damage Cloud unfortunately, he gets resisted a lot. Use a matching jelly to delete a boss you're good against extra quick for the time bonus

People will call me crazy for this, but actually Aerith is my least favorite healer. The quick cast time of Curaga A as well as the instant 0 ATB heal of Healing Wind makes her good for pumping through healing potency in an "oh shit" situation, which definitely does have a place, especially early on in progression where maybe you really only can scrape enough HP and DEF together to limp past a big hit. I would argue though that once you are fully "in" the content you should be planning, building, and playing around those moments so your cheeks aren't that clenched. Tifa's uniquely low cost heal is going to get you healed faster from 0 if you just dumped your ATB on attacking or statuses, so she would be my recommendation if you are trying to be agile around surprises. For my line of thought and my style of play, I would say Red and Matt>Tifa and Cloud>Aerith.

Tifa's heal is smaller than Aerith's, but it's 71% of the strength. At 4 ATB bars it winds up slightly worse on a per-ATB-bar basis, but again the benefit is being agile, which coupled with things like her excellent debuffing, 800 charge LB, and good R.Abilities, puts her higher in my mind
I get fricked by the Scorpion with his incoming aoe missile barrage. Too much damage and it lowers my points. Is there any counter to that, like if you kill the adds first does it stop the missile barrage?

OO has long since run out of characters people actually care about, so without some kind of drastic change to it's monetary strategy it was bound to drop off like this. New weapon tiers can only take you so far when the majority of your players can guarantee them with free currency alone.
BE will just keep re-releasing the same popular characters until they eventually break the game itself hard enough for even the whales to stop caring.

It's a different strategy.
In OO characters have their one setup and that's it. Once you have their weapons, they're done. No more money to be made there, so they need to keep releasing new characters.
In EC you got lightning Cloud, then water Cloud, then magic defense buff Cloud, etc. Until a character has a full set of costumes and weapons for single-target, multi-target, physical and magical of every element, buffs, heals, etc, there's more money to be made from them. And by the time they've cycled through those, the meta will have changed so much that the earlier ones will be outdated and they can release a revamped version with a new look.
And that's before we even get into the possibility of new gameplay elements, like if they add combo skills from Rebirth that require (or get powered up by) having specific characters together in the party.
The thing is that with the current model pulling the latest weapon/outfit doesn't give you a decent enough boost in battle power.
Like, if you are not gonna OB3 the latest meme weapon to bulldoze your way through the current event then you might as well ignore the banner entirely.
So far anything aoe that doesn't apply a debuff seems to be garbage so I guess non shitty aoe will be a good place to start.
Weapon pulls really arent about getting the latest and greatest in EC. It's more about getting your wishlist set up correctly and building your team around boosted R. abilities.

Aerith's seal evil isn't so bad, but that's mostly because the only reason to use healing wind is because you are out of ATB and REALLY need to heal.
I regret maxing Waterkick because Tifa will remain bad Aerith until she gets a good weapon.

This was the same issue Nier Reincarnation had, AoEs were always shit because you never fight more than 3 targets in a battle so they needed to had more stuff to AoEs, like buffs, debuffs. healing or multi hits, EC already has this issue from the start with limit breaks, AoE ones are useless, well maybe aside from Summons

Probably not. The outfits are good, but the rule should be that they fill some sort of gap or need that you currently have. Getting one because it's "good" is most likely just gonna be wasted gems. Sephiroth's is probably the one most people can get the most use out of, which works because the Kuja weapon is the best part of the collab
