These days you have to spoil the entire game or else morons won't understand. I recently understood why from Granblue Relink, threads are full of morons who still don't know what genre the game is even after tons and tons of gameplay videos and a fricking demo. Modern gamers these days need a streamer to hold their hand.
Heidegger is John Dimaggio who was the FF13-2 Gilgamesh. SoP Gilgamesh is Keith Szarabajka who is also Gilgamesh in like every other Final Fantasy including World and Chocobo GP
>final fantasy sale on steam
i don't remember ever playing any final fantasy games. which games should i play as a newcomer to the series? should i play the original FF VII or just go straight to remake?
If you can stomach old games, play the OG first. It'd be a better experience.
As much as they sold the remake as a "newcomer's experience" for the marketing, they made the game very much with people who played the original in mind.
But then again, it's your free time, so your call. OG ff7 takes a good 40 hours to beat, assuming you're not using the included cheats to skip random encounters and fights.
Then again, that's if you want to go into VII, you can always just pick another number. It's an anthology series after all. Just pick what looks cool to you.
Explain FF7R ending showing Zack fighting army of Shinra soldiers to someone has only played OG.

>hey remember that scene when Zack got gunned down by 2 Shinra grunts before he and Cloud reached Midgar? Yeah they made him fight an army of Shinra soldiers instead
That's more of a stylistic retcon and doesn't really change anything except make Zack a little less pathetic

There's no need too since his death is already in the OG, but you'd know that if you played it.
You don't even need OG FFVII to understand FFVII Remake. It does add some good-to-know context and results in a likely different overall perception, but it would not lead to more confusion since you'd come up with theories to fill the gaps yourself (e.g. what happens at the end of every more open-ended mainline FF in the past) unless you are a homosexual who needs every single thing spoonfed.
Just saying how it is. By all means, play FF7R without having played OG and CC and without having watched AC if you absolutely need to (you don't need to, though)

You are not allowed to play Remake until you have played FFVII og, played Crisis Core and watched Advent Children
>which games should i play as a newcomer to the series?
VI or VII if you want to know why this series used to be so beloved. X is “old graphics” bother you.
Really everything from IV to XII is great
>should i play the original FF VII or just go straight to remake?
this franchise is fricking done
The Steam ports of FF games are all broken trash and look and sound significantly worse than the originals.
You should emulate the games like every intelligent person used to do before the zoomer generation and its computer illiteracy came onto the scene.
If you're old enough to save the world, I'd wager you're old enough to get a tattoo.
The more surprising thing would be Galuf (featured in this picture) allowing it.

weird how at it's core, even the cherry-picked 'qte before qte story confrontation' is still more fun than the new flashy pointless crap
What are the rules here? Teleportation is a thing but you still have to slowly climb a ledge. Slicing buildings in half is okay but opening a door needs a key? I get that mechanics is not the same as lore but this is all over the place.
He's not teleporting, he's dodging. So far I've only seen Cloud slice buildings inside the janitor timewarp at the end of Remake, and in Advent Children.

They are weakheartened and terrified and probably never killed a human before. Also probably still somewhat in denial that Sephiroth, their ultimate idol hero, would actually do any of this and that it's all just a nightmare.
Maybe one of them could have taken a shot that Sephiroth deflects to illustrate the futility, justifying their despair. The scene is just poorly blocked.

The real, Doylist answer?
Most likely moronic CERO rating requirements.
I liked the demo, but this part is inexcusably awful. It made what should be the climax into hilarious incompetency.
I can't imagine what they were thinking
do you think they had a focus group test for this section and the devs watched them struggle to climb up the mountain, which made them paint the ledges afterwards?
There's a glowing arrow pointing at the interactable wall segment just like every climbable segment in Remake. The yellow paint adds nothing because it's a linear forced climbing interactable with a single path anyway. It's fricking ludicrous.
What does the 'Mesh timeline look like, anyway? FFV is the clear start, and there's not likely to be an ending until they do a 7R-tier FFV remake where he shows up again to the chagrin of that Gilgamesh and Exdeath, but what's the in-between? Is there any clear indication?
When he appears in FFVIII the JP script has him express confusion as to what happened to Bartz and the Rift, so that would seem to be immediately after FFV. After that point, it's pretty much a mystery. In XII he has a fake Buster Sword, Revolver, Orichalcum (Zidane's off-hand), and Brotherhood so XII would have to be after visiting all of those.
I wonder if he's getting his fake Buster Sword from this version of VII or if he got it from the original and has kept it across the timeline change.
>I wonder if he's getting his fake Buster Sword from this version of VII or if he got it from the original and has kept it across the timeline change.
Now i wonder if Greg is going to comment on the original VII. Did Gilgamesh met Cloud in any dissidia before?
>So is it always the same guy?
Usually. >Whats his deal?
He was a mercenary employed by FFV's villain Exdeath. But Exdeath got pissed that he kept losing and cast X-Zone on him to cast him into the Rift between worlds. As it turns out, the Rift is the final dungeon of the game and he rushes in to suicide bomb a miniboss to save you. For some reason the suicide attempt inside the Rift casts him into FFVIII's world, and from that point he just understands how to leap in and out of the Rift at will, allowing him to move between games.
Recurring antagonist in FFV - cowardly general in Exdeath's army that is quick to flee when losing, and tries to distract the party so he can cheat in a bunch of free buffs. Pretty much comic relief?
Eventually comes across 'excalibur', and thinks he has a chance against the party, but it turns out to be a fake; Exdeath is done with his shenanigans, and yeets him into an 'interdimensional rift'.
Far into the story - in the rift - the players end up encountering a tough boss (tbh he's not that strong...), and Gilgamesh makes a sudden reappearance - says a bunch of encouraging things to the player party, then blows himself up to destroy the boss for you.
Turns out he survived this encounter, and wanders the FF multiverse, picking up cool swords, and fighting the player characters
at one point he uses guns, at another point he becomes magicite
gilgamesh gets around

The materia system is genuinely cool but there's no reason to experiment with it because the game's piss easy and it's a pain in the ass to reequip everything if you want to use more than the same 3 party members
Can't believe I'm saying this about FF7, but literally get good. Menuing around quickly to rebuild your materia is a core game skill. Get good and customization won't seem so daunting, and it will actually be fun to test combinations that you already know are probably going to be inferior, but the game is so easy that you don't care.
I see this comment everywhere and think that I must be one of the few that always tried to give each character their own materia loadout and tried to replicate certain classic jobs/classes.

Rocket town is not shown and the areas in trailers we see Cid in look like Junon airport and Temple of Ancients. So they might cut Rocket Town and introduce Cid and Tiny Bronco somewhere else

is that the fricking advent children sword
are they using this to explain why cloud has it??? it would make sense for gilgamesh to have a sword that can transform into enough swords for each of his hands...
I get kinda hmmm because the whole point of the fusion sword would be its different combat styles that we would be able to use. I hope they do it well and it isnt just a skin for the buster sword.
It's as if characters are allowed to do and survive crazy shit in battle and can still be killed by single sword slash or gunshot in plot points. On one hand the whole universe can collapse on you and you take 50 damage from your 9999 health pool, but if opponent blitzball player tackles you too hard, you need to sit out the first half of the next match

It's also the source of chungus meme, if you didn't know

Bravo.
Square "spoiling" stuff in their trailers? No way!
Granted, it's Gilgamesh. Great he's finally in FFVII, but could have been more shocking options.
These days you have to spoil the entire game or else morons won't understand. I recently understood why from Granblue Relink, threads are full of morons who still don't know what genre the game is even after tons and tons of gameplay videos and a fricking demo. >ff7 takes a good 40 hours to beat
Just emulate and fast forward all fights except bosses while mashing attack. You will steamroll virtually the entire game.
You are not allowed to play Remake until you have played FFVII og, played Crisis Core and watched Advent Children
This but unironically
I was being unironic. No point playing Remake if one's not familiar with OG, CC and AC first
You don't need CC and AC to understand 7R
Explain FF7R ending showing Zack fighting army of Shinra soldiers to someone has only played OG.

In FF7R Hojo refers to S and G type soldiers running train on Aerith to produce offspring
And? That doesn't impact the story.
You need to play OG and CC and watch AC before playing the Remake. This is not negotiable
You don't even need OG FFVII to understand FFVII Remake. I can't imagine what they were thinking
They were going for theTLoU2 intense moment vibes. You can tell by the sound queues and all. Its the exact same sound.
The people in TloU2 often act like humans and shoot monsters that are attacking them. This is a whole unique level of moronation.
The entire burning of the village is a jank trainwreck. Square is probably rushing this, it's extremely unpolished
