I can confirm that there’s 2 versions although they’re both pretty similar.
The only difference is that Cloud doesn’t explicitly Nakama-zone Aerith anymore but you need HA Aerith scene to not Nakama-zone Aerith. If you get LA Aeritu or any version of Tifa, Red or Barret as dates at the Golden Saucer then Cloud utterly friend-zones her and she gets really sad.
The HA version of the scene has Cloud be less friend-zoney and Aerith looks happier but she also comes out with the same dialogue that she likes Cloud but that “like” isn’t “in love with” and she can’t understand what she feels for Cloud

Do you want to know what Cloud actually acting like Zack looks like? The Nibelheim demo. Moments explicitly stated in ultimanias like, for example, when Cloud gives Tifa the flower which the devs stated is something he did because he subconsciously thought it'd be something cool that Zack would do.
Aerith clearly sees from the day they meet that Cloud and Zack aren't the same. Cloud is shy and awkward and shows that several times to Aerith, he acts tough but is very vulnerable which Aerith sees through immediately. Zack has literally none of these traits, Cloud doesn't start squatting randomly, smiling, cracking jokes while pointing at his face, their energy levels are completely different, they're so fundamentally different as characters it's crazy.
Also, you're ignoring the part of Rebirth's Gold Saucer date where she says she wants to be with him (Cloud) specifically at that moment. She likes the real him, there wouldn't be this hard a love triangle/theme songs about Cloud and Aerith if it was that shallow of a dynamic, we need to be realistic here.

I'll take the directing/content of the Aerith date over Tifa's any day though. The kiss gets an immediate pan away from an already zoomed out shot, Cloud's writing in Tifa's date feels extremely forced and self contained exclusively to that specific gondola ride, etc (ironically, he acted more like Zack there than himself). There's also some in between frames missing in the animation right before the kiss which makes it look janky.
They zoom in on Cloud and Aerith interlocking fingers with their expressions for like at least 15 seconds, Cloud feels in character still being as awkward/fake stoic as he was during Remake and Rebirth's trailers/demos, etc. It feels animated better and way more intimate. In the context of Hollow/No Promises to Keep and the whole thing about never letting her go/take my hand/ and all that stuff, it feels way more appropriate/symbolic too for it to be hand-related.
I get "Marry Aerith, frick Tifa, kill Yuffie" vibes from how those dates played out basically.

The existence of the multiverse doesn't denote it as a sequel. In Remake, Aerith and Red straight up say that the lifestream has set line of events, fate. Aerith, the Whispers, and Sephiroth most likely, can see that line, and the Whispers are the ones trying to keep in on track. Hell, everything that happens in Remake can happen before or after OG since it's multiversal stuff.

I think they’re meant to be realized pretty early on - they make it super obvious at the end of the first game. Comparing the two, I trust Zack to make Aerith happy way more than I trust Cloud to. Cloud seems more like the type she'd have to put energy into constantly, worrying about how he's feeling, initiating everything, and having to drag him around for him to enjoy anything. It feels like an adult helping out some traumatized child. On the other hand Zack's energy meshes with hers better. They're like two fun loving adults who I can honestly see just goofing off with each other during their down time but also having sweet down to earth moments often since they're both emotionally available people.

I can confirm that there’s 2 versions although they’re both pretty similar.
The only difference is that Cloud doesn’t explicitly Nakama-zone Aerith anymore but you need HA Aerith scene to not Nakama-zone Aerith. If you get LA Aeritu or any version of Tifa, Red or Barret as dates at the Golden Saucer then Cloud utterly friend-zones her and she gets really sad.
The HA version of the scene has Cloud be less friend-zoney and Aerith looks happier but she also comes out with the same dialogue that she likes Cloud but that “like” isn’t “in love with” and she can’t understand what she feels for Cloud

The kiss gets an immediate pan away from an already zoomed out shot, Cloud's writing in Tifa's date feels extremely forced and self contained exclusively to that specific gondola ride, etc (ironically, he acted more like Zack there than himself). There's also some in between frames missing in the animation right before the kiss which makes it look janky.
They zoom in on Cloud and Aerith interlocking fingers with their expressions for like at least 15 seconds, Cloud feels in character still being as awkward/fake stoic as he was during Remake and Rebirth's trailers/demos, etc. It feels animated better and way more intimate. In the context of Hollow/No Promises to Keep and the whole thing about never letting her go/take my hand/ and all that stuff, it feels way more appropriate/symbolic too for it to be hand-related.

Comparing the two, I trust Zack to make Aerith happy way more than I trust Cloud to. Cloud seems more like the type she'd have to put energy into constantly, worrying about how he's feeling, initiating everything, and having to drag him around for him to enjoy anything. It feels like an adult helping out some traumatized child. On the other hand Zack's energy meshes with hers better. They're like two fun loving adults who I can honestly see just goofing off with each other during their down time but also having sweet down to earth moments often since they're both emotionally available people.
