Main story seems fine, but the side stuff is as bad with some exceptions if you like Fort Condor/Clash of Clans and their new card game. I’m not too far in yet but main game pacing is better so far. Optional content can drag out probably but that’ll be your own choice. The fast travel is nice at least.

I like Queen's Blood more than Triple Triad by first impressions, no dumb ass region-specific rules that most people abolish asap like Random. However, I do wonder how limited it is cause I could see blitzing down the lanes and taking as much spaces as possible and prevent the opponent from using cards is probably a strategy.

Yeah I beat 2 of the first ones by pretty much taking up the board. The higher rank cards I got seemed against that strategy with their patterns though.
I sunk about four hours into it so far. I just got to the mythril cave. I also skipped the Nibelheim section because of the demo. I will say a solid 90 minutes so far has been pure fluff. Just introductions to busy work mechanics and quests that don't really mean anything. Game also needs some QoL improvements like chests need to open faster, climbing speed needs to be drastically increased, and travelsal in general just feels too slow.
Boss fights are fricking good though. The Midgarsormr fight was awesome. Synergy abilities are cool too. It's a solid 8 so far.

Japanese Tifa sounds super cute, wholesome, and endearing meanwhile her English voice actress sounds like a bored stiff robot who forces an unfitting deeper and older sounding voice for no reason
it's cause the direction is shit usually. a character like barret is self-evident but for anything that requires a bit of naturalism or subtlety or any sort of skill like that it falls flat 'cause no one in the process either knows enough or cares enough to do more than just basic line reads.
I'm always stunned by how much better it sounds when stage actors are hired to do VA instead of the standard "professional" VAs. FFXII sounds totally different from anything els SE has done cause of this (with the exception of Vaan who sticks out like a sore thumb)

When (You) ask people who play Jap vidya in Japanese what the average girl sounds like in those games they will tell you that those sound very feminine, cute, and expressive. If (You) ask the same question to people who exclusively play those games with English voices, they will tell you that those sound like old smoking ladies who don't even try to fit the characters at all or try to sound young and failing at it. There are millions of other examples like that. Western people are simply unable to fit the aesthetic the Jap creators are going for unless that aesthetic is very Western in nature like in Dark Souls games. All English VAs in FF13 tried their hardest to sound exactly like the Japanese VAs and like the Jap director wanted them to and it they still sucked compared to the Jap ones tbh

I sunk about four hours into it so far. I just got to the mythril cave. I also skipped the Nibelheim section because of the demo. I will say a solid 90 minutes so far has been pure fluff. Just introductions to busy work mechanics and quests that don't really mean anything. Game also needs some QoL improvements like chests need to open faster, climbing speed needs to be drastically increased, and travelsal in general just feels too slow.
Boss fights are fricking good though. The Midgarsormr fight was awesome. Synergy abilities are cool too. It's a solid 8 so far.

Midgar has the highest tech but FF7's world is actually more like the modern world after the industrial revolution.
The outside world in the original game had a very 1960s feel to it, look at the design of places like Rocket Town. You could say the PHS came from Midgar as it was a phone. Vincent's firearms were also all pretty oldish, with the most modern being the SPAS-12 introduced in 1979

I ask myself the same question honestly. English VAs sound good for more Westernized characters like Barret but they sound like shit when voicing more Japanese and anime inspired ones. Japanese Tifa sounds super cute, wholesome, and endearing meanwhile her English voice actress sounds like a bored stiff robot who forces an unfitting deeper and older sounding voice for no reason
it's cause the direction is shit usually. a character like barret is self-evident but for anything that requires a bit of naturalism or subtlety or any sort of skill like that it falls flat 'cause no one in the process either knows enough or cares enough to do more than just basic line reads.
I'm always stunned by how much better it sounds when stage actors are hired to do VA instead of the standard "professional" VAs. FFXII sounds totally different from anything els SE has done cause of this (with the exception of Vaan who sticks out like a sore thumb)
